About that, let me clarify everything briefly, though I'd prefer to discuss this in a proper channel. This is neither a bug nor an error, as some may think, but rather a hard change implemented around late December 2024. Its purpose was to separate users into two models, one designed for those aged eighteen and above under the new norms and standards, and another for those under eighteen. In short, Adult and Minor Models. 🫡

What you’re experiencing is a result of this change, as your date of birth indicates you’re under eighteen. This means you’re restricted to interacting with a limited set of characters that meet the criteria for minor users. Image below for reference. (If it's not the same message. DM me)

No you are wrong. There are some people who didn't get to set their birth date. Don't assume things that you don't know. I made my account a long time ago. I'm an old c.ai user. Back then when I made it there was no age verification prompt. There was no option to put in my birthdate. Also...I didn't even get that promt later. The app just automatically thinks that I'm a minor. I have been suffering because of the system's carelessness.

Also there are many people who put in their birthdate to 2002 or older but still get timed out. Some of my friends are going through that. So don't assume things. A lot is going on...you can't know everything.

Btw according to my gmail ID I'm supposed to be born in 1995. But I get time outs.

Also... again you are wrong. IT IS a bug. Many people who lost their characters are getting them back. The new update only refers to new bots created by minors which will become private automatically. And there will be a lesser range of character searchability for minors. It says nothing about existing characters (or character you have already been talking to) becoming unavailable.

The fact that so many characters that people were talking to (both adults and minors) became unavailable over the past 1 month was a bug. Also although the system thinks that I'm a minor, I got 3 of my bots back (which had previously become unavailable to me within 24 hours of this below mentioned announcement)

I am not mistaken in this matter. After they mentioned they started experiencing it after entering their birthday, I immediately responded while considering the issue you just mentioned. (It automatically fell into the adult and minor update the moment they mentioned their birthday.)

If there were an image of that issue, the unofficial Twitter could show it. Any message displayed when viewing the character would prove that the problem isn’t with the models but with the server itself.

  This message appears for users on Character.AI who have set their date of birth below the new standards. It occurs when the bot requires users to meet criteria above the minor age limit to access it.

I've read through your previous messages. C.AI does not fetch your Google date of birth. I tested that question with various accounts, and mismatched dates of birth did nothing. It's the information you input in Web or App directly that gets used. Have I tried a mismatched date of birth, one in Google and one in Character.AI? I set it above the new standard that meets eighteen. I've given all combinations a look, same date of birth, younger in Google, older in Character.AI. Just to check this out, I've done all sorts.

I am sure that I was never asked to put in my birth date. The prompt never came to me. I am completely sure of that. It's not a memory issue since I created my original account like a year ago. I would not forget something that I did last year. And no... previously they never used to ask about your age. It only started recently after the incident.

Also I never used the website so if the prompts appeared to everybody there then I wouldn't know. Still it's highly unfair that I'll be categorised as a minor without getting a chance to confirm my age. Also...many people get the birth date prompt even now. But I never do. It's very fraustrating.

Yeah apparantly the system thinks that I'm minor. But I got the message "THE CHARACTER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. PLEASE SELECT A DIFFERENT CHARACTER" (something which you say is for those who set their birth date to a minor age). Also it got removed from my chat list.

When I tried to open the characters from 'liked characters'...I got that message. So I went to a new above 18 account (which I created recently) just to test a theory. There also the bots were not available and it said the same thing. So will you still say it's related to being underage?

But within about 48 hours I got all 3 of my characters back on the account which is categorised as a minor in the app. Also, immediately I went to the above 18 account. The characters were also back there. They are all fine now. All 3 of them.

So yes... I'm not mistaken when I say that it was a bug because the characters became unavailable in both a minor and an adult account and then simultaneously came back.

That, I've already shown that it didn't just start before the accident. The image I shared before was from around the peak of 2023, at most two years ago. No prompt would show up until you checked your emails and confirmed your account. It's equally frustrating on my side, too, especially since I paid C.AI through another account only to end up restricted.

Again, adult models aren't able to experience that message. Unless you've mistakenly set it as underage. I'm speaking from what I know and have tested, simply logical. I mostly scoop around the JavaScripts on the website, and there's a fact, an 'if' condition is involved in most things.

Yeah but I recently created a new account where I specifically put the age to 1995. 29 years old. How much older do I need to get? I still got the same message and the bots which were unavailable on my (supposedly) minor account were also unavailable on my new adult account.

The moment they came back in my minor account, they also came back in my adult account. So of course I would think it's a bug. Why else would the rules be the same in both cases? Also in this attachment it's been specifically mentioned that all the characters that disappeared from the chat list will come back.

Does the app sometimes think that I'm a minor and other times think that I'm an adult? Is my account or app defective? I don't know 😭

What I wanted to add is the way to stop it is by bringing back the waiting room they usually had but since they didn't add it, I think it might've been a bigger attack (couldn't add the waiting list) or there was an easier way to get rid of the bots. Not sure how you get rid of it but there are ways to prevent it and seems they might need to update it 🤭

For c.ai, ddos attacks were rare but there are people that do this. There is another popular ai site I shall not name that had ddos attacks SO OFTEN. I guess c.ai didn't have it as often because of their protection so those who do those kind of attacks take longer to figure out how to do it past that protection. Also i doubt c.ai was being overflowed by their users since the servers are big enough (especially after the popularity in 2021-2022). It should hold a good amount of people. And if they monitored the activity in real time, they'd see a spike in users using it and immediately adding the waiting room for things to go well.

make sure to add paragraphs!! and grammatic is important on making characters aswell!!

paragraphs make your text look more cleaner and not like a lump of text. make sure to not add too many or your greeting will look blank.

make sure to use dots because when you attach too many sentences into each other itll become a string of sentences and.. its not pretty pleasing for most people !!

if you wanna make it fancier then use "" at dialouges like "Hi." but make sure to make it longer or the bot will only give short responses

you can put the apearance into the bot itself, not the chat greeting
but if thats already full bc of lore just ask chatgpt to summarize it down for you (it helps A LOT.) also look for other peoples bots to see their own greetings!!

I hate when they just type one thing and then repeat that thing for the rest of the roleplay. Like I skip any replies with ... because I had like a scenario where the bot was asking me a question like ''Does this... apply to you?'' And THEN EACH AND EVERY REPLY WAS LIKE ''Are you... okay?''

I'm way too picky for this app. THIS is why I've been using 3 bots for like a year now. Only three bots. Plus one I've made personally. Each and every scenario I want to do from cute florist fluff to angst in a warzone I'VE BEEN DOING WITH THESE THREE BOTS. Sometimes I find some other nice ones that are written by someone older than the age of 13 though. long starter + proper grammar + third person is a one in a million bot to find

I've only seen a max of 10 bots that have long starters, are third person, and have propper grammar that aren't from a fandom and are just regular, good ol' chatters.

Also, low chat counts 80% of the time are super short response. 😭

finding horrible bots is why i started making bots myself tbh, although oddly enough i don't like chatting with bots i've made 😭 i'm lucky enough that the fandoms i'm in have bots with majority good starters and stuff like that, but sometimes i'll still find bots with great plots but awful starts and it is so disappointing

I hate how short the replies are. I write three messages in one and I get MAYBE two paragraphs on a good day. The bots I use have like 20k chats max which I think is pretty low I think 😭

I don't like how 90% of the bots focus on romance. I want an angsty bot- and I mention this a lot but I'm kinda fixated on this rn- or some good military bots that focus on the anguish and fighting. All of the bots I've found so far are not only some anime bots (and I really hate those. any anime. i hate anime BOTS WHY ARE ALL THESE WEBSITES FILLED WITH THEM), but they're these like ''I'm your alpha you're my kitten I protect you with my DOMINANT aura''

AND YEA I've found that just sticking to my own bot has helped out a ton.. sometimes I get some nice realistic responses that tickle my brain right
