so what if opponents and sponsors want someone to lose, and instead of just implanting thoughts or bad ideas they did something more, not harming contestants outright but making them just miss a shot, not be running when they should be, tiny things

I feel like the "CNS Publicity Stunts" are part of a class war type-beat; CNS's very very retro style (especially in the era The Finals takes place in,) makes me think of a wealth gap, where in this case technology, - and thus access to the world-wide-web - is so widespread that literally every home has at least an old computer to watch their favorite sport, but this is where The Finals becomes not about entertainment, and instead a distraction. CNS is a rebellion group, drawing attention away from the glitz and glamor of maps like Vegas, and using their retro imagery to drive a lower-class rebellion. The Finals is the wide-spread distraction, but CNS is turning it into the wide-spread news broadcast, attempting to get some kind of message out, likely about the divide of class in the world The Finals exists in.
This is likely reading way too deep, and again just based on surface level speculation. But it makes me think of stuff like the Hunger Games and other dystopian media where the lower/working class are pacified with some blood sport to obscure the gap between the upper class.

I feel like most of this is kinda obvious, but also the course CNS is taking with the ramp up in their "stunts" certainly feels like their end goal is a "system reboot".
