if you have bis 5.1 im pretty sure it's literally impossible to get better gear now unless you either do eden normal (and even then it's +10 ilv) or buy weekly tomestone gear. Both of which are timegated anyway

E1-4 or E5-8?
E1-4 is pretty trivial if your group can handle moving out of things.
E5-8 has been a little harder, but it's still only day 2 of the patch.
I'd say it feels about on-par with the difficulty of the Sigmascape fights right now, but that feeling of difficulty will likely decrease somewhat as people become more familiar with how the fights work.

first of all, gear in level 60 content gets synced to ilvl 270 even though Gordias was designed for 180-ish, Midas for 210-ish and Creator for 240-ish
second of all, back in heavensward we had about the same number of skills at 60 that we do now at 80
and most jobs were a lot harder to play, with much more complicated mechanics

so, when you go to meld materia, you see visible slots, mostly you'll see 1-2 visible slots, yes? For these, you can meld with NPC melder or manually, and you can meld whatever to them with 100% success rate.
For gear like tome gear/savage gear, on the item popup it has the line "advanced materia melding forbidden", meaning you cannot meld past these visible slots. On crafted gear, however, this line is not present. Having crafters leveled (or using the services of someone who has) you can meld past these visible slots, to a maximum of five slots. Each meld past the visible ones has a low chance of success (and on failure, it breaks the materia you try to put in it).
Each successive overmeld has a lower chance of succeeding, higher grade materia has a lower chance of succeeding than higher grade materia. And there's restrictions, like you can't overmeld grade 6 or grade 8 past the first overmeld slot, you have to meld some other materia in the following overmeld slots. And it's still subject to the same rules for materia grade vs level of gear allowed
for FFXIV speedruns, the stuff with the most merit is on fflogs, for clearing endgame content as fast as possible. Past this, I only really know of SRC for various dungeon speedruns and such

I just made it to Second Lieutenant yesterday (and unlocked the hunt for allied seals). I've wanted to change GCs for a long time and would like to go ahead and do it, but will changing GCs mean I have to unlock the hunt again? Or can I keep hunting and farming allied seals even after I switch?

@leaden ginkgo At 70 just head into the MSQ. With doing the dungeons, you should only end up hitting walls at like, 76/77 and 79/80, which can be overcome by running your max level dungeons one or two more times.
