I introduce to everyone: The Pre-Arena Days inspired list of enemies. I say enemies because the description is more or less supposed to come from a CNS operative or ranking officer before they were CNS, and before, well- the Arena ever came to be. Meaning this was realspace warfare inspired by Cyperpunk and universes similar to it. Cyberware and advanced vehicles, equipment, weapons, and even corporate warfare weren't unheard of in these tumultuous times. Most nations no longer had standing armies, instead replaced by bloodthirsty mercenaries.

i’ve actually played around with the idea of the early game history. in my headcanon, the games were played in the
meatspace, and were an actual fight to the death. when multico formed, the game turned from a lawless and high risk arena battle to a sponsored, polished game show. the idea of physical death/combat was unappealing to test audiences, so multico hired cutting edge vr company volpe, security company vaiiya (who transitioned to cyberspace security), and the insurance giant holtow to cover any risks. many of the original meatspace contestants, due to a clause in their contract, were acquired by multico and transferred into digital consciousness’ (dede, odilla). the game evolved form there

It's less of a headcanon and more of an alternate history sort of thing. We know already that the sponsors are real world, meatspace corporations. So I sort of thought, what if before Multico had come around, it was sort of a war for control between the nations using the corporations to gain control over what little resources remain in the world. Sort of like a crossover between EFT, Cyberpunk, and BF2042. The general idea would be that many unstable nations handed over military contracts and expeditionary force proposals to rich companies that were central to their economy, and inevitably, the government as a whole (leading to things like the Brazilian Orbital Foundries of Brazil becoming the Habitats, and DISSUN running the entire power grid of Japan, and eventually running things worldwide.) While many other nations would collapse. Eastern European nations, African nations, South American nations, countries with limited independent resources simply disbanding and becoming what I like to refer to as "lost lands".
