you dont...just CHANGE th file type...if you're getting it from bandcamp or smt they usually have multiple types of files...going from the original to FLAC is considered a 'lossless' format, meaning no sound 'data' is lost in the conversion, giving you an accurate sound...

other formats, like mp3, are compressed in a way that you lose some of the sound, best way i can describe is it feels 'flatter', since the audio range isnt as good

it also depends on what youre using to listen, if it's like phone speakers it wont sound very good anyway
