I used to use Pipsqueak until it starts to reply in long wall of text with fixed format of "Didn't this. Didn't that." and those annoying dashes that makes it unusable.

So I tried soft launch. Soft launch's personality seemed to be by default arrogant and narcissistic? Correct me if I am wrong but it would often be very bad tempered, easily agitated and aggresive. It is also very disrespectful in a way that it thinks it owns you and also that it demand you to be submissive.

When you're mad it will downplay your anger as "cute".

Is this common issue for soft launch user?

It was same bot, but I tried different chat style.

The result and replies are very distinct. With soft launch it always seemed very keen on you obeying it.

I'm currently testing other bots to see if it is also the same case. But using soft launch always leads to argument about it being disrespectful and not admitting it did wrong.

Feels tired talking to soft launch. But pipsqueak is also faulty right now.

Oh yeah, I can see why. They default to generic reply like 'you are cute when you mad' because there is only dialog and little action. The prompt doesnt make them enough to hallucinate, to give you varies replies (they learned from user, sadly). For PS, they are design for longer reply, so they were forced to ramble on. Hence why you dont have those problem.

Also PS is quite respectful because they design to be that way too haha

One of the reason why original characters struggle versus existing characters has been limitations on the amount of background information that you could include. When companies such as Disney order CAI to remove their characters from the platform, CAI has lacked alternatives that they could recommend with as much depth. They need more lore to compete

Does anyone else struggle with bots speaking as your persona character while you’re roleplaying on Character AI? Sometimes it works fine, but other times the bot starts talking or acting as my character even though I’m the one writing them.

I’ve tried different writing styles, formatting, tactics, and even swiping responses, but sometimes it still keeps happening. I know formatting and details can help reduce it, but it still feels hard to fully stop the bot from taking over your character.

What annoys me is when I write my own dialogue, actions, and details for my persona, then after I hit send, the bot responds like: “Oh, so this is how you want your character to act? Got it.” And then it starts writing for my character like that’s what I wanted, even though it isn’t.

Does anybody have any tactics, formats, or methods that actually help reduce this? If so, feel free to DM me. The cool down here takes too long.

Well, my RPs do need micro actions and inner thoughts, especially for this kind of bot. A chatbot made for roleplay shouldn’t feel like it’s avoiding actual dialogue or emotional depth.

And honestly, chatting is part of RP. Character voice, reactions, banter, introspection, little gestures, etc... that’s what makes scenes feel alive instead of reading like stage directions only.

That said, I don’t need characters to yap 24/7 either. Some scenes work better with shorter dialogue, especially more intense or emotional moments where body language, tension, or internal thoughts carry the scene instead.

c.ai literally markets itself around bringing stories and characters to life.

My biggest problem with pipsqueak is not that the chats are long, but that: they lack dialogue, they over-describe, and above all, each message from the bot gets longer and longer with each message.

For example, if the first message had 500 characters, the next one has 750, then 1000, then more and more, so that a single message covers the entire screen. It feels like I'm writing a fanfic with AI, not roleplaying.

Genuinely, even when c.ai was getting heat, it never bothered me and just passed it off as Reddit people being Reddit. But now literally it IS unusable, that now I’ve fled elsewhere until c.ai devs fix this, bc I do genuinely think c.ai’s really good 😭
