You need base game (ARR+HW) and Shadowbringers (SB+ShB) to get everything. Or a Complete Edition, which includes everything.
Note that in the autumn, they'll release a new expansion that'll be pretty pricey. So depending on where you are right now, you might want to stay trial or only buy the base game.

Yeah I recommend staying trial or only buying base. Base now includes HW, so it's a lot of main story depending on your pace, plus all side content accessible to you like the entire gold saucer or the firmament.
The restrictions of the trial is lessened social abilities, a lower cap on Gil, and no retainers.
When EW launches, then it'll be base game (ARR+HW) and EW (SB+ShB+EW) to own everything.

Hi, so I had just started to do the game and keep doing MSQs and class quest line (lancer) and combat feels very bland and not much fun to be honest. So I did some research and general consensus seems to be as the story develops and I level up combat becomes much much much more better. My question is it a gradual thing? Oh thats a good feature 😄 It just I played WoW for almost a decade and after a certain point each lore fragment becomes important so even if it's a side quest at an area farther from main story you want to do that because some part of that quest may have ties to main lore parts. XIV has a different approach to "important" lore. Anything truly important is included in the MSQ, so there's a lot less "you have to read this comic and these books and do these seemingly irrelevant side quests in Winterspring" kind of things in order to understand the plot.
For XIV, the plot is the plot, and everything else is just local worldbuilding.

Anyone with that icon next to their name is a mentor, however we advise that you take in-game mentor advice with a grain of salt.
The Novice Network can be good, but is more likely to give confusing or just straight up bad information.
We can answer questions here, and tend to have a much better quality of response.
Because we actually police each other effectively.

Otherwise, with no linkshells, no FC, being new can be quite estranging.

mentor's aren't often people who'll guide you every step of the way, normally it's just questions and answers and if you ask, possibly helping you out if you need dungeon
