I've always had trouble with scenes involving more than two characters, regardless of style.

I've written short stories before with only one character and almost no dialogue.

I wonder if in that case, you could use the first style but go deeper into describing what exactly the character is doing. "He clutched his iron plank and removed it from its scabbard. " - What impression did this give? Did he do it slowly or quickly?

I'm not really a writer though, so you don't have to listen to me

To me, "dragged" implies a slow and lugging movement.

I'unno, I'm trying not to overkill it with descriptors. I have a long history of burning myself out by over-describing every little detail.

That is fair! I think you could mix it up - split for longer paragraphs, and keep it together for shorter ones, with short descriptions. That way you get to draw attention to the gestures you want to describe in detail.

Yeye, I gotchu, hombre. Lemme give you a specific example, though.

And as he spoke, torches along each wall were wisped into life, starting near him then traversing down the hall like the tumbling of dominos. The maroon carpet was littered with metal, each piece once belonging to a royal guard. However, occupying the darkened welds was a strange dust, almost ashen in nature. Had one been a fool, they could have very well assumed that the Wyvish protectors were blazed into remains, but the lone man knew that something much more foul had taken their lives.

This is from when Mr. Minotaur first enters the funny castle. In any story besides this one, I would have spent half a page describing every little detail about the hall, from the colors of the wood to how the columns were splintering apart.

But I figured that, since the narrator previously described the castle as being "curvature and thorns," the reader could assume that the whole thing was somewhat ramshackled together.

I'unno. I've spent all my life as a visual artist, so I often trip myself up on visual details and end up muddying the actual plot.
