There's a lot of open-ended stuff you can do if it strike your fancy. Minion-collecting, shared fates, high-end content, glamour-collecting for outfits, alternate class leveling. The game has a really strong RP community if that's your thing, and won't ever really get in your face too badly if it's not and you stay out of Limsa.

It's not necessary for you to install ACT, and for extremes it doesn't matter, but for savage and above you will be parsed and that's not a bad thing
It's the only tool for getting an accurate reading of how well you are performing, and seeing where you need to improve.

note that you can't crossbreed with flowerpots, so you'll have to obtain the seed itself elsewhere
but if you do somehow have an onion seed you can cultivate it in that
