Hello, please don't tag the admins, it is not necessary, you can ask the question and when someone who knows the answer sees it, they will answer you
Hello I am Nakul
I want to participate in GSoCβ25 and I have little experience in open source contributions. Can anyone guide me on how to choose an org and how to start contributing? As a complete beginner all the issues I see for every org are very hard and it makes me feel like I wont be able to do any of them.
Hello Nakul! Welcome aboard! β You can check on above. You might find some useful stuff π
thanks gabriel
So after selecting an org what are we actually supposed to do? Are we supposed to contribute to an existing project?
everyone is webpack org good for this gsoc and for begineer
Hi, How Country is determined. In the FAQ it says, it will be determined by your location during coding period. However, after June (first month of coding), I'll move to another country and will do rest of work there?
Hi guys
CAN SMONE REALY HELP ME WITH GETTING STARTED TO THIS AND UNDERSTAND OS. THANK YOU !
Hi guys, I'm Surya
I want to contribute to in GSoC this summer
I'm into Web Development. I'm learning MERN stack (mongodb, express, react, and node js)
i wonder if im at a good starting point or if i still have to work up on my skills ( I'm always willing to learn btw)
If you feel that the webpack's tech stack is aligned with your tech stack and you are interested in the topics ,webpack used , then it will be a good organization for u as a beginner
Hi! π
We haven't announce the 2025 program yet.
In the meantime, please check out g.co/gsoc and the program timeline for more information on the GSoC program and review the GSoC 24' mentoring organizations. We strongly encourage you to find 2-4 orgs that interest you and reach out to them now to discuss the project ideas (before contributor applications open around late feb- april).
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
Can I participate with an organization I participated in 2020?
irc u can only participate once only
Hello please someone who have contributed to the open source earlier can guide me to start contributing to the same
Sorry for repeating the same question I did a few months ago. My organization would like to participate if GSoC. A few months ago someone told me that in October the organization could be able to apply, but periodically check the web and the channel and I have not seen the call. Am I missing something?
Please send us an email to gsoc-support@google.com βοΈ
We have not announced a 2025 program yet. Generally org applications open in mid January.
Thanks for your quick answer, I will keep an eye on this. And I will send an email π
Hey folks, I was trying to join the alumni channel, but seems like the /saymagicword command is deprecated? I can't seem to execute the command
Hi everyone,
I'm Mamatha, I'm eager to participate in GSoC 2025 and contribute to open-source projects.
I'm a bit new to open source, so I'm looking for guidance on:
- How to choose a suitable organization
- Getting started with open-source contributions
- Connecting with mentors from previous GSoC participants
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hello and welcome aboard πβ
Thanks Gabriel
After selecting an org what are we actually supposed to do? Are we supposed to contribute to an existing previous year project?
You can check this reply @vestal phoenix
Hello everyone! I'm a first-year student and I'm really excited about contributing to Google Summer of Code (GSoC) in 2025. Iβd love some guidance on how to get started.I am currently with some basics skills such as html css and javascript I also have a good hand on Java. Could someone help me with understanding:
What the requirements are for GSoC β are there specific skills or prerequisites I should focus on?
Which programming languages would be best to learn for GSoC?
How to start preparing from scratch β any resources, projects, or communities that would be helpful?
You can check this #google-summer-of-code message π
Hi, I am Akash from India, Tamil Nadu. I am studying in the third year of Btech Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and I am interested in participating in Google's Summer of Code 2025. And familiar with languages like Python, R, and some concepts of DevOps.
Hi! Glad to hear it! π€
One good place to look is the organizations from previous years. Many organizations participate in GSoC year after year, so looking at previously accepted organizations can be a good way to figure out who you want to work with in the future. By clicking on the organization you can get more information about it. Many of them will have tags associated with them.
The GSoC orgs want participants who want to be a part of their community. And the best way for participants to show that is to interact with them before the program application period begins (~mid february-march). Orgs are welcome to request participants to contribute before the application period, as it shows clear interest and involvement in the community, key indicators to successful participants who go on and stay involved in the community after their GSoC summer ends.
Thank you for the information π
I have started to explore on the old projects and proposals make selected
I have some issues in finding available projects of the organization in GitHub could you help in that
Same doubt
We haven't announced the 2025 program yet, in the meantime you can review Previously accepted Orgs βΊοΈ
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
I just sent an email to the organization Iβm interested in, should I do anything else? Or I just have to wait for them to reply
You can look through their documentation and look at their discussion channels to see the conversations that are happening in the community
got it thank you so much!!
How did you find out the organization email address?
I found it in here by clicking into past project and they will direct you to the org page
and then you can find their contact
Should we have to prepare for some projects earlier for GSOC 2025
can someone guide me about GSOC 2025?
me too
Hello, will there be an info session available about GSOC?
@worn lodge @hollow cosmos @idle wren You can check this out π
yes
step 0: wait a couple of months

Sorry for asking, is applying to gsoc very competitive, cuz Iβm new and wanna participate to gsoc 25
Yes, it is competitive, please stay tuned to our future info sessions, we'll be sharing tips to apply to GSoC 2025 π€
Okay thank you!
Is here anyone who had been the member of gsoc in last few years??βοΈ
I found a lot of sources to understand incentives for contributors. But couldn't find incentives for people whose project submissions get selected.
Do you mean for the mentoring organizations that participate in GSoC? For them it is about bringing new contributors into their communities to keep them healthy and vibrant. New perspectives are vital to a healthy open source community
@cunning ice yes if there are any mentor who can assist by giving key points in gsoc preparation and filing application.
It is your responsibility to do the research and read through the help docs. We strongly suggest you read the FAQ at g.co/gsoc and review the Help link at the bottom of the page and look at all of the resources available - especially the Contributor guide or mentor guide if your org is planning to apply to be a mentoring org for GSoC.
Can youu apply / send proposal to multiple organisations? Or if you get rejected you try again next year?
hello everyone. can anyone guuide me the procedure of how to apply in GSOC beacuse i am a newbie and just know java. and which stack to learn to qualify in it ?
Hello
Whom to contact??
Like we need to choose specific org
After that what to do?

Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
So, can you apply to multiple orgs?
Yes, we strongly encourage you to find at least 2 orgs to increase your chances. π
How to get a mentor, who can guide us to contribute properly
Is there a limit to how many orgs you can apply to?
hey apologies for asking idk what to do, my youtube keeps pausing at specifically 0:59 and idk why?
it just begins buffering
Yes, 3
Applying to just one usually takes a lot of effort assuming you don't have professional experience.
Hi, sadly this is not the right server to ask about that.
yep, thats why i ask, but i assume a lot of people contend for one position so it would hurt applying for two
I am interested to see statistics about the percentage of people that apply for one vs two vs three orgs.
I guess there is no public data available in this regard.
Depending on the data available in this blog: https://opensource.googleblog.com/2024/05/google-summer-of-code-2024-accepted-contributors-announced.html
Between ~20% and ~40% of applicants of gsoc 2024 sent more than one proposal, but this includes applicants who send more than one proposal to the same org.
indeed that would be great demographics to see. so when sending multiple to same org you send proposals for different projects they posted right?
Yes, you send multiple proposals for different projects.
Note that you can suggest project ideas to the org other than the suggested ones or make changes to the suggested ones.
I have read a ton of info online and did not know that. Were you a contributor?
Yes
I suggest that you read the contributor guide if you didn't.
i have read that, thank you
may i ask you more questions about your experience in DMs?
Yes, you can.
But this channel is about gsoc chats so it's preferred to ask here.
Ξ know, but they might ask us not to or someting, anyway
first of all what field did you work on? i see gsoc organizations are a very wide spectrum ranging from machine learning to vhdl and stuff.
Thank you @somber basalt
Do I just send a mail to them on the gsoc organisation page or how do I go about that @worldly meadow
Is there data to how many people applied for a project (or organization)? For instance I assume that open source projects like Open CV should have many applicants each year.
Also, do you have to be really familiar with the frameworks required to work on a project?
here for exapmle:
Super Rapid Annotator - Multimodal vision tool to annotate videos with LLaVA framework
(this was past year)
say that i am interested in this project, however i am not familiar with given framework. Will i be taught that during the intership? Will i have to prepare my self or i am simply not qualified to apply to this?
Hello everyone,What should we talk to the project mentors about? Should we discuss the 2025 projects or contribute to the 2024 projects, making PR's? which is more effective communication.
join the irc or slack of that org probably (if it exists)
What is the context of this question?
Is there any list of potential companies for GSOC 2025?
I already found a company I'd like to go for
Yeah, you usually use the contact info mentioned on this page.
But this info may be outdated so in such case (maybe you should do that anyway), search for contact info of this org on the internet (Their official website, git repo, etc).
This has probably been asked before, but can we propose something ourselves for an organization? For example say i have an idea about the implementation of X feature and I believe i am capable of implementing it.
I am asking this because, many people say to get in touch with the org you want to contribute from early. However, when the projects are announced, i am afraid i will not have experience with the needed frameworks / libraries to implement the project they want. So, is proposing something on my own a better idea? What do you think? Thanks in advance!
i did this last year, and got accepted so yeah, it works. but make sure that you and your mentor/admin are on the same page i.e. they actually want the project to be implemented
Hey everyone what's up

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if we could get the statistics for the GSoC 2024 program. In the Google Summer of Code 2024 Contributor Summit as well as in the final virtual meetup it was mentioned that the statistics would be published around November. I am not sure if it is canceled or still in plan. I would be very happy to see those statistics!
How exactly am I supposed to reach out to orgs? On archive most of the links/emails do not work.
i want to start summer of code but how can someone explain i can do web sites i am a front end and mobile developer also a c++ developer
#google-summer-of-code message try to check it out
Hey there's gonna be a webinar on 10 jan on how to crack GSoc. If interested dm or can check FED KIIT on Instagram or just google about it.
Hey @obtuse pilot please don't post the same message in multiple channels, select the channel that suits your message better and send it once
Hello everyone..
My name is Deborah and I am from Nigeria. I would love to have as many friends and networks as possible. Please be nice.
I am here for GSoC. Please, any one have an idea when it starts for 2025?
Around Feb it will start
February: Organizations release a list of participating organizations. This is a time to research the organizations, understand their goals, and review their project ideas.
MarchβApril: The proposal submission phase begins. This is when you should draft and submit a detailed proposal that outlines your project plan, deliverables, and timeline.
Early May: Selected contributors are announced.
Thank you very much.

Hello, I am preparing for GSOC from beginning, looking for some study partner who can help me if i am stuck somewhere
I too
actually i m confused that this year are we going to have a GSOC 2025 organised or not as they have not yet announced and usually every year till this time the org are able to register themselves so it will be helpful for us who are contributing in an org from last 6 months so please requesting @somber basalt to tell us the information about gsoc 2025 either its happening or not
we have not announced a 2025 GSoC program yet. Stay tuned for news very soon.
hypes!!
Hello ππ» Feel free to leave your questions here, any of our members who know the answers will help you π€
oh thanks
as this is gonna be my 1st time in gsoc
i needed some help
like what is the process of qualifying for gsoc
i think im too dumb to ask these type of question no one even answering ;-;
There's no dumb questions, just dumb people who don't ask π
what I think is every first timer would have gone through this
can i still join gsoc if i turn 18 in june?
the criteria for gsoc i head is to be student
how do you have top contributror title ?
You get it by being active on the server, being friendly and helping others, the admins choose who to give it to
oh damn
You must be at least 18 when you register. Registration is usually in March/ early April
π
Being a student is no longer a requirement.
Answering this question is kind of complicated.
This guide contains the answer: https://google.github.io/gsocguides/student
Read the introduction and applying sections. It is recommended to read the rest as they contain useful info.
This article discusses related topic from different perspective: https://google.github.io/gsocguides/mentor/selecting-a-student
Read it after reading the two sections mentioned before.
@cunning ice @somber basalt Should we start contributing to the organizations project thinking that gsoc will be organised this year as many orgs are ready with there project lists
You can always contribute to open source projects outside of a GSoC program.
We have not announced a GSoC 2025 program or any accepted orgs or dates yet..stay tuned.
the projects are different for gsoc?
Let's assume there is an organization that has participated in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) every year. You are currently working on a project for them or fixing issues within their existing projects, even before the official GSoC announcement. Would this increase your chances of being selected for GSoC?
Mostly yes. (the amount of increase depends on what you have done and it's relevance to the project idea that you will propose)
Note that even if an org participated every year at GSoC, it is not guaranteed that it will participate this year. (Or get accepted even if it applied)
Actually, there is no promise that there will be GSoC 2025 yet.
@cunning ice actually as per previous years data I observed that Google usually declared the program in late November and registration for orgs start from mid Jan but it's 01/13 still no update over the program
Can you please just share that GSOC 2025 is confirmed or not
as we have said multiple times - We have not announced a GSoC 2025 program yet..stay tuned.
I have seen people preparing for Gsoc can you hep me with that guide me
Dm please
imo, read https://google.github.io/gsocguides/ in its entirety, this is the best guide for mostly anything-GSoC

Now that the GSoC 2025 program has been announced π, is this canceled or something? I would appreciate it if GSoC admins could reply to this message so we can still wait for the 2024 statistics or set back and ignore it! π
Hello everyone,
Iβm Manik, new here! Iβm planning to apply for GSoC 2025 and wanted to ask if anyone has advice or tips for getting started with contributions. Any guidance would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance! π

hey so this is sort of off topic but are any of the open source companies hiring full time?
is it also possible to do GSoC if you've already graduated?
For gsoc are there gonna be different/new projects in organization repos? or we can still contribute in the organization repos and qualify for it?
also can anyone qualify gsoc just by doing first time label questions?

well at 1800 UTC (which is 11:30PM in India but not everywhere else). that's why we use UTC as the universal time then people can determine what that translates to in their local time.
We need to contribute to an organization's GitHub repository and prepare a contribution application to submit to them. However, we are uncertain whether the organization is officially participating in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) this year
right?
You can review the GSoC 24' mentoring organizations. We strongly encourage you to find 2-4 orgs that interest you and reach out to them now to discuss the project ideas (before contributor applications open on March 24th).

should i ask the organization wether which project should i contribute into?

sorry @somber basalt for asking these type of dumb question but this is my first time in gsoc so i dont know that much, but im curious to learn it
Hi!
You can review the Advice for people applying for GSoC π
what things should be mentioned while making a proposal for gsoc ?
can i use github codespace while working for gsoc
Hello everyone, i asked again but got no answer. Are there statistics available for past GSoC organization applicants etc? For example how many applied, percentage that got accepted per org...
You can find it in gsoc blog post
There is a page explaning the content of the proposal in detail
I can't find it, can you provide a link please? Thanks.
@willow lily
yes, i am asking about the statics, more in depth, not just how many orgs there are.
i don't think there is any in depth statistics yet but they said they are releasing new stats in the next weeks so maybe that's what you are looking for.
Good Morning
i only know java programming language can i contribute to any organization?
like i have heard people say javascript, angular, flutter is necessary if you are contributing in gsoc organizations
please correct me
We do not give stats on the percentage of applicants per org. As mentioned the blog posts often have stats on how many people applied to the program and how many had a proposal accepted.
Read the GSoC Contributor guide - the chapter on writing a good proposal
Each org rerquires different programming languages so when looking at orgs to apply to be sure to apply to the ones using the languages you are familiar with. Remember orgs can use multiple language but the GSOC project you may work on could just require one language depending on the project.
there will be a post with some additional statistics but we won't have a post wth just stats in it.
Hello everyone π

Hello, can you provide more context about your question
a program is to input 3 set of number.
the first line is the number of elements in the array, n
the second line is n elements, separated by a space.
the third line is the number to find within the elements inputted in the second line
I've solved it.
Hi im new to gsoc
How do i get started in participating in the competition can anyone help me out thank you!
Hi π
This guide will be helpful: #google-summer-of-code message
Good Luck
Thank you!
You should have joined the meeting that happened on 22/01/25; they shared many cool points.
Wasnt aware of it as i just got to know about gsoc
oh thats cool
Yep came here to learn as much as possible and know how things work as a contributor
feel free to ask anything if you need any help btw
Sure thank you for the help!!
This one was mainly for mentors
The one for contributors will start on 19 feb
oh
Details about time are mentioned at the end of this article: https://opensource.googleblog.com/2025/01/google-summer-of-code-2025-is-here.html
We'll also be hosting a GSOC contributor talk here on Discord on Monday, Feb 10th at 1600 UTC.
many gsoc orgs share idea list on their website do we have to work only on those?
98% of people will work on projects from the org's lists as those are things they want folks to work on in their communities. A few people will propose an idea they think will work well for the org, but it needs to be something that the org actually could use in their project, not just something you think would be cool
thanks for the report but in the future please contact us at gsoc-support@google.com please don't use the discussion group for bug reports. We're looking into this.
Okay, sorry.
no problem : )
will it be recorded?
No
is there any filtering process for contributors? If there more participants than ideas from orgs?
reading contributor guide
Does there is any limitations for making PR??
nope you can make any n number of PRs
What are you looking for?
anyone contributing for apache?
spammer
who?
Removed
someone was spamming some link for a gift card
oh
i dont know any tech stack can i still compete in gsoc
like my probability must be very low
You can contibute to
Documentation & technical writing,
ui/ux design,
writing tests,
good first issues,
Low-Code & No-Code ( if they exist)
even if i got selected in gsoc contributor first of all its very hard like the probability is too low
i wont be able to do any development in that org as i only know java wether i have to learn it aother language or figure out another way
Final year ?
Hello @bitter monolith ππ» I am sorry but looking for jobs is not allowed on this server, please check the #rules

Does it matter whether the organization adds mentors on the GSoC page before or after being accepted into GSoC?
If a person applies for mentoring organization under their profile, but gets rejected, would they still be able to apply for contributors? (just curious)
Hey, Does anybody know if I can apply fof GSOC if I am currently working as software engineer at firm?
me .. i want to participate ... but i ama a complete beginner
will it be on discord or google meet?
Each project thatβs accepted by GSOC in an organization always have mentors.
@nimble robin Yess for gsoc related doubts
No, it hasnβt started. Iβll strongly advise you check the GSOC home page. The timeline for this year is there. They also have a contributor guide that has a lot of FAQs and guidelines on proposals and many things you can think of

I'm hoping to apply for a project in medical ml/variants
trying to contribute for the first time with my basic understanding of fullstack knowledge
can any one please guide me
can someone show a place to search for previous mentors? I'd like to see which companies have accepted projects for medical ml before and know more 'bout them before this year's list is announced.

Hey @somber basalt the events channel says the meet is at 21:30 utc , can you please clarify the time..
it's not 2130 utc, its showing the time in your local time zone
Hey I am new to this channel and can anyone please tell me which way I can show my contribution to the flutter project which I already clone from github in gsoc 2025
Hey!
Can anyone please tell me, in the "organisation profile" form, should we share the github repo of the parent company or the project/product we would like to submit for GSOC?
when we have participate as an contributor and can we register it earlier
It should be the project you are applying for to be a mentoring org
no
@cunning ice I have a doubt that I had been contributing to an org from fast few months also they had released an idea list and in that Idealist there is the idea should I start discussing with them on that idea hoping the org will be selected this year
you can certainly do that but there is no guarantee the org will be accepted
ok thanks!
Hi there! Iβm Joel from Cameroon in Africa, but I currently live in Senegal for my studies. We have mentors from 138 countries and participants from 123 so English is not the first language for most people. It is the language used for the program so you can use translation tools if necessary. Many people will have broken English in their communications and that is totally fine. We can not help you improce your English. That is probably something that would come naturally as you participate in the program.

Hi folks, I wonder how GSoC determines if a non-student contributor is eligible to participate in GSoC, say, how to check a non-student is an open source beginner π
your github profile, probably
Most of the students are considered beginner by default.
I guess GSoC has folks/mentors/AI/bots who are also assigned to spot who's actually tryna sneak in for (non students).
They probably check your GitHub and other public profiles to see your open-source history since contributions show up in the repos youβve worked on.β
how to select an orgination for gsoc can any one help

Hey guys...!!! I'm Tarun from Hyderabad,India... I would like to interact with Apache Foundation Orgnization Mentors... How can I talk to them ??
Can't wait
You can redirect to the ASF slack channel, else you can dm me with your ASF project (for e.g. Apisix) name, and I can shoot you the invite link (just not sharing any external links here).
Hi everyone, I'm OAK. I would like to interact with the python software foundation organisation mentors.
How can I talk to them?
one way is to view old project list and connect with the mentors on LinkedIn //what ever platform they might be on

Hey, I wanted to ask whether Google selects the project ideas listed by organizations, or does Google allocate the seats to the organizations, and then the organizations choose the projects they want to work on during the summer?
The org admins choose the project proposals that they want to work on then Google allocate slots to the org. (It may be less than what the org wanted)
This article has more details about this:
https://google.github.io/gsocguides/mentor/selecting-students-and-mentors

Hello everyone,
This question is regarding Outreachy, if anyone can help.
I did not recieve any notifications regarding the outreachy internship applications this year. Now they say that deadline is crossed. What should I do in such case ? The mailing archive also shows that no emails were sent this year as reminders
Not the perfect text-channel to discuss this I guess, but curious, were you looking forward to applying as a mentor or mentee?
Yes, I won't be asking questions other than gsoc here.
I wasn't looking forward to apply, as I have already done GSoC. So we should promote newcomers. But some of the juniors around me were asking the same thing from me, so I thought maybe we could help. But Ig nothing can be done now. Don't know why they didn't send the mails this time
I see ... Well, if the goal is to promote open-source among newcomers, you can redirect them to the GSoC program itself, if that works
Yes actually I did the same π€
Hi,
Can working professionals participate in GSoC?
I am confused between these two.
This mentions that anyone above 18 be it student or not can participate.
https://opensource.googleblog.com/2021/11/expanding-google-summer-of-code-in-2022.html
But on official FAQ page, it mentions that working professionals cannot take part.
https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/faq#i_am_a_professional_software_engineer_but_i_have_not_participated_in_open_source_communities_before_am_i_eligible
the first link is a blog post from 4 years ago- the program changes each year. Read the 2025 program rules and faq for what is happening this year.
It says on the website that this years participating organizations will be announced on the 27th of this month,
till then, is there anything I should be doing that can be useful or do I have to wait?
You should read through the contributor guide to understand the ins and outs of the program and also make sure you understand the Program Rules, etc.
todays gsoc meeting was fun

Hii Siya I'm also applying for GSoC for the first time, yeah definitely need some good tips
The application now open or Close
If an org is coming to GSOC from the past 16 years continuously what are the chances of the org getting selected this year ?? @somber basalt
Doesn't matter, I would suggest don't go for probability.. just pick the org and connect their respective mentor and ask them if respective org is coming to this year or not

Hello everyone, I am Ravi I am contributing for the first time as a contributor in GSoc, I want to learn how I should choose the best orgs to contribute which are well suited for me ?

Hello, I think it is different for each organization. If you want, you might could ask to the organization which you're interested.
Hello, Ravi. I think is very important to search by your skills, language and difficulty https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2025-ao/organizations You could search using that criteria, also important is to know your stack, which technologies you know, how was your previous experience and what will you need to reinforce or learn.

Hello, I'm participating in gsoc for the first time, Can I get a small guide on best ways to interact with the organizations and with whom?

Hello there, I am Shubham diploma Engineer in Electronics and telecommunication from KIIT University Bhubaneswar, wanted to contribute in GSOC orgs, Hope everyone are doing all good,
I have a good skills in Java, cpp and Python, desktop applications and UI/UX designing , with Front end web developement and backend using Java Sprintboot. Hope there are mentors who reading this
could u recommend me which orgs or project should I choose
maybe start by actually looking at available orgs and their projects, its ur own job to
ig look at the available options on each org page like some have their slack linked, and try talking there
I got it ,, did you got ur mentor details
Hello everyone! Are there any info upcoming info sessions about the GSOC application process? I was also wondering how we can access previous info session recordings.

I have been trying to sign in to the Google Contributor License Agreement, but a server error occurs. Help me with any solutions available.
Thank you
the registration is not started.
I was asking about how to connect with mentors , i know registration not started
Thanks for your reply
I got connected with project mentor, so no worries
you can see gsoc 2024 projects and their respective mentors.. or directly slide into their slacks
Hello @left tangle, can you guide me a bit about gsoc?
Hi, can a medium project, if it does all the additional tasks requested, be upgraded to a higher-level 350h+ project?
and is it better to contact several different mentors if we're interested in several projects from several different organizations?
Hi what kinds of help do you needs?
I don't know if its advisable to do several projects at once, but you won't get an answer from one mentor if you apply now
think of it as applying to jobs, you apply to many, get interviews with some, and finally join one
hey, what do u mean by wont get an answer now
I've contacted a few orgs and only received a response from one
In my case, the mentors themselves aren't interacting with anyone and there's no way to contact them directly
even the organization contacted me, all of the communication between me and the mentors are happening through someone till they get a proposal and accept/deny it
one organization's email doesn't even work, they've linked a mailing list for which only ppl with that organization's email can sub to, and they've a glitter chatroom where it's just other candidates
Assalamualaikum everyone!
I hope you all are doing well. So, basically I am eager to participate in GSoC and want to contribute effectively. My current expertise lies in C++ fundamentals and object-oriented programming (OOP). I would appreciate any guidance on organizations that work with these concepts.
If anyone can suggest relevant organizations or provide direction on how to find suitable projects, I would be grateful for the help.
Thank you!
there are filters in the org place, you can choose your relevant filters and also search on your speific skill if the filters do not suffice
I want to contact google deepmind mentors for gsoc. Can anyone guide me?
there's an email and twitter link on the organization page
you probably won't be able to ontact the mentors directly as of now, but there'll be a team to respond to you. the mentors will then get in touch with you if they like your proposal and accept it
Can we apply to the same org that we were accepted into and worked with in 2024?
@cunning ice
You will unlikely be directed to contact a particular mentor at this point. the orgs will have you use their general contact method as listed on their site on the GSOC page for their org. If there is a Contributor Guidance link listed be sure to follow those directions exactly for the org.
Technically yes, but it is not encouraged. We encourage orgs to bring new people into their communities and we would encourage you to look at another org to keep learning more about open source.
No you can not upgrade to a large project. Whatever size project the project idea is listed for by the org is what you must put on your proposal when submitting it. If they ask for a medium project size and you select large your proposal can not be accepted.
YOu don't need to do that. Follow the instructions from the orgs as to what they want you to do.
Hey @cunning ice
I got the following message for my pull request.
Thanks for your pull request! It looks like this may be your first contribution to a Google open source project. Before we can look at your pull request, you'll need to sign a Contributor License Agreement (CLA).
Thanks for your time!
Contributing to google-gemini
Ah I see. Well I don't have knowledge of the CLA so you'll have to ask the org
I think I've understood something, we don't choose a sunna organization project, these are just ideas and we have to propose a project to the organization based on these ideas?
no the project idea is what you would work on. Your proposal is how you would tackle doing that idea.
Hi everyone,
I submitted my Google Form for the GSoC - Internet Archive with my proposal link but haven't received a response yet. Has anyone else who applied to the Internet Archive heard back from them?
the project I want to do has no time limit and has several optional points, which is why I'm lost.
you need to talk to the org, I can't help you clarify their ideas.
Hi @cunning ice
Really thank you for the time you spend answering our questions, seriously the answers are clear, concise and precise.
Thanks
Hi @coral spire it all depends on the organization. They have their specific conditions and we must scrupulously respect them to have a chance and above all be well informed
do i need to have a prior experience to apply to them
No, prior experience working in open source/industry is not necessary but for some projects experience in certain technology is required. It depends on the project.
A strong coding ability/experience is required though.
Hello Everyone,
In the Timeline of the praposal, 90H project timeline is prepare 8 weeks or it also a 12 weeks.
Thnka You in advance.
Hi everyone i am a bit confused it says the application to be a participant for google summer of code opens on March 24th but I saw a lot people already sending their proposal are we supposed send proposals to the organization we thinking of working with before that date and is there a limit to how many organization we can send a proposal too ?
The list of orgs are out and their ideas/ project are out too you can start working on the proposal and send you proposal as per org respective deadline :)
where are the org deadlines?
you cant find it on their respective idea list page
And a quick reminder to anyone applying to a GSoC org- heavy use of LLMs for your conversations and your proposals will immediately put you at a disadvantage and you are very unlikely to be accepted by the org. The mentors are already frustrated by people trying to do this during the past week...
I was interested in contacting some people at google deepmind for questions - anyone know where to reach them? am i supposed to email webpaige@google.com (contact listed on gsoc)? the general discord has a lot of repos, but i dont see a way to contact mentors.
how are people sending their proposals currently for the org's opinions since gsoc proposals are not open right now.
there is a possibility that those people you are talking about are sharing their personal idea to the orgs? can you specify whom you talking about?
im talking about if people send their proposals to the orgs for review prior to the actual gsoc submissions. Is it through the same social links listed on the org pages
Yes, many people share draft proposals with orgs for feedback via the social links on the org pages, like mailing lists or chat platforms. @mint swift
alri thanks!
himanxu helps everyone π€£
@twin hemlock should i first solve their issues on their github repos or should i directly start working on one of thier project ideas?
awkwardness speaks..
Itβs best to start by solving their issues to get familiar with the codebase, then move on to project ideas.
my bad, haha
this is my first time doing this can anyone share how they write the proposals for the org they want to work with. any tips or advices for a beginner

Thank you i was a bit confused reading the chat and looking at the info on the website
can someone tell the approximate response time for geomscale applicants and whether they reply through mails asking for more info?
Hi fellow applicants,
Could anyone (past GSoC contributors or aspiring contributors) tell me how you go about understanding code base etc? I found a project I want to work on but without any industry or open source experience, I'm finding that I only know how to code/use git/github etc.... but absolutely no idea how things work in a project.... Any guidance/helpful tips?
I've reached out to orgs but it seems maybe they are expecting people who know how things work? Because I received very little guidance and I don't want to bother them on how to get started....
I've overcame this barrier by following the codebase from the public facing ui. When you see the html page, and it links to somewhere deeper in the base, then you check that out. I've found this method easier to navigate within the codebase when there aren't proper docs/outdated docs in place.
hey may anyone explain me how can i register for gsoc 2025

Hey people, I am on my F1 status in US and am I allowed to participate in GSOC ? and do I need CPT for this ... ?? any help on hilghly appreciated.
Hi @somber basalt, I attended today's info session and wanted to ask something. Unfortunately, the question was not taken so thought of asking it here. One of the organization has mentioned that a project is in the 350 hr category whereas classified as medium level difficulty. For this case, which stipend category is applicable?
Guys I messed up big time
I thought I need to start contribution in gaoc in March
But for gsoc I saw videos online they say to start contribution in November
Pls help me and guide me wht to do I don't know π
I really wanna learn through gsoc
YOu have to figure that out for yourself- asking your student advisor is the best option and you should do that now so in case you can't you'll know before you apply.
Thanks for that tip, will try some exploring
@cunning ice help
you do not have to start contributing in November. Many people start reaching out this week and that is still ok
Has anyone been able to contact GeomScale? They haven't replied through mails, and the last message in their mailing list is from 2024. Also, the glitter chatroom is pretty much dead and has no information from the organizers.
why this is not clickable
any particular tech stack are you currently working on or have any knowledge
i didn't look at that
thanks
Hello π I was in yesterday's meeting and unfortunately my question was not answered. So a small info dump, I am mostly familiar with hardware due to the branch of my University, I know C,C++,Verilog and some Python. The reason why I wanted to join is that this far I have programmed small project, simple stuff for University or for my own curiosity. Do you think summer of code will be able to help me develop as a programmer and learn how to make a far bigger, more complex project w,connecting multiple components (aka codes) ? (I really want to improve my "software" writing part of my skills thus deciding to contribute :))) )
Also do you think that our personal University studies/fun-projects or personal studies will help us get picked? Since we will be showcasing our work, skills, mindset and approach to problem solving ? :)
Thank you for your time π

GSoC is a unique program where contributors can be mentored while gaining real-work experience, it helps improving your current skills and contribute with exciting communities.
We strongly encourage all the participants to communicate early with their preferred Organizations to find the best fit and also participate by fixing a bug, complete tests, etc that's the best way to show your skills and increase your chances of being accepted.
Can I apply for It?
Ive also made many small projects and some big ones too but all of them I've done alone and are unknown to the world. I really hope that I actually make something helpful or like kinda big. I haven't joined any of your last meetings becouse today is my first day in Google development services or whatever. If you can get me to join it in the middle of the session so may I try?
Can anyone explain to me how I can participate in gsoc 2025?
@somber basalt
Hello there! I'm a first-timer in GSoC, and I'm excited to begin contributing to open-source. But as a beginner, I'm not too sure about how to go about beginning and how I can prove my worth to the community. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or tips on how to begin and especially how to do it as a beginner like me.
As a reference, I have worked on MERN stack, Next.js, deep learning, and AI projects. My work is available on my Portfolio and LinkedIn. If you have any recommendations on the best way to contribute, or where the most easily accessible issues are to fix for a beginner like me, I would appreciate your assistance.
So happy to begin! Thank you ahead of time for your feedback.
Experienced full-stack developer and machine learning enthusiast crafting exceptional digital experiences through modern web applications.
Thank you for answering.
Hello everyone! What are the requirement GSoC?
Two years ago, I applied for GSoC but got rejected. I am back this time to give a shot. If I may ask, what are the recommendation for getting accepted for GSoC?
Is there any hint or tactic that one can follow to maximise his opportunity.
Hello everyone and @somber basalt ,
I'm Aastha Bhat, a second-year student and a first-time GSoC applicant. While I have experience contributing to open-source projects, GSoC is new to me, and I would love any guidance on maximizing my chances of selection.

Hi team
I'm a previous year GSoC contributor and was supposed to be a mentor this year and accepted the invite from the org about a month ago. However, I wish to deregister as a mentor and participate as a contributor again. Is it possible to do so?
Please do not tag the admins to review individual situations.
If you reviewed our GSoC Webapp and still you can't find the answer you are welcome to send us a quick email: gsoc-support@google.com

You need to withdraw from the mentor role, if you are mentor you won't be able to participate as contributor.

Hello π Welcome aboard. Please try to use English. So that everyone would be able to understand you π
βOkay! But my English isnβt very good π

It's Okay π As long as they understand you
I'm the only one here! And I want to learn)) There's just one problem.))
do we need to register or something before reaching out to organizations about their project idea???
I won't be a bother to you! I just want to be useful! But I myself am a beginner!)
or should i just directly reach out to them??
Yess registration process is not started yet
Guys I need a help I'm an Indian first year btech student with a small amount of coding expertise do you guys think I'll be able to take part in any gsoc project?
Hello everyone
Please is anyone else facing an issue to create his/her GSoC dashboard?
Hey everyone,
So I am confused about the process right now. The GSOC website shows that I am not registered yet and what do I need to do for the proposal?
I am working as a Front end developer having 2+ years of exp, can I apply or contribute to GSoC?
Thanks for your interest in Google Summer of Code!
Contributor applications open March 24, 2025 at 18:00 UTC.
In the meantime, please check out g.co/gsoc and the program timeline for more information on the GSoC program and review the 185 mentoring organizations for 2025. We strongly encourage you to find 2-4 orgs that interest you and reach out to them now to discuss the project ideas (before contributor applications open).

How do I register? I am signed in but I can't find where to register anywhere, can someone help me please?
Contributor applications open March 24, 2025 at 18:00 UTC.
At that point you will need to create a new account in our GSoC webapp (there will be a button which says βRegister to become a contributorβ) on the dashboard in the middle of the homepage (it will also appear in the menu on the left side navigation bar).
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
@somber basalt
So we will be able to register after 24th March and need to start reaching out to the organization from now on right?
Is GSoC paid work or volunteer? Can't find any info on website
I don't think you can apply for contributor if you're not student, check the rule 7.1.b from https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/rules: Ineligible Individuals. A GSoC Contributor may not participate in the Program if: They are an employee (including intern), contractor, officer, or director of: an Organization or any of its affiliates.

it's paid. Check this https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/rules

How much?
Browsed the page but could find
How are the stipend amounts determined?
We are using a Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) based calculation to determine the stipend.
For medium sized projects: We start with a base amount of 3000 USD and then adjust it based on each country's PPP value. There is a minimum (1500 USD) and maximum (3300 USD) stipend amount.
For large sized projects: We start with a base amount of 6000 USD and then adjust it based on each country's PPP value. There is a minimum (3000 USD) and maximum (6600 USD) stipend amount.
For small sized projects: Google starts with a base amount of 1500 USD and then adjust it based on each country's PPP value. There is a minimum (750 USD) and maximum (1650 USD) stipend amount.
From https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/help/student-stipends#:~:text=There is a minimum (1500,on%20each%20country's%20PPP%20value.
Of course you can, but try avoiding the well-known projects like OpenCV, PostgreSQL, Deepmind and etc. The competition is ridiculously insane. I applied few well-known projects last year and got all failed. Even though I have merged 3 PRs before the application open and I think my proposals were good and detailed.
Thanks
Yep competition for DeepMind is really crazy. To my knowledge it's hyped to the point a popular Indian YouTuber made entire 1-hour long videos just showing people how to target DeepMind and these videos have 30K+ views last I checked. I do feel for the maintainers of their public repos having so many people interested π
What's the error?
Hello @somber basalt Hi,
I hope you're doing well! My name is Sakshi Jadhav, and I am interested in contributing to GSoC 2025 under google deepmind. I am particularly excited about the project idea "Evaluate Gemini 2.0 on an Open-Source Benchmark."
Since Gemini 2.0 is not open-source, I understand that direct evaluation might not be possible. However, I have access to Googleβs evaluation results on MMLU, which can provide valuable insights. My approach would involve:
Analyzing existing Gemini 2.0 results on MMLU to understand its performance.
Proposing a multimodal benchmarking framework for evaluating Gemini 2.0 theoretically.
I would love to hear your thoughts on whether this approach aligns with the projectβs goals. Additionally, Iβd appreciate any guidance on refining my proposal and ensuring it brings value to the open-source community.
Hi all, I was wondering if I am eligible to apply or be accepted on 2025 google summer of code while having an on-campus job in the US. Would really appreciate if anybody knows about this!
that's correct π
Please do not tag the admins to review individual situations.
If you reviewed our GSoC Webapp and still you can't find the answer you are welcome to send us a quick email: gsoc-support@google.com
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
It is not encouraged for people to apply and take part in both GSoC and a full time job at the same time. When people try to do this they generally end up not doing well with either and drop one of their programs during the summer because it is way too much of a time commitment to do both at the same time.
Most of the people who fail GSoC are people who have other significant time commitments also, you have to review if your current employer allows you to participate and receive the stipend, generally there are a lot of restrictions in the contracts.
What documents may Google request of applicants as proof of eligibility?
I am currently working as a student employee on campus, which is a part-time job and it would end at the end of the spring semester (May 13). I guess I am still eligible then because it is not a full time job and I won't be working for this job after the semester, which is before the actual start of coding (June 2)?
If you are selected as GSoC Contributor and wants to receive the stipend you'll need to share some documentation in the Payoneer webapp to create your acct and receive the stipend, please review Contributor Payment Information
So it won't be necessary to submit a proof of enrollment like it says in here: https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/help/proof-of-enrollment ? (I noticed it says 2021 but I'd like to confirm if this is still needed)
Hi everyone π. I hope you are doing well. I need to ask a question urgently.
Most organisations provide a number of project ideas which is maybe twice or one and and half the average number of accepted ones over past years involving in GSOC. If a pick a project idea for a specific org, how could I guarantee it will be funded?
Is it the case that as long as it is listed there, it will be funded
Or I should communicate with mentors. Do they have priority regarding projects. On which criteria this stuff is decided, GSoC or organisation mentors?
Quick question here, I'm currently a freshman and if I am planning to take a leave of absence after this spring semester, does that mean that I am ineligible for applying and participating GSoC program?
Can someone help in how one can join this session since the Google form is no longer accepting responses.
Virtual Event - We're reaching out to let you know about an upcoming virtual workshop we're hosting to promote Google Summer of Code (GSoC) - https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/. The workshop will include an introduction to GSoC and feature speakers who have completed the program. They'll share their experiences and answer any questions.
Hi everyone,
I am Sakshi Jadhav, a GSoC 2025 aspirant, and I am interested in contributing to the "Evaluating Gemini 2.0 on Open-Source Benchmarks" project under Google DeepMind.
Is anyone else working on or considering this project? I would love to connect, discuss ideas, and collaborate on proposal drafting.
Hello every one. How're you doing contacting with the orgs?
Does anyone know what we should put on the proposals if we have a preferred name?
Are you aware that only one can be accepted on the same project idea?
If two applicants are interested in the same project idea then they are competing each other and there is a conflict of interest.
Hi π
Orgs are different in the communication channels they use and how they prefer to be contacted.
Read the gsoc contributor guide if you didn't, it contains useful info in this regard.
Also try to find/read/follow the org guidelines in this regard if they exist.
What do you mean by "preferred name"?
You don't need to be a student to apply to gsoc.
Read the GSoC rules for more details about eligiblity.
@worldly meadow yeah I know but This is my first time applying for GSoC, so my primary focus is on learning and understanding the process. My approach will be to gain experience while contributing effectively to the project.
Why don't you benefit from the org mentors instead?
They can help you on what you mentioned
Thatβs exactly my plan! I want to learn from the org mentors, understand the project better, and improve my approach.
Ah, alright.
I thought you search for other gsoc contributors who are interested in the same project idea you mentioned.
I understand! I'm not specifically looking for other contributors on the same project. I just need guidance on making my proposal and have some doubts that Iβd like to clarify.
Are this doubts relevant to the project idea?
You should then discuss it with the gsoc mentor who is responsible for it.
Yeah I mail them but haven't received any reply
How long did you wait?
2days
A name that you'd like to go by, that might not be your real name. For example if your name is Katherina but you'd like to be called casually as Cathy instead. And so on. I guess it's more popular if you have a non-Western name but live in a Western country
If after another day you didn't get a response, then try to review your question and make sure that it is a good question(search about how to write good questions if you didn't before). If you are sure that your question is good then send a reminder.
If you didn't get response then consider reporting that to the org admin or other org mentors.
At this stage, you should consider the possibility that you won't be able to apply to this project idea and it may be better to search for another project idea.
Ohk thank you π
There is no rules that you should put your official name on the proposal.
If the org doesn't explicitly require you to write your official name, then I think it is alright to just write your preferred one.
In the application, there is something called "Display Name" which will be visible to the public and you doesn't need to type your official name on it.
Sweet thanks π
Is it okay if we could go for 2 projects of same organisation or we have to just select 1 project for proposal ?!
Hey we can send upto 3 proposals right??
yes
In same org or 3 proposal of diff org
It is okay. You can send in only max upto 3 proposals. The proposals can be for projects from same or different orgs.
when the proposal submission starts?
March 24 - 18:00 UTC
I don't think we can send more than 1 proposal to same org
Nope, you can
This is mention here: https://google.github.io/gsocguides/student/writing-a-proposal#general-notes
Oh ok
Iβve seen some proposals have the first page as a cover with some logos and fancy formatting. Is that really necessary? My target org does not provide a template or any guidelines.
Nope, there is no general rule that requires such thing.
Thnx for clarifying
Does anyone have any tips for me to get selected for GSoC in the coming month? I am a first year in college.
Do you mean Girl Script Summer of Code?
This is irrelevant to this channel/server.
Sorry man, there was a typo. Its google summer of code.
Hi @loud shuttle welcome aboard. Make sure to read our server #rules before getting started. β I will delete this as this is not allowed inside the server. Avoid unsolicited tagging of users as well as much possible.
Hello everyone,
I am Jisnoo, a second year Computer Science student. I am really interested to contribute to the project: Gemma <> Hugging Face Spaces Demo, as I apply for GSoC'25.
I have previous experience on building user friendly gradio applications for open source models in the Hugging Face Hub.
I would like to know if I can contribute to existing codebase or improve any existing gradio templates for the Gemma model.
Thank you
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Thejas Mandya Shashidhara. I am pursuing a Masterβs in Computer Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. I expect to graduate in May 2026.A passionate Software Developer specializing in web and mobile applications, with expertise in the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js), Next.js, TypeScript, and cloud technologies like AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. I am looking forward to contribute to open source projects, any suggestions and any leads regarding open source repos will be really helpful
Google Summer of Code 2025 is open to participants that are over 18 years old and beginners to open source software development. (Students and beginners in open source)
Yes, you should reach out the mentors to discuss the project ideas, that will increase your chances of getting accepted and the opportunity to submit a great proposal.
Each mentoring organization will use certain languages. You can look at the 195 open source organizations to see the languages they use. You can even filter by the languages that you are familiar with to help narrow down your org selections.
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
Thank you, will take a look at it
hi i am a student in first year recently known about gsoc can anyone tell me is there any chance of me participting in gsoc i know javascript and python what can i do please guide me
Now there only 185 organizations
Hello All , wanted to get connected with communities to discuss on various projects around . But really i am a beginner in GSOC and really doing and going around alone has really been a difficult task for me . if anyone can guide me as to how to just get started with communities . Well as for my skills and area of interest are Web , Ai /Ml .
You need to decide which project fits your skills and interests. No one else can help you decide that. GSoC is an individual project so starting by finding the project that is a good fit for you is an importan first step. Remember you can use the filters on the GSoC webapp to filter the categories to include web and/or AI/ML to lower the number of orgs from 185 to something more manageable.
Hello everyone. I'm Elizabeth and a recent graduate and I'm into web development
Is it compulsory to connect with mentors now?

Hey guys, I'm an Spanish student of the double bachelor of Mathematics and Computer Science currently in Sydney, passionate of programming and AI. I've just seen this morning the Google Summer of Code and I'm very interested on it, although I'm a little bit lost. I've just read about the conditions and the legal terms, a bit about the timeline too. Someone has already done a proposal for some project and has received answer? Or someone is already talking with some organizations? Let me know too if this is not the place to ask this questions, I'm new on this platform π Thankssss
Many people are already talking to the organizations - their project ideas are available from their pages on the GSoC website. It is a good time to reach out to the organizations now to ask questions about the projects to helo you decide whihc project ideas you would like to write a proposal on
Hello everyone My name is Anurag, Doing my B. Tech+ MBA from IIITM Gwalior.
I'm highly interested to be contributing in the Google Summer of Code and really looking to contribute in the deepmind projects and specially in the project 3. Enhance Gemini API Integrations in OSS Agents Tools and 5. Enhance Gemini Support in Open-Source Extensions (Continue.dev/Aider-like)
now I didn't find out any github repo around them and not getting mods of these. so please help me out how can I contribute in them as I want to understand their codebases.
How can I communicate with organization and express my interest
Look at the Deepmind ideas list on the GSOC site for their instructions
Yess, I explored all the ideas and choosed among them, read the instructions now I had some queries around them and want to do my thinking check as I'm thinking is it correct or not.
we can' t help you with that
okays, got it.

Hello Everyone I am Teslim Iyaniwura , CTO of WhitePen .io , I am Proficient in Python , Java , C++ , A I & Machine Learning , it's my 1st Time as a contributor , how do I get Started ?
Hi Teslim π
Checkout this article: https://opensource.googleblog.com/2025/02/meet-mentoring-organizations-of-gsoc.html
Thank you , are you one of our Mentors in this Program ?
Nope, I am a contributor candidate.
Have you participated in GSOC before ?
Yes, GSoC 2023 at Apertium.
That's awesome !
Can we both work with Open CV ?
You can be like my Co - Pilot with ur experience !
Are you also a Developer expert ?
I am not interested in participating at this org.
Nope, I am a third-year Computer Science student.
You should discuss technical details with the org mentors.
You reminded me of something.
Are you interested in developing a Continuous Integration pipeline that is used by thousands of projects while collaborating with professional developers from all over the world to solve complex challenges?
Check out this GSoC project idea: https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2025/ApprovedProjects/SalsaCI
For some reason this project didn't get much attention from gsoc contributor candidates.
I am willing to work with this organization , r you also contributing t there Project ?
Which org?
I am an active contributor in it yes.
I was an intern there at the previous year so I am not interested to apply to it this year.
Ok
where can I find the org mentors for the Google Deepmind project?
Hello, i would like to ask if the website of GSoC is open for registration of contributors or we should wait until March 24. I logged in, but i do not find a link for registration.
they will open at or after 24th march
**Contributor applications open March 24, 2025 at 18:00 UTC.**π
At that point you will need to create a new account in our GSoC webapp (there will be a button which says βRegister to become a contributorβ) on the dashboard in the middle of the homepage (it will also appear in the menu on the left side navigation bar).

I also came by here to see if I could find an answer to this same question
glad I'm not alone
Can anyone answer this? Thanks
Hey Everyone,
I'm Agrim from India.
I'm currently pursuing undergraduate degree in Comp Sci at IIT Delhi.
I'm quite proficient in python/JS-TS and have done personal projects in web-dev and some in app development.
It's my first time as a contributor and I'm quite keen to learn new stuff.
I think I'd love to work on a large project.
I would really appreciate some guidance as to getting started and how the whole thing works.
Thanks

This is going to be online or offline?
how we have to send our proposal to organization?
like is there any option in gsoc website when the registration time starts?
or we have to mail it to respective mentor?
For each project in the idea list there are assigned mentors
https://gist.github.com/dynamicwebpaige/92f7739ad69d2863ac7e2032fe52fbad
Google Summer of Code: 2025 Google DeepMind Project List - gdm-gsoc-projects-2025.md
Folks who are applying to the big G's DeepMind.
Dr. Dongge Liu is the only mentor you can reach out to if you want to contribute to OSS Fuzz n stuff.
For the other ideas, you'll just have to put your proposal in, then it's russian roulette. You don't have to and according to Paige's new instructions - you shouldn't reach out to them about your proposals.
Quite contrary to standard GSoC stuff but that's what they say.
This looks bad, I wouldn't suggest that you apply with such mentors who tell you to just submit your proposal without any kind of communication/collaboration with them.
Proposal isn't enough to assess the candidate, Those mentors may realize that later and decide not to participate this year which will cause their candidates to being rejected from GSoC.
Yes I completely agree, hey y'all DO NOT apply to DeepMind.
(So that I can increase my chances ππ€£ )
Nah jokes aside, it's well certainly interesting, but yeah looking at the projects that DeepMind has it's more like mercy projects for newbies
Because let's be fr, an average DeepMind engineer could do all those projects in a weekend blindfolded and if they used a Logitech G29 steering wheel instead of a keyboard with one of their hands taped to the wheel.
FWIW: I have recently heard a friend of mine who got accepted on GSoC before that he didn't make any contact with his mentor but ended up being accepted.
He was communicating/collaborating with the other organization members. The first response from his mentor was after he has been accepted.
IF you want to significantly increase your chances in being accepted to the GSOC orgs you do need to reach out to the orgs (and hopefully have already been doing that). Each org will have their own requirements on what they want you to do but 95% will want you to reach out )though if you start reaching out next week they will likely be very busy with all the inquiries coming in so they won't have much time to respond).
How to reach out to the org?
Please explain
Hi, I tried to contact an org for queries but their slack channel link is invalid and its not working. I emailed them but no response
This is regarding UC - OSPO

Please re-read the instructions carefully (provided in the respective gist file). I'm pretty sure you'll get your answer. Rest if there are any other queries related to the application process in general, feel free to drop them here.
Yes, that's valid for many, but not for all π
I'd recommend sticking to their official guidelines. But as I said, in case you have any queries related to your proposal/statement, or rather any other doubts, feel free to discuss them here.
To your first question, the answer is no.
And to the latter, I was referring to general inquiries. Whether or not you disclose your proposal publicly is completely your sole decision.
@cunning ice where do we have to send them the proposal when the application period start will it be on gsoc website?
Hello ππ» please don't tag the admins, post your question, and when someone who knows about it sees your question they will help you

Hey everyone, I have 2 questions.
- As applications will open today for Gsoc contributor, will the orgs start reviewing the proposals which are being submitted or will do after 8th of April. And is there any advantage of submitting the proposal early.
- What if we apply to 2 orgs and both of them selects our proposal?
Good morning everyone.
I am new to opensource and needed to know how to reach out a mentor for the same. If I want to contribute to an organisation, how exactly will I reach out to a member of that org (make that member as my mentor).
Potential GSoC contributors discuss project ideas with accepted mentor organizations.
So how can we discuss the project ideas, whom to reach out... and how to reach out
can anyone help me apply for Gsco
I can't find any form of application that I can apply through
it should be accepting applications starting from today

Couple questions: Do GDEs get preferential treatment for GSoC?
And could the stipend for large projects be (somehow) increased? I'd love to contribute OSS but the "large" project is effectively a full-time 8-hour a day for 12 weeks job
I'm also interested in applying for the DeepMind and JAX/Keras track. Who can I contact?
Hi
π
No one has preferential treatment to participate in GSoC.
Reach out to Orgs by visiting their page and using their preferred contact methods. You can find the 185 mentoring organizations for 2025 here. We strongly encourage you to find 2-4 orgs that interest you and reach out to them now to discuss the project ideas (before contributor applications open).

At that point you will need to create a new account in our GSoC webapp (there will be a button which says βRegister to become a contributorβ) on the dashboard in the middle of the homepage (it will also appear in the menu on the left side navigation bar).
Can some one please answer to these questions?
If you apply early you'll increase your chances of getting a feedback and resubmit your proposal in time.
If in the rare case 2 orgs accept your proposal (usually only happens to about 10-15 people a year). Contributors will have the opportunity to rank their preferred proposals (this is not seen by mentors, only the Google Administrators). If you are selected by 2 orgs, Google can see your preferred choice and if itβs not the org that ranked you the highest, then Google can reach out and let that org know you preferred the other org. The org can then decide if they want to keep you on their project or let the other org accept your proposal and they can accept a different contributor.
I apologize but the button your referring too is disabled for me as well. Is there a workaround?
Thank you, I've already filled out the forms for the organizations I'm interested in - but is there no other way of contacting the mentors?
I have Jax/Keras org in mind and they simply have a form - no other contact details for general queries.
As for DeepMind, there's a note there:
If you don't see a project on the list that you feel should be included, feel free to propose a new idea.
Is there someone we can contact to confirm project ideas?
Please follow their instructions in the JAX and Keras page and review their "Contributor Guidance" link in order to comply with their application process. βΊοΈ
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
I would imagine many contributors would wish to work on something adjacent to these project ideas rather than the listed ideas themselves.
It will open in 55 minutes
Ah yes thats the form I was referring to that I already filled out
just wondering if there was a way to directly contact them
You need to share your proposal and once the Org reviewed your idea they will provide feedback.
Please be patient, the Org members are receiving a huge amount of messages during this period and they will take a while to come back with an answer.
Also can I submit 1 proposal after 1 day and 2 proposal after 5 days? or both should be submitted at same time.
You can submit 1 -3 proposals anytime between March 24 1800UTC and April 8 1800 UTC. Doesn't matter when during that time frame you submit them. We strongly encourage you to not wait until the final 48 hours to submit.
Hey everyone! i'm Gabriel, a developer passionate about web dev, cybersecurity, and open-source. Currently exploring cloud computing, AI/ML, and mobile dev. Excited to learn and collaborate.
Can anyone help me connect with Deepmind/Gemma mentor,I have a proposal ready but need some feedback. I am having a hard time finding my mentor.
I think the mentors for that are alloted by Google
so u wont be able to contact now ig
Each mentoring org has their own processes. The Ideas list for DeepMind explains what they want applicants to do. They are not responding to the many hundreds of people that have contacted them already (there are too many people for them to reply)
I'm surprised they're taking project proposal in consideration right now
I'd have imagined they'd filter out best candidates first before assigning mentors towards whatever project the contributors wish to do
Also uh, https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/register/contributor shows access denied (403)

I have a question we can send out 3 total proposals right and is it possible to send two proposals to one organization if you end up liking more than one idea from there idea list?
or do we just send one proposal with both the ideas they liked from the idea list to the organisation?
You can check the GSoC website. Register as a contributor then select the organisation you wish to contribute to and submit your proposal.
Can you send me the register link cause I can't find it
Please @dull otter do not tag moderators. You can ask your question here and wait for and answer.
I am getting access denied while registering for gsoc.
You will need to create a new account to register for GSoC 2025. There is a βRegister to become a contributorβ button about halfway down the g.co/gsoc home page that you need to click on and start the registration process.
Be sure you are not logged in with your Google account in the upper right corner.
Then you will need to create a new account to register for GSoC 2025. There is a βRegister to become a contributorβ button about halfway down the g.co/gsoc home page that you need to click on and start the registration process. It will then ask you for your preferred Google account at that point.
I am using my google account. and have registered in earlier gsoc too.
log out and log back in following the instructions above.
didn't worked out in my case, i wonder if it has been opened or not. However, time shows 24-March 1800UTC
Hello everyone! My name is Yelsin S., I'm a software engineer with a focus on devops and cloud infra. Currently finishing my A.S. in CompSci. I just learned about the GSoC program and am very interested! Happy and surprised yall made a discord for us to join haha. I explored the Orgs and some projects I'm interested in: KDE, GCC, Jenkins. Even reached out to some communities π
I just finished reading all of 'Contributor Guide'. It mentions not waiting till applications open. As I just found out about this, is it safe to assume I should stick this one out and wait for next year?
last year I barged in at around this time, got serious and submitted a proposal, and got accepted and succeeded in GSoC!
however I do not deny that you need to get up to speed now and not stop
I submitted a PR
started posting in forums and asking direct, precise technical questions
depends on the org
they are not equally competitive
Hello, sorry to disturb you all... I'm a beginner who wants to make baby steps into Open Source contribution. I had a look at the GSoC, basically, from what I've understood, we need to submit proposals to organizations for them to have a look, like we need to submit new features proposals, something like that, we can't contribute to existing technogies, like try to solve bugs? The issue with submitting new ideas is as a beginner, I really have little knowledge of all the technologies :c
Hi, I have been a contributor for gsoc 2024 and at the moment i cannott submit a new proposal if I log in with my google account. If i follow the 'Register to become a contributor' button I get an 'Access denied' page and if I log in I cannot submit a proposal from my proposals page. Is there a way to solve this problem?
no solution without new google account?
You aren't submitting new feature proposals. The orgs have their list of project ideas they want you to work on and you choose which idea looks interesting to you. THen you write a proposal on how you would accomplish that project.
no solution without new google account?
Ohh ok, I will have a look once again, thanks !
Anyone else get this?
Navigated to GSoC application portal through embedded browser on LinkedIn
that's odd. We;re looking into it but not sure why you are using Linkedin to log in to the GSoC site.
People on LinkedIn often make posts about random opportunities pertaining to students, when a user clicks on the link (or when I do) doesnβt open the external browser- instead youβre still in app (LinkedIn)
Hi! Anybody please share the details about gsoc and how to make an proposal. Any references
@marsh stratus hi can you share the Formate and how you design the proposal which is accepted.
Please review the Contributor Guide it has a section of "Writing a Proposal" that will help you with your applications.
Hey, can anyone explain me what is meant by I would like to decline payment for my participation in the program
it means you don't want to or can't accept the stipend (usually due to visa issues)
Okay, understood
understand that the limit is three proposals. Does this limit apply to each individual project, or is it based on the organization? For instance, if I'm interested in two projects within the same organization, can I submit them together as one proposal?
ech person can only submit a maximum of 3 proposals (you can submit 1 to org a, 1 to org b., and 1 to org c) or you can do 2 to org a and 1 to org b, you're decision.
No ,the proposal is written based on 1 project idea - that is the project you would do with the org. You would not write one proposal to encompass two projects.
word limit is exceeded here

Hello everyone,
I need help submitting my GSoC proposal. I am on the Google Summer of Code website (https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/), but I have been struggling to find the submission option.
I have been searching the page since yesterday but can't seem to locate where to upload my proposal.
Could someone please guide me through the process?
Thank you
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
First, click Register to become a contributor.
Then, in the top right corner, select the Contributor option.
After that, you'll get access to your dashboard. Navigate to the Proposals section, browse organizations, click on your chosen organization, and you will see the option to submit your proposal
Hi haven't recieved any update on the JAX/Keras track - I filled out the contact form a while back
Is it safe to assume no response as (basically) a rejection?
Thank you so much
Hello Everyone
We are planning for a GSOC guide session for our fellow at GDG Kathmandu
If anyone interested to volunteer your time in guiding new gsoc applicants then let me know
I guess it could mean that they are recieving too many requests
but that's just cope cuz even I didn't get a response
Hello everyone,
Can anyone please tell whether the Proposal title seen during submission of proposal is same as the Title given in the idea list ?
when is the session happening?
Yes, it is the same
Ok,Thank you
Can someone here please proof read my proposal ?
Can any
confirm this?
For JAX, should I fill out the form they provide and apply on the GSoC website or just filling the form would suffice ? The instructions were unclear
yes please
It should be the same or very similar so it is easy for the mentors to recognize which idea your proposal is for
No, it's not an automatic rejection. Some orgs have A LOT of people emailing them and they can't respond to everyone (or maybe anyone) so they are telling people what they want people to do as part of their proposal application in the Contributor Guidance section. That could require you to do a pull request or answer additional questions that you add into your proposal, etc.
If you are applying for GSOC you MUST submit your proposal through the GSOC site. there are no exceptions. You may decide to share your proposal with the org separately if they ask for that but you still must ALSO submit through the GSoC site. If you do not submit a proposal through the GSOC site before the April 8 1800UTC deadline you can not be accepted into the program.
Ah. I'm surprised some orgs don't have a general chat forum to answer multiple (similar) questions simultaneously because I'd imagine that'd be way more efficient for large orgs
As an example, rust org has a central chat where people can bring convos into DMs. I assumed a similar system would've been adopted in JAX/DeepMind
Every org does it's own thing. We give suggestions on what they should do, but it's up to them to decide what works for their org
Hello, My name is Mohammed Kamrujjaman Rabin and I want to apply for Google Summer of Code 2025. I will appreciate tips and suggestions how I can proceed.
I should apply idk why Iβm slacking rn
Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but when submitting the proposals, do we have to propose working on an idea from the idea list given, or come up with something completely new? Thanks!
You should write a proposal based on one of the project ideas from the Ideas list the org has provided.
your profile in the upper right corner
How can I rank my proposals?
look at your proposals and once you submit a second one it will let you rank them
Hi, can anybody guide me on how to submit a proposal? I have visited the website and it seems I am lost. I am particularly interested about the beginner level projects of Drughunter.
Please review the Contributor Guide it has a section of "Writing a Proposal" that will help you with your applications.
@can anybody help me to get started on contribution like how to choose the organisation and writing proposal
Hey, those who are already registered, they don't need to register again to become a contributor right?
You will need to create a new account to register for GSoC 2025. There is a βRegister to become a contributorβ button about halfway down the GSoC home page that you need to click on and start the registration process. Once you are registered you can review the 185 Mentoring Orgs and select the one that suits your interests and skills.
Please read carefully the Contributor Guide it contains great tips and tricks to apply and also a whole section of Writing your proposal that will help you increase your chances of being accepted.βΊοΈ π

If you have already participated in GSoC, you will need to use the same email that you used when registering in the past to log in at the top right corner where you see the "log in" symbol.
Yep, I'm logged in. And I did participate in GSoC last year.
hello, i am applying for gsoc for the first time. it is pretty overwhelming
hey, I want to submit a proposal for the Google Deepmind's Enhance Gemini Support in Open-Source Extensions (Continue.dev/Aider-like) project. I have a draft proposal ready and want to reach out to the team at Deepmind to get feedback on my proposals. how would I approach them?
For Deepmind you probably won't get your draft reviewed because there's just too many people interested in working on their projects
hmm so do I submit my proposal?
or anything else i can do to optimize my application?
Yes just submit it if you're happy with it I'd say
anyone know roughly how many people are accepted as contributors to GSoC each yr? I am wondering how competitive it is.
alr perfect thanks!
Follow their instructions they list on their ideas list.
I assume then that this applies to Jax/Keras also ?
@somber basalt I am encountering an 'Access Denied' error while trying to register as a GSoC 2025 contributor.
Hi. I am facing access denied issue for contributer registration
If you have already participated in GSoC, you will need to use the same email that you used when registering in the past to log in at the top right corner where you see the "log in" symbol.
Once you connect that email through the log in button, you can go to the Contributor (with a green check mark) in the upper right profile dropdown and you'll see the Mentoring Orgs button.
Click on that to find the org you want to submit the proposal to.
Then you'll see the 'Submit a proposal' button.
Submit your proposal (be sure the file doesn't contain anything but letters or numbers, no _, $, etc.)
If you are new to GSoC then go to g.co/gsoc and scroll to the middle of the page and click on the 'Register as a contributor' button
then you'll create your GSoC profile and then come back to the homepage and then click on the 'Browse all 2025 organizations' and look through their project ideas. When you are ready to submit a proposal there is a 'submit proposal' button available on each mentoring organization's page.
can anyone tell how to prepare the gsoc proposal
i am new to open source contibution
This is where our project will come if it gets accepted?
When you submit them ig
I have submitted a proposal.
Oh then yes
After my proposal gets accepted then this is the place where the projects shows up?
yes
If an organisation has more than one project, is it required to send different proposals for different projects or just one proposal mentioning about all the projects I am interested in?
Send different proposals for different projects.
Are you sure about this or anybody from
could confirm this?
Sure
hello guys i am new to GSOC and i was planning to submit a proposal to google's deepmind. And from the GSOC contributor's guide i read that it's better to talk to the org's community / mentors before you submit proposal so that you can get feedback on what to improve. Does anybody know if there is a separate discord server for this? or is there any other way to engage with the deepmind community?
Yes, that is correct
Deepmind has too many applicants to respond to people.
Is Deepmind responding to those who have submitted their proposal? Or not.
Hmm fair. So do u suggest i simply work on writing as good of a proposal to my knowledge or from online resources and then submit without communicating with anyone from their community? Is that ok?
Mam , I am participating in this year GSOC 2025 and new to this , but didn't get a reply from mentors , not only me but other participants in this project also didn't got reply . What to do mam ? Shall we submit a proposal in GSOC website and wait ?
i have found a org in which one of the mentor is taking payments from wanna be contributors to get selected in gsoc
Hey everyone! π
I submitted a PR two weeks ago, but itβs still pending review. Should I wait for it to get merged before writing my proposal, or should I go ahead and start drafting it now? Also, is there anything I can do to help move the review process forward? Thanks!
start writing your proposal when your PR processes you can edit your draft
what i think is the mentors of that org must have selected their pre contributors. It could be the reason for no response maybe selecting another org is better
Maybe but admins of that organization added us to the slack group and we are chatting with her but the mentors alone are doing problem
waste of time that is what i think i dont know about others
Sure I too had that thought , Let us see . Hope others working are going well
How others GSOC projects are going ?
We have record numbers for people registering and submitting GSoC proposals. At this point it may be difficult for orgs to respond to people. This is why it's so important to reach out early
Please do submit a report to gsoc-support@google.com mentioning the context and some valid proofs.
I'm interested to know if the current number of submitted proposals is significantly higher than last year around the same time?
this is so crazy now
i share a idea for proposal
maintainer rejects it lol
and i think of something new again
soo hard but fun tbh
Yes it is
Yes please email us details so it can be investigated
Good day everyone
It's my first time here and I am so happy
Please does anyone know how we can get in contact with the organization we want to apply to,the guides recommended it
Google Deepmind especially
Has anyone gotten back from the JAX/Keras org yet?
I have a doubt like how the number of slots for an org is calculated for a gsoc season by Google is there any specific criteria for that or just randomly it is given based on previous year slots ???
It;s based on what the org asks for, the budget Google has for # of contributors and the org's experience with GSoC in previous years. New orgs only get 1-2 slots.
Considering that DeepMind is technically 'new' but with so many people applying for them, do they only get 1-2 slots as well?
They get more than 2. Remember they are constrained by how many mentors they have available. So even though they have many hundreds of people applying to their org they won't be accepting a large number of contributors. Exact number I don't know.
Much appreciated Stephanie!
But will they be selecting contributors for each of the mentioned projects or not?
Please read carefully the Contributor Guide it contains great tips and tricks to apply and also a whole section of Writing your proposal that will help you increase your chances of being accepted.βΊοΈ π
@somber basalt Hi question here
suppose i have a org and i have like 2-3 ideas i would like to suggest thoo there is a limit of 3 proposal at max but it also says if u have good ideas u can share more
so i can share as many proposal as i want untill they are of a quality standard and i am just not spamming there proposal list right?
Remember suggesting your own idea is very unlikely to be selected as you likely don't know what the org needs and their priorities. If you want to be selected for GSOC you should work on one of the project ideas the org has created.
No you can only share 3 proposals. Some orgs will likely see people submitting a random idea as spam.
actully stuck here coz previously i was in talks with mentor regarding a idea
which has multiple issues on github as well but at the last moment he said he would be interested in the project but not as gsoc proposal
so i presented him with another idea which he said he would put on least priority for gsoc and then i gave him another idea and now waiting for his reply on it for further action
so i can provide 2 ideas to the org if they are interested
yaa actually seen a lot of orgs community channels filled with it , tbh mentors arnt much happy over it .
again submitting your ideas is not likely yo get you accepted into GSoC
yaa but trying my best with submiting best idea
orgs have specific priorities and things they are ready to mentor.
yep ig i got my answer
your idea could be interesting but they likely won't have a mentor to mentor it as their mentors are dedicated to the projects they have in the project Ideas list.
Is there anyone who took a proposal from owasp foundation?
How do we reach out to the specific organisations?
ohh , well thx for that tip
mail , forums there slack discord
a lot of places
websites sometimes
Alright lemme try
remember at this point the orgs/mentors are being slammed with inquiries from excited participants and may not be able to respond to you this late in the reg period. YOu should never wait to hear from a mentor or org before writing your proposal. Write the proposal and if they do get back to you in the next few days you can adjust the proposal
Thanks for the clarification
for some reason my application is not submitting
it keeps saying error do you guys know what i should do
π
email our support queue - but most likely it's an issue with your proposal. In order to submit your proposal, be sure:
You have no symbols (only letters and numbers) in the title of your proposal and in the title of your PDF file.
Ensure your description is at least 160 characters.
Be sure your project title isnβt super long
In your technologies and topics be sure you typed the word and then hit enter/return after each topic. (example: cloud computing (then hit return/enter) databases (click return/enter) -- you donβt want to have 15 words in one cell - they should be separate bubbles otherwise itβs confusing to the mentor reviewing it and not helpful for them to sort through things.
Be sure you have agreed to the 2025 Rules and Contributor agreement (if there are green checks next to both forms then you have successfully agreed to the terms).
I'm confused because all the issues for the project I'm interested in are already assigned to others. Should I still work on them, wait to get assigned, or just share my ideas about these issues in my proposal? I'm not sure what to do.
NOt sure what you mean by all of the issues are assigned to others. The Project Ideas are open for many people to apply to (most project ideas will have 2-5/10 or in some cases 40+ people apply to them depending on the popularity if the org and the idea.
Not really confirmable, since there have been past events where, out of (say) 6 projects, only 4 were considered (mostly depends on the strength of the proposals and priorities).
Thanks Neel for answering this
Thanks. So i can just pick an issue, work on it and give a pull request .If accepted can add in proposal.
No permission or wait to be assigned .
Hello, World!
Can I still contribute to Chromium? I just found out about Google Summer of Code a few days ago.
You can but the time is too low , contact the company by website and make sure to make the report as soon as possible
Is there a general acceptance rate for applicants?
Hello! I am new to GSoC and am hoping to receive early feedback on my proposal for contributing to Google DeepMind. Could you please advise me on how to get in touch with a mentor? Is submitting a proposal the only way to connect with mentors in GSoC? @cunning ice
This might be a dumb question to ask, but I couldn't find the GitHub repo or any link to explore the existing codebase for the SMART on FHIR frontend project listed under Data for the Common Good (D4CG) on the GSoC page. I'm really interested in the project and would love to take a look before working on my proposal. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
Μ£Please do not tag GSoC Admins to review personal cases in here, if you've read all the resources in the GSoC webapp and still cannot find the answer please send us an email: gsoc-support@google.com
You need to read their Project ideas in order to follow their process to participate in their project, also, at this point Orgs and mentors are really busy reviewing applications and talking with many others potential contributors, please be patient.
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more developers into open source software development.
You need to reach out via the contact methods for the Data Common for Good folks and talk to them, this group here can't help you with any individual project's questions.
Thank You for letting me know
Sorry for inconvenience and thank you for your reply.

Hi
Is it possible to register if I am junior software engineer working as full time ?
yes ofc
Thanks π
Hi all, I need projects that are about front-end development, any specific organizations that have such projects? Thanks in advance
that's research you need to do yourself. no one can help you find the right project for you.
hello I am new here, I have registered to GSOC recently and I am confused to choose which organization to contribute.
I have experience on frontend and web, looking if someone help me in guiding me.
You need to determine which org you want to work with. You can use the filters to filter by the programming language you know to narrow it down.
Hello guys, sorry to disturb you all... it's been quite a few moment that I've joined the community but I didn't really have time to dive into it. I want to become a member of the Google Devloper community, I'm interested in coding and contributing to open source but I don't really know how all of that works, how to contribute to the GSoC (I can no longer find the link :c).... can anyone explain what the GSoC is all about, how can we contribute to it nad how can it help us to become a better dev please
Sure , Just post what are all the doubts you have abt GSOC , we will all try to clarify it
Hey, I wanted to ask that in one of the project idea it is mentioned Complexity: Medium Expected Size: 175-350 hours. Is it up to the contributor to which ever size to chose or as the complexity is medium so it would be 175 hours. There is no way to contact with the mentors.
I remember that it's mentioned in their guide that you can only size down projects, not up. So if you want to be safe probably go Large and size down after discussing with your assigned mentor (and the org admin) later, if you get in
Can you please share the link.
Thanks
Complexity is medium (which means intermediate) In this case they don't mean the scope/size which is 175 or 350 hours
