that sounds like a neat idea
for general image-editing stuff, do y'all prefer Krita or GIMP?
neither of those are free
yeah, clip studio has a trial though if you want to try it and see if it's worth it
and it's 3 months long
Steal Photoshop
i don't do nearly enough graphical work for any paid program to be "worth it"
gimp is fine
It's really not much different than building a tower. Just get a rack mount that's has enough U to put your components in at can accommodate a conventional PC build. The biggest difference is the cable runs after that you have to watch out for as longer distances introduce more likelyhood of problems.
i ahve a very quiet server rack cuz it only has network devices like my router, nas and switch in it etc. as of now i got my pc case next to it lol
just wanna fit it in 1 place
Hello. Sorry for long msg
So I'd like to add a 6th fan to my PC, a friend helped me buy/ build my PC but he has a lot going on rn so I'd like to not bug him. I believe my fan hub can only hold 5 so I need to buy another to add more fans. Idk what exactly I need, I'm not a tech guy lol. I have the link to the fans set I used if any1 can help.
check if your motherboard has a none in use fan headers
so basically my server is next to my monitors xD
in that case the real trouble would be finding the case. Most are designed for server setups which might not be able to handle pc builds.
not really
xD
i need to fit my AIO in there tho
which is gonna be a pain
360mm radiator...
it technicalkly fits a 240mm but it would be bumping against my powersupply
Well unless you're going to need the drive bay populated you can just pull out one of the middle fans and run through there while mounting the rad assembly on the front.
nah im not gonna use the drive bays
i dont think the cable of my aio is long enough to reach to the front of the case tho
Though I would say if you're going to push for liquid cooling then it might be wise to change over to a custom loop.
but ye ima replace the front fans with noctuafans anyways
so might as well replace the aio for a good fan cooler then
well n ah ima just try and see waht i can reuse
but ye best to custom loop
Looking at my mobo manual, im looking for any Sys_Fan connectors right?
yeah
OK I got lots. I just need plug it in just that or is another cable for power supply too?
just that
Oh that's a lot easier than I thought
make sure the fan is the correct orientation you want though
probably the hardest part lol
which doesn't mean much since it's easy
Orientation?
like if you want it blowing or sucking air
Blowing air out
just make sure you have the fan facing the right way then
each fan is different, some will have arrows to indicate airflow
Ah lol ok
euh ngl
you can use any fan
if it says cpu fan it really doesnt care
xD
most motherboards allow you to change the funcitonality in the settings
Ik I need a smaller one than the sets I have. I just didn't know how this stuff connects and everything lol. I wanted a bigger case but it was sold out
Ty so much for the help, time go find a fan
np
Wait this image is confusing
I have 7 fans
9 if I include the cpu fans
I have 5 for my case, 2 on my aio cpu cooler, if I could've got the bigger case I would've had 10
A good general rule of thumb is the label side is the intake and the spec detail side is the exhaust. Won't be that way in every situation, but for most it works.
You can also look at the way the fan blades curve
If they're curved towards you then they're blowing towards you
why do you want more fans?
If they curve away they blow away
they blow out the grille side
I don't have one in back of my case.
easy
Not that I know of, yes fixing a problem that doesn't exist
AIO and 5 case fans sounds like plenty to me
5 case fans is ridiculous
Then to be honest you don't really need more fans.
assuming they're in a sensible configuration and not working against each other, leave it alone, unless temps are an issue
^
what if they just want to spend money
I have 2 on bottom blowing air up/in, 1 on side blowing in, 1 side blowing out and 3 top blowing out
Levant buy me some nice pc parts, you trust fund baby
No u
you realise that hot air rises
when I fart I can feel it go up my back
anyways whats #technology-discussion up too
Only reason to put a fan in the rear as an exhaust is if they had an air cooler that exhausts in that direction

That's a solid setup. No real reason to put more in.
But since they have an aio i dont think the rear fan is gonna do much except maybe slightly improve airflow over the vrms?
And this is just a maybe
It might make it worse

this whole thing is being approached backwards anyway
you don't count the fans or look at the configuration
you check the temps
^
if temps are fine, you do nothing
do they know what the temps are tho
if you're Levant, you do everything and fail
Shue
thats a gif of me
Levant buying pc parts ^

2800 IN QUEUE NOW LETS FUCKIN GO BOYS
atleast we don't let you go team blue.... you'd burn your house down
remember that AMD user having to update chipset drivers and wasting half their day
never had to do that on team blue
yeah but if you remove power limits....

mid range chipsets aren't out yet
More heat= more power
Right up until you realize you effectively need to rebuild your system.
Don't @ me
@latent grotto
Just need a new mobo and current ddr5 doesn't make a huge difference except for compression iirc?
I dont remember
i'm waiting for next year to upgrade my cpu
zen 3d
But there's a better price to performance ratio for the 12600k
mfw ghost ping
sorry it was me

DDR5 is based of EMMC for stability so it's not just compression. That said, I don't think the 12th gen socket is being put in DDR4 setups.
i fat fingered a letter and pinged you instead of @latent grotto
There are ddr4 only boards
that only considers the cost of the CPU part and not the motherboard and RAM
we'll see a lot more next year when lower end chipsets come out i'm sure
because doesn't it right now do pcie 5.0 as well?
I don't really see why a gamer would care above 3.0
You can ignore ram tho unless you have a use case for ddr5
sure, point stands
in your keyboard?
Not for another 5-10 years at least. There are applications similar to what PS5 does to "scene dump" instantly from storage, but developers aren't going to rely on that in the PC sphere for a long time yet, since installbase is so small.
One of the rare cases where a console has a tech edge over PC
That doesn't stop people from spending double on a PCIE 4.0 SSD for that sweet 0.3 sec faster load time though.
that's always been kind of true, consoles have more advanced technology baked into them because they don't need hardware flexibility and they have much longer lifecycles
the NV2A in the original xbox had some special alpha-channel culling feature that made emulating OG xbox games on x86 hardware pretty fuckin difficult
even though the xbrick was ostensibly just a shitty celeron and a Ti4200
the "scene dump" thing you described probably won't be leveraged by developers in console games until much later anyway, that seems like something that requires a lot of additional programming even if it's a console exclusive feature
Yeah, I was going to say that even then, it's a feature only a handful of well-funded AAA developers are likely to even do.
Even if the PS5 nags you, I can almost guarantee the 3500 speed drives will be fine for any PS5 titles you would try to run on it
I think it was Linus Tech Tips that did a test, and the only thing that would auto-fail a drive was not being PCIE4.0 I think. The speed test would give a warning, but not outright be rejected.
honestly, I would say only insomniac or guerilla will leverage it
not going to catch capcom or square-enix modifying their engines to use this new feature
unless unreal engine incorporates it
At least until it's something that's automagically baked into the engine for like Unreal 6.0 or 7.0 or something.
jinx
well, capcom makes their own engine
so there's little to no chance of RE engine being modified to use some new jazz that only the PS5 can use right now
Kinda like we're finally seeing more broad multicore adoption in games, but that's almost certainly bc unreal or unity started including a multithread scheduler or something into the engine to spin things off to helper threads
yeah
it mostly helps that unreal engine's widespread penetration into the market has kind of forced even in-house engine developers to add those functions
Hello guys I’m desperate, I’ve been trying to download the game since Friday and I just can’t seem to do it at this point
I use a mobile hotspot with around 5mb/s I tried did stuff to my internet explorer
Gave fixed dns’s
Used a VPN
But nothing works
you tried quicklauncher?
hhmmm yet again the GM EV1 came up on reddit. It's funny, I hear about that fuck up about as much as the Ford Pinto fuckup, and GM only made 1,000-ish EV1s. Whoever thought "we should just recall the leased carss and crush them, so we can save money since it's not profitable and we don't want to support them with parts and service" didn't realize it'd produce decades of bad will hahaha.
that sounds like GM to me
then again we're talking about the company that made their flagship car in china and somehow ran Hummer out of business
"let's save pennies now and get deep fucked later"
and then there's the whole corvette thing
nothing wrong about the car itself, but the toxic sales practices and they only make like 10 of them a year lol
the other funny thing is that GM's competitor to the pinto is actually just as badly designed
the vega?
wasn't the vega a bigger car?
GM's exercise in cost cutting is ever-present
they made special train cars to ship them vertically because they realized they could save some $$ on shipping costs lmao
every fuckup in GM's history has been "I'm trying to save some pennies"
wat
Can someone help me with the sound quality issue? I've been trying to fix it, but It still cracks when I use an ability on sage. Or any skill for that matter.
I've tried to change the audio equalizer, changed to DX9 which kind of helps but not entirely, as the issue just arises again. I've changed my headset over to speakers, still didn't work. I've looked into processes, nothing suspicious that I can find. I don't want to redownload the ENTIRE game just to fix this, but at this point, that's my only option I can think of.
I hate it when windows can't decide which way my trackpad is scrolling
-swipes 2 fingers down- -page goes down- -swipes 2 fingers down again- -page goes up-
it's like how about 80% of laptop trackpad drivers don't 100% remember that I disabled tap to click
Àh, should've specified that I've done that.
Didn't fix the issue.
ah
Looks like a lot of other people are experiencing sound quality issues as well... So it will be taken on board for sure. Wish it would get resolved, but it seems like it's a difficult problem to pin down.
hmmm i bet that's a rigol 1000z
i wonderw what the thing next to it is
nooo
oh ok
never seen one like that before
never seen one like that before though 😄
i realize that sounds silly
the ones I'm used to seeing are the long ones made by hp/agilent
like these
or your standard yellow fluke or one of its many clones
the one in that picture looks like a hybrid between the two designs
aye the only places I've been that had them were in the college EE labs
and at work
and like
i see plenty of cheap power supplies but yea xD
the cheapest scope at work is one of those rigols someone has on a test bench they use for playing with random prototypes and I haven't seen it used in ages
most of them cost more than a car
and my job is to write software so if I'm messing with one of those then we're having a really really bad no good day
though if I'm in the lab it's already not a great day
the novelty of that kinda balances it out
it's a real mixed bag
i'd rather the software bug be found and solved at my desk in a sim, or at least on a bench by my desk
rigol? yeah
they're decent considering the price but they have fairly strict requirements about using a time-synchronized trigger scheme
dangit
I decided to try a magnesium supplement i had laying around and then wanted to take a heartburn tablet
... realized the heartburn tablet has lots of magnesium in it
if you try to self-reference with a rolling trigger rigol scopes do weird things depending on the time scale so it's not really ideal to use rolling trig
never tried a rigol DMM
fluke is DA STANNARD but amprobe is like, OK
I have an amprobe at work that's over 10 years old, still a champion even though it doesn't have a hall effect sensor for current measurements
if ya noticed, I was noting that I'd never seen a DMM like the one in the picture lol
all I've ever seen are the portable flukes and their copycats, and the oldschool pizza box HPs
the most disturbing fact is I don't personally own a DMM
i've never gotten to use one of those 😦
I have used a tek a few times
honestly, you should always use a reference trigger and not rolling
but rigol's case is that it draws from the delay flag position and refreshes after 100% of the draw window buffer is full
so it doesn't scroll right to left and let you see stuff in real time
at the end of the day you're paying like $3k for a four channel high bandwidth scope, what did you think was going to happen
it's not a tektronix
not for the high refresh rate and high bandwidth ones
the top-end one is like $8k or something
I got a decent frequency sensing one for like $60
Looking at a tracert for primal servers
10 26 ms 27 ms 27 ms ae-4.r00.scrmca02.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.7.57]

12 26 ms 30 ms 28 ms 204.2.229.230
13 27 ms 28 ms 28 ms 204.2.229.10
Those are the last 4 nodes in the route. Does SE own the FFXIV servers or are they managed and operated by NTT America (owner of the 204.2.229 IP range)?
Well more of is 204.2.229.230 a DC or a CDN?
operated by NTT
SE only has a contract with them
Interesting. So from what I'm seeing (did a tracert for Elemental) basically SE owns their japanese servers but contracts their US ones. To a company that also happens to be japanese.
I would assume SE own the hardware and rent space in NTT's DCs
yeah, and we all heavily criticized the decision
its illogical to me they would move the data center from the far east to the far west
they recently talked about trying to buy more hardware iirc
on top of going with someone more reputable, NTT was probably only chosen because it being japanese lol
if you're only gonna have one data center per region
you should make it in a centralized area
they should've chosen chicago or kansas city
Doesn't make sense if your userbase is skewed towards one end of the continent.
Which tbh, idk which end of the US FFXIV is skewed towards.
the Quebec DC was so bad they had emergency maintenance almost weekly
on top of Level 3 and Comcast having a bitch fest over routes
L3 and Comcast is nothing they can do about.
at the least it should've stayed in the east, thats where a majority of the population lives
Not the tech population though supposedly
there are plenty of networking fields and data centers along the east
north virginia is one of the biggest networking hubs
True.
But we frankly don't know what factors goes in their heads when deciding where to put a DC.
I just think they were familiar with dealing with NTT obviously being a japanese company
but I dont think NTT is a very good host
their node before it reaches WAN is dog shit
But with their going international strategy (or i might be mistaken from another company) It would make sense for the to consider owning a full blown DC, land and design and all.
At least one a continent.
or contract out with a larger cloud provider like amazon or microsoft
Well like it or not NTT is international, and it's an L1 provider apparently.
Yadda yadda cloud is not the solution to everything yadda yadda data consistency.
but that doesnt excuse it being poorly implemented
but with anything networking
its subjective
Yup.
im not a CCNP lol
Out of curiousity how did you figure this bit?
Fuck I'm a SE one year out of college, I'm doing this out of curiousity.
Also I'm assuming the 204.2.229.230 node is the dogshit one?
I would have to look, dont recall exactly the ip
yeah .230
which im assuming is either the outside wan address or the node before it
Well I know 10 in that list i posted is the end of their network in sacramento
yeah thats where the DC is located
I feel like its a combination of factors
the net code in ffxiv (and if I have to be honest a lot of japanese games) isnt great
and I think it doesnt handle syn-ack exchanges particularly well
its pretty picky on the quality of the network traffic
I use to have issues with some modems where the game would just up and DC out of no where
others it would DC when transitioning to the duty server
just really weird issues
this is also evident with the whole 2002 issue
for some they never get it, others they get it constantly
thats inexcusable
I wonder if there are any other L1 companies available in Japan.
I miss the quebec servers though
if you had the ticks right you could land a weaponskill during the jump anim lock
now it doesn't work because the latency is too high
I hated them, every tuesday was a shit show and they constantly had to go down for maintenance lol
so many times we had to call raid early because it was so laggy
Ok so all NA servers are at sacramento, which tbh that is big dumb.
Prolly ease of maintenance but piss from a servicing NA perspective
btw im still 2002ing
I gave up trying hours ago lol
they need to do rolling restarts
and kick all the afk abusers
and they should do this every morning until things relax
having 0-1 percent packet loss is normal, but even during normal operations with NTT I would see sometimes 5-15 percent packet loss
I'm just sat here quietly logged in to an NA DC from the UK with no lag and no disconnections
it runs perfectly fine once in
log in at 8am EST, don't log out
I still anticipate them implementing daily restarts
its the only way you'll get an even playing field
I dont blame people for abusing the afk system
but at the same time
its frustrating as well
I heard they're aggressively going after people with GM tools to remove players who are doing that kind of thing
the whole 2002 thing is absolutely inexcusable though
I don't abuse the afk system, I just set an alarm and move my character every 8 minutes while I stop for food
thats fine, and I wasnt accusing you of such
but there are a lot of people who are
they stopped the inn cutscenes from keeping you logged in
also the 2.0-5.0 end credits autolog you
I wonder how they plan to stop people from using outside tools to control their inputs
they have no way of proving that from a game perspective
as they dont scan your PC for programs
like a lot of other online games do
I would imagine they can't
which is why I think rolling restarts is the best solution
kick everyone off at 7am, if you are playing around that time you have little competition and can log back on np
So they have a separate contractor for EU, a german company.

Also what I'm discovering is that from my end part of the problem is L3 shenanigans.
boot everyone at NA primetime
"we've decided to start initiating daily restarts at 5am JP time for NA region"
"good luck"
lmao
like inside it.
So to recap
- NA servers are managed by NTT America, who also happens to own an L1 network and therefore any routing to them prioritizes getting onto their L1 network. And their DC tech is possibly crap. Also all 3 DCs are physically likely in the same location.
- JP servers are SE owned, it's possible they have their own japan wide WAN. Differences in SE WAN routing may imply that they're geographically separated.
- German servers are managed by KDDI, which lives under twelve99's L1 network. I have no idea why I have a really good connection to Chaos from Seattle.
all three NA DCs are definitely in the same physical location
they're mercifully on different boxes so if aether dies primal and crystal don't go with it
Yeah but NTT could fuck up with their DC and shut all 3 servers down
See facebook & co shutting down cause of DNS
that was a problem with the quebec colo though
the one entry point to canada was constantly shitting the bed because everyone thought it was the other person's problem to fix
People: The internet is decentralized
Reality: The internet is a hierarchy cause decentralizing is expensive and messy
Why is there only one entry point to canada anyway
- Fuck lumen servers they can't even reliably respond to my tracerts
right, back into the 6k line at last
because canada's population is extremely small and sparse, with much of it on the east coast
the internet gets more and more centralized every year lol
I think most of it is hosted on aws or azure
and if you piss cloudflare off you're going to have a bad time
Which is a consequence of having stuff under one roof being easier for customers of any kind
That is still like one point of failure. And we all know single points of failures are bad
tell that to most small/medium businesses

My year in industry has made me adopt the stance of finding the fastest way to generate evidence of "not us, fuck off"
haha
I assume IT has the same ability
What does disabling CSM do in the BIOS (outside of cutting off legacy stuff)? It was enabled so I disabled it, I run off a UEFI W10 so it booted fine. What else can it stop from working exactly?
CSM presents your computer to the OS as if it were an oldschool machine using BIOS
I can't find a nice explanation on a page so I'll try and give you a really goofy TL;DR, sorry if I botch it up
for the most part, anything made in the last 10+ years uses UEFI
it is a more sophisticated, more 'universal' way of making the firmware for your motherboard and the glue the OS uses to reach the hardware on it
Any fixes for that audio bug?
Does it affect things like old hardware? I have a drawing tablet that’s from 2008 lol or is it just the OS and the PC hardware itself that checks CSM?
Sound settings>Advanced sound options>App volume and device preferences, (with game open). Alternatively "Sound mixer options" typed up from the start menu
The "Outpout" box i have circled was blank. i changed it to my headset.
This may not work for everyone. i hope this helps somebody. If it works for you please...
Already tried that
ahh found a write up that made me a little happier
https://askubuntu.com/questions/993269/difference-between-legacy-bios-and-uefi
Tried most things, was just wondering if there was a proper solution yet
not that we've seen, keep hassling SE
but most of the time people just call UEFI firmware "BIOS" anyway, including a lot of menus
Hmmm that makes sense, I suppose I’ll leave it disabled then since it’s apparently required to be set to disabled to fully allow Secure Boot with Windows UEFI
Is anyone else having issues with Steam? I click 'play', it shows a load bar but instead of opening the launcher it just... doesn't. And nothing happens. Same thing happens if I try to launch through the FFXIV folder.

I have no idea if that's a joke or a scam
that looks like a m.2 sound card

it looks even more ridiculous in this picture
" As with everything, especially digital, it take a while for the components to settle down. Will update my findings when I have some running hrs on it...but so far, I am positive! "
boop ~~ was wondering if someone could explain the new audio thing to me? please keep it simple..
its okay ^^
i was wondering if it something i need for a better experience or if i can get away without it
i dont really understand it
Lemme try google. But you can get away without it since well.... This game's existed without it from 2.0 to 5.5
XD
Try this I guess
that is a strong point imo
Spatial audio, so yeah defo surround sound shenanigans.
The demo on the website does give a difference even on my laptop speakers, but it's also throwing me off.
Well I'm assuming that here it's actually tuned such that sounds correspond to where they're coming from, which you can't do if you're using a generic device.
oo i see
I am not an audio engineer, I am totally BSing btw.
But I'm somewhat confident im not far off the mark.
im so bad with tech i go prebuilt for pc and have youtube recommend mouse / keyboards XD
Think of it as a movie providing surround vs the theater only providing surround.
You can do more interesting shit with the surround when you're toying with the source.
How interesting is an exercise left to the listener
so it lets you fine tune the audio to exactly how you like it?
I'm assuming it's more of they fine tuned it to make it sound like you have real directional audio
interesting. any idea if it is a 1 time payment or will it be like a monthly sub?
Looks like a one time payment
And note that FFXIV is the only surround sound game pack they have, so
- I'm really inclined to believe my unknowledgable ass is right
- Quality is questionable
There's the trial for download anyway if you wanna try it out.
hmm i will definitely have to try it first but if its a 1 time payment i dont mind XD
And apparently yeah it supposedly offers personalization
thank you for taking the time to explain this to me 😄 @boreal surge
Gamepack did nothing for me. It's not additional sound add to the game.
It's just another Razer Surround/Nahimic software like
Stick do you sound card surround
I'm currently using https://us.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-x4 you can scan your ear and upload it to the hardware
I'm puzzled, what's the benefit of this?
like, audiophile stuff is nominally Super Isolated to preserve The Frequency or whatever shit, but I don't see how applying audiophile oil to a SSD makes it any better than a bog-standard noise-rejecting PCB design
there's something to be said for quality cable design and there's a marked difference in quality between a $3/m cable and a $15/m cable, but not so much between $15 and $250
@umbral moss i first heard about digital snake oil a couple years ago. their logic seems to be that the lower clas...err.. quality equipment passes more noise to the analog amplifier/speakers, and that's why you'd want a $200 ethernet cable
i'm not sure which angle they're going for here
sounds like "we filtered the power going to the drive so that the bits remain purer" which is insane 😄
i wonder if their heads would explode if they found out their virgin sound bits were encoded on a random apple/dell machine with an off the shelf SSD
I mean, if your argument was that you're combatting vdroop by reinforcing all the output channels so your device maintains a constant voltage to your amp input
like, I guess
but that's not what any of that noise isolation shit does
they're just in desperate need for a hobby
imho the external power supply for the SSD was the icing on the cake for me
I wonder if motherboards are designed to handle backfeeding power through the pcie pins
i've seen some very strange cards in my time, and I mean, GPUs do get 'external' power but not like this XD
that's typical
there's some level of "yeah, maybe you do need some power filtration", but not to the extent that you're talking picovolts of ripple
the engineering required to get your noise ratio to 1000:1 is dumb for the gain you get from it
seriously tho
that lovingly run custom braided power cable for the dc 5v in. -chef's kiss-
👌

I think they're using one of these to power the SSD
ETA January 29th. Linear Power Supply Series Features High quality toroidal transformer provide pure power. Separate ground for each output rail. Ultra low ripple noise. No humming or buzz noise for 50Hz and peak load. Dual output provide 3A for each. Over Temperature Protection (OTP). The 3mm thickness of the aluminum chassis to e...
🤔
why would you use a toroidal core instead of a IGBT setup
you should absolutely be dodging any analog components in your power delivery circuitry if you can avoid it because of the reactive power issues
so much humbucking you need to engineer in to keep the PFC reasonable
I very much like what I hear! Swapping from mobo power to external LPS is indeed a major step up. Even quieter background and the biggest difference is a big increase in dynamics, more body, better controlled (tighter) bass, and more air around individual instruments and vocals with better detail again.
I bet that supply pisses 60Hz noise everywhere
and what they're hearing is the transformer core's resonance being picked up in their headphone voice coils

even if you had a frequency response curve I bet there's no difference between the internal board PSU and this external thing
o_O
like, no measurable actual difference
yea in another thread someone's talking about a custom PC build using an audiophile power supply with separate 5v/12v instead of using a normal ATX power supply
like, you can but why
a high-quality single rail 1000W PSU will have practically zero ripple and extremely high wall efficiency
only plebs listen to digital media anyway
a normal high quality 1000w psu will probably produce cleaner power and have lower chances of defects since they mass produce the dang things
I only listen to live chamber orchestras in my parlour
i mean
correct, the only way to listen to music is to wear an aluminum foil hat and receive the signals through the double-weave insulating layers
if you're powering an extremely sensitive multi-ghz chip at <1v
one would hope the power supply doesn't have noise issues to begin with lol
in fairness, there's a ton of redundancy baked into PC parts to accommodate shitty power supplies and intermittent input power voltage
🙂 true
there's like 30% redundant power/ground pins on an intel chip because they don't trust manufacturers to make all the pins on an LGA correctly
which begs the question of why the fuck they need so many pins if they aren't going to use them in the first place
oooo this is a really fancy ethernet cable
I bet it performs like shit too
because it's super fucking thin and has zero crosstalk isolation
"Network cables carry digital information, and, just like all other digital cables in a system, the data transfer is incredibly sensitive to tiny variations in amplitude and spacing. These can rob drama and vitality from a performance by hiding musical nuances, bleaching colours, and flattening dynamic contrasts. It’s important to know that higher data rates are more vulnerable to external interference too. That’s why maintaining data integrity is more important than transfer speed when streaming music."
you know, things that actually matter to a cable like that
the ideal cable design is just a big dick coax cable with a strong dielectric and triple woven shielding
this reminds me of a few years back when somebody was talking about "bleaching emails"
look at how thin those braided sections are
that's like 32AWG wire
or thinner
there's 11 pins in ethernet
😱
the chances of there being a defect in the sound file between their host and their receiver are so tiny lol
the impedance on those things must be bonkers, have fun load-matching that over any sort of distance
like I agree with your comment
also have fun measuring your voltage on the receiver end
all they're doing is making things worse lol
yeah
nearly all of these things are overengineered to convince people that robustly engineered products are bullshit and you need this Very Elegant solution
that doesn't work
so you can buy this Other Very Elegant solution
Well you need a minimum amount of speed, there's a reason you stream via UDP instead of TCP.
Because having your song stop and go is a lot more disruptive then having minor details lost.
Not to mention your brain is apparently magic at filling in minute details.
it seems what that dude with the crazy power supply setup did is stream to their .. ipad? with a program called euphony?
-scratches head-
you do, but if you're using an ethernet cable the limiting factor will be your loss/m, induced by your cable's intrinsic impedance and your overall circuit's load balancing
there's just a limit to how far you can go with thin gauge wires because the losses kill your signal quality below the recovery threshold at the load end
(this is also why HDMI is a bullshit spec designed by assholes who have no fucking idea how cables work)
But I find it hard to believe the slightly better than average cable won't be sufficient
a good quality cable is thick and stiff and uses much heavier gauge wires than you'd normally find
specifically to drop that impedance/m value and increase the distance you can go before the vdroop kills you
Yeah makes sense + has better EM shielding.
Cause they can't turn as much for home use right.
they're only like 15-20% more expensive than a monoprice bullshit cable just because of the extra cost of the cable stock
Remember some of that shit from my networks class
nah, it's just that consumers don't value them
IM IN
it's why 17" laptops are cheap as hell even when they have the same hardware as 15" laptops
it's an unpopular form factor so there's a cost savings associated with it even though there's nothing wrong with it whatsoever
Makes sense.
in-wall cables have different insulation requirements because of electrical code/fire prevention requirements
hmm
you can get thick boy cables with in-wall insulation for cheap too
the fat cables are pretty annoying
and when you're in the walls you don't give a shit about bend radii anyway
true.
since you can do whatever the fuck you want behind the drywall
Out of walls tho
Yeah when i said home use was specifically referring to the not hidden to the user bits.
eh, even the thick boy cables are still malleable enough to make reasonable bends for visible applications
I use thick boy HDMI cables and they're fine

if you live in the US you should be using BJC for any cables you want to run because they actually provide cert info on anything you buy
-uses flat ethernet cable- -slams door on it-
Huh.
For a moment I was thinking of the VC company
imagine what could have been if sony wasn't so fucking effective at lobbying for proprietary bullshit 😔
Imagine what could have been if the public and lawmakers could be arsed to ignore lobbying for anything.
well, HDMI is largely sony and a handful of other media outlets
the reason HDMI even exists is because sony wanted a proprietary connector and an obnoxious DRM scheme in the same cable/connector
SDI and DP are capable of the same bandwidth without the DRM overhead penalty, which is why they have higher bandwidth at the same "generation" as HDMI
you lose 12% of your HDMI bandwidth to HDCP
also, sony's lobbying wasn't to the public, it was to other content companies, who all signed on to the HDMI consortium
they did the same thing with blu-ray but forced the issue with making the BDR part of the PS3 at a huge loss (it was 30-40% of the PS3's BOM cost in 2006, and a large chunk of why there's so many fuckbright blue LEDs around)
Huh, learn something new a day
mmm i honestly wish i could give you a better convo over this
not enough knowledge
HDMI makes me extremely angry because of how shitty it is as a spec, connector, and cable
behold, a shitload of good info on why HDMI sucks
from a company that manufactures the cables
imagine designing a spec around an extremely fragile 38-conductor connector, and then making sure that connector is non-locking so it can have intermittent contact when the cable weight pulls the connector boot
Yeah, I got a really thick gauge HDMI cable some years back and I was worried it would pull on the port in the TV too hard. Had to make sure it was routed to avoid that as much as possible. Which was a bitch bc the cable was hard to even bend
at least DP tries with a locking tab on the connector
if you have both attached to a monitor with cable management too tight and then try to rotate your screen
HDMI is like "haha, good luck bitch"
mini-DP is the real devil
just make everything SDI-15G already
jesus
fuck these garbage twisted pair configurations
rotate your screen. not enough slack in the cable. The HDMI cable breaks. The displayport socket on the monitor breaks. GG.
We have mini-DP connectors at work that are non-locking, so you try to adjust the monitor on the adjustable stands and it pulls them out lol
and my favorite thing about DP cables is the monitors always seem to set the plug up so the button is facing towards the back of the screen
@fallen otter https://github.com/goatcorp/FFXIVQuickLauncher/releases use the quick launcher
Which one am i downloading, setup.exe?
yeah
Didnt work unfortunately.. thanks anyway. ill keep looking for a fix
try checking gpu driver then just incase
i've had times where it launched and crashed and it was because of gpu drivers (hank will say it's because amd but yeah.... worth a shot)
i've updated them already sadly.
okay, did you update using ddu?
nah, just through the Geforce interface
try using ddu see if it fixes issues and we'll go from there
Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V18.0.4.6 Released. ChangeLog: NVIDIA: Removal of some left over logs from NVContainer. All: threading enhancements. All: Fixed issue (64) When using -Silent the program stays open after being done uninstalling. All: Registry cleaning improvement.
would anyone know how to transfer hotbars etc from 1 service account to another. it doesn't seem to work the same way as between characters
login to your both accounts, so it generates the folder where your secondary service account character is
copy files from My Documents > My Games > FFXIV > Characters > (find your character) and copy the files over to the new folder
where would i find this folder, is it one of the CHR files?
is anyone here tech savy?
so I have a laptop ive bought a new powerbrick/cable. the issue I have sometimes it boiunces from power to battery for no apparent reason.
its super intermittnent where it works for days, weeks at a time
I just unplugged it, let it set for 20 mins now its fine. could a faulty current in my apartment cause that?
sounds like someone thought to be smart with being wish.com cheap
you didnt buy an official brick did you
then that's very concerning
why did you replace it in the first place if i may ask
Maybe having it unplugged
Direct from the manufacture
It’s been good since I last posted
okay nice
Makes it curious what the issue is since it’s super random and infrequent
I can’t replicate the issue lol
how is DP compared to HDMI, not familiar with internals of cables but to me they look similar apart from the corner of the cable that plugs in as well as the small latches
dp is so far ahead compared to HDMI, i never understood why they made HDMI the standard.
HDMI recently got 2.1 which allows us to have 4k@120 which literally barely works, while DP already had this for YEARS with a lot more stability
dp 2.0 will eventually be out and dwarf hdmi until whatever the newer hdmi standard is most likely
it'll be dp 2.0 with 80Gbps max vs hdmi 2.1 48Gbps max
until then though, on paper hdmi 2.1 is better but dp is still more stable
hdmi 2.1 is too expensive to implement anyways
i got a ps5 and a hdmi 2.1 tv
hell naw that shit running 4k@120
it just aint doing it
and it will never
i mean it's newer, it'll get there
tbh I had that happen before with an asus laptop and I am ashamed to admit I simply hadn't plugged it in fully
i use DP but i'm using something thats easy to run
1440p at 180Hz so its within spec for both i believe
Hey, my monitor just burned out after 12 years of being awesome, now I need a new one. Can anyone recommend me a good one for FFXIV? (color vibrancy/accuracy/res are my primary concerns)
Yip yip yip yip yip yip
What video card do you have?
Is there a resolution you'd like?
Refresh rate?
Panel size?
Ultrawide or 16:9?
I don't care for refresh rate too much, 1440p and higher would be nice.
GPU is only a 1060 but I'll be upgrading to a 4 series soon as they drop.
24'' or higher would be nice
ultrawide would be nice but not a requirement
whats your budget?
its a bit weird since I'm in Israel and prices are inflated
but about $700 here, so probably about $500 by US prices
What laptop model do you have? You may have bought a power brick with insufficient wattage for your laptop model
@jaunty flare 27" is the standard for 1440p panels. If you want color accuracy you want whats called an IPS panel. It's the best at color accuracy
@odd sand thanks!
actually solid review. you can see if one of these matches your budget in your country

The downside to IPS used to be low refresh rates and latency, but as panel tech has gone up and the TN panels are at like 360hz now, it means you can easily find IPS panels that are 144hz+ with reasonable latency
if you really want stuff to pop though, a VA panel is a good choice, too
am happy with mine and use my IPS as the second screen now
oooh
ULMB mode is great. My monitor can go up to 240hz, but usually I leave it at 120hz so I can use ULMB. Eliminates nearly all motion blur from flick movements
at the cost of visual quality
How so? I would say that everything blurring to hell any time you make a fast motion with the camera is costing visual quality heh
because with ULMB you sacrifice brightness greatly and introduce a flickery image, than can cause headaches for people sensitive to it
I like IPS
anybody know how tf i can update my monitor firmware
can't get it recognized lol
I guess I've never noticed any flicker, but I'll take your word for it since I don't know how the tech works exactly, I just know when playing TF2 I "see" way more of the action while in the thick of things with ULMB than just running it at 240hz without
its essentially a bandaid fix for an issue that shitty IPS panels still struggle with a lot
but its not really necessary anymore on the decent new-gen panels
it affects everyone differently ofc, but its not widely popular for a reason
you should try a good VA panel someday if you ever get the chance, because they are generally much faster than IPS while still maintining decent colors. i just recently upgraded to the G7 odyssey and i am pretty happy with it, even though i had to play the panel lottery
git gud
i literally cannot lol
do you maybe have to use a usb stick and plug it into a specific slot on the monitor?
did you try reading the manual
A USB cable?
yeah

wasn't recognized not in usb c or a
you might hate me for this but eve spectrum
I don't even know what that is
it was that crowd funded monitor lol
it actually turned out well
hardware unboxed did a review on it too
and given i paid like 500-600 area for it because of early backing, worth it
Well I hope you work it out :)
yeah, i'm probably going to get a usb a to b cable since c/a weren't working
600 on a monitor you can't update sounds like a legit bargain
lol it's probably user error
The guide says you can use type B in place of Type C so sure
yeah but i need another cable
so i gotta wait
i have type a and c
i have a type b somewhere but it's in that box of cables...
and that shit is tangled/messy af
Wasteful!
Anyone knows why do I have 45 fps on normal settings with my specs? Games like ds3, re2 and rdr run on 120+ fps on high settings and here I don't understand what is happening at all. My specs: GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop, i5-10500H CPU, 16 gigs RAM. Game installed on SSD as well. Drivers updated.
Big thanks in advance
congestion, if an area is packed good luck getting high frames
I've been considering an ultrawide, but $2k+ is a hard sell
my game is stable 144 capped and if i go to populated areas it drops sometimes down into the 30s
so yeah
(For the G9 Odyssey Neo)
nice hdr monitor
but at 2k might as well get a tv
with good specs
My friend bought one, so maybe I should just bring my tower over and test drive it for a few hours one day
I've tped to my private estate and my fps is about 80. Is fps also going to be down in raids?
that's really the only benefit to the g9 in terms of monitors, good hdr
They make a 49" for like $1200 as well, but I figured I could use it for racing or flight sims then as well
in raids it should be higher
yeah, i originally looked at one just so i had one monitor for my whole desk but man, the price lol
It's pretty dumb because the original G9 was like $1600
The initial sale of the monitors came with a pair of pretty HQ JBL gaming headphones. But that's still a hard sell especially if you already have headphones.
I heard there was $400 off for Black friday
i mean not too many people buy a monitor like that in the first place
it was probably in my newegg email somewhere
Anddd audio has cut out completely, nice.
Fantastic screen with QA issues and too high cost
that's just samsung though sadly atleast for their monitors
Yeah
kpop tax
Yep, that's my concern. Get this giant box, but still have issues with the screen. Friend has 1 dead pixel already so he wants to send it back, but it feels bad the amount of wasted shipping time and expense for it.
The G9 was recalled for QA issues, so they decide to go bigger and harder ... then still have QA issues with the Neo
i hear horrible things about de g9
and ppl are talking even worse about the g9 neo
that's why i bought 2 alienware 3821dw
i want weird advice
i have a shitton of raspberry pi laying around
not being used
is it worth turning them into a cluster
idk what to do with it
hack the pentagon
perhaps
LMAO
... does the passenger window roll down
Can’t log in on ps4 anyone know how to fix this?
How do you pc players using a DualShock 4 keep that thing charged? I have to have it plugged into a micro usb charger and it only stays on if it’s plugged in and doesn’t hold a charge. I don’t wanna have to power on my ps4 and resync the controller just to charge it
You could plug the controller into your pc
Idk about you but my ds4 is always hooked to my computer when I use it
^
even though the usb connector is a flimsy pos
Micro usb*
Thanks
considering my controller never died during my 8 hour play session today
yes
it does
it also charges your phone too if you plug it in lol
this should charge your controller though
i have no idea why, but this link shortener foss server called "Kutt" combined with nginx makes it so when you go to https://domain.com it redirects you to https://https://domain.com. wtf.
when y'all build computers, do you still bother with a CD drive?
hell no
I have one knocking around that I can plug in if I need to, but nah I don't put one in as standard
unless you're ripping CDs and care about them being exact copies with EAC or whatever, just get a usb dvdrw or something
Anyone getting random micro stutters since EW launched? Not sure if ti might be tied to the most recent nvidia drivers either..
The only reason I put one in my old PC was because I got it for free out of a pile of junk at work, and I had a slot that would accept it. A lot of modern cases don't even have drive bays. I never used it anyway
Sorry taking so long, but thank you very much, it works now!
I bought a really fancy case that didn't have any 5.25" bays and wished I had gone with one that did have 5.25" bays.
a lot of my favorite shows are on dvds or blurays and I think physical media is still king for that kinda stuff
tbh if I could buy modern games on disk without them requiring a phone-home to some server, I'd probably buy them on disk too
it sounds silly but I can grab a cd from 20 years ago and play a game on it just fine
guess there's always the possiblity the disk breaks or wears out, but you could clone the disk and keep the original
lookin for a good way to monitor temps of cpu gpu ram and ssd so I can try to pinpoint what is overheating
good news is that it doesn't smell like burnt money
no, if i really need one though i just an external that i can plug in with usb
Yea, since they moved boot devices over to USB that was basically it for DVDs unless you're ripping media
or burning media
Hwinfo64
I replaced the port on the controller side and use a 2 meter reversable cable
the former because the one sony uses will disconnect if you look at it funny
@deep sapphire upgraded my pc, any tips on how to reduce exhaust sound?

Runs good but kinda loud, can't hear myself gaming
i used to get random microstutters
but that was towards the end of ShB
Im getting thsoe, they make it impossible yo dodge shit
Im prettybsure its just the servers though
It cant be my pc
never say can't
but yeah most likely servers lol
It can’t be my pc if it doesn’t happen on other “nextgen” games w ultra settings
There more specific
lol
Sorry
no need to be sorry, just giving you a hard time
anyone here managed to get the haptic feedback to work on pc ? seems to be disabled everytime i turn on mount music
any help for error 90006 every 30sec after login ?
used exitlag but still happen
it happened after we go out from extreme endwalker raid
from 2 hour b4 constantly happen till now
internet is fine , and ping ip is after 1 normal ping then request timed out every 10 sec then normal ping again

@potent arrow lmao
Run a program called winMTR and see where your packet loss is from
Could be at router, could be right outside your gateway or a hop in between
i use amd
Hmm..
Oh I wouldn't recommend amd drivers for an nvidia card!
i wouldn't use amd drivers if i didn't have to
tbf though, this latest update to the drivers is the most stable it's been in forever
last time it was this stable was on my rx 590

People said the previous game ready driver worked fine
I have so many mixed replies.
Some say they haven't updated drivers at all and are also getting the microstutter
So it might just be an issue in EW itself
LMAO
I fell asleep at like 8, woke up at midnight and logged and was like meh, went back to bed

lol
Definetly, got microstutters yesterday, reinstalled my drivers, logged into game again and it went fine but the game started stuttering again but then stopped. Cpu and gpu temperature and usage were relatively normal.
The stutters come and go
Yeah.
Sometimes they even are at the start screen
i haven't had stutters so idk
It could be server related too. At this point who knows? Even my dead grandma is in queue trying to login.

That's your fault for living in Southern Canada
True
And owning a truck.
I’m a mechanic now josh
Do you like paying your entire paycheck for gas?
I gotta fit in with the boys
Yeah no shit
Like 70-80 bucks a fill up and that lasts maybe 5-6 days but I do drive 2 hours total for work
Pumps here shut off at 75. So yoy gotta run it twice to even fill up those bad boys.
Just pump and drive off then. It's only illegal if you get caught.
Lmao Hank the Mechanic.
🔧
You SHOULD be fishing in Ardenweald with Shaun but nooo too busy doing the mechanics creed. Bandaid the problem and break something else intentionally so we have to bring the car back again for both issues.
Mistcaller fight let's goooo
I work on food processing equipment so don’t have to deal with that shit thankfully
Get paid more and less hassle

All Shaun does is fish in xiv
Color me shocked
the best one atleast so far for me
@modern iris Use DX9 for now.
Haha I discovered this channel like a month ago
Yeah he’s an awesome mechanic
Welp getting home from work later will suck

BOING
I live my life on the edge, by using harbor freight spring compressors

Montana?

Eastern Montana is stupidly windy

I’m also Canadian
But in America
Hank do you miss the camry
It was a trooper
Thing ran on hopes and dreams yet never died
Haha
If you got no money and need a car that’s the route you take, I basically did no maintenance on that thing other than oil changes, timing belt and plugs
And it made it to 270,000 miles
Still ran but I wanted to get rid of it
It probably is still out prowling the mean streets
Now I drive a truck made in 1989 : - )
And I can’t buy anything new because you have to wait 2 billion years
What a great time to live in
Just strap a bunch of pillows to your chest same thing
Fun bags
Okay
Nice
Fluid film on the latch/cable
You should be able to open it still if the struts are bad granted you’d probably need a buddy to open it once you popped the latch
I remember on my Camry the fuel door spring kept rotting out lmao I’d have to pit something under the switch to keep the latch open so I could open it
Gotta have someone hold the the switch
since I can't get a straight answer from the internet
out of curiosity, which is better to share a mobile connection, tethering, or hotspot?
Tethering imo
It’ll help keep battery life from tanking, and it’s probably a better signal than hotspot since it’s cabled
Plus it keeps other people from trying to ride off it
I like how they eventually gave up on counties once they reached the NE corner of the state. "Aaand a county here.here.here. Done."
Haha
This damn microstutter is so annoying. lol
can anyone program in c++ assembly code, need help with an assignment
c++ and assembly are two different things
x86 assembly
that was wild, went from 1881 queue to bam logged in
nice, people probably got kicked or dc'd
yeah, started at like 3200, it ticked down to 1881 over about an hour and then in, good times

Not really tech but anyone have any gaming chair recommendations? I know its not gonna be cheap but I also dont wanna pay an arm and a leg for 1
bought one from gtracing for 200€ and it´s awesome
half the price of the other gaming chair companies i saw
Thanks just ordered one for $140, basic red and black
glad to help :3
After the chair comes I might take a look at their desks too
my advice would have been don't buy a gaming chair, instead buy a high quality office chair rated for extended usage
gaming chair vs office chair?
honestly, this, the wageslave thrones are designed to keep you trapped in place for 12 hours at a clip
gaming chairs are designed to look cool and that's about it
ii have an embody and ordered a titan xl 😄
a superman one...
honestly i'd rather have a sofa
annoyingly I don't have the room for a sofaa+htpc+nice big fat 85" tv setup right now
so gaming chair it is 😄
i could probably force it to work
hmm gaming sofa
lol cougar makes a 'gaming sofa' but it's just a recliner
those look uncomfortable
Yeah they look like something gross from the mall lol
Like one of those massage chair booths
Maybe wouldn’t be as bad if that pillow wasn’t there
To be fair recliners are generally ugly 😩
buying "gaming chairs" that will fall apart in 18 months x_X
to be fair, the fake leather on my dxracer did start to fall apart when it was 4 years old
otoh the plastic frame on my embody chair scratches like butter
the fabric has held up just fine though
hmm yep bought that chair in march 2015

odd question but why relaunch the 2060 again like I'm pretty sure given a choice no one would get it (ya I know no one have much of a choice in this days and time and but it feels so wrong)
lesser utilized node so they can hopefully get out more cards since the situation is so bad and or they had leftovers from the 2060 when it first released
that is pretty much the reason
maybe but I hear that card is also a lot better for mining more then anything that sure as hell doesn't help much out minus the fact there also a lack of msrp (not like that matter hell you can sell a old ass card for over $1000 and someone will still get it in this day)
it'll help for mining anyways 🤷♂️ more memory to use to mine for a cheaper cost but that isn't the purpose of the card although it may wind up used that way
ya let's give more cards to the miners then again not like nividia cares when they are making more from them then us anyway
a lot more from them that is
🤷♂️ it'll happen one way or another just have to wait until mining changes to proof of stake
2060 relaunch is definitely not an altruistic move, they've said it's a 'premium product' and will be priced accordingly iirc
“it is a premium version of the RTX 2060 6GB and we expect the price to reflect that.”
because 12gb
yeah, dumbest thing ever
