Anyone have experience with 10gbe/enterprise NICs? Since I'm annoyed at the onboard being shitty, I've been looking, but there are a few options

#

I'm now a bit wary of Intel, but saw a lot of chatter recommending that one, so maybe their enterprise stuff works better than the consumer

#

Then those last two are based on the same chipset

odd sand
#

Other minor thought: The X540 will block airflow in the case more than the last 2

#

Although realistically it's not THAT tall

#

Tried all of the troubleshooting steps offered for the onboard Intel and none of them worked very well. I think with a bit of tweaking I was able to get 28MB/sec instead of 24 but that's it.

Updated the drivers as well

Is there a big difference between having the RJ45 "hard wired" and using the SFP module?

I do have good cooling, however, my room gets too hot (I live in southern USA), so I don't overclock anything.

Was looking more for methods to reduce quality for performance, and not boost my PC's capabilities.

I know there are some settings in the control panel but idk which does what really lol.

Lights and shadows are GPU intensive. Use load on demand and occlusion culling. Possibly drop the resolution if you're not doing 1080p

I was hoping to go with this because of the cost, it looking nice while being able to still fit an ATX power supply but I'd have to go with an air cooler if the 120MM wouldn't be enough, and I don't think air cooling would work too well even with a 140MM exhaust fan at the top.

something like that

#

I think they still don't run particularly hot?

#

like yes you can probably cool it with a fat 120mm aio just fine

modest moss
#

yeah I did a quick search and saw people saying a 120 would be 'ok' but would limit it a bit and that a 240 is better

sly elk
#

it may not run quietly!

#

but you can keep it safely cool

#

also are you sure that case only takes a 120mm?!

#

that's crazy MiqoteDepressed

#

that's funny because those tt towers are often used for custom watercooler setups lol

lime wasp
#

It only fits a 120 AIO, but a 140MM if you air/custom cool.

modest moss
#

"The Tower 100 has good hardware support. It can support a CPU cooler with a maximum height of 190mm, VGA with maximum length of 330mm, a power supply with a length of up to 180mm, two 2.5” SSDs with the side bracket, and two 2.5” or two 3.5” HDD at the rear (without rear fan). Although The Tower 100 is a mini-ITX case, it is still optimized for good cooling. The case comes with two preinstalled 120mm standard fans on top and at the rear for thermal extraction. Moreover, you can put one extra 120mm or 140mm fan on the top of the PSU cover and a 120mm All-in-One CPU cooler can be fitted on the top for basic watercooling."

#

so it's probably just smaller than it looks

sly elk
#

I don't know if anyone makes a 140mm aio though

modest moss
#

I really would suggest you consider keeping your current case and just sticking it under the desk on something to raise it off the carpet

sly elk
#

but usually radiators are the same size whether or not they're aio radiators

modest moss
#

literally all you need is a plank or something

sly elk
#

yea idk 😄 It sounds like they want it for the aesthetic, which is fine, as long as they're willing to have extra noise. 🙂

This thing always seemed like some weird concept car they just decided to build anyway

#

It is cool looking but totally impractical

lime wasp
#

Ugh. It's driving me up the wall trying to sort it out what is the best way to go.

I could go with the Thermal Take Tower with a 120 AIO and spend like $450 total, but have to worry about CPU cooling.

I could go with the NZXT H1 V2 and worry less since it has a 140MM AIO, but spend $650.

Or I could try the Phantex case but then I'd need a 240MM AIO to use it best AND buy an SFX PSU so I'd spend like $750. It could theoretically support an air cooler + fans to reduce the cost but with Mini ITX the recommendations are all AIOs due to reduced air flow.

modest moss
#

or you put a piece of board on the floor for $5 and put it under the desk and you get even more desk space and save hundreds of dollars

#

just saying

#

literally, a board a couple inches bigger each way than your current case

lime wasp
#

It also won't fit under the desk without constantly getting kicked.

Since it is a corner desk with shelves.

lime wasp

@modest moss Not putting anything under the desk - it would be kick city if you did. Shelves are too small for any non-ITX build.

Current tower one small nudge from toppling. You see issue and why I want ITX build.

I'd put it back there?

#

The thermal design power (TDP), sometimes called thermal design point, is the maximum amount of heat generated by a computer chip or component (often a CPU, GPU or system on a chip) that the cooling system in a computer is designed to dissipate under any workload.

#

Back onto my topic from yesterday; do you think an air cooler could get enough air to cool a 5800x in this case?

#

Cuz I could put a 140MM fan on the bottom, the rear exhaust and top, and then have like a 180MM tall air cooler inside with one or two fans to push air out the top.

zealous wolf
#

unless you have a fan like a delta fan type to pull in air...

lime wasp
#

Hmm. Damn.

zealous wolf
#

though it depends on where the air is pulled through from that case...

#

actually is it pulled from the top or bottom..?

lime wasp
#

It has the bottom vents and you can put a fan on top of the vented PSU shroud, then there are two small mesh panels on either side of the tempered glass.

#

Better view of the sides

#

@zealous wolf

zealous wolf
#

hmm, from what im reading, theres only 1 fan for intake and another for exhausting...

#

and i see no screw holes to put more fans either...

lime wasp
#

The specs say 120MM/140MM fans can be put on top of the PSU Shroud, the Rear vent and the Top vent for a total of 3 fans, or 2 Fans (PSU and Rear) and the 120MM Radiator combo.

zealous wolf
#

basiclly only 3 fans in total can be installed in this case...

#

as for pullnig in air, id say a fan that can pull in air the best, is prob the only way to do so...

lime wasp
#

So, quick question; when you use an AIO, you want the Pump to be below where the tubes enter the radiator, right? So even if the tubes dip under the Pump, you just want the connection to the Rad to be above the pump, right?

zealous wolf
#

mostly its gravity itself that does the work when it comes to AIO's as from what JayzTwoCents stated...

#

hence i believe why the rad and fan is positioned up top of that case...

lime wasp
#

I meant in general.

Like I was looking at the Phantex EVO Shift 2 and it looked nice, but the layout forces the pump to be above the rad and I was like.....that's death for the Pump, no?

zealous wolf
#

mmh, to be honest thats hard to say for me since ive never used an AIO myself, though ive seen numerous AIO shots where the tubes and rad are mounted up top of a case or in the front intake area or the rear of the case....

#

but not say, having the rad and tubes on the bottom of the case per se....

sly elk
#

to make sure there's no air bubbles hitting the pump

#

on an aio your pump is usually in the waterblock

#

but not always

#

they stuffed the pump/reservoir in a housing with the radiator on that AIO

#

I'd imagine it won't fit in that tiny TT tower 100 though

#

maybe consider doing a cheap custom loop?

zealous wolf
#

that thing looks fucknig chonky...

#

and custom looping in the case above looks knida possible...

lime wasp
#

I might just try to tough it out with my current case. I mean, it technically fits on top of my desk.

Even if there is only about 2mm of clearance from the feet to the edge of the desk. azasigh

#

I keep looking at this 3080 now that it is kinda affordable.

This should be interesting.

lime wasp
sly elk
#

😦

lime wasp
#

Meshlicious looks nice, but I'd have to get new RAM too as well as a new MB.

But if I stick with my current Tower and just pray to the 12 that there are no earthquakes or anything, I can afford to get a bunch of stuff to upgrade my current build instead.

lime wasp
# sly elk 😦

Like if I just deal with my current case (Corsair 4000x) and go with other upgrades I can go to a 360MM AIO for my 5800x, get an X570 MB instead of the kinda cheap B550 I have and make payments on a 3080 too.

#

Or I could spend nearly the cost of just the 3080 to get my comp in ITX form.

#

I'm feeling the performance upgrade just a little bit more, ya know?

modest moss
#

orrrrrr save all your money and enjoy your pc until it dies or no longer does what you want

sly elk
#

can you just get a side table to put your tower on?

lime wasp
modest moss
sly elk
#

oh

#

if there's an earthquake that won't fall on the floor

#

i don't think

lime wasp
#

I thought about putting it under the desk like Shue said but it would just be kick city down there.

And that left corner is reserved for the AC in summer and is a bad spot in winter (heater vent is right there).

sly elk
#

you can't get a different table?

#

or a taller tv stand maybe?

modest moss
#

is there any room to move the whole desk to the left a bit and stick it back right instead?

sly elk
#

i recall you saying no

#

but my goodness

#

that looks like a super inefficient use of space

#

and a new desk would probably be cheaper than modding your computer lol

lime wasp
#

Literally zero room on the TV stand for anything else. Hell, the TV itself barely fits.

The desk doesn't fit properly in the corner (even though it is a corner desk).

sly elk
#

i was suggesting getting a new desk that is more space efficient

lime wasp
#

There isn't one that will fit in the room while having more desk space - they'll all come out too far and jut into the floor area.

sly elk
#

and that corsair 4000d is probably already on the smaller side for a normal tower case anyway

lime wasp
#

It is.

modest moss
#

one option, and you'll probably hate it, is get a triangular stand/table made (or get lucky and find one the right size/height) and stick it in the back right corner here to extend desk a little

#

then you could turn your case parallel to the wall, slot it back a bit, etc

lime wasp
#

I think it should be good for now.
