Which world should I pick?

You can play on any world on any datacenter within FFXIV. Aside from the languages spoken, the physical location of the servers, and the status of each world, there are no major differences. This also means population on a given server is quite meaningless.

The majority of content is cross-world, with the exception of Free Companies, Linkshells, and restrictions when visiting other worlds.

If you don't mind where you play, choose a world that is Preferred or New for character creation bonuses. Check world status by using !status <world name> or via the Lodestone. For information about the status types, use !faq worldtype.

But stuff I play, like Overwatch, TF2, Rainbow Six Siege all feel like they will never get an ending for the main story arc.
The story will just last on forever until the IP is abandoned.

There's this thing where companies are constantly wanting to hook players with a new arc for each expansion, but there's never a sense of an overall plan leading to a natural ending. So it comes across as patchwork. FF14, while the details obviously are worked on in each individual expansion, has (since Yoshi P took over) always had a long term goal in mind, story-wise.

yeah you have 2 solutions : you buy everything now on steam and you go for it, or you manage to switch on sqex account and you won't have any problem buying the rest even if you're in a different country

this is true but i have only heard of bans happening / restrictions when attempting to access games early. this also makes it to where you cannot use the store until you make a purchase with a card registered to said country.

TLDR; steam is horrible.
