Each game handles expansions differently. This one simply adds more linear progression. The story is one continuous chain and each expansion makes that story longer while adding a huge amount of side content to do.

If you mean difficulty it's a little complicated because how trials work has changed over time
Ifrit, Garuda, Titan have normal mode, hard mode (still easy), and extreme (hard), after those generally trials just have the base difficulty fight and the extreme version. Some trials don't get extreme versions such as Cape Westwind or ||Steps of Faith|| and stuff

That chat message is for the party finder, and it says they meet your requirements because you didn’t set a filter to the party finder to hide/show specific stuff
It has nothing to do with your queue in the duty finder

F.e Malboro has daily hunt trains at the same time every day

Hunt trains is basically when one or more people scout out all A-ranks in a given expansion and put them in a list. Then at a specific time, they spread the word via linkshells, FC chats and NN that the train is starting. People assemble and move from one A-rank to the next

The armor technically counts as high-quality so it’s okay as starting stuff, but the weapon is plain normal-quality so you’ll want to replace it ASAP with something like Ironworks
