well
so they have a nice 4k camera that costs $450, but it comes free if you buy the nvr pro for $500
which makes it an OK deal because if you buy that kinda camera from hikvision/dahua/whatever it's going to be $150-200-ish anyway
It’s pricing to make u buy the other products too
even if i didn't consider the camera
$500 for a 7 bay nvr is kinda funny?
like I can see why it uses a little arm and sata and stuff
if they used sas and a proper cpu and ram it'd cost >$1k lol
meh I have high hopes fo rit
in theory this should work as well as nest cameras but without the cloud shit
Price product abysmally, sell product with other product ‘free’ to make it look like good deal, profit
That’s basically how everything is sold these days
yep lol
but unifi cameras are way overpriced
like 2x-3x what you could get a dahua/hikvision/amcrest/reolink for
what tipped me in favor was the newest version of unifi protect can record from those cameras, too. And I haev a bunch of amcrest stuff still
so it softens the blow of switching over a little
Should just stop making non x3d processors period 😭
that's how i feel about it lol
or at least come up with a different name for the not-x3d stuff
7950x is goated tho
ya like
the hard part here is that some of the CPUs are awesome, just not most optimal for running 1 game on
It’s kind of just the same thing as 13-14th gen Intel except
Am5 got more efficient and lga1700 got less efficient
but they might be great for some kinda other computing tasks
anything's better than 11th gen intel 😄
11th and 13th and 14th..
lol
12th seems to be an anomaly
Of recent times
lol
13th and 14th did pretty good until they didn't!
the funny thing is
when i bought my 7800x3d ^ I used that gif a lot as a joke 😄
like hahahha look at this idiot not getting a 13900k
WTF HAPPENED INTEL
how did I end up with the reliable cpu this gen lmao
13900k was mid even before they had issues
7950x ate it up in most tasks
Or 7800x3d for just gaming
I miss stuff like the 12400f
Or the 12900k tbf it stood a lot better against competition
how tedious is it to replace just the motherboard
most other components are plugged into the motherboard directly
it's basically the central nervous system of your PC
so pretty much the most tedious thing to replace
Yep. But how big a deal that is, is up to you.
and also what are you changing the motherboard in
a regular diy pc? It is indeed the most time consuming part to replace, but not the end of the world. A Dell? Fucking Hell.
^ for someone who's done it before lol
the advantage of replacing the mobo in a PC you built yourself is that you were the one who put it in in the first place so you know what to watch out for
also good luck replacing anything if you have a recent high end GPU
GPUs have gotten too bloody big
I want more storage but no fucking way am I taking my 4090 out right now
same
I lost a hdd to a dead sector and my mobo has M.2 slots left but they're behind the GPU
and fuck that lol
its on a vertical mount too so its even worse with how big it is
that's going to take me an entire evening
I needed a second person to get the damn thing in properly the first time
@potent arrow oh btw the Catalina is coming back, a company is going to produce them for private, commercial and military use again
we will have sub hunter catalinas again
THE BLACK CATS WILL RETURN
thoes look noisy af
yes
the new ones will have turbo props
so they will be insanely loud
they're making the new ones on the original US factory for the Catalina
ye when i changed from my 9700k to my 7800x3d, swapping out the cpu and mobo was pretty straight forward. the only thing that took a little time was changing out the bracket on my water cooler.. and even that was pretty straightforward
wait ... the US ones those antiques?
i figured some third world country did lol
no
the Catalina was built globally
its a US design
its why its called the Consolidated Catalina
yes
the Black Cats took Catalina's and where there was a 50 cal they changed it to a twin and some of the Black Cats had a 20mm for the rear facing lower gun
In July 2023 a company called Catalina Aircraft, current holder of the Type Certificates for the Catalina, announced an intent to build the Catalina II, a new aircraft on the basic design principles of the original Catalina but using turboprop engines and other modern aviation tools.[44][45] Deliveries are said to commence by 2029.[44]
ye
it will basically just be a catalina but modernized
the Catalina is still used around the world
they will probably never not be used
same with the grumman goose
so unique are the needs of a seaplane that the ones from WW2 are still adequate today
In this stunning episode of The Driver’s Seat, Henry Catchpole gets behind the unique wheel of a prototype Porsche 911 restomod. This is the REEN Concept RSGT that blends the best of old-school air-cooled RS with the best of water-cooled new-school GT. It does so with four little switches on a custom Momo Prototipo and a 997 GT3 engine in the re...
Just got the LTT messenger laptop bag in the mail the other day. I was apprehensive on buying the small one, but it's almost a perfect fit for my Surface studio laptop
ayyyyyyyy neato
Laptop is 14.4" screen and fits inside the laptop compartment almost exactly (it was probably their test item for fitting the small, honestly)
My only small gripe at first test is it bulges with the power brick. If I had to daily drive it, I would probably buy a 100W GaN charger instead for a smaller footprint.
But that isn't their fault really.
If you have good battery life or can use it on USB-C power somewhere when you get there, you could comfortably fit a tablet and maybe even a notepad inside. I currently have the tablet on the outside sleeve and that works decently even with the power brick, but it's definitely at capacity without feeling like I'm abusing it.
I do want to change my power brick to a 100W GaN but then it uses the olde round AC plug
also it's a 150W OEM brick so um
imo it's nice for a common office laptop w C port charger + tablet
saw some peep on reddit saying the bag may bulge quite a bit w some stuff but then diff people diff load
Dunno how much getting a 150W would help me, as that looks to be the same thickness as the power brick, but probably a size savings for you:
like I just measured my tote bag yesterday, hell it's 6.6kg instead of 5kg as I thought
ya it does help, form factor seems to be the same
Only downside to those gan chargers is you might burn a hole in your bag if you have to stuff it inside on short notice /s
I mean, fair ye
it really does, but only if I have any device need it, currently couldn't replace the laptop AC brick aaaaaa
Size comparison between the 737 ganprime and the new "anker prime" gan3 charger
Looks to be 35% smaller, so 35% hotter? heh
Well, I suppose it's 20% less current with multiple devices plugged in. Even the one on the left says it's only 100W max per port
it should be it ya
actually it ain't that heat up if multi device plugged in but prob depend on load
I have a GaN 65W but only a C port and an A port, it heats up p uhhh if use both port but kinda depend on load
phone is fine, no heat at all but charging my power bank or steam deck, ye defo does heat up
It's all about the amount of current that has to flow through it.
GPUs needing insane coolers bc of the wattage they draw should have taught you that
If not, The More You Know™
I am getting real tired of windows shoving its crap on me
worse is when I turn it off, next update microsoft turns it back on because "what if I changed my mind?"
no I did not
i love paying for a 1gbit connection and actually getting about 5% of that because of some outtage
for 4 weeks
50mbps isn't that bad
50mbps feels awful if you’ve had anything reasonably fast
idk I have 250 now and 50 still feels fine
as long as youre not downloading anything too big
I have gbps and anything less than 100 feels bad and under 50 is particularly annoying
im scrolling social media and i keep having to wait several seconds for images to load because they easily reach 20+mb these days lmao
Cod mw3 130gb
Monday they are installing gigabit internet at my house
lmao nice
I can get gigabit but its 300 bucks a month
That’s nuts
australia moment
the LNP government fucked up our national broadband badly
cos they looked at it and went "hmm great plan but theres not enough privatisation happening"
lol, we do have a small monopoly here. Only 3 providers and only 2 don’t suck
Belgium btw
see we have the worst of both worlds
because it was meant to be a government owned infrastructure project
all the services belonged to this one organisation called the NBN
and then the LNP came in and went "yeah but what if we ran it like a for profit business"
you guys literally live on a giant island with nothing around it and only have 2 coastal populations completely opposite of eachother with nothing between them of course its gonna be expensive
you think copper is free or something
so now we have a monopoly on wholesale services by a government department thats run like a private company
what?
thats exactly why its super expensive in canada
its dense population and then nothing
if I didnt know anything about the nbn rollout in australia I would simply shut up but ok
thankfully satelite internet is getting a lot better
because clearly you dont understand how it happened
cos nobody is running fibre to boganville, population 200
intercity connections and fibre backhauls are also by far the cheapest part of this project too lol
mostly because we already had fibre backhauls between the major cities anyway
F
Well
Internet shouldn’t be a private thing
I pay 20 bucks a month for fiber because it’s price regulated by my city and is seen as a service rather than a good
GeForce RTX 5090 to feature 21760 CUDA cores, 32GB GDDR7 memory and 600W, RTX 5080 gets 16GB VRAM/400W (leak specs) https://t.co/BMAJSGOS5N
"Up To" carrying weight like Atlas fr
My internet has only been down like twice this year
The ISP and line layers are two different entities
Line layer does maintenance regularly and updates stuff
Both times the internet was down they gave us notice
Cause it was maintenance related
Seeing as it’s so good here companies worth tens of billions should be able to figure it out better than a regional isp and a single state based line laying company lmao
RTX 5080 gets 16gb of vram lmao
If the 5070/ti has 12GB again that’s insane
As expected, the 90 is leagues better, probably bc the PCB does double-duty with their AI cards
Holy shit
time to upgrade again hank
I’m gonna just for WoW

Wonder what it’ll cost
well they know people paid like 2200-2500 for 4090s anyway
I can already see the 3k 5090 asus models
Intel might have a not terrible gpu one day..
Once again nothing to make me wanna upgrade without buying used lol
just add more cores, more gibabytes
Game devs need to learn how to use texture streaming if 12gb of vram still isn't enough
It's not the 2010s where SSDs were only for OS drives
Or Nvidia need to do what AMD do and give us reasonable amounts of memory
Meh, software devs get away with hardware performance increases too much
I'd rather have better optimised games
Texture streaming helps but if u want improved graphics then it’s going to use more memory
Ok but clearly most games that "demand" 16gb of vram really shouldn't need it
The games aren’t actually all that bad, the problem is Nvidia giving u 12GB of vram on $800 graphics cards
Why not?
Cos they look like shit lol
??
Which game looks like shit and uses 16gb of vram lol
If any is like that it’s an exception and not a rule
@deep sapphire i would just like to say fuck sony lmao
what do you mean it's not a public specification that you disclose
They have horrible support
this was about their new product too 😭
I can't even give the example because the server has that stupid game on the blacklist
But also TLOU before the texture streaming update
TLOU doesn’t look like shit tho
And u said in the same sentence it’s not an issue now either way
Because texture streaming was implemented lol
They gave a shit and optimised the game post release
And like I said exception not the rule
It’s not on game devs to try and optimise games for hardware that’s been neutered by Nvidia bc they don’t wanna spend $10 more on manufacturing a gpu
?????????
It's not on NVidia to put more vram on their gpu so devs can be lazy when porting games to PC
See how this argument can come back around again?
Yeah and that’s not actually the problem?
It’s not for lazy game devs lol
No it is
@modest moss
It’s so u can actually run games at higher resolution

Must u always be insufferable
it's always chaos
As is most of what u say
I know I am hilarious

ooooh a bigger boss showed up
Gee it's weird to think how we were able to run games at 4k since 2017 without needing 16gb of vram
Reminder that Plague Tale Requiem only requires 6gb at 4k
Add more ???? That makes it even better
Because we want to never innovate and keep games at the same level of graphically fidelity until the end of time
Right..
Yeah uh cos the games that need 16gb of vram are so much more visually stunning
2017 was 7 years ago
Sure, I'm just saying that right now a lot of games seems to use increased processing power as a crutch against poor optimisation
It’s whatever i don’t need to argue with someone so obviously wrong
I'm not against adding more VRAM
U literally started to blame game devs instead of adding more vram lol
Consoles aren't the problem lol
God ^DAMN*
Hold on
I tossed another bag of popcorn in the microwave
please be adults
Idk I'm trying to have a discussion and this guy is just having a go at me
Technology discussion is the best channel
Shitposting
Arguments
Making fun of AMD
we got everything
DELETE THIS
True and based

AMD just better
it's okay, you can't delete my things now
CPUs don’t explode GPUs don’t skimp on vram every generation
They just skimp on drivers team
Not that NVidia is any better these days
Yeah the thing we haven’t had an issue with in multiple years
Intel is the only one with actual gpu driver issues
Or Nvidia on Linux
Well after dealing with their trash ass drivers from the ATI team nvidia drivers have never left my PC hanging
I mean if your understanding of amd comes from 2023 onwards then I suppose you would be right
Actually most of your takes would make much more sense if you only looked at hardware from 2023 onwards

I just don’t believe in hanging onto ancient information to make decision on current products
Because that’s stupid
tbf it's not ancient information, the 5000 series sucked so fucking bad driver wise I USED IT AND SUFFERED FROM IT PERSONALLY
That was over 4 years ago
If I bought a car from a brand and it was a piece of shit why would I buy from that brand again
I had a radeon 7 and a Vega 56
Because unbelievably things can change
Great, not my problem I’ll go with the product that actually has a track record for working drivers
and people aren't upgrading super often so it is still relevant
A mate of mine had a radeon 7 which got so hot that it deformed the vapour chamber
Yeah the 4 years of no driver issues isn’t a track record my bad
GCN 4.0 moment
I don't know why you're taking any criticisms as somehow me saying that it's unredeemably bad
That’s funny that 3 people in the chat right now are telling you we’ve had problems through multiple products they’ve made and you dismiss it
Pay $500 more for a gpu because the other companies one had a driver issue on cards from 6 years ago
Yeah… 5+ years ago?
Again it’s my money I’ll buy what I want
I’m not going to buy a product based on what sucked and what didn’t 5-10 years ago
Look I don't understand why you're taking it so personally lmao
U do that Idgaf what u buy but it doesn’t mean it’s objectively better 😭
Or taking it as if any criticism means it's a piece of unredeemably bad garbage
No ones taking it personally except u guys
Really
Well nvidia has over 90 percent market share so clearly people are voting with their wallets!
Look mate I could not give less of a shit
I'm pretty sure I've gone through more amd GPUs than you have amd products in your whole life
Cos I'm rather enjoying having a discussion lol?
did you wind up buying one btw?
!mute 702574403803807847 3h
No
coward
Shame, X3Ds are actually great cpus
I built my PC before it came out
doesn't mean you can't still buy one
They solved the latency issue by slapping a huge L3 cache on it
I’m not buying a new board and CPU for a marginal uptick in 4K gaming if at all lmao
I’m sure they are good CPUs but that’s just throwing money away
you'd probably get a substantial uptick since you play mmos
WoW runs on a single core with spaghetti programming and addons that give you 300000 lua errors nothing is fixing it
May can I interest you in the W3175X? it only pulls 1200W from the wall and only requires a single stage chiller to keep it cool
I raid with a guy that has a 7800X3D and still hates the performance

does he have a 7800x3d and 4090?
It’s just a terribly optimized game
😭
He does yeah
damn
His family is rich he got that 4090 money

OH YEAH HANK THE IPHONE 16 PRO MAX BATTERY IS TOO GOOD
i basically never need to charge it
iPhone batteries when they are new always seem to over deliver from my experience
Better or worse than a 3310
I mean in all honesty it seems fine? Like it’s not lasting all day but I can use it for most of it
I think it's perfectly reasonable to be cautious and want to wait for real world testing and see how driver stability is etc. when they have a history of not being stable and not getting the drivers right for 1-3 years after a product releases.
yeah, i just wish iphone batteries weren't so expensive otherwise replacing it for the extra performance would be worth it
Bc even 5 years ago the sentiment was "They're great bang for buck... 18 months after release when all the kinks are worked out and the first price drop has happened"
After my HD 5970 went through 3 RMAs and it still did nothing but BSOD I will never buy Radeon again
I bought a cheap 460 to replace it and what a shocker never locked up again
Yeah
Ehh I wouldn't go that far bc tech is finnicky and almost every company has released turds.
eg: IBM was known for having years of rock-solid HDDs until they didn't and released the infamous Deathstars that had 50% failure rate in 6 months
cooking food on fermi
Frying eggs on the 480
thermi was great
Was that not Seagate
playing bad company 2 and the room was all cozy and warm
WAIT ROB YOU'RE NO LONGER A MOD EITHER???
i havent been since... almost a year
i rarely see you and i am rarely here tbf 😭
The IBM Deskstar 75GXP (six models ranging in capacity from 15 to 75 GB) became infamous circa 2001 for their reportedly high failure rates, which led to the drives being colloquially referred to as "Deathstar". Due to this, the drives were ranked 18th in PC World's "Worst Tech Products of All Time" feature in 2006.
Seagate did indeed have their own period of shoddy HDDs
I had dual GTX 580s the room was an absolute sauna
dw most rarely notice me
Oh right the ones that was then Toshiba and later HGST
Yep, after the Deathstars IBM literally sold off their entire HDD division to Toshiba lol
Which is still confusing me to this day why they continue releasing enterprise drives under Toshiba, HGST, and I think a 3rd brand
Toshiba notebook drivers from my experience were the worst but they were usually put in the cheapest notebooks and I’m sure customers dropped them and shit lmao
Drives**
To be fair
We were always having to clone them
2.5" HDDs were all fucking dogshit
Yeah remember the IDE ones in the IBM thinkpads
Eugh
Still use this old ass WD black drive I bought in 2008 as a back up
Still works
cheap ass wd 2.5
night mare drives
those blue ones that were twice the thickness of the black ons
set them on fire
I’ve always found WD drives in general to be okay but as dark said 2.5 drives in general kinda sucked
yeah well idk what people thought making slim mechanical drives was. good idea in a very shock heavy environment
In the late 00s most of them had mechanisms that would immediately park the head if any shock was detected how well that worked is debatable
I fixed so many fuckin HP DV6000s
Most people aren’t going out to buy high end laptops so it makes sense
My dad owned a top of the line Sony Vaio laptop in 2004 thing was a beast
Had a desktop northwood P4 in it
Before compaq turned into a shit cheap brand
Or gateway
The random ass computer company based out in the middle of nowhere where Iowa
Hank i blame you for my feed being destroyed 😭
I don’t watch baseball and i don’t watch vtubers

MagSafe was such a genius idea
i remember there was a lightsaber app for your laptop

The biggest 180 though has to be Dell: They were originally known for requiring a full checklist of fit and finish + benchmark tests before releasing any system to the customer on purchase. Then they decided to sell the cheapest commodity crap imaginable. The only division that didn't succumb to that IMHO was their display division. Although the enterprise laptops are decent enough these days
The old optiplexes from the 2000s were cockroaches I swear they all had blown caps, horrible cooling yet they never fucking died
I’ve worked at some plants that still use those damn things for specialized equipment they never get turned off and just keep trucking along
hot take dell was always shit
… but why is acheron the thumbnail
I dunno who that is
ok but where’s the hot take
Dell monitors are great
just that is's o mean lol
And they typically have industry leading commercial support
Their consumer shit is junk I agree
no their enterprise shit is also shit

their poweredges are like 90s GM products though
Beats HP
they'll run like shit longer than their competitors products will run at all
ngl I don't have any big complaints about my work laptop. only issue is if I hold it at the corner while walking, the case flexes and can cause it to hard reset. But that could be bc I spilled kraken rum into it like 2 months after I got it
but
Hahaha
i bet if you looked at a rack of poweredges
A Chevy will run like shit longer than most vehicles run at all
at least half of those fuckers probably got flashing orange lights
and probably have for years
never forget what we lost
(I JUST FUCKING PUT THAT FAN IN 2 WEEKS AGO)
I’m glad they brought back the old boot chime
but dell laptops are just universally shitty >>
I had my work laptop in my bag and then a full bottle of kraken rum (going to work the 2nd half of friday from my buddies place) but the cap was defective and when sloshing in my bag it spilled out and leaked into mostly the display side of the laptop. So there is still a discoloration in the screen. Using dark mode you basically can't see it, but it's super obvious on any light background.
Just wasn’t right losing that G3 boot chime
like i've had
i've had the displeasure of using a lattitude and a precision and an xps
the xps 13 they really went out on those foldy hinges though
The XPS now is built like total shit and they overheat badly
I have a Lattitude 5520 for work
the funny thing was the chime never actually went away, they just disabled it by default lmao
Yeah I think I read that
the macs that didn't come with the chime at launch, got it back after a software update
iirc some of the xserves don't chime though
but, yea, that chime ... I don't consider a mac that doesn't do it a mac
that chime is how you know you’re still alive
they fucked up their vpn changeover and so I haven't been able to use it in like 3 years
and they still nag me about returning the "underutilized hardware"
"I would use it if you were capable of operating a modern network"
Awesome waffle moment
🤣
a quality #technology-discussion moment
@deep sapphire you see the latest Linux RCE exploit announced today?
It’s a big oof for sure
holy shit
Yea, the lead researcher who found it was apparently originally getting pushback from fedora and Linux foundation about just how bad it really was
thankfully that port isnt really used much aside from maybe local printers
you wouldnt really have that as a front facing port to the outside
@odd sand i know you’ll find this of interest too
Shouldnt have it as outward facing
But… we all know it only takes a few brain cells to do something that stupid
But even then, if a malicious actor can get access into the network somehow, it’s pretty fucked
Like, I write software, I get it, I get how someone can be defensive about the stuff they write, I really do. But holy sh, if your software has been running on everything for the last 20 years, you have a freaking responsibility to own and fix your bugs instead of using your energies to explain to the poor bastard that reported them how wrong he is, even tho he's literally giving you PoC after PoC and systematically proving your assumptions about your own software wrong at every comment. This is just insane.
From his twitter thread a few weeks ago
hmm wouldn't that be a mac problem too, then
GeForce RTX 5090 to feature 21760 CUDA cores, 32GB GDDR7 memory and 600W, RTX 5080 gets 16GB VRAM Coming from Kopite7kimi himself. One of the most reliable NVIDIA leakers has now confirmed the specs for two of NVIDIA’s upcoming Blackwell graphics cards, specifically the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. According to Kopite7kimi, the RTX 5090 […]
huzzah the unifi camera stuff arrived. ssds won't arrive until tomorrow though >>
thing weighs a ton! i'm glad i didn't get hard drives for it. on the plus side it's the size of an oldschool 1980s vcr
i was worried it'd be deeper
oh my
also
eurobeat intensifies
also I'm relieved to see that while the nvr pro has 2 fans on it, I don't actually hear them!
people are saying the 5090 is just gonna be 2 5080 GPUs on an interposer
if true holy shit
even the 4090 struggles with the latest CPUs, this is just getting ridiculous
(by struggles I mean the CPU cant keep up in anything under 4K)
is this like the 6970 X2 all over again
hahaha like a 590?
wait was that the 590
yea THAT one
it was 2 graphics cards with an SLI cable connecting them and sandwiched together
it' funny how quaint it looks by today's standards
what the heck is an interposer
its like a plate that the dies reside on
its much faster for the dies to communicate on it than say a bus
so 2 gpus on a single chip package eh
ohhh so deffinitely not 2 gpus on the pcb lol
I doubt it
that reminds me of a threadripper
unlike CPUs which are usually kinda restrained with their socket size and cant really push the size barriers
GPUs are fuckin huge
well can be

ngl i want one just to have one
fi they can give us 40 pcie lanes again
that was HEDT but it also was the fastest gaming CPUs
in a $500 cpu
please look forward to $2500 for 5090, $1500 for 5080
dude the x58/x79 stuff was such a deal lol
I mean it wasn't but the low end stuff was like
3820 == i7 3770 but with i think 40 pcie lanes?
the i7 920 was a bargain yeah
it was like 230 dollars
and was a hell of an overclocker
ok uh
even with a locked multiplier
ok this bugs me lmao
ubiquiti trying to be apple
this nvr keeps randomly ejecting the empty disk trays lmao
gotta drag it to the trash /s
I finally yeeted my wife's old i7 920 box the other day
haha
they were great chips
it kinda erminds me of the oldschool macs that had motorized floppy disk eject mechanisms
i always thought that was so extra
my 990X bit the dust back in like 2017
apple was like
tossed out a bunch of old PCs that were just lying around, my office is so tidy now
I did like the whole apple bus system where you had the mouse ports on the keyboard itself
that was pretty clever
correct me if im wrong
but I recall the mouse from the 00s macs
if you squeezed the sides
it acted like a right click or something?
lmao
I dunno I heard that one of them you could squeeze and it did something
im gonna look this up
Mighty Mouse’s two other buttons are activated by pressing its Scroll Ball and squeezing its sides
i never had a mighty mouse LOL
i had a couple of pro mouses, in fact I still hav eone laying around
i loved that design though
The Apple Mouse (A1152) (formerly Mighty Mouse) is a multi-control USB mouse manufactured by Mitsumi Electric and sold by Apple Inc. It was announced and sold for the first time on August 2, 2005, and a Bluetooth version was available from 2006 to 2009. Before the Mighty Mouse, Apple had sold only one-button mice with its computers, beginning wi...
The mouse has four functional controls: a left capacitive sensor, a right capacitive sensor, a trackball with a pressure sensor and side squeeze sensors. The track ball enables users to scroll a page or document in any direction, including diagonally. Instead of mechanical buttons, the touch-sensitive topshell (mentioned below) and the pressure-sensing trackball allow the mouse to detect which side is being touched or whether the trackball is being held in.[2][3][4][5]
but the 'ears' on the pro mouse did nothing, they were just there so you could move the mouse without clicking it
yeah so I wasnt crazy haha
ye that 'squeeze the ears and push the scroll nib' thing sounds awful lmao
i thought they made one before the magic mouse where you could right click by just tapping the right side
seems i was wrong
also there's a far easier way to right click than that...
and it still works
you hold the ctrl button on the keyboard when you left click
i always had a hand on my keyboard anyway so i never really cared about having the right mouse button back in those days
yep
all through K12 we only had macs
but minnesota actually cares about education so the schools were usually well funded so they had all the latest and greatest
the swivel imacs when those came out
they had power mac G4s and 5s
of course who couldnt forget the eMac
god awfully slow
that was kinda a weird era for apple when OSX first came out none of their G3 lineup ran it very well but thats all they had
haha
i had a friend who had a g3 imac and then their family replaced it with an emac
i think the g4 imac was basically the same computer minus the crt
they were god awful slow, too LOL
single core g4s were slow af in the early os x days
also I can't get over the irony here
the nvr picked up my amcrest cameras happily. the 3 in vegas show up and work perfectly. the 3 here .... are barely showing any video at all lmao
as beautiful as this is, i'm glad apple finally figured out how to add a right mouse button
@deep sapphire I was looking at a Leatherman on Amazon
Included component what now
huh
buy multitool, get free cocaine included
wtf they mean
🤷♂️
hell yeah!
The Tuthill GT One is a sensational street legal tribute to 1990s Le Mans racing, and only 22 of these all-carbon GT1 homages will be built. Cooler than a GT1 Strassenversion? Possibly.
It’s street legal, and for what’s almost certainly a seven-figure sum, you can have one of the few examples that Tuthill plans to make. But there are a couple o...
cant wait to see these being actually driven
Tuthill usually doesnt sell to the weird collectors and resellers
usually their first batch of cars go to the kind of people who just redline to redline everywhere
Richard Tuthill is a good shop owner as well and only does things he will drive himself
nice
so my unvr pro came with a fan that makes clunking sounds. can't tell if it's the fan being defective or the controller just wants to spin it below stall speed
i requested an rma and they almost immediately approved it and sent me a packing... slip..........
if they think imma pay to send their like 40lb defective box back
they can eat shit!

On June 11th, 2024, we discovered a set of vulnerabilities in Kia vehicles that allowed remote control over key functions using only a license plate. These attacks could be executed remotely on any hardware-equipped vehicle in about 30 seconds, regardless of whether it had an active Kia Connect subscription.
I thought Watch_Dogs was supposed to be a cautionary tale not the blueprint for the future
yas i am
in love with unifi protect lol 😄
the recording playback ui is THE SHIT
it's just like the nest camera ui except without the $15/mo fee
It’s super nice
I wish the cameras were a bit more affordable
I need to get a big poe switch and some cameras for the move
;.;
@deep sapphire
The best-known ASC/McLaren program is undoubtedly the Buick GNX. Buick Grand Nationals arrived at the ASC/McLaren shop, and there they received a comprehensive upgrade that resulted in one of the most thoroughly badass machines of the 1980s, basically Darth Vader on basket-weave alloys.
That’s a great way of describing the GNX

these are pretty rare yeah
they wanted to use the GNX 3800 in the GMC Syclone but Buick wasnt making them anymore
i'm trying not to do that lol 😄 my setup is deliciously jank
currently suppository udm <-> cheap netgear switch <-> nvr pro over copper ethernet 😄
I mean it's fine
9900x3d especially needed that
Could actually be viable for mixed usage at the pricing they used before
I wonder what else they’ll do to it because they’re supposedly was some talks of them doing something more major with vcache
I'm down for guinea pigging 9900x3d
probably severe overkill but where's the fun in a safe build
(relative to something that I can't afford [9950x3d)
since x870 supports cudimm I kinda want to see that more to be honest since ddr5 1:1 memory speed has been kinda hit or miss
When Europe produced hot hatches in the 80s it was cars like the Renault 5 Turbo and the Ford Fiesta XR2 – great cars that took the regular hatchback and added more power and better brakes. Over in Japan Honda took a different tack. They crafted a new, very low drag shape for the existing Civic. They also removed a lot of weight. Together with a...

i wonder if the miata still uses oldschool hydraulic steering
or if it uses ephs or something else
hmmm
what the hell ubiquiti lol
added the doorbell thingy to protect and it doesn't notify my phones when I hit the button 😄
in theory i must be missing a setting somewhere
👀
my firefox
how much ram do you have
Chrome and most other modern browsers will use more memory if it’s available
You don’t really need to worry if you launch a game or something windows will manage the utilization of what needs it most
^
I was playing a game that used a lot of ram while I had 16 gigs
I was at 90-95%
and everything worked fine
windows is shit
but its also smart about some other things
i hope the 5000s wont catch fire this time around but i doubt it
cant wait for the 1999 pricetag
thats kinda shit advice unless you want to watercool it. but eventhen its shit advice because different brands give differently long warranties etc
but it is true that super expensive models are rarely ever worth it
my gigabyte aero was one of the cheaper models
1 tier higher than cheap-ass shit like the ventus models from msi
in price
but much better cooling
like
the cheap models were
1030
and the gaming OC/aero OC were 1100
70 more for a better peace of mind and better cooling
Unused RAM is wasted RAM
Prefetch my beloved, etc
what stupid parts did you buy ice
but
uh
never mind
you have perfectly good fans and case
If it follows the trend of this gen it won’t be much better but the 9900x3d might be worth buying more
Should be faster now u have both CCDs with the cache unlike the 7900
Leaks say the 9950x3s and 9900x3d should do
Unlike the 7000 series
I don’t think the 9950x3d is going to be worth it either way
9900x3d maybe
U might as well get the 7950x3d cheap if that’s what u need
Would be way more than adequate for gaming either way
And probably cost $200 or more less lol
7950x3d is almost $200 under what it was at release rn I think
It retailed for $700 and it’s like $450 now
9950x3d is potentially gonna be the same or more while the 7950x3d gets cheaper
Bc you’ll likely have the same gaming performance with the 9950 or 7950 and a similar performance elsewhere judging by the normal x model
I’d hope so
Ice acting like he cares about money
So long as Intel fixed their manufacturing processes for it lol
I’m sure even they know if they do another 13/14th gen people will start to get annoyed and AMD is already taking up more customers from the current issues
One day I’d like to have a mid range cpu that has benefits from overclocking again as well
the 2500k days are gone I think
I just content myself with turbo and be done with it
To be fair I’d rather we had AM5 CPUs where they just come as efficient as they get and u don’t have to OC and test stability for hours
But I’d like the option to anyway
Sandybridge was one of the most legendary processors ever made
I don’t think they will ever have anything that can top its status
The fact you could overclock it to 4.6 GHz and have it still relevant even today is insane
the good ol days 😔
Even more recently things were still better
Up until 9th gen and then 12th gen is cool but started to become unreasonable with how much power it draws anyway
Like I know someone with a 12900k that outperformed most CPUs u could buy still but it was already drawing over 200w stock under load
An overpriced 920
Keep the water cooling overclock the 12900k get most of the way to owning a 7800x3d if ur lucky
Minus the performance bonus in games that benefit from large amounts of 3D vcache
waffle you ever seen his water cooling setup? :3
he could overclock that 12900k to the moon lol
icehunter's rig had a custom loop with 3x120mm radiators
I’ve seen but presumably if ur even considering upgrading u don’t overclock
Which I do think is stupid with any custom loop
U can squeeze more than enough out of a 12900k
I’d just wait another year to upgrade lol
yea i don't disagree
with desktop parts i usually like upgrading every 3-5 years or so lol
@deep sapphire i'm thinking of replacing the radio unit in my escape with a media receiver, any brand recommendations? I'm seeing nods towards kenwood or jvc so far
whatever the point is where there's enough new shiny doodads to make me wanna upgradfe
most of the cheap chinese brands on amazon arent worth it but are much cheaper
off the top of my head i'd recommend a sony
sony, JVC and kenwood are all good brands
so you cant go wrong with any of them
pioneer as well
yea, i'm seeing anywhere from $200 to $500 with what BB has online for my car
does that include installation
nah, just the unit itself
check amazon and see if its competitive
should look at crutchfield to make sure what kinda adaptors nad junk are probably needed
most do have free installs though iirc
500 for a head unit is kinda tall order
idk 500 for a decent one with wireless carplay/android auto isn't unheard of
yeah this, most cars follow the same standard but ofc GENERAL MOTORS didnt
heh how old is the escape?
'14
is it a double din unit?
yea
oh boy
yeah check if it uses the universal standard
watch out
i already know i'm spending ~200 on additional hardware to replace
adapters arent expensive but you will have to crimp the wires yourself
which is why i'm fine being slightly cheaper
but for this i will absolutely refuse to use amazon
i'm not getting no-lubed by some scammer selling fuckin sand in a box and having to fight amazon for a refund
thats fair lots of counterfeit bullshit on there
random shit i dont mine being chinesium? sure, i'm not spending a lot on it for that reason
as kyanche said make sure its fully compatible and doesnt require a wire harness adapter
but quality stuff like this? i want to know i'm getting my money's worth
cause if it doesnt its pretty simple pull the center console dash out and remove a few screws
and remove the back connector
almost gauranteed to need an adaptor if the bundle kits on RA are any indication
but for decade old car i cant complain that much
well most automakers have standardized the din connector
since the late 90s
but you cant be too sure
honestly
could just hit up ebay and probably find a $300 chinese kit that does wireless carplay/aa
idk how long it'd last though lol 😄
rather not use something that might have an equal chance of setting my car on fire
anywho, time to head back to work
It’s a common price but not worth that
Sony has a good one for like $250 iirc
Nvm it’s like $300
Still
Cheaper than what pioneer is selling
Sony AX1000 is what I was gonna buy bc it’s cheap here
It’s not particularly nice but it does everything it’s meant to do
does the ax1000 do wireless?
but yea I agree on the sonys
iirc they also regularly go on sale
when I had my jk jeep i was planning to get one of those lol
tbh I might still eventually swap out the 8.4" uconnect radio in my jeep for one of those. I hate the 'connected' stuff
stellantis thought it'd be cool to send me full screen ads that I have to click dismiss on
Yeah AX1000 was like £180 here or smth lol
Idk if it’s worth the $250 or whatever normally
Depends on ur expectations
Personally I only care that it does the job and not how fancy it is
So long as it’s responsive and not super ugly
I hate not having maps without my phone in a holder
also kinda $$ but I do prefer units that have a map built in because
well I guess it doesn't matter if you have wireless carplay/AA
Yeah
but if you don't, it's nice to have a map on the screen
Im probably gonna get that as the next thing for my car
and even then my experience with carplay is that my phone randomly doesn't know which way it's facing
They’re always terrible from my experience
I’d rather just use my phone in a holder at that point
also one thing I don't like in carplay is the maps don't show the speed limit unless you have a route going
Which is what I do rn but it’s not convenient
Uhh pretty sure it does if u use google maps
it doesn't!
Oh well
it might just be a carplay thing
I just always set a route tbh
i use google maps by default LOL
Habit from using my phone
yea I don't, I like just hopping in and going without worrying about it
I need to see the limit bc I can’t see signs in bushes here
but I guess that's also why I like having a map on screen
if I'm going some place I'm not too familiar with, I tend to just remember the address and the general area surrounding it
But people get pulled over for looking like they’re using their phone when it’s for maps in the car
Which is a pain
this also kinda goes back to the whole experience using navigation
it feels more stressful lol
the whole time I can see ETA and distance and shit
and if I'm falling behind the estimate, which I almost always am
and then finally I get where I'm going and I can't quite make that turn because of traffic, or I need to get into a parking garage half a block away
and my phone starts blowing up with
IN 300 FEET, MAKE A U-TURN
MAKE A U-TURN NOW
Lmao
IN 28 FEET, TURN LEFT
and I'm like pulling into a parking garage and trying to talk to the security dude or whatever
I just check it whenever I can and remember directions
and my phone is still there telling me i should make a u-turn across 4 lanes of los angeles parking lot traffic
I don’t wanna be told 7 instructions in a row at a big roundabout either
yea xD'
It just gets unnecessarily confusing
that it does
We have a lot of like 4 lane roundabouts here and it drives me crazy
i also dislike the routes it gives anyway, sometimes they're way... more.... -shakes hands around head-
like the "make a u-turn in this area where nobody ever makes u-turns because it's dangerous AF"
or "take this street with a stop sign every single block instead of the main street because it'll save you 27 seconds"
the navigation built into cars is much funnier
in my old jeep it pretty much always told me to take the freeway, like 99% of the time, even if the freeway was a parking lot
even if the freeway added 3 miles to the trip
It also leads to being stuck in traffic or closed roads too often
Old ones not updating for roadworks is a real pain
buy a 454 radiator from the junkyard there
even includes an oil and trans cooler built in
Most decent b650 boards with wifi come with 2.5g 2-3 m.2 and 6 sata
And bluetooth
Assuming u wouldn’t get a micro atx one anyway
All the ATX ones will have that
mATX ones maybe not
There’s some good matx ones that don’t cost much
Out of the more expensive ATX b650 boards probably the MSI tomahawk, b650e riptide, or b650 aorus elite AX
They’ve all got very good vrms and 3 m.2 with 2.5gb
And4-6 sata
Not sure whether u can use all of the m.2 slots and all the sata ports for all of those boards tho u would need to check
Hey yall, Im not sure if this is the place to ask but is there any documentation on high GPU usage over time for this game?
When I do a fresh restart of the whole PC, I can run the game perfectly fine 1440p 144fps max setting etc etc on a 3080
but over time, probably after 20-30 minutes, it dips down to 100s-110s
Confused on what it could be
Im just chillin in front of my house in shirogane to test this
Ehh
They’ve been cheaper than that without special deals
Before
I’d wait for the 9800x3d and see what happens
It’s actually cheaper to buy the 7950x3d rn in Canada lol
It’s $799
That’s fun
Actually a much better deal at that price than the 7800x3d lol
Tbh I think it’s better value just bc there’s no justification for a $560 7800x3d
I wouldn’t buy either rn tho
There’s no way the 7950x3d and 7800x3d stay that price
Not in stock for the 7800
U either cant get one
Or they’re like 90% above what they should be
People buying these instead of a 5700x3d are insane
The 5800x3d is like 3% faster and $150 more
That’s
Interesting
Idk why anyone would do that
Long screw to mount fans on both sides I understand but
Lmfao
finally an air scrubber for my room
my room is right next to the garage so I have to clean my pc twice a week :)
I didnt clean it on monday and its got like
an auto shops worth of dust in it
All ram is gonna be the same stuff anyway
Just hope u get SK Hynix stuff bc no one knows who uses what still afaik
And dealing with memory instability on ddr5 platforms is annoying
No we do
Overclocking forums are full of information on which sticks uses which dies
You just don't know where to look
I haven’t seen any definitive list for everything yet
Yeah ok keep being unnecessarily aggravating lol
Lmao
