Consoles were cheaper even performance accounted for. Also consoles performed better than similar level PC-s due to additional optimizations for console versions.

Not to forget that consoles were simple plug n play, while on pc you need to also tweak settings and perhaps some other things to get game running smoothly. Sometimes, even with similar specs you cannot get similar performance simply due to certain optimizations, like in Hogwarts Legacy, on PC you can go through all doors without loading screens, while on Switch you have loading screens before every major area change when going through a door
