Yep. Baldur's gate 3 is what the standard for AAA was back then. Now all you'll see is unfinished, hollow and cash grabs masked as AAA games. The goal is mostly to release within a specified quarter to meet investor goals (see: cyberpunk at launch)

I'm sure knowing some Japanese did help me catch on quicker, but the first thing you learn with Japanese is a ton of verb conjugation, while in Mandarin you're mostly free of that so it's super easy to grasp the basics

I also personally found reading and writing much easier in Mandarin because I used kana as a 'crutch' in Japanese, and in Chinese I was learning the hanzi along with the word itself

Oh the problem with my japanese is that I'm learning words on my own and have a vocab of around 800 words, but I have a weekly lesson with a private teacher who isn't really a teacher at all just a hungarian lady who is living out there in japan and can speak the language, so I learn some poorly explained grammar every two weeks and half of it is forgotten after a while
