Retainer Guide

What is a retainer?
A retainer is a private NPC that will act as a personal bank for the player, holding up to 175 different items, that can be summoned to any of the Summoning Bells around the world. Retainers also act as your means to sell on the Market Board.

How to unlock a retainer
First, you must complete the quest The Scions of the Seventh Dawn then go to speak to any of the Retainer Vocates located in the market district of any of the major cities.

What are Retainer Ventures?
Ventures are the means to send out your retainers on missions to bring back items for you and can be unlocked by completing the quest 'An Ill-conceived Venture' (Ul’Dahn), (Gridania), (Limsa Lominsa)

undersize with level 80 jobs makes it pretty easy to get most non-raid gear back

How to do Group Instances by Yourself or Without Enough People

In your duty finder window select the ⚙️ icon on the top left to open up the duty finder settings window.
Inside that window select the setting undersized party before confirming and entering the instances of your choice. NOTE: UNSYNC-ING AN INSTANCE WILL FORFEIT ALL OF YOUR EXP AND COMPLETION REWARDS. Poetics from a first time completion bonus and loots chests remain the same and will not be lost. You may not queue for daily roulettes using this method.

Thanks - just did some lookup and calculation. It seems kingcake still has a good gil-seal ratio but so far based on the marketboard price - Aqueous Whetstone has the best ratio.

yeah, that will autotarget the 2nd person in your party which, at default settings and 8+ man content, is the second tank

also in general its better to put the /merror and /micon at the very bottom

since macros are read line-by-line or something like that

guildhest is a type of daily but one that barely anyone queues for and gives almost no return, i wouldnt suggest it. the best dailies for exp are: MSQ, Alliance Raid, and Leveling.

Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences. This also means population on a given server is quite meaningless.

'What is Glamour and how do I unlock it?'

Glamour is the process of changing an equipment's look into a different item with the use of Glamour Prisms. You can unlock the ability to glamour by doing the level 15 quests 'If I Had a Glamour' in Vesper Bay, West Thanalan. Although not required, you can unlock the ability to dye gear with the nearby quest 'Color Your World'. You can get the Orange Juice needed by talking to the nearby Merchant & Mender. Items used for glamouring are not lost upon use.

'How do I glamour? Where do I get more Prisms?'

Glamouring is done by right-clicking (Square or X on controllers) on the equipment you want to glamour and choosing the option 'Cast Glamour'. After clicking this you choose the item you want the appearance on the right half of the menu that opened up. You can get more Glamour Prisms by either crafting them after completing the quest 'Absolutely Glamourous', buying them from your Grand Company Quartermaster, or buying them from the marketboard.

What do all these quest icons mean?

- These are how you reach the endgame and every other bit of content is locked behind it to some extent. MANDATORY
- These unlock a feature, instanced content, job actions, or a thing that is important for you to have. Do the ones related to your job/class and ones that unlock new content
- These usually have very little exp/gil as reward and are usually just part of the world/lore expansion. Mostly optional unless you are interested in doing them for the fluff
- These are quests you can do more than once, how often you can repeat it is up to the individual quest.

Latest expansion is amazing

Everyone will tell you the start of the game is slow/bad. So fight ur way to the first expansion and try that out before you decide to quit.
