the greatsword was a very powerful asset in battle, I just find it funny drawing the comparison to fantasy games.

A good example of how greatsworders were dealt with on the battlefield, since large blades tend to get stuck in the body, often times there would be a "suicide" soldier, meant to go in and take the brunt of the damage so the greatsword gets stuck. This allows their allies to gang up on the greatsword user.

Because with thrust you have really good control of the spear tip, and you can just move back until you line up and opening and then sprint into them. And unarmored becasue there is more flesh to stick your tip into. Pun intended.
