i'm using a windows version of vesktop

long story short, 1.5.7 vesktop broke GIFs, videos and voice calls (pressing on a voice call button freezes the client) entirely, and here are two issues i found out while trying to get a fix:

• i wanted to migrate back to 1.5.6 with an installer, but apparently vesktop automatically updates itself back to the latest version every time I close vesktop, even with the automatic updates toggled off
• i wanted to use a portable 1.5.6 version instead, however, it installs a 1.5.7 vesktop client, and always trying to update my portable version by constantly installing the latest release every time I close vesktop

Vesktop uses arRPC ( https://arrpc.openasar.dev/ ) for Rich Presence game activity support and I believe every time I update vesktop from AUR some kinda game detection database gets pulled from with ninethousand something entries for game detection, so maybe whatever youre playing isnt in there / doesnt contact discord for rich presence

idk if it's been covered already but every time i launch vesktop i get a notif saying 1.5.7 is downloaded and ready to install, and that it'll install the next time vesktop is exited. if i exit manually nothing happens and if i relaunch vesktop it gives me the notif again. the updates page in settings says i'm up to date.

authorize to use the cloud using the switch at the top, then turn on settings sync using the switch at the bottom. then you can just hit the "sync to cloud" button, and on the client/device you want to apply the settings to press "sync from cloud".

on arch with AMD (framework-16), tried the fix on https://discord.com/channels/1015060230222131221/1380547443799752845 but that made HEVC and gifs go from stuck on first frame to playing but with a discord background color effectively only playing the audio.

I can get my other chromium apps with arguments --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland --enable-wayland-ime
but not for vesktop

I also tried the Xwayland solution fcitx man provided

TL;DR version, if you use XWayland to run Chromium or Electron application, just install Gtk im module and GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx the same way like X11.

Hi, I recently switched to Vesktop due to having screensharing shenanigans from official client in NixOS/Hyprland/NVIDIA but can't see any of my video devices/webcam. Got no problem in Firefox/Zen so far but Vesktop. Couldn't find anything related on the internet. Is there any troubleshooting guide about this?

this is either because you disabled hardware acceleration or because your gpu driver crashed

launch vesktop from terminal and look for errors that mention the gpu

I am trying to setup on linux similar to how I am on Windows, and found out that discord may not work quite right on linux in regards to streaming. So I figured I would try vesktop.
But it doesn't seem like it supports having multiple instances of discord open like openasar allows on windows with vencord.
Am I missing a setting to permit this in vesktop? Or will vencord on linux allow me to have multiple windows open? or will I need to use some other sort of solution?

I'm using DroidCam whenever I start a camera on Firefox/Zen, (browser refers it as "Dummy video device (0x0000)") I was able to use it on the official Discord client or web app before without issue. Tried to enable the cam and reset Vesktop but it's still says Camera Unavailable.

How to update if you can't update via normal means

Sometimes Vencord might break or crash and make it impossible to update via normal means. Here's how to fix it!

Discord Desktop

Use the Repair button in the installer. You will not lose your Vencord or Plugin settings.

Vesktop

Right click the vesktop tray icon > Update Vencord.
If you don't have a tray, you can run the following script in devtools (ctrl + shift + i, then click on the console tab and paste):

Well, initially i used port 8080. The allow button didn't specify it. Manually specifying it didn't help (requests were still blocked). Thus i tried hosting local server on port 80 (cause it's the default http port; i thought maybe if there'd be no port specified, i'll work; well, it didn't).

Or maybe i'm stupid and port in the native-settings.json should be specified in some other way than as 127.0.0.1:8080?

That doesn't seem to work either. Also recently learned that you can give a name instead of dummy device for this virtual camera setting that v4l2loopback module provides and that only affected the only camera I was able to use in web app but Vesktop.

As an alternative I tried to use OBS Studio virtual cam for the first time and it complained that I don't have the hardware encoder yet. I don't if that is related with the issue I had with Vesktop though. Will continue to investigate...

Hey all. I'm using the appimage. I tried to use vesktop 1.5.7 for screen sharing last night (normally I do this every week and no problems) and found two problems.

The first is that, trying for 1080p30fps, or 720p60fps, I got 720p@30FPS. In testing I saw this even with 1.5.6, which worked previously, so I presume that Discord have 'fixed' that we could use higher res/framerate? Perhaps someone could confirm/deny this?

The second issue was more severe, I found that after streaming for some time (a fair while, maybe 20-30 minutes), I heard crackling, and saw errors (xruns) in pipewire (especially my microphone and other nodes in that chain), along with error messages in the journal from pipewire about empty buffers, and one about hrtimer being slow. Some time experimenting with this suggests that it is GPU acceleration doing this - which yes I know that seems odd, but after disabling that, I didn't see any more xruns, and enabling it again brought them back. There's nothing wrong with my audio system under any other circumstance, including webRTC streaming, and low latency audio with small buffers, so I don't believe this to be a problem with my system's performance or configuration, although my pipewire setup is very customised, so perhaps I am an edge case where something breaks? I do have the nvidia vaapi driver installed but it is not configured and generally does not function in or impede other software.

vesktop is vencords custom client which just loads the discord web version and injects vencord which adds native modules mostly for making the linux experience better but is generally just less bloated (since its custom you might have mixed results with bugs, performance, etc though)
you should try all of them out and see whats best for you

Hello, when I stream for a longer period of time, Vesktop defaults to CPU instead of GPU.
This has been happening for a while, and restarting the stream fixes it.

I downloaded the vencord installer which confirmed that Vencord was still installed (it displayed the local version.)

I have run into a new issue with display scaling in KDE and Vesktop.
This issue only applies to Vesktop, I have tested every other application I run (X & Wayland) and cannot reproduce it on anything else, if I've screwed up a setting in Vesktop please let me know.

The problem:
Attempting to maximize Vesktop on a monitor scaled outside of 100% will scale it proportional to that %.
For example: Screen scaled to 150% -> maximise the vesktop window -> the window scales to 150%... with 50% being offscreen.
Screen scaled to 75% > maximise the vesktop window -> the window scales to take up only 75% of the screen when maximized and does not fill the screen.
Clicks are also offset relative to that scale %.

I cannot reproduce this with any other application, if anyone else has dealt with this please let me know what to do or try.

Basically it seems like it's ignoring the scaling rules / viewport.

when i open the app it auto scrolls... and just keeps scrolling up and won't stop no matter what i do...
restarting or repairing only solve it momentarily and then it happens again randomly

and also the most recent message goes into edit mode...
like it starts editing it...

tl;dr a friend of mine switched to linux recently switched and i helped set stuff up, pipewire is confirmed running, same with pipewire-pulse amd all the interfaces that it has/supports, but for some reason without any particular event seeming to cause it audio just dissapears entirely
i saw some posts blaming vesktop trying to use the pulseaudio pipewire bindings and the solution is to force it to just use pipewire -- but the issues are gone and they all link to the same two issues rather than explaining in post

After updating from Fedora 41 to Fedora 42, Vesktop no longer gets past the “Loading Vesktop” popup
I have it installed through flatpak, uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t do anything, neither did rebooting.
Could anybody help me troubleshoot the issue?

How to update if you can't update via normal means

a little while ago vesktop as a flatpak on fedora kde stopped blocking automatic sleep and screen locking when in a discord call

it works on discord's official flatpak

and it works on the browser version of discord

but not on vesktop

is this a known issue? are there any troubleshooting steps i could follow?

i havent tried installing a native rpm but id rather stick with the flatpak if possible

i think it used to work but honestly i never paid much attention to it until it started causing issues for me during longer calls so im not sure if this could be a regression or what

Howdy, so two things I was wondering about.

Firstly, is there any way to change the taskbar icon for this? I know I'm not the only person who's asked about such a thing but from what I saw when searching, all they wanted to do was change the icon for the shortcut. Which doesn't affect the taskbar icon.
I'd be satisfied if it was just the same colors as the regular discord icon honestly, the transition just feels weird after switching.

Secondly, why does it always have this red circle on it? I have no notifications....? Which only makes the first problem worse honestly
