Hey there, just updated to Vesktop 1.6.0 on my OpenSUSE Tumbleweed setup. Was working completely fine beforehand, but when I opened Vesktop 1.6.0, it froze after a few seconds of being loaded in. I decided to reset my Vesktop settings using the tray icon, but now when I open it I'm met with this screen. Logs below:

Looks like an issue with fonts, but I definitely have these fonts installed. I'm using the .tar.gz version. Happens on the AppImage too

then try higher versions (start off with v38 and try v39 beta too) and see which is the earliest version where it's fixed

seems like the root cause is you having a broken font in your font list, so make sure to look into that as well (optimally after testing :P)

I never really understood what Shiggy was or stood for, but I really started to see it as synonymous with Vesktop/Vencord itself. Kinda like a mascot. I know you can change the splash image, but i feel like that should be a user choice instead of, i dont know, forcefully changed for us? I guess its also good too, in a way, since it gets you to go into settings to see where you might be able to change it and see what else has changed. I dont hate it, but I sorta got used to Shiggy and miss her (i know how to change it and the gif is above me, i know, i know) and i was kinda sad/shocked to see it be the Linux penguin. Vesktop v1.6 has a white flash when opening in dark mode on Windows. Is this a known issue? Enabling transparency support can resolve this problem, but the windows lack shadows.

Howdy. I am having an issue that started just today, my Vencord is not showing anything in the list for audio sources when I screenshare.

Yo, just wanted to come ask and see if anyone else had this issue or if it was a specific hardware interaction odd issue of mine. But after the recent discord update, if I play any game or launch a game while having Discord open it kills my game. I will consistently drop to ~15-60FPS every 10 seconds like clockwork. And it happens the entire time. It gets so bad that it will cause my GPU driver to time out and my PC to literally try to reconnect my GPU because it thinks it like died or something. And this only happens with Discord app. Canary and regular both have the same issue. But this issue doesn't happen is I use vesktop. If I use the website no problems at all. The issue exists even if I turn off Game RPC, Hardware Accel, Overlay, etc. And it just dies. Just for having Discord open. If I close discord then launch my game, doesn't happen at all.

yep, checked eventviewer, used latencymon, literally everything I know to do from a tech standpoint lmao. Latencymon shows it causes my driver to run at a delay of like 1200 which uh isnt normal at all. It supposed to run at <500. But its not a GPU issue or hardware issue. Bc again this is completely gone if I just task kill discord b4 opening the game, and then reopen discord after the game is already open

Hello, ever since Windows has updated me to Windows 11, the Vesktop window has a tiny 1-pixel blue outline/border around it when in focus. It turns grey when out of focus. It seems to be the outline Windows puts on most windowed programs, but some of them can avoid it: the outline is not present on the regular Discord app for example, only on Vesktop.

So, i was away from my system for about 3 months, and after coming back and updating everything today I am no longer able to share my screen. I'm using arch linux + hyprland. When i try to share my screen, the hyprland screen picker comes up and I am able to select what i want to share, but after proceeding Vesktop simply "crashes". I get a notification that it crashed, but everything apart from the screen sharing still works normally. I am then unable to open the screen picker again until I restart Vesktop. Has someone had something similar to this before and could offer some advice on what to do?

So, it seems like it was actually an UI problem with Discord. After the update, Discord had some kind of new UI that was crashing when trying to open the screen share prompt or even when trying to open an image. Right clicking the Vesktop icon in the tray and selecting Repair Vencord seems to have resolved everything

Hey sorry to be a bother, anything changed between today and yesterday that may cause vesktop to only show a black screen on launch and relaunch instead of the usual stuff?
If not, is this a case of needing to lift my settings file and/or custom css out temporarily by hand to then sift through what may have caused this or is there a simpler way? Ive already tried: restart, full close > relaunch, and Repair Vesktop.
Im aware of the linux vpn block and used the launch args to get around that but it didn't prevent the entire app from loading just prevented messages from loading *prior to the launch args being added i mean.

e2: it is, in fact, the vpn thing. I retried via console w/ the args and it worked - so user error on adding the args to my shortcut, again sorry for the bother

The integrated "start with system" option ignores installed themes (at least on Fedora). The workaround is to disable the start with system option, and add the app to your startup list manually with something like Ignition.

In the future make sure to make backups or use cloud sync

and the purpose of the portable version is so you can put it on a portable device (USB stick) without installing, so it stores settings in the same folder

a portable install basiically considers the whole folder to be one file. updating it replaces the 'one file' which also contained your settings file. you dont want the portable version for your situation

drag and drop on linux, but on windows right click on Vesktop.exe in the install directory and paste a shortcut in the same directory. Right click on the shortcut to rename it and change the icon. then pin that shortcut to start and taskbar instead of pinning the exe itself

Yes but screenshare is very janky. You have to start sharing your entire desktop before you start the program you want to run. sharing windows unfortunately causes screen tearing no matter what you do

This is a bug report, I have found a work around, I am not asking for support but rather trying to report this bug but the issue page says not to report bugs there so here I am.

I am on Arch Linux GNOME Wayland with 125% scaling.
When I first installed Vesktop months ago, I had scaling issues and so I setup a system-wide environment variable ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT="wayland" which fixed the issues.
Today I updated to Vesktop 1.6.0, the environment variable is still set, but Vesktop does not respect it anymore.
I also tried ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT="auto" and ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM="wayland" with no success.

I worked around the issue by adding --ozone-platform=wayland in ~/.config/vesktop-flags.conf as I saw that /usr/bin/vesktop (I am using the vesktop AUR package) loaded commandline arguments from there.
Still, I don't see mention of ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT being disabled from the changelog, so I don't understand why it would stop working suddenly and I assume this is a bug.

I can look at those, I haven't tried those yet, but I still think, even logically it makes more sense to check if any of the the window is on a screen, so you can position the window partially off if you want (although it seems like on Linux/Wayland (at least KDE) it's forced back fully into the screen anyway).

The 10px margin in my pr was mostly just so you can't move the window off to the right and then scale it horizontally until there only is a one pixel line left, not necessary to fix my issue.

And I don't know if my issue is limited to <10 px (it is on my setup, but if anyone else has a similar issue idk, the values (+/-7) seem kinda arbritary 🤷 )

So about that... Turns out I was wrong and stupid about the margin not being important, since it thinks it's actually showing on the screen right of the one I just unplugged (due to the thinking it's 7px larger than it is in each direction).

Personally I don't mind, as I don't really go around unplugging my monitors, I don't know how widespread the issue I have where the window bounds are larger than the screen bounds is, and you can still grab the edge of the window and move it on to the monitor that's plugged in (so I guess it kinda is on that monitor).

So it doesn't push it back in, in my one weird edge case. For all I care you don't have to fix this, but I thought you should know in case anyone comes in here saying their window disappeared

Hey hey people, does anyone have a good idea how to force a theme reload when an imported css file changes?

I switched to caelestia, and it generates vesktop themes matching the system colorscheme, but I want to overwrite some settings and every new generation in turn wipes my changes. My solution is to use a separate css, import the generated theme in that, set what I want and keep the colors. I tried adding a version parameter into the import through a script, then just into a comment, but vesktop seems to cache imports and the changes don't take effect.

to anyone using a VPN on Linux and their Vesktop infinitely loading and/or not sending any messages; some VPNs support a feature called Split Tunneling that allows to push the traffic of one app outside of your VPN. I use Mullvad, and turning it on normally, then fully closing Vesktop and opening it via Split Tunneling allows me to use the VPN for everything and maintain Discord functionality.

Hi, i have issues with sharing screen.

I've tried out Linux recently ||(omarchy build - hyprland arch)|| and had issues with sharing screen with audio. Screen shares, but not the audio.

I was recomended to use Vesktop since it has audio stream support. But the expirience is very laggy.
Guys i streamed to told me that:

on "smooth" option

• quality was very bad, maybe like 144p
• framerate was moderate/low

on "clear" option

• very laggy, signifficant frame drops
• Image quality was good/OK (but with tearing by the center)

Also in both cases there was

• visual bugs like horizontal tearing at the center of the image
• quality/framerate become even worse if i streamed with audio sharing, and quite better without it

Is it really fixable? I could share you screen if you don't mind and want to see it by yourself.

no. this was a special update that actaully involved installing a new RPM over the existing app. that was only for the icon changes and new desktop file so i dont expect to see it again for a long time if ever since the app updates internally like an appimage even installed as an rpm.

the issue is the immutable OS file-structure. Bazzite is based on Fedora, and Fedora makes a lot of directories, such as /usr/* as read-only after boot to "protect" the os

you’re likely using Fedora Workstation which is a conventional distro. root can do anything

In immutable distros like bazzite most of the root directory is immutable meaning not even root can edit it

I think I've found a video memory leak, not sure if it's KDE or Vesktop but figured I'd report it.
System Info:
OS: Bazzite 42
Kernel 6.16.4
KDE Plasma 6.4.5
Vesktop Flatpak (dev.vencord.Vesktop)
Nvidia Driver 580.82.07 (RTX 3070)

Reproduction:

1. Open nvtop to monitor GPU MEM of /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal-kde
2. Join a voice chat
3. Click the share screen button
4. Each time the screen sharing menu (im1) is shown, ~50MB of vram is reserved
5. Each time the screen sharing quality selection menu (im2) is shown, another ~25MB of vram is reserved
6. Closing these menus does not free up the reserved menu, and each time they are reopened they reserve more memory
7. Spamming the screen share button queues up several screen sharing menus, which can rapidly eat up a lot of video memory (im3)

ETA: doing the same thing on vanilla discord (same system, flatpak version) eats like 200MB each time so this seems likely to be a KDE bug
