cyclops onions are hidden items, so they're either rng to appear on the nodes or you need to use one of your skills that forces it to appear
so ultimately easier to just go to each node in the area it spawns in and open the gathering spot, if it appears gather them

No. The LS I'm in are ones with people that I know from outside of the game, mostly.
The friends I've made in game have all been from PF groups for EX farms or Savage fun parties (not clear parties) where we used voice chat.
Ultimately, making friends in the game is very similar to making friends in real life. You have to be likeable
The biggest difference is that you actually have to talk, or else nobody will notice you at all.

Get one combat (whatever you have leveled, as retainers can’t surpass your own level in a class) and one either BTN or MIN
All combat retainers gather from the same item pool, there’s no difference between them in that regard
