There are ranks for each zone in ShB. The first rank up requires six golds from fate completions. The last rank up requires 60 golds. In other words 66 per zone. Each zone has a gemstone trader who accepts the new currency that fates give you and ranking up in a zone expands their inventory. It can be worthwhile to get at least the first rank up for each zone as that lets you buy a mount speed increase for that respective zone.

Oh also the primary reason for maxing the shared fate ranks is that it opens up additional vendors in the two hub cities, each with their own exclusives. Their inventory ranges from crafting materials, combat materia, music scrolls, minions, or even some pieces of furniture
