I get the idea where you are coming from, some may not be sure about its definition and meaning, but it is still an useful tool in the creation of text. And since we're living in the times of the Internet, it would be a great thing to check that out now (by using your preferred Web-Search-Machine). The same applies to the dot and comma - although their use is more frequent and the meaning well-knowingly established.
I do not see any disrupting factors coming with the use of these helpful tools in our wonderful world of (written) languages. Please refrain from calling the ., , and the ; disruptive. Thank you.

I also have that as long as I can remember, for me it's coming less from the ears and more from inside the head. It's very weird to describe. I also experience visual snow, floaters and after-images, which recent research is suggesting that it might be linked together (to tinnitus) and an issue somewhere in the brain. Apparently it's a pretty rare though, so not much research has been done in the past, which is slowly changing now. Just saying that for anyone who might be facing the same and still wondering what's wrong.
