Hello, in a multi-agents app, if you have a Steering agent, a Q&A agent and a Booking agent, how can we deviate from one agent to another ?
For example, if I want to book an hotel room, the agent will ask me the arrival date, the number of people and the length of stay. What if during the booking flow, the user asks about the hotel pet policy ? Honestly...I'd use https://www.cursor.com/ and go to google AI studio to get a gemini api key that you can add in the cursor IDE settings (It's a modified version of Visual Studio code IDE) With that API key you can access the google models for free and now you have a coding assistant browser that's free and amazing and if you want and can spend a few $$$ you go get your own API keys from OpenAI and/or Anthropic and then you can use those models to help you code if you want. then if you want to run any of the labs I'd load them in there or just practice building anything you want.

Hey Fede, new Google Cloud users get $300 in credits but, if you signed up to Google Cloud a long time ago, they might have expired before you had a chance to spend it all. Running the code samples in the notebook (https://goo.gle/LuisLab) should cost under $1.00.

You can also use https://aistudio.google.com to get an API key which includes free usage which is more than sufficient for this code lab.

1. AI Studio for quick experimentation
2. Colab for preliminary coding
3. Move to Vertex AI and my IDE (I use PyCharm) for "industrializing" my code
4. Finally, I deploy to Cloud Run or GKE, depending on what I'm building

There are many choices for scraping websites. One reason I used playwright in this context is that it's a "headless browser" with a ton of interesting functionality. It can run JavaScript, take screenshots, interact with the DOM, etc. Ultimately, however, I mainly needed the ability to take a screenshot of the entire page and this was one way I knew would work.

Hi - I have been looking through the notebooks and am a bit confused about the Python SDKs that need to be installed to talk with Gemini models. In the recommended environment setup guide (https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/generative-ai/tree/main/setup-env) they use %pip install google-cloud-aiplatform --upgrade , but in this getting started with Gemini Notebook (https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/generative-ai/blob/main/gemini/getting-started/intro_gemini_2_0_flash_lite.ipynb) they use %pip install --upgrade --quiet google-genai.

I looked around a bit and it appears that both SDKs can be used except that genai is for prototyping and has access to fewer models, whereas aiplatform is the more advanced of the two and has access to more models. Also, it appears that aiplatform should be used to access Gemini models running on google cloud, whereas genai is used to access models hosted - I dunno where? This GitHub issue (https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/generative-ai/issues/1616) seems to suggest that genai will fully replace aiplatform - is that correct or are the two entirely independent? This issue (https://github.com/google-gemini/generative-ai-python/issues/266) tries to answer the question but does not do so satisfactorily.

I also came across Google AI (docs on there work with genai)

Mainly, I wish to know the following

1. Which of the two is the more recent one and what are the use-cases where I would choose one over the other
2. Do both SDKs connect with VertexAI on Google Cloud - or is there a difference?
3. What is the difference between Google AI/Google AI Studio and Vertex AI/Vertex AI Studio. I understand that they are two different products and Vertex AI runs on Google cloud whereas Google AI - where does it run? This link suggests it is not a part of Google Cloud (https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/migrate-to-cloud)

I just wrapped up a 1-Day Challenge focused on building a simple agent with the google-adk (was using v1.1.1) and aiming for Vertex AI deployment. My detailed experience (full blog post draft attached) might have some useful insights, especially for the Google folks here.

We (Gemini and me) ran into a specific hurdle that I'm hoping you could shed some light on:

The InvocationContext Challenge: This became our main blocker. We found that agent.run_live() explicitly requires a parent_context: 'InvocationContext' argument. However, we had a tough time discovering this InvocationContext class via introspection (using dir(), help()) on the google.adk module and its common submodules (like agents, tools, events, core, runtime, etc.). Without being able to find and correctly instantiate InvocationContext, we couldn't get the agent fully interactive.

The attached draft blog post chronicles our entire debugging journey and how we pinpointed this. I haven't published it yet and would be super curious to get your thoughts or any pointers on the InvocationContext aspect if you have a moment.

I'm used to developing with Go and have taken advantage of the wide range of client libraries available for Google Cloud APIs. I don't mind using Python for simpler applications, but I feel a bit hesitant when it comes to integrating with other services within the agent — like in this example:

I can't tell you how utterly confusing the Skills Boost, credits and labs process is. This is not just about getting the initial credits or the fact that the Skills Boosts site has gone down for the last two days. The entire process fails on two fundamental levels.

First, is the technical architecture flaw of not being able to properly deal with costs/charges behind the scenes, creating a massive UX burden on users by forcing them into a complex workaround to shield real accounts from incurring costs by using temporary 'student' accounts and Incognito to go through labs.

The second is a failure in documentation to help users navigate this complex workaround. Critical information is spread over multiples resources, both email, web and pdf-based, and is insufficiently detailed or contradictory. Often, to complete a single user journey, users are required to navigate multiple resources, clicking links from one resource to another.

What is most confusing for me is the warning messages I often see about making sure you're signed out from Cloud Skill Boost platform and using Incognito; then in the labs needing to use a temp 'student' ID account; but at the same time you need to be logged into your real account because that's were the credits accrue when you complete labs and where credits are drawn from to pay for them.

You must realize this is a head-scratcher for many and one I still don't understand. What is the point of credits if I still need to shield my account from charges? I assume it's due to the technical architecture so I won't argue this point.

The bottom line is you should create a video that explains the why at a high level, the process from start to finish on what account to log out of, what account to log into using what browser, and most importantly the interplay between browser types, student IDs, accounts and credits.

Just look at 'A Tour of Google Cloud Hands-on Labs'. This is a great explainer video covering a robust but straightforward Google service. It did the job well. Why would you not have something like this for the unintuitive process and interplay users need to deal with credits and labs?

OK, now that I'm in the labs I hit my first major roadblock in the second lab, 'Introduction to Gemini 2.5 Pro'. In the workbook I loaded the model (gemini-2.5-pro-preview-06-05) and the next step had a basic prompt asking what was the largest planet in your solar system. I received a model not found error. The model is correct. No idea how to fix.

Where is Google Startup School management for these lab issues? We are all falling way behind in the lab work because of Qwiklabs inability to fix these issues. Please address this promptly. It is very frustrating.

I am sending support tickets to Qwiklabs and being asked followup questions to troubleshoot the problem but getting no responses on solving the issues. Worse, I'm reading online here where other have heard things are now working and to go back in. Why wasn't that communicated through the ticketing process?

I went to retake the Introduction to Gemimi 2.5 lab this morning and the Jupytr Notebook does not list the lab file to conduct the course. This is a new issue after my first attempt at taking the course where the exercises failed because the model couldn't be found.

What is going on? Can someone from Google please update the attendees on what is going on. It's frustrating to have to wait for other students to pass along hearsay about these issues.

FYI - Qwiklabs has NOT fixed the labs. No update on when they might be fixed.

My new support ticket to Qwiklabs this morning (Jupytr notebook file not found) was cancelled/merged with my first ticket as they said they are still working on the first issue (Gemini Pro 2.5 model not found).

What this means is the update I read (in this channel?) that the labs were taken offline looks to be correct. The second update that the labs are now working is not true, at least for the 'Introduction to Gemini Pro 2.5' lab.

Qwik Qwestion on Qwiklabs - Are we supposed to sign in with the same, anonymous user, and password to complete the Qwiklabs?? Having a heck of time trying to recover, so any guidance, greatly appreciated. If its just my gmail and password in an incognito window - that can work, however my understanding was that a new project, or existing project needs to be assigned and that would incur costs beyond the credits. There are 200 credits from completing the initial lab - the signup process isn't as intuitive as I thought I might be, or rather, I am not as intuitive as I thought I might be... Regardless, any guidance greatly appreciated.

This is what no one from Google explains very well and what I figured out on my own through trial and error:

-You DO need to use Chrome in Incognito mode to access the labs
-You DON'T want to log into your Chrome browser profile in Incognito mode (although in Incognito mode that is not normal anyways).
-You DO want to log into your Goolge Skills Boost account accessed in an Incognito tab (this is the confusing part that is not explained in the docs). The best way to get to the lab you want to go through is clicking the link in the pdf that has the mappings for the sessions and associated labs found here (https://goo.gle/GenAI-Labs) and here (https://goo.gle/AgenticAI-Labs)
-Once you start a lab (start the timer) you will be asked to set up the lab environment in Google Cloud console. This is where you DO need to use the temporary Student ID - when you're setting up the dev environment (another example of a critical step not being explained well in the documentation).

At this point you should be good to go. NOTE, some of the labs are NOT available right now. They are being 'fixed' by Qwiklabs. Also, the labs Luis provided a QR code and url for here (https://goo.gle/LuisLabs) in Week 1 session are not available. Not sure what labs were listed there as I never was able to land anywhere after clicking the link.

Just writing to confirm that introduction to Gemini 2.5 Pro course is still buggy. I spent the whole session trying to debug this, got the file in the last 20 minutes, making it impossible to finish the course in time.

The fix that I believe helped and I am sharing in case anyone is currently facing the issue of intro_gemini_2_5_pro missing, I've switched to an older version of Jupyter and then pressed quit. It "logged" me out of both new and old one, I've accessed it once again through google console as instructed on step 2, and the files finally appeared.

Is anyone else having issues with Gemini’s API? I cannot access it anymore. I keep getting “ User location is not supported for the API use” It just started too. I have been fine for months.

A little background I am US based but have one of my VPS has a Canadian ip, but even still it shouldn’t matter because gemini’s api is available in Canada.

Right now I am just happy it isn’t my production server that hasn’t been down for nearly 24 hours without explanation.

I was running into issues with the 'gemini-2.0-flash-001' not being available anymore. As in devol's post above, I switched to the newer, and just GA'd, 'gemini-2.5-flash' (without the '-001' which one of the labs insists you need but might be deprecated?) All the labs that use VertexAI are NOT working - when the lab calls a function to use the client or the agent, they all throw the same error -- ClientError: 403 PERMISSION_DENIED. {'error': {'code': 403, 'message': 'Permission denied on resource project. And as a result, it has resulted into unnecessarily burning/wasting the Cloud Skill Boost credits - because each time you start the lab, it deducts the credits but you can't complete the labs - but still the credits once deducted are gone (they are not refunded if you've to End the Lab once you can't proceed any further)

Is anyone from Google ( @sacred osprey ) monitoring these chats and picking up on the struggles this cohort is experiencing?

It's clear the labs are still significantly messed up with bad code (specifically regarding missing code that creates the client).

It's really poor form on Google's part to let an entire cohort struggle with these issues on their own. Especially when you have a dedicated company, QwikLabs, who are responsible for maintaining the labs and know about the issues from submitted tickets. It's disingenuous for Erin to say these issues are just from 'maintenance' being done on the labs as if this is the way it's is supposed to be.

It's obvious Startup School is a devrel (developer relations) marketing effort to grow the Google AI ecosystem. You would think they would want to put there best foot forward when trying to recruit developers to their platform.

You can check out model garden https://console.cloud.google.com/vertex-ai/model-garden and search for gemini. it gives you a list of model with ResourceID = ModelID.
BUT model garden does not tell you at which location the model is available. for example gemini-2.5-flash-lite-preview-06-17 and the gemini-2.5-pro-preview-06-05 only work with LOCATION="global".

You can also check here https://cloud.google.com/vertex-ai/generative-ai/docs/models/gemini/2-5-flash. In the navigation on the left are the gemini models listed. And it tells you "Important: Only the global endpoint is supported. For more information, see Global endpoint."

The "Generative AI Leader" learning path on cloudskillsboost.google really helped me get the terminology down. The recommended lab “Gen AI Agents: Transform Your Organization” is the last course in that path.
Your starting point depends a bit on your existing tech knowledge. The bottom up/code-first approach probably starts with the “Introduction to Gemini 2.5 Pro” lab, but just a heads-up, there are a few known issues. If you get stuck, try searching this channel for workarounds.
I guess the top down & no-code approach would be some experimentation at https://aistudio.google.com/ or Agent Designer, but sadly there are no labs listed for that

So I've been working with the Agent labs and ended up in an dependency hell scenario. 😩 Trying to finish this lab (for the second time) : Build Generative AI Agents with Vertex AI and Flutter and I can't get gemini to generate anything because of a dependacy error, it seems. I tried upgrading and downgrading according to the first error message but that ended up impacting other packages I need. OY!!!! Yes, Video Generation is still very expensive, I'm hoping like Text Generation - the price will come down over the years. On the other hand, most AI apps that were $20/month now have a $200/month Pro plan so it may turn out Video generation just remains more expensive (due to high cost of inference for video, lots of input cost if you use an image, even Nvidia just running out of GPUs isn't helping with COGS).

RD, so that people all over the world can join live classes we are running them twice a day. From what you are saying, I guess you are either in Europe or Africa - that's good news, because you can join either morning or evening Greenwich time, and feel free to join interchangeably. The scope of class should be 95% the same.

First, you've received credits for Google Skills. There are dozens of really great labs - guided workshops - that are helping you to practice various skills on GCP (and AI). Once you access the lab you gain temporary, yet super powerful virtual machine to work on, so even the big workloads can be processed fast and for free. Some of those labs require "credits" that we have provided you with.
Secondly, AI Studio has a quite generous daily limit of tokens and calls, you should be able to play around with that as well. That being said, if you are at the next stage and are building for production, or utilizing more API calls than are daily limit - yes, you need to tie your API key with specific GCP Project.

Good news - the Free Trial (usd 300) can apply to such GCP project; moreover the GFS Cloud Program I mentioned offer much more in Cloud Credits that can be spent on Google Cloud Platform and Vertex AI APIs.

hey great info so far - a little feedback - for those of use who have already used up their free intial cloud credit forever ago can you also add a genai SDK version of the colabs instead of Vertex only. All the vertex colabs are billable accounts only. Thanks

Billing Assumption: The Vertex AI path assumes you are a business or a startup with a Google Cloud project, where billing is usually enabled to access the enterprise-grade infrastructure, security, and the higher-tier capabilities of models like Imagen. While new users get a $300 free credit, enabling billing is a prerequisite to use many of these services, even if the cost is covered by the credit. (Billable for existing users)

SDK and Authentication:

Vertex AI: Uses the google-cloud-aiplatform SDK. Authentication uses Google Cloud credentials (IAM, Service Accounts), which are automatically handled in Colab with auth.authenticate_user() after you've set up a billable project.

AI Studio: Uses the simpler google-genai SDK. Authentication uses a single API Key, which is much faster to set up for personal development and adheres to the free-tier limits.

I did see the new vertex api express but again its 2FA and needs another google account opened to use this..

Yes, please follow the whole procedure from the beginning as in the instruction, and if this link works as intended you should see the 9 credits in Google Skills even before performing the "Tour of Qwiklabs" which will grant you additional 200 when you pass it and spend more than 6 minutes in it.

I started from scratch and indeed found the 9 credits :D. While waiting for your solution I did the Lab "GSP282 - A Tour of Google Cloud Hands-on Labs" in more than 6 minutes and with a 100% score but no credits were given. Here we go again? 🙂

9 credits means that the unique link worked. Now if you complete the suggested Tours of Qwiklabs you will get additional 200 and you can use the 209 for the next 6 months to perform any labs on the Google Skills platform. Because you need to "pay" for some Labs with those credits, that's why we are granting you them. Its only this "Tour" where you earn, otherwise labs are either free of "cost" some credits (because you get access to powerful virtual machines with them).

As for the L100-300 - this is the North American university system, a naming convention for how difficult content is. Popularized by tech companies.
In short L100 is beginner, L200 is Intermediate and L300 is advanced.

Hey has anyone applied to the google cloud startup credits - prefunded tier ? I have applied 2 times and got rejected twice on : "After a careful review, we've determined that your startup is not eligible to participate at this time. This decision is based on our program's core requirement for a globally available public website that clearly showcases a digital-native business model.

Our team was unable to validate this requirement from the information provided. For an application to be approved, we need to see clear details about the business, team behind it, and product on a public website. " I am not sure why my startup is not eligible, I checked many times to make sure that my landing page has clear details about the business + team behind + product . Could anyone help ?

Hey! I can help with this. Most of the time this rejection happens when Google can’t clearly verify the startup details on the public site things like a visible product description, team profiles, company info, or the product actually being accessible/usable from the site.
If you want, you can share your website link and I can quickly check what might be causing the issue. Sometimes it’s just small things like missing team pages, unclear product explanation, or the site looking like a placeholder.
