i have a space on another desk for my laptops lol
i used to just keep them under my pc on the stand but that proved to be a giant pain in the ass
but having 2 desks is cheating so
and that's the 34" that comes with the C shaped stand? XD
yay
Like I said, utilitarian as fuck
Ew.
I have a set of edifers and a hd6xx
oh yea I rarely see actually stylish on /r/battlestations though
that one's just minimal
i've seen it in /r/macsetups from time to time
I refuse to browse macsetups
compared to /r/battlestations: better desk/workspace variety, worse hardware variety
Also an item on their desk is worth like
My entire set up alone
I do want one thing for my desk
But idk where to find one
I want one of those old flip radio clocks
But holy shit
Sarah did you build my pc yet
lol here's an example
the desk costs more than most /r/battlestations posts
($3800 with the monitor shelf)
but they don't have any neat sound hardware at all, so there's that
most mac setups aren't all that crazy though. most are probably cheaper than your average /r/battlestations setup
i would say copious amounts of thrift shop/goodwill searching will get ya one
some goodwills here have a larger electronics section than others
at those, finding an alarm clock like that would probably only take a few visits
Not in canada
Building yet another pc
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/9WjH8r
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, GeForce RTX 3070, Cooler Master MasterBox NR200P Mini ITX Desktop

do mine first ; ;
Come to Canada
tHE SWIMMING OR THE BUILDING?...
I'll build it
Swim to Canada and get some poutine
Gaining more weight than you lost, solid plan.
Is there a solid mmo mouse you guys could recommend for ffxiv?
Hopefully under $100
razer naga
another decent one that i personally prefer is the corsair scimitar just because the buttons are textures and i've had bad luck with razer/heard mixed things although it'll all depend on you
From what I've read it's between the razer Naga and the g600
go logitech if those are your options
Naga got something bad about it?
razer quality control is dogshit
id argue logitech's is as well as their warranty department are absolute scam artists

but you know, your mileage may vary
^
i dont touch either of them, after a company burns me i move on to another
i've heard personally a lot more complaints on razer over the years vs logitech atleast but it all varies
How's the corsair hold up.
pretty decent although with most mice the plastics wear over time which is why i like the textured buttons
my brother uses it regularly still 🙏
-scrolls up-
I've had logitech and now razer lol 😄 never owned a corsair mouse
logitech used to have amazing CS and would just send you new replacements if your old stuff broke
I think both their quality and CS have been coasting real hard the last 5 or 10 years
kinda like apple was back in 2018 or so
at the height of the butterfly keyboard BS
naaais
CHRIST
thats like a whole student loan
Why would anyone want that many
let alone for a wall taht wouldnt be a backdrop
pulled a sarah and nicked my thumb with my sharpest knife 😔
👍
Regarding the talk with Logitech
I think it very much depends on the model u buy
I still have my mx518
Which succeded my G400S that lasted... 5 years?
But havin tried some of their headphones
I think they should just stick with Mouse and keyboards
Maybe I picked a bad pair, but it looked so gamer-y
hehe
i like their mice and that's about it
and if it lasts more than 3 years that's good enough for me
Does anyone here have experience with 3D modelling and animation?
I wanna pick their brains on the impact of CPU, GPU and RAM on subjective stuff
like, load times, performance in general and sims
blender has a database containing info on stuff like render times
but i want to know about other stuff
Probably better off visiting an actual gamedev discord for that
: P for 3D stuff gpu impact is pretty heavy.
For 2D animation, blender, sims etc pretty much cpu
Is there a suggested CPU for 3D work? like gotta be a i9 or smthng like that?
what features should I look out for, in particular
if i'm using blender
any suggested RAM amount? and don't say "the more the better"
More cores the better and more cache the better and lots of ram
If you are just learning 32gb is probably acceptable. If you are getting more serious, 64gb. Very serious as a consistent hobby? More is more. 128gb+
AMD excels on that front since they like pushing more total cores than Intel most of the time.
i was wonderin if blender would benefit from a stronger single core or multiple cores
AMD has me... a bit worried
The CPUs are always solid, it's just the GPUs that have been sus for awhile now
Dunno if upcoming Intel or AMD will be better since they are approaching from different angles.
Supposedly AMD 7000 series will be 16c32t whereas Intel is going with the P/E core split for 8+16c32t
And the promise of really crazy amounts of cache on the AMD with the 3d vcache
: P my 3900x does fine for the fluid sims I have to do for school
And I've done plenty of physics sims in blender and other programs
Although my 3060ti does some of that work too
blender has tile based rendering, which splits parts of the render into individual sections (tiles) and sends them to a single CPU core each, so does extremely well on a high core count CPU,
this is why AMD CPUs have been very sought after for rendering work since Zen1 came out
while Intel has caught up to AMD in terms of performance (5960x vs a i9 12900k) where intel loses, is efficiency, the intel chews through double the power vs the AMD
so you will pay more on the power bill, AND possibly need to buy a chunkier power supply to handle it
don't let hank hear you say that
Yeah I'm mildly concerned about if I get the 13900K and I have a 3080, will the 850 still be good or should I jump to 1000w. Especially if upcoming GPUs are supposedly going to be power monsters
i like sitting at 50% util at peak so i sized to a 1300
if I had to guess I only pull 500w at most under max (normal) scenarios so the 850 would still be fine
I don't think that would even fit in my current case. I barely get the modular cables into place with the 850 as it is
I should really do it with the bent needlenose pliers from now on
i don't have a photo but i think the 1300 and 850 seasonics i have are same size
yea that saddens me
if the new cpus run hotter than my 9700k i'm going to have to get a new case
6.7 x 6 x 3.4 inches TX850
5.91 x 6.69 x 3.39 inches 1300PD
because this one already gets louder than I would like 😦
the corsair ones that are 1 kW are super long for some reason
hx1200 is a good 2 inches longer than my 1300w somehow
i went from a 750 g3 to an rm1000x and the size difference wasn't really noticeable
ok yea that I can believe
6.6 vs 8
6.9
oh on that note do you have a tray that slides out, that was a good 100% of my problems with every other case
these days I can connect the cables with psu half in then seat it

7.2 hemi v8 variable timed hellcat something or other v10 power stroke
lend me a cool $10,000 and I can put a supercharger on mine
Fuckin coupler on the main cool water supply broke and all my cook shells had cooling shells at 210 degrees

Just glad no cans exploded inside
I’d be like “nope I’m finding another job cya”
@odd sand o yea baby look at that chonky 12vhpwr
carry around an extra big spray bottle
spray your overheating problems not me
inb4 breaks again with your 3 out of 10 quality repair

Ye, but Sarah, you know I have a bit of PTSD with AMD now. But maybe dealin with them directly would be a better experience i guess
Wdym by sus? Just harder to get or?
AH. I see. But if I also wanna do fluid sims, i'll need powerful single cores right?
DDR5 is still a meme/pie in the sky ye?
Or is it just that my local sellers wanna clear their ddr 4 stock?
I don't consider ddr5 ready for prime time yet (decent latency 32gb kit is 400 buckazoids)
Ye
I was just..checkin prices
It was..
Ridiculous
Like, it costs HOW much for 32GB?!
gotta see if nextgen splits support again or if they go ddr5 only
5600Mhz too
RGB was another 10% more or smthn
I flinched at the prices for some pc parts
ye I wanna go 64 or 128 but not for $2000
you can afford the big rgb panel wall
Bold of u to assume i can afford it
god gave you two kidneys for this moment
Not sure tbh, depends on how well it works with multithreading I guess
tray that slides out? 😮
i would expect the O11 is the easiest to deal with power supplies
well not really a tray.. but rear loading instead of from inside the case
that tray is a fan filter?
terrible photo that's just the dust filter yea
that doesn't look like the psu comes out the rear
the plate for the psu you take off and put the psu in, then use the screws
yikes
on mine the psu just goes in sideways lol
from my pic before 😄
that vertical support thing is removable too
I just never bothered because I didn't need to
yea this is all reminding me why having a dual chamber like the o11d is really nice
you just bought from a shitty laptop vendor, dont blame the chipset lol
pc building on easy mode
i wonder how fast I could throw together something in an o11d lol
oops I actually think the C had it but not the 4000d its still internal load tf
someone at work bought a 7000d for a project
i was pleasantly surprised how nice that case is
?
had a meshify c before, wouldn't fit a strix 3090
oh yea those corsair cases are nice
they're not really cheap
oh actuallym, 104 for a 4000d
how's the quality on it?
on the 7000d the door felt really substantial and was on hinges, I was surprised
good but has some cheap bullshit
can you take the drive bays in front of the psu out?
fewer 2.5in cages, the front panel only has 1 usbA
that seems like it'd be the biggest obstacle to the psu
yea you can do that and slide it forward a little bit
i'm amazed they did that when they know how big their own PSUs are lmao
meh, hard to ask for much for something that is currently on sale for $95
+All panels or dust filters are easy to remove and reattach as needed. The system to attach the side panels is particularly nice as they won't fall off if the screws are not tightened. +Interior has plenty of room for nearly any setup. The cable routing system is very simple and having the ties pre-installed makes it even more of a breeze. Cuts for cable routing are thoughtfully placed for minimal visibility and ease of use. +Two cuts are made in the PSU shroud for light strip cable routing at the bottom of the case. Great attention to detail. +You can move the HDD cage closer to the front if you need more clearance for the PSU/cables. +Price is pretty good, though keep in mind its limited front-panel USB and stock fans.
that was the pluses I put on my review last year
i'm still miffed about how janky the fractal focus case i bought my brother was
that said, $50 mid tower
my hopes weren't terribly high for $50
and frankly even then, it was overpriced. ,and I think i paid 65 for it.
the metal was seriously flimsy
one annoyance is that the front panel shroud for cables is really hard to fit the strimer into, if you take it off the case is ugly as shit
leave it on and you get like 1 inch of strimer visible
the 5000d has 2 USBA and the 7000D has 4 on same header cable tho so if u care about that
they filled in a big blank space in my case beautifully
and for the $$ I definitely didn't feel ripped off, they're really nice pieces of kit
but I don't understand how they are so popular
especially in builds where as you point out, if you route your cables as intended, you'll barely have any visible
I've seen a few builds where someone had a GPU like 1" above the bottom of their case
they ran the strimer cables straight down, so you saw like.. half an inch of the RGB
and the rest was laying against the bottom of the case
yea had I known i had zero clearance I'd have not got one
luckily my case has jack shit for cable management
so I had a lot of freedom on how to run them
also one sad victim of rgb becoming very popular
was nobody tries doing accent colors anymore
just all-white or white/black
thats what ur gundam mobos or eva are for!
i prefer all black over how it used to be
at a certain price point u got a poo brown PCB
ultra high end was black.. mid end was blue.. maybe red
there was a while where high end was blue
DFI LANPARTY
oh yea I think around teh x58 days blue as pretty common between gigabyte and asus
then asus started doing that sabertooth shit, and gigabyte had the G1 SNIPER GAMER ASSAULT MOTHERBOARD
I do remember some oef these having uv reactive plastic
haha old asus boards were 'gold'
i still like the designaire boards gigabyte made
YES
those were pretty
the a7n8x. at the time everyone was like BUY ASUS NOTHING ELSE
friend asked for parts recommendations
i parroted that stupid board
his was a lemon
someone should try bringing back green mobos
it's funny how in the grand scheme of history, green mobos .. were not all that popular
most of the 286/386/486 era stuff that I remember was that gold color above
there were some companies that made green boards during the p1/p2/p3 era, and by p4 everyone was doing blue
almost all of the ancient hardware I touch are gold PCB so I wonder if that was just the easiest thing to fab
and then there's like new school green and old school green
yea old green PCBs are like, also tinged yellowish?
or just different shades entirely not the stereotypical ever..green
OH
msi red
I completely forgot about those
msi made red motherboards
those are probably by far the rarest
mm yeah baby nice and red too
yea there were red radeons but i don't believe those were terribly common either
all of the radeons I had were blue
haha i totally forgot about the red pcbs
those tabs
it's probably because the tabs have no layers inside
usually there'd be a layer of something right underneath the top layer and that makes it look darker
i wanna say all the factory ATI cards were red pcb tho
fair enough, but it was still extremely rare to get a red motherboard
at least up until the 5000
there was also purple
ECS amde a few purple boards
i think they were trying to get in on the gamer action
but ecs always had a bad rep hahah
that one you're pointing at is an amiga board
those are custom small quantity things
i'd buy something with a purple pcb
amiga revivals are so weird
in the 2000s someone tried to do a powerpc revival
i think they gave up on that and went back to making replicas of the original
yea I see nothing newer than the days when nv400 was a chipset lmao
EW
POOP BROWN
hehe, soyo dragon. there's a name i haven't heard in forever
Is that your selfie
idk if that's the one, but someone made a shiny silver board at some point
i am generic fantasy dude wearing a helmet who may or may not be from.. what's that game..
titan quest?
I remember that game
I also blame @deep sapphire for brain washing me on AMD
i should pick a new avatar but i like my avatar so whatever
God. Remember when old pc components had a 3D waifu on the cover
or gorey ass monsters
chinese brands are bringing it back gobbless'em
3d department we need the worst rendition of an alien you can make, yesterday
what do they say
gesture? yeah that blue fucker on the sapphire x1950 has no gesture
bro what
ASYLUM
tbh I don't hate it
but that's some straight translated chinese right there
WISE FAN
IT'S SILENT IN MAH SWAMP
ok, so ATI had the ruby girl
hmm
no nvidia female mascot
oh wow. AMD also had a anime mascot for JP
They had some but i dont think they had the mascot
There was like, a mermaid, and a couple others they used for demo
unfortunate these are zotac
the designs are pretty uninspired though. like those 0 effort shirts where it's just a rectangle graphic printed on a plain white/black tee
Aren't their pictures going to be upside down after mounting the card?
Asus car gpu my beloved
154 frames per mile
My card has 2 8 pins, Should i use 1 or 2 of these, one wire has 2 pci-e
2 cables, daisy chaining can cause problems sometimes
Alright Thx
Yeah you can use a 2 headed cable and leave one of the 2 connectors dangling
It’s fine
It looks annoying but it’s fine
yeah 😔
Lmao the guy I bought my truck from put some junkyard drive shaft on it and the shop can’t find a replacement u joint for it, on top of that he said the vibrations were causing a tail house leak that was pretty good so that’s nice
Hopefully I didn’t burn up any clutch packs in the transmission
Can’t wait for a nice 1200 dollar bill
😒
its okay though my card barely draws 200w
do what you wish, it was just a suggestion to avoid problems smh

lmao
do not laugh at me :(
yeah, that's covered by the cable and pcie slot smh

rawr i forgot one thing last night when we were talking about logitech vs razer
the logitech models that have a free spinning wheel use an optical rotary encoder
i loved that wheel on my mx master
more fun than any game
also i let my mouse install drivers and
at least in my experience with razer so far, the viper ultimate I have just uses a regular mechanical encoder
I love the fact that this isnt a case of duplicate processes, rather completely different processes entirely
yeah...
Why does the mouse need like
the mouse does save settings to itself so i could uninstall them now but still
8 proceses
7 are for rgb
what the fuck?
i'm joking, but probably
anyway i turned the lighting off after amusing myself with the sound activated setting
yea I never installed the razer crap
but there's a downside to this
every time i unplug/plug in the dock or the dongle
it pops open the installer for razer's software lol
if i do a clean windows install it prompts a driver install lol
...
Is it fetching from the net or is it preloaded on the dongle?
I wonder if you could theoretically purge it from the dongle
net
Love it.
I never had issues with windows update service
real helpful windows. but ofc i just dl them prior to wipe now and install before i plug net back in
but nvidia and shit I always get their update directly
not like this amd bros...

Fuckin Amazon I ordered 2 SAE socket holders they send me metric then want me to return them and wait a week for a replacement
Lmao you just can’t catch a break
You ever get the toolchest?
Bummer Majoris 😦
Wednesday
Lol tfw it’s 2pm and you haven’t started the work you wanted to do first thing
I just can’t win with delivery drives hell I ordered pizza earlier and they wrote my address down wrong

It’s not surprising they mixed up metric and sae though
I wouldn’t be surprised if they just grabbed whatever lol
Yeah but what makes it even worse is it wasn’t even the right color I ordered red they gave me black

Oh well they refunded me I’ll just order it again
I rarely use metric sockets but fuck it I’ll use them
Fanhub ⚫ 🟠
Mfw they send me metric
Wtf is that an external floppy drive
Rip
They must've thought you were canadian
No I need my 1 3/8ths socket okay
Looks like case fan and the fan control module
Bc every brand needs their own control module to stuff behind the motherboard
Arctic Cooling
: P my case had no fans
For the past
God knows how long
Lmfao
It's time to fix it
The question is who you bought it from on amazon
Cuz Amazon really just handles shipping
HOW DO YOU FUCK UP THIS BAD, THE STICKER IS NOT THE SAME DRIVE OR UNIT
Lmao
They don't look, they don't have time to look. They just go to the bucket they're told to grab from. Now if you're unlucky the bucket is mislabeled and asking for another will be another Metric
Was really confused when I saw the box cuz it was huge
And I was like "did I buy an industrial size rice cooker or something"
Amazon pickers have like 15 secs per item or something silly like that
I returned one of the rice cookers
I get that but I don’t have a lot of free time either and my tool drawer for my sockets is a mess. Finding any good socket holders from big box stores is a headache
I just hate shopping let’s go with that
I'm wondering if I should buy the watercooling components now, like on Prime Day or something or wait for closer to fall. I'm afraid there will be a run on that stuff later when the new CPUs drop
I suppose I could email them to confirm the CPU waterblock will work for Raptor Lake
https://twitter.com/GamersNexus/status/1546604470662037504 this is not the tech news I expected to wake up to today
also WD SN850s getting the PlayStation branding
Does that really have a blue led…
Also do heatsinks even fit the ps5??? I could’ve swore it had an integrated one with the shell
yes
and yes
exactly
What a waste smh
which is why I buy the naked version and get a non-RGB heatsink
Yeah
So you can pay 30% less* for the same non-branded one?
Heatsinks work in the PS5 as long as they are thin ones like 3mm thick. If you get those wacky 15mm thick then no
just cut a hole in the shell

haha WTF
I finally gave in and bought that cablematters displayport kvm
and they had the kvm itself for $125 or a bundle with a couple usb-c dongles for $117*
in my invoice the bundle is actually the separate items
and they shipped them separately, too!
Amazon prime day is tomorrow and i've been thinking about getting an actual pc monitor. What specs should I look for?
what gpu do you have?
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB
look for a 1440p 144hz ips monitor also keep in mind ports on your gpu/the monitor if you have multiple displays
Pepega my computer has cooling again
finally
Putting in a new aio soon
nice

Featuring custom gaming control, fast 144Hz refresh rates and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible with AMD FreeS...
monitor naming is so shit
https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GP850-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Adjustable/dp/B093MTSTKD/ref=sr_1_3_mod_primary_new?crid=5GS2EMQCWO28&keywords=lg+27gp850-b&qid=1657586482&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=lg+27gp850-b%2Caps%2C54&sr=8-3 get this one if it goes on sale for even more for prime day, it's one of the better monitors that you can get 🙏
I think mine is just the newer version
yeah but the older version of it or atleast the non b maybe was the shit one
monitor naming is ass so i don't recall
I read something about a production issue where they needed to change factory/country
yeah i'm pretty sure that's why my monitor originally got delayed since it uses an LG panel
i mean tv speakers usually sound pretty eh, so it probably will
i personally like some of creatives stuff, currently using their x3 dac/amp still and it's pretty good
i personally would go for the stage 360 just because of dolby atmos but it can't be that bad hopefully
but it's sadly 100 pound extra
there's a code to get the V2 for £75 too
damn so yeah, probably won't get anything better for that price in terms of soundbar
fuck it let's give it a shot, paypal free returns anyway
should be okay 🙏

✅
any recommendations for a good mmo mouse?
#technology-discussion message there aren't too many out there really but this will give you an idea based on what was asked earlier
if you want to "fancier" you also have the steelseries aerox 9 which is wireless but it's newer and has the hole shell if that matters and more expensive
are all of them customizable, can i use shift + the mouse buttons
umm i actually have no idea on that one
@sly elk any idea?
i imagine you can but never thought to try lol
i would like to minimize the button load on my keyboard cause i use a laptop
that is why i need it to be customizable

if your house was built after the 80s building code requires GFI outlets in all bathrooms and water sources
its literally illegal to have a house built without GFI outlets near any water source, that includes kitchen sinks, utility sinks, bathrooms etc.
If it doesn't have the little Reset test button on it its not GFCI
Like this, or some have a test and reset button
iirc the code is that you have to have one
but not all of them have to be
mm nvm
Class A GFCI outlets must be installed on all receptacles within 1.5 meters of a sink, tub or shower stall
lol
oh no nvm im right
if the receptacle is downstream of a GFCI its alright
But generally that one itself has to be GFCI
because its the closest to the sink
There's a GFCI on the end of my island and it trips randomly even with nothing connected to it
Sometimes it will go 1-2 weeks, other times it trips 2-3x in one day
As I said, nothing is connected to them unless the insinkerator counts
lmfao nothing OFFICIALLY is connected
those are called GFI not GFCI
but they can be used interchangeably
iirc
My parents got a whole home surge protection installed when they got a new main breaker box to the house a few years ago
Im not a liscenced electrician however, just a dumb ass who does home stuff
technically they did it right
technially
Was built in 72 so was like 45yo when they did it
I guess it works shinon
Friends in Monterey when they got theirs rewired the breaker box was from like the 50s and no GFCI in the entire house lol
lmfao
The circuit was like ... 12A? for the kitchen? something stupidly low
I was trying to figure out why my friends pc kept shutting off
and the socket in their room was tied to a gfci in the washroom below
They had to run an extension cord for their kettle or it would trip the breaker
ugh
As I said, eventually they dropped a few grand to get the kitchen and bathroom rewired and added a 240V to the garage for their EV
There was a sink in the closet of the master bedroom
It wasnt even a walkin closet, it was only like 3ft deep
have fun reseting everything all day
Sounds like my ducking house
There’s two panels
And only the newer circuits have grounded outlets
I just scolded the landlord into replacing 2 because they were ducking burned
Can’t wait to get a better place haha

I fucking knew it
it was an Artesian story
Prime day soon
what is this, anyway?
Starts at midnight my time but there are some deals already
Unless uk prime day is different
it was midnight 5hrs ago
Why’d you ping me about it lol
Ah then yeah uk prime day is different lol
gonna buy 2 more logitech g203, they're like 40% off
Why 2???
kid will need one
Ah
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No, you do riser cable up
smh
if you have to pay rent for features, whose car is it exactly?
as usual the people in charge of companies that make things don't understand the economies of intangibles
aside from a few exceptions (like IBM mainframes), there's no place where you're being charged to 'unlock' functionality that is already there
tesla's been on my shit list for a long time
smarthome things? in those cases you're paying for the service and the continued development though
even if the need for the service to exist is extremely dubious
but honda link is the whole remote start/unlock from your phone, right?
that still requires infrastructure
yea I think that's a fair ask
connected car stuff is funky lol
in our cadillac the head unit runs android and very obviously has stuff it pulls off the internet and we don't even pay for internet service for it
like
it has spotify
and doesn't require you to pay for internet service to use it lmao
i'm actually surprised about it
yea the hotspot thing costs $$
i had it on my jeep for a couple years because there was a special online where you could get it for $15/mo
and it uses AT&T and has a much larger antenna than the one on my phone
so I let my phone use wifi calling hahahha
no dropouts
it was great
stopped the service when the jeep was sitting in my driveway all week going nowhere
yea it's kinda funny
my jeep doesn't have internet service atm either and it can still download ota updates
funny how gm and chrysler are basically giving smart features for free while bmw is trying to charge for basic shit
the ota updates don't include map updates
those cost money bwahahah
interestingly gm uses an sd card for the maps
i mean there's further oddness about it all 😄
on gm the screen and the computer are 2 separate units, computer sits under the seat
the chrysler one is an all-in-one unit
I have to give props to GM here
you can replace the computer to update between generations
the chrysler ones are kinda-sorta-interchangeable but not really. in fact, officially, it's not supported at all to swap the radio
like they have 3 factory unit options on the jeeps
if you go from 7" to 8.4", no support
and there are config file changes that need to be done on the car computer to enable all the features of the 8.4"
I wish I could even spend money on it. For my Stinger there literally are no map updates available
Even though at this point I find a solid 20% of all the speed limits appear to be wrong bc they've got a hardon for lowering residential speeds by 5-10mph lately
Even way the fuck out of town in a rural area in spots it will be marked as 35mph now 🤔
lol
eg: Completely separated highway with sound deflection walls, speed limit 40mph 🤦♀️
yea that happened with the stuff in our cadillac, which is funny because it shows speed limits in the cluster
speaking of that....
the camry my bro rented
it had speed limits in the cluster, but no GPS maps!
This section is 30mph even
Needless to say, basically nobody follows the limits in these areas
Wait a second... is the dealership fucking stupid? I notice there's actually a website for nav updates
Need to find an SDcard to format for it. I wonder where they even have an SDcard reader in the car ... you can;'t just use a USB memory storage?
LOL its literally there? Wut.
hehe
Welp I dont have an SDcard reader I can find anymore so this will have to wait. I can probably borrow one from my friend
My old 2010 laptop still has one builtin but I havent powered that up in like 3-4 years bc it has a cracked screen
I used to use old digital camera for this whenever I lost my fucking SD card reader
Most of them had a formatting software built in
And I can use USB to camera as an SD interface
Actually the most scuffed thing, but worked well
i just have one of these. have so many devices that use micro sd lol
That's true, I could try putting it in my DSLR and connecting that to my PC
Cross my fingers on using the SDcard that came with the car. I suppose I can always copy off the existing map data on the card just in case. Assuming the camera doesn't immediately ask to format the card to read it
I'm just kinda annoyed two different Kia dealers said there were no map updates available when there's a fucking website for it AND you can pay to get the update shipped pre-installed on an SDcard for like $25 if you want
How do they not know these things
I have an A65 so I assume that will be the case as well
Yep
yea but those sd card readers are cheap ^^

NVIDIA having trouble selling its fastest Ampere GPU? NVIDIA partner responsible for selling RTX 30 series Founder Edition SKUs has just dropped the price on RTX 3090 Ti model. The card that launched in March with an MSRP of 2000 USD, is now officially available for 1600 USD. That’s a significant reduction for NVIDIA’s fastest […]
GN really does investigative journo VERY well
blessed tech jesus
Is this decent?
look it up vs camelcamelcamel
Das good
I guess thats one good thing about amazon
BTW if you get a 50 dollar giftcard you can get 12 extra bucks
just combine that with anything else
I think this contains a tad bit too much personal information so I am gonna yeet it

TOO LATE
I have doxed Raz
I SHALL NOW STEAL HIS 3080TI
MUAHAHAHAHAHA
Its a Zotac, right? @kindred brook
Yeah
Im not TOO familiar with their brand, despite them being the ?only? GPU company which direct sells here
could be, use pcpartpicker and see what you can throw together

this is pretty decent

I wonder whats the sweetspot for ddr5
DDR4 36000
3600*
that'll work fine but the speed and latency isn't the greatest
I dont know anything about am5 memory controller so make a prediction about what the next specs sweet spot is
what about the XPG memory
I suspect it'll be 5600 or 6000, depending on how much money someone wants to piss away
hmmm
Why piss away?
Actually, sorry, i'm very uninformed on this
The ram speeds, do they make a huge diff?
Like e.g. 5600 vs 6k
that's fine. it's not cheap like ddr4 but it works
The XPG LANCER DDR5-6000 U-DIMM memory delivers blazing frequencies of up to 6000 MT/s, a major leap from the max. frequency of DDR4 modules (3200 MT/s). In addition, the XPG LANCER DDR5 series also features on-die ECC (Error Correction Code) to fix errors automatically in real-time to improve sy...
what about this
now if want some good latency https://www.microcenter.com/product/649258/gskill-trident-z5-rgb-32gb-(2-x-16gb)-ddr5-6000-pc5-48000-cl30-dual-channel-desktop-memory-kit-f5-6000j3040f16gx2-tz5rk-black
it's cough up money time
almost double the asking price
still feels too early for ddr5
the XPG is 249
I dont know if the difference will result in app performance either
xpg isn't a brand I'm familiar with
is intel cool with supporting sockets
for next gen
like will the z690 work with 13 series
oh asus says it will
hmmm
As far as we know yeah but this’ll be the last gen on this socket for intel
We have no clue of restrictions though
Thisll be the last gen... ot was the only gen....
says the guy who spent 10k CAD on a z690 build
z690 is where it's at
at least it will be when mine is built
maybe tonight, would have done it yesterday but my son is off sick and it's super hot
probably only take an hour or two when I actually get to it, but ugh effort
Im fine beingnintel basic
I think my GPU's gonna die
The problem is that this sort of thing happens one in every ten days or so
have you checked temps and done clean driver install?
can also help to reseat it
but yeah could easily be dying
I don't think we're gonna hit the sweetspot for DDR5 for another 1-2 years. Probably DDR5-6400 eventually.
This happens on startup
Although they're supposed to go up to like DDR5-8000 or something like that
and I just tried reseating everything I could find
ooof
how old is it?
4 years or so
An older issue is that the PC would suddenly freeze and display a solid colour
but the sound still goes on for a while before bugging out
Ohboy, getting paid in funbux
Although if the market does rebound, getting paid in BTC at 20k or so probably wouldn't be bad... assuming you could handle living in poverty for 2-3 years waiting for it to come back up
Oh boy, you get linkedin emails. XD
WHy you flexin' on me?
I'm so unqualified even linkedin spam be like "Not this guy"
... but why?...
SOunds like CA going infla.
CN*
I forget you have a WIRD SHORTHAND!
CND
I think it should be CDA personally.
Mostly cause CAD is for Autodesk in my mind
It's ... better?.. now?
I think?
Well.
It can be.
If you havev money
They have CLOUD SERVICES~ now. =P
Need it to pay for those houses
At least they finally banned foreigners doing speculative investment in housing right?
@potent arrow Copying the map data over via my camera now. But the battery was dead and I only charged it to 20% so hopefully it holds out until the download is done
Went down 5% battery to copy 50% so I think im okay
(Its the original battery from 2013 so I should probably replace it)
C H E M I S T R Y
@potent arrow I never looked at the DC power connector for my Sony camera before ... wtf is that
Was hoping I could just connect another mini USB or something for power... nope.
Now I'm a little worried bc it slowed way down and at 9% and still only at 81% installed lol
Hmm Corsair is recommending the XD3 for me not the XD5 ... is it bc they dont think I'd have room for the XD5 reservoir with the front-mount of the rad and fans? Also why not top-mount the fans and rad then? https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Hydro-Pump-Reservoir-Combo/dp/B08JQK6Q4T/
RIP in pieces. Can that be cleaned?
Take it into the camera shop and ask them I guess
I think I need to just jump on toms hardware or something and pick their brains about the custom loop
See if anyone else has done a setup in my same case
meanwhile me shaking out sand from my a6000
Corsair 570X
A9 for actual work and A6000 for adventures
cuz the a6000 can eat a fuck ton of shit and I dont sweat
there is a video somewhere where I taped the poor a6000 to a dune buggy
Yeah I'm sure its out there. I'm just noticing the config wizard on Corsair's site recommends the XD3 which has a tiny reservoir like an AIO
Seems like if you have a regular ATX board its recommended to front mount or you won't have room for the tubes off the CPU
Rad+Push fans is right up against the edge of an ATX board in that case
Which will limit how you route the tubes off teh CPU or make it less elegant
That has a 360+fans in the front and a 240+1 fan on the top
Ah that's probably why if they say it only takes a 240 on top that would be why
The wizard recommends a rear 120mm but I think they just want to upsell me on more shit bc I don't have a GPU waterblock so I dunno what that would be for
Bc I can't imagine a CPU requiring more than 360mm without extreme OC
Base for 13900K is 125, but I think ppl said it could max near 250-270
I have a 3080 but its not part of the waterblock
Sheesh
https://www.newegg.com/red-pro-wd181kfgx-18tb/p/N82E16822234430 18tb 300 bux nice
Oh lawd she thicc
Ohh that XD3 pump is a combo with a reservoir but its only 180ml. They have a larger one that is like 330ml though and this one that looks like a radiator but is actually a reservoir
Get out the file and start grinding /s
angle grinder would be better wym
I'm only half joking bc if its off by only a few mm it looks like the tops of the heat pipes could be shaved down
yeah thinking about it
but for now i gotta get sata cables that arent orange and blue
I found a desk mount plate with Versa 100mm for my monitor that supports two monitors, but it’s only rated to hold 18 pounds on each mount. My monitor is 16.9 pounds. Is that pushing too close to the limit?
Specifically this desk. Includes the mount saving me 35$ to get a versa one rated at 22 pounds
And that’s the monitor. I may get a 2nd one. Not right now, though. My 1080 is struggling enough with one lol
Get a support bracket
Mount the vesa arm to the bracket and it makes it better
I am worried that'll happen to me
Ohhh that would help waylay my fears a lot. They have some good looking ones on Amazon as welll! Steel too!
noctua say it'll fit my case, but I guess it depends where my ram sits
Yeah that’s what i did
Cost like 12 dollars for the plate
And it made life less worrisome 🙏
Just concerned if I should get the base desk without the mount and get a vivo mount rated for 22 pounds or not. I dunno what brand that one is that’s included lol
I mean up to you, what’s cheaper
It’s about the same price I just dunno if 17 pounds on an 18 pound rated mount would stress it
Lewd
Go for a better mount then
Amazon prime day has pretty good deals on PC parts. Would recommend people to check it out
Feel free to ask me any pc related questions
I'd like to ask you why on earth @tame fulcrum is the way he is
Why are all the pc parts “too big” to fit in an Amazon locker? I ain’t risking ordering this stuff to be lost because it’s left on the porch
Even the cpus and I know those are tiny boxes.
Uh.. I never used Amazon lockers before. They just like to put it box within boxes xD
Just the pc cases and Gpu, 360 rad have big boxes.
Tbh why aren’t post offices delivery locations now that you mention it?
They can basically act similarly to the front desk of managed apartments, hold packages till right person comes
And if they don’t come they literally can ship it back from there/have infrastructure in place to handle auction of abandoned stuff
I haven’t encountered any apartment complex who assumes responsibility for your package. They refuse drop offs at all the ones I’ve lived at c_X
Fair enough, I think I meant something more like the mail room in college dorms
Whats the standard for DDR5
the equivalent of DDR 3600
7200 CL 36
Very expensive
well that's a bust
I'll just keep my 6700k running then
till ddr5 is more affordable
Probably be a lot better after AMD Zen 4 is out.
It’s just Zen4 current rumors is DDR5 only
I thought it was leaked zen4 is also ddr4
Which will force manufacturers to speed up the process
Yea both have been rumored
Hard to say
I'll just hold off another year with upgrading my CPU and mobo then
DDR5 was rumored first but received a lot of anger which might made amd rethink
it's not rumors, it's confirmed by amd
rawr
