Sites like Garland Tools tries to give you all possible avenues to acquiring things. So, sometimes an item will say that it's available from a vendor, but at the same time, you can either gather it or craft it. For example, Iron Ingots can be bought from some select vendors or you can gather iron ore and craft them yourself. Also, the iron ore can also be purchased from many vendors.
There are other items like that
Also, some vendors don't accept gil and you have to use alternative currencies to buy their wares

unless you need that item HQ for some reason it's usually more efficient to just buy them from vendors if it's a gil vendor
but certain items like silver ore need some weird currency for trade in, yea
at which point you're better off gathering

oh i guess on teamcraft the category is still 'vendor' for trash items but the row includes the gathering information, to clarify a bit. i think it just prioritizes putting it in as vendor if it's something easy like gil.
@bright plinth also check if any of the pre-craft items can be bought from vendors, sometimes that saves you a couple of ARR/HW gathering mats
actually nevermind 🤔 looks like they're smart about precrafts too and put vendorable shit under vendor
so yeah just tick off as many items as you can from vendor, and what's leftover is what you actually need to gather
