i thought you wanted a tacoma
I want a lot of things
but
the TRD Pro doesnt come out until like June
I dunno if I wanna wait that long
and come out in june means you probalby wouldn't be able to get one until 2025
I'll get the cybertruck
yeah probably
and toyota is notorious for dealer markups
actually scratch that, JAPANESE AUTOMAKERS in general are
i mean any car company
The GR Corolla wasn’t bad after the first month surprisingly
any car company
Nobody buying a GR Corolla is gonna have fun in it after they payed BMW M3 or 911 prices for a Toyota
they introduce something more desirable than a stale loaf of bread, they mark that shit up and make it a pain in the ass to buy
I thought GM and Ford said to cut the bullshit or they would punish dealers
Ford needs to knock it off
Ye
Ford actually did strip like two dealers
after the bronco and the maverick and the lightning trucks
they basically ruined their chances
like ya know how many people would've bought one of those 3 things if they weren't marked up to the moon!?
GM literally axed a dealer cause it bought a fuck ton of Hummer EV’s for way above sticker to flip for like half a million or more
I mean
They were trying to get 750k for one
The Maverick and Bronco are fine now for pricing
they werent even the full bronco it was the fuckin bronco sport
a bunch of people joined the jeep forum and were like "I had a bronco on order but xx happened"
a fuckin
4 door broncos are way inflated
for some reason, the grand cherokee has always been a unibody jeep and that was ok
The Bronco sport is actually awesome
like the grand cherokee, I think, was actually the first "crossover suv" to exist
GOAT works really well in it somehow
Surprisingly good off road, but my mini was also the same way
Two door bronco with the manual in crawl gear kinda goes crazy
The amount of torque in crawl is very unnerving lol
Ford is never awesome
It’s basically what you get in an aftermarket purpose built transmission but in a production truck
Hold on adding a rule #technology-discussion
Yes
Cannot say good things about ford
Oh :(
Alright set and done
You…
chevyvyyyy
What about the model T Hank :(
What’s about it none of us were alive
It’s cool
You can snap your wrist starting it
A little cheap on the inside but it’s American
I don’t think it looks good
I don't like the grille -_-
It’s. An car.
like bruh I like me some cadillacs
But it’s. An Cadillac. So. It’s slightly nicer An Car
and I like the weird ass tail light treatment
and the front end.. it's.. it almost works...
yea i've never sat in one so I can't comment on the interior
i don't see anything horribly offensive about it
the current design language is... idk man
but gm interiors usually feel good and the design is ok
I love how they have car play showing but they just said car play wont be a feature going forward
yea that's lame
i imagine that will cost them a lot of sales
ya know, I only have wired carplay and I can't be bothered to plug my phone in every time I go for a drive, but when I use navigation I always do
because typing an address into the dashboard fucking sucks
Just modded my 2DS! :3
Cute 2ds
does the 2ds have some advantage over the 3ds
Wider grip on that’s about it
2DS is designed for younger kids who are gonna be more abusive of it AFAIK.
Without the hinge it's more durable that way, although overall it does feel quite a bit cheaper than the 3DS. Feels like some dollar store toy almost lol
yea i mean it was cheaper than the 3ds by a fair bit
like almost half the price sometimes lol
i think the 3ds were usuall around $150 and the 2ds around $89
the 2ds also only has 1 lcd in there and there's plastic covering up parts of it lol
LOL really that's how they do it? Nice.
Yeah the 2DS definitely feels like a toy, I have both my N3DS XL and I prefer the 2DS
The New 2DS XL was the best iteration of the 3DS
I really liked my 2DS XL for a short time but the loose hinge on mine drove me nuts
It felt way too cheap and poorly made. I feel like if I had to choose, It would be a 3DS/2DS or just the N3DSXL
I was really careful with mine too, I have no idea how the hinge became so loose
the "new 3ds" marketing was soooo bad lol
it made the Wii U marketing almost sound sane
The following table contains 15 known video games exclusive to the "New" Nintendo 3DS family of handhelds: the New Nintendo 3DS, the New Nintendo 3DS XL, and the New Nintendo 2DS XL.
Games on this list will not run on the original 3DS hardware family, due to needing the improved hardware of the "New" line.
This list does not contain Super Ninten...
there were games that only ran on New 3DS units
I imagine this was where they fired their product lead
I got two of them for $50 each refurbed from Nintendo a couple years ago and the first thing my nephew did was drop it on the wood floor bc he wasn't holding it tightly enough
They've somehow managed to avoid cracking the screens on their ipads though bc of the foamy kids cases for them
So I bought Sony XM5 earbuds and it's a step up from my old AirPods Pro
there was a small discount too
I just got some Soundcore sport earbuds for biking and such since I lost one on my trip to japan from my old set
Sounds like Apple
Dunno why everyone is all over them still when they charge so much and are so anti-consumer
$300 for 256gb of flash storage whatadeal
Really, the only game I could see that absolutely needed the extra power was Xenoblade 3D. How they got that working on 3DS is. Probably black magic.
The SNES games were just an incentive to upgrade.
Well that, and Minecraft.
The nub was nice.
apple isn't that anti-consumer, though. I mean, some of the time yes, some of the time no.
remember what phones were like before apple started selling them? :3
even now, there are "carrier branded firmware" packages for android phones sometimes
I remember not all that long ago when you would buy an unlocked pixel from google, in order to use it on T-Mobile with wifi calling and/or VoLTE you had to install the t-mobile firmware, which introduced the startup logo and t-mobile jingle when you turned the phone on
and t-mobile mandatory apps you can't uninstall
all that lovely shit that apple gave the mobile network companies the middle finger to
that was very pro-consumer
the way they provide the latest version of iOS on 6 year old iphones is also very pro-consumer imho
but I won't disagree, some things they do feel very anti-consumer lol
That has everything to do with Tmobile as a carrier tho. There is no reason they couldn't have supported it as long as it supported the correct bands
The latest version on old phones bc they're the only vendor of iphones and they want to slow them down to drive ppl into buying another iphone
They had to be legislated tooth and nail into allowing 3rd party repair of their devices, and even then they still make it super hard to do anything with them bc of the glue, proprietary screws and tools, etc. They solder everything onto them so you can't upgrade storage or memory so you have to pay their inflated prices
In many cases you can't even cobble together other apple devices bc the serial numbers of the various pieces don't match up, so it complains or bricks itself.
Slow charging unless using an official apple lightning cable (which are also designed like shit so they break near the connector super easily)
Won't support RCS bc they know it causes strong impetus of vendor lockin with ppl to not be a green bubble etc.
Only going to USB-C after being forced by the EU
yeaaa
it's more than I feel like arguing about lol 😄
and I won't deny I think they do anti-consumer stuff as well
I used to be a big Apple fanboy up thru the ipod days etc. but as one might expect, ultimate power, ultimately corrupts or something like that. Similar story to Blizzard.
for better or worse, I think of MacOS as an OS made for people to use, and Windows as an OS for corporations to track and manage their employees with.
and I still think MS teams was the perfect example of that
especially in day-to-day usage at work lmao
macOS largely feels like an after-thought by Apple and IMHO wouldn't be relevant at all if not for being built on FreeBSD, so you can do linux-type things with it
it has ever since iphones caught on x_X
They've abandoned any attempts at enterprise. I guess the only thing they've kept up is their dedication to creatives with art support
and also I hate their pompous attitude towards people who use their computers that aren't "creatives"
scientists and engineers everywhere love using their shit
but every. single. fucking. promo is all about video editing and maybe music production
fuck everyone else
I'd say simply bc it's "Linux with a mainstream friendly wrapper"
it used to be
Well sure, bc that's the only things it has going for itself. Otherwise you can buy it to use for Youtube and writing essays or whatnot like any other device
the current versions of MacOS feel like linux with a mainstream friendly wrapper... and a lot of duct tape and hot glue
for better or for worse, the 'designed to be managed' thing lets you do things with windows that are just not possible on a mac lmao
like the last idk how many revisions of MacOS
When I was last in classes a bunch of ppl had $2000 MBPs taking notes, and there I was with my $200 Tab A with a keyboard connected to it
you can't delete the default applications that come with the OS because they're baked into a read-only filesystem image
there's no way to modify said image and have a bootable computer lol
.Net Core works on macOS, but I'm not sure how much it can do compared to the regular Windows Powershell
I don't see there being any blame per se, bc Windows is a different ecosystem compared to linux/bsd
in principle I'm not a fan of ARM macs...
if you thought MacOS felt like an afterthought, lmao, what about the hardware
oof
I still cringe whenever I think about the new mac pro
I like their recent marketing for the new macs where it's useless metrics bc there is no comparison to wtf a Compute core or Graphics core is equivalent to
they're phoning it in so hard lmao
it's funnier still because afaik if you're buying a low end mac, the m1s are still the way to go
TRUST ME BRO! +50% MORE WIZZBANGS AND +30% FASTER ARTWOOPS IS AWESOME!
because all they've done with the m2 and m3 is continue to nerf shit
to improve product differentiation
I think it’s super fucking cringe that Apple thinks 8GB of unified memory is acceptable
like the base model 13" mbp m2 is worse than the m1
and afaik the m3 is worse than the m2 except in gpu performance
I hope Qualcomm is able to shake things up. Their presentation looks impressive, but we'll see when the devices are actually on the market.
-shruuug-
Do you know what I'm talking about?
I do
I haven't really bothered to read about it though, but I remember seeing an article about it
TLDR is: Performance comparable to or exceeding the M2 Max, going to be in some ARM-equipped laptops in the next 6-12 months
Using Win11 ARM afaik
So that's also a big question mark on if the OS shits the bed or not
https://www.xda-developers.com/microsoft-advanced-windows-settings-panel-mockup/
GREAT! Now we'll have 3 places to change settings!
Advanced Windows Settings: Now with Regex!
so a shitty version of group policy editor but there's not much to edit that's useful
a cd player 😮
o.o
I bet you'll still need regedit for half the stuff
@deep sapphire China confirmed using AMD graphics cards
Lmao
This is "Cerabyte - Inside the Monolith" by cerabyte on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.
expected capacity is 10,000 TB
Think of all the porn you can store
too cinematic of a trailer, I don't trust it
music that sounds like it's straight out of a Christopher Nolan movie
oh it's ROM
I'm curious what practical uses this has
logging obviously, but it seems like an expensive solution for that
probably replace tape backup for datacenter scale weeklies
yeah but why would you use this over tapes
although maybe a solution like this scales so well that it becomes competitive with what you need to back up a really big datacentre
corsair doesn't make a white 10-key keyboard do they
(that's also wireless)
God fuck Corsair boards
how much of an improvement even is nvme m.2 ssds (specifically pcie gen 3) over sata ssds
specifically in regards to booting windows
ik theres a noticeable difference when moving files between things but not much elsewhere
Hard to say. In absolute% it may be considerable, but going from 45secs on HDD to 12secs on SSD and then from 12 to 6 for NVME isn't going to be as noticeable, for example.
A lot of boot time is dependent on the motherboard/BIOS, and not the time Windows takes actually loading.
I built my parents a barebones Windows system in 2012 when Win8 first came out. No frills micro atx board, and so when set to fast boot it could go from a cold boot to the login screen in like 2-3 seconds on a Core i3 dual core. (Had a SATA SSD in it)
is the difference between them noticeable for game load times
not really?
your biggest gain will be going from HDD to SSD
but SATA SSD to NVMe SSD is fairly negligible
will there be a difference? sure, but I highly doubt it'll be very noticeable, if it's noticeable at all
especially since you'll also have to take in to account your GPU and CPU
Probably not unless you have a very high end CPU, and even then kinda meh
Bc loading is only half the equation bc the other half is the CPU processing the data that's being loaded
^
Which is why I haven't been jumping at getting a PCIE5 ssd bc it doesn't matter for gaming, at least not until more games support direct storage
..."direct storage" sounds vaguely familiar
but I doubt I've heard it in more than just passing
what ive gathered from this info is i should save a few bucks and just get another sata ssd instead of an m.2
okay
so
I went through this the other day
m.2 slots on a motherboard can be NVMe or SATA
which means you don't need to get a regular 2.5in SATA SSD
you can get an m.2 SATA SSD and it won't have to be NVMe
what motherboard and drive were you thinking about picking up?
You can get a regular PCIE3 NVME as the price diff between them is negligible at this point. I'm not even sure if you can find an SSD that fits in M.2 slot that isn't nvme anymore unless buying very old stock.
i have an asus b450 prime plus or whatever its called
the nvme ssd i was lookin at is the samsung evo plus 1tb or whatever its called
if i get a sata ssd instead it wont be the m.2 slot itll be a 2.5"
A couple things that can matter are: Get TLC instead of QLC if you do frequent writes to it, like for a laptop or something. And one that has DRAM cache will perform better than ones without
QLC drives only get like 300 writes per block or something
That's a decent one, but might want to check specific pricing on similar models bc Samsung pricing has been all goofy the last year or so. eg: 980, 980 Pro and 990 are all the same price or cheaper than the 970 evo plus atm.
Just be sure to update their firmware when you get them, as there was some issues for some of them. But the drive magician tool Samsung has makes that painless. Also great for copying your OS install to it so you don't have to reinstall windows etc.
got the usermanual for your mobo
and if I'm reading it correctly, the m.2 slot is just a regular SATA M.2
it won't support NVMe
this means NVME
so it supports it
itll be PCIE 3.0 speeds
instead of 4.0 speeds, but still, supports NVMe
my bad
I thought PCIe 4.0 x4 was NVMe and 3.0 x4 was SATA
PCI-E is directly attached to the CPU, SATA is still controlled by the southbridge
you will see a performance benefit from using NVME
if that slot is nvme, then why is it blocking Sata 5/6?
Decent motherboard?
afaik they're fine. but I haven't checked am5 motherboards in a while. I have an x670e carbon myself
looks like it only has 2 nvme slots
Generally if you have multiple nvme slots, the main one(s) are pcie only and the last one has overlap with SATA so it can accept sata or nvme M.2 SSDs AFAIK
If you only have 1 on the board, then it makes sense it would have that SATA overlap. Shouldn't really be an issue though, as nearly all modern builds only use 1-2 of them.
CPUs break out pcie lanes for many functions , one being SATA, so those ports would share those PCIE lanes
If you check chipset block diagrams, you'll see some SATA ports direct connected to the CPU, which have the option to be pcie lanes, so that's why
There are some on the chipset side as well, but can't be used for nvme afaik, only sata or more pcie slots
it depends on the motherboard, but I think usually the sata are connected to the PCH (platform controller hub - aka 1 chip "chipset" hehe). The PCH also usually provides PCIE lanes!
Very often, the topmost NVME port on a motherboard uses the CPU PCIE lanes. The ones below it use PCH lanes.
One thing that I'm still not 100% clear on, is newer CPUs offer pcie 4.0 or 5.0. In that case, a "lane" offers significantly more bandwidth.
but afaik a lane is a lane, so if a nvme wants x4, then it's using 4 lanes whether or not you have pcie 3.0, 4.0, or 5.0
anyway, a typical CPU has 20-24 lanes. A cheap video card might only use 8. Most video cards use 16. Your PCIE nvme probably wants 4. If you put it in the top slot and have a dgpu, you'll use your 20 lanes.
TL;DR: Usually your motherboard manual will explain what works best.
also TL;DR: In order of biggest performance impact to smallest (my guess):
sata hard drive -> sata SSD
sata SSD -> nvme ssd (any speed, any connection)
pcie 3.0 ssd on PCH pcie lanes -> pcie 4.0 ssd on CPU pcie lanes
nvme on PCH pcie lanes -> nvme on CPU pcie lanes
I think you might be able to set how many lanes it uses in BIOS, but don't quote me on that
yep! depends on the motherboard/chipset though
sometimes motherboards have a pcie switch inside of them, too. Then you can use more pcie lanes than your cpu really has 😄
(I'm surprised we don't see that kinda thing more with pcie 5.0 now)
I think there is a noticeable difference between nvme and sata ssds, but the other reason I prefer nvme drives is less cables in the case 😄
but the tradeoff is it's harder to yank a nvme out of the computer
and we're still not good nuff to be mentors
wait there is a phone with Hasselblad stuff in it huh
wild
500 dollars too
is OnePlus even a good brand?
Uh
Idk where they are now
They were a good option for a price point lower than samsung or apple for a while
Then they pushed into that price tier
Idk now
The OnePlus co-founder started the Nothing brand
I have the nothing 1 and it's pretty good
I honestly don't use it much so my opinion on the camera is limited to it isn't shit
ok fair
for Apple you have to pay a pretty significant premium for the actually good camera
so if I can get something equal for less than a base iphone thats fine by me
https://www.oneplus.com/us/10-pro this was the phone I was looking at
Why does my game almost always minimizes whenever I open a tab on my second monitor
is it because of my game resolution?
If the game is set to full screen it will do that. You need to use Windowed Fullscreen if you don't want that to happen
I believe technically speaking there is less command latency and chance of tearing with regular fullscreen, but it does have that downside when tabbing out
yeah that's why I do that
extra helpful as a rdm main
Intel says competitors are selling half-truths by introducing Zen2 in Ryzen 7000 stack An aggressive Intel campaign is aimed at the AMD Ryzen brand. Intel released a slide deck titled “Core Truths,” positioning it as a playbook designed to inform customers about the nuanced reality behind the latest CPU technologies. The presentation appears to...

they took it off their website already
thats fuckin hilarious
they aint wrong but they cant talk either
oneplus is decent, but the hasselblad stuff is just marketing. the cameras aint that great
"Core Truths"
Maybe a truth they should accept is that 350W CPUs have no place for the tiny advantage they can offer in performance and that they ended up being the bulldozer they made fun of?
Most unfortunate
Tbf Hasselblad has never made a non medium format camera since the digital age came in
So I’m assuming it’s just using their proprietary software cause they use Sony sensors in their cameras anyways
honestly i hate oneplus for taking photos because of how they force you to use their shitty AI to "enhance" the pictures, which often ruins the look
except when you enable the "pro" mode, but then you have to adjust every setting with complete ass touchscreen radial menus
why should intel accept that truth when all gpu manufacturers have been doing the same for 2 generations now
they're all in that leaking boat together
Wth
Nvm then
honey get ready it's time for your 650w gpu refreshes for a 5% performance gain
Just gonna buy a 5000 dollar hasselblad instead
I have a camera
I’ve taken some pretty nice pictures with it
But my phone is dying and pictures matter a lot to me so I’d like to take nice pictures all the time
better off with a pixel or iphone then tbh
I know Sony has the Xperia Pro that has a full size camera sensor in it
Expensive af tho
Think even now they’re still like 1100
I could buy 6 ford 302 blocks for that much money
BUT BUT BUT AI
AI IS THE FUTURE
AI fixing photos is like. Pretty normal and has been for a minute
But forcing it is very questionable
i cant even control the settings for the AI on my oneplus nord
Thats because the AI is smarter than us
Thats why AI generated waifus have 6 or 4 fingers
1" sensor o_O geez
Ye
The photos are pretty raw out of it tho
So they don’t look fantastic, plus no lenses obviously
Some editing makes them look really nice
I am not sure I want to hear about core truths from a company that makes a desktop CPU that consumes as many watts as a workstation threadripper cpu

yea core truths: the 13900k and 14900k are embarrassing
also OOS turned to shit after the merger
so smart that they don't have imaginations and can only create from existing things
The 13900K is okay, the 14900K is the real wutaburger
13900KS lmao
Let that thang drink the liquid hydrogen
What was it recently that got to 2000 watts?
Some overclockers were messing with GPU’s and got one to pull like insane levels of power
The KS is literally just a binned chip meant for extreme overclocking
Anyone who doesn’t do that is an idiot for buying one
idk. When I was buying my new mobo/cpu, I was like "this time I am finally getting an i9"
and then I saw the thermals on the 13900k
and was like fuck that
I don't really monitor it that closely. I just have a 360mm and call it good nuff
When I built it, DDR5 was still expensive, and AMD wanted fuck-you prices for the motherboards, so I stuck with Intel
I refuse to spend $500+ on a mobo with features that would have been $200 just a few years ago. And 32gb of DDR5 at the time was also like $300
So I was gonna be in for like $1200 just for CPU/ram/mobo if I went with AMD at the time...
Nvidia's penchant for redesigning its GPUs to get around US export restrictions has seemingly been directly called out by the US Commerce Secretary, with a warning that when such redesigns are created "I'm going to control it the very next day."

so they get one day to ship it to China
Can someone walk me through reseating/repasting my cooler
you have to start by unscrewing it from the motherboard
making sure that you untighten the screws at similar rates
so that you don't put a lot of pressure on one side of the CPU
Step 0: run your CPU hot before going to take the cooler off
once you have fully removed the cooler, you wipe off what's left of the paste
oh whoops
Meara has more experience with this than me, I believe
what are you doing there
Just run an intensive CPU program for a bit before trying to take it off
Oven baked CPU
just play Jedi Survivor for five minutes
I went to go repaste my cpu but let it cool down first so I ripped the CPU out of the socket while trying to get the fan off

use isopropyl alcohol to wipe off the old thermal paste
outlook stop trying to take me to the new outlook challenge (impossible)
Just glue it back on, it'll be fine
guess it's too late to suggest twisting the heatsink off instead of pulling
cosplaying jensen
but not brave enough to bake an entire gpu
That was when their CPU was "welded" to the cooler and they needed to heat it up a bit to get it free lmao. So oven on low (For most ovens like 150F/70C ish)
uh
my PC just cycled itself
no blue screen crash or nothing
erm
what the scallop
probably just windows asserting dominance
eh im not sure
was very weird
different than other crashes ive had like that
ah ha
You could be right, only error popping up in the logger is for windows game bar which is the worst piece of non removable software
There’s also an error relating to my CPU that seems to cause reboots as well but that was a minute before the crash so may still be applicable
Cache Hierarchy error
I’ve just never had my pc self restart like that
Wack
So I have this three monitor setup with two monitors and one 4K TV.
Even though my right monitor is set to default, everything keeps launching on my 4K TV. Doesnt' matter if I'm launching a game or my PC had to restart for an update and it reopened all my apps and browser tabs, everything goes to the damn TV.
Which is an issue because it's usually off unless I'm gaming on it.
Any idea what might be causing this?
I think you can turn it off though, it doesn't need to be running
yea I have it off but it will turn itself on
To disable the Game bar, use the keyboard shortcut of the Windows Key + G to open the Game Bar Control Panel. In the Game Bar Control Panel, click the On/Off switch to OFF. This will disable the Game Bar and DVR services. This will turn back on to the default setting of ON if a Windows Update is run.
its extremely intrusive and its connected to me plugging in my controller
I guess windows update ran
One thing you could do is schedule an on-boot bash script to check for the service being on and turn it off lmao
im thinking its the CPU Cache Hierarchy error
I don't hate it, I use it to check fps now and then
Do you have an X3D?
no
I've never been able to get gamebar to actually record anything for me
but its an error that can come up on non X3D cpu's
The keyboard shortcuts don't work. So when I wanted to record stuff I always used the Nvidia one
do u know what
I dont remember touching my drivers for a hot minute
let me mess with that
fps is literally the only thing I use it for, and don't even install geforce experience
Steam has an fps counter so I use that. Nvidia control panel has one as well I think?
Or maybe it's only Nvidia Game Experience
geforce experience has the overlay, and I only have steam running if it's a steam game, things like XIV/epic etc I use the xbox shit thing, it's fine
Yeesh, I haven't had to troubleshoot obscure windows hardware problems since 2005
Just AMD things I guess
yea that one was an AMD issue
apparently its normally something to do with out dated drivers so I just updated everything
cloud streaming Uncharted is killing my pc smh
I'm just surprised there are still hardware level "go fuck yourself" ghosts in the machine in the year of the affixed god 2023, soon to be 2024
Imagine you weren't a computer person and your pc just went "eat shit dumbass" every time you plugged in a controller
the price you pay for having such a complicated system that can to 10000 things
things CAN and WILL go wrong
even assuming perfect programming, you will still have issues
Yeah, but they're usually minor issues
as hardware is not perfect, and will have faults and fuck ups
electrical inconsistencies, means your ram may flip a bit, causing glitches youve never seen before
Having to dig around for a hardware fault code seems really windows xp era
computers just got better at dealing with those faults
along with other improvements
blue screens back in teh day were a joke as they would appear for even minor faults
but windows was rebuilt to handle them better, so you still get minor faults, but you just dont see them
a BSOD since the XP era, is a proper serious fault
"non-recoverable" fault
Yeah, but it was also mainly Nvidia 's fault lmao
and a fault could be a bad part really 🤷♂️
but its not easy to test a bad chip, integrated in a component
Who knew giving random programmers unrestricted kernel level access would lead to the os shitting the bed constantly
microsoft has actually locked down a lot of the dumb access stuff in windows over the years
but microsoft is a massive proponent of backwards compatibility
This is why I didn't immediately jump on am5
and back in the day, systems weren't built with a lot of limits
New chipset, New uarch, new process ☠️
so modern windows has Slowly and i mean REAL slowly been changing things
see: UAC, deprecation of tricks old copy protection tools used (Securom/safedisk), etc.
I would love nothing more than for windows to hard block drm schemes
win8+ has made a lot of under the hood changes as well
win10 again as well, with driver packaging changes, and more
i have a 5600X, so AM4
whar
huh, im on 5900X, and its always been extremely reliable
its normally an issue with the X3D versions but it seems it can be an issue with them all
i get barely any issues
yea this is the first time ive ever had an error like that
very rare freezes, maybe once every couple months, if that
normally it is Windows and Microsoft stuff causing issues
I usually get those kinds of errors when I have my clocks set too aggressively
apparently just updating chipset drivers fixes it so we will see if it happens again but it hasnt yet
More volts or accept defeat and drop the multiplier
I have my 5600X just on the normal profile and have for a hot minute
To be honest there's no reason to dick around with overclocking anymore, cpus have like no headroom anymore
if anything i turn off auto-boosting
The most you could do is bring up the all core multiplier and watch it burst into flames
i dont need the performance, for what i do, i didn't even want a 5900x to start with
I'm in the same kind of boat, I want more power but I absolutely do not need something like a 7950x3d lmao
The power consumption jump is bonkers
7800X3D is better if your just gaming, but i think that point is a dead horse at this point
i just couldnt find a 5600x anywhere when i was buying, so at least i know my base setup will work for a long time
By the time I'm ready to buy a new pc the 8950x3d will be here anyway lmao
With two whole functioning chip let's, not just one
maybe they will make it ACtually work properly crooss chiplets by then 😛
the 7950x3d was a mistake
They should have asked apple how to bolt monolithic chips together
Just wait for apple to unveil the m3 ultra ultimate extreme
72 m3 chips on one package

Intel released a series of slides in a presentation attacking AMD -- and bizarrely, it was an actually publicly available presentation. The bitter, out-of-character attack reeks of the glue era of Intel. We're not sure...
I'm not sure if this warrants a 14-minute video but I still think Intel's claims are fucking weird
it's gamers nexus
remember how they spent like idk an hour talking about that dude with the water cooler thing
yeah
14 minutes is basically gn's version of a yt short or tiktok
I dont find intel's claims weird, I just think its more of a dont throw stones in a glass house
they all do it
AMD's mobile SKU naming is horrendous
not a single person here will argue that
yeah
but intel does shit like
"intel 7"
which is obviously trying to make it seem like its comparable to 7nm when its 10nm lol
is it as compeititve? I mean yes in ways
but its not 7nm
I'm finally looking at the slides and it's incredible
a masterful work of art
literally pissing and crying on the floor
yeah it's a dig at mobile CPU naming but hey pot, meet kettle
Also correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Intel put "old" cores in "new" processors too
Its not that it's marketing, but it's hypocritical and that sets Steve off
I won't blame intel but whenever I think "intel" I think of alienwares with an i9 and a 60 series gpu
not that I know of no
at least not in the same context
hmmm
they do have refreshes on occassion though much like the 14th to 13th gen
but its never a regression of performance in a newer gen
yeah
but thats still counts as a glass house IMO
they are acting like its a brand new product when it isnt
Got my Asgard back in the mail from the repairs. Supposedly the "muting circuit prematurely triggers" ... whatever that means.
So I hope that is simply their word for a thermal shutdown safety
Although their solution was simply to lower the sensitivity to it kicking in
So I hope that is actually a proper fix and I'm not burning this thing down bc the bottom was super hot when I first have it. Like untouchably hot
Gonna run it for awhile and see how hot it gets
Yep, guess that was it. The bottom after like 20mins is only maybe 120F instead of feeling like 180-200F
laughs in 11900K
this was a disaster back then for a very good reason
Oh yeah I forgot all about that generation
I think we should all remember it just to keep making fun of Intel
tho jokes aides. the 11th gen parts that made sense were the 11400F on the desktop and 1165G7 on laptops
everything else was just pointless unless you really wanted AVX512
Did they hire userbenchmarks guy?
I dunno but shitflinging isn't new for either AMD or Intel
Is it just me or does corsair not have a white mouse
I feel like white hardware is one of those "premium" things
The CORSAIR M65 RGB ULTRA WIRELESS Tunable Gaming Mouse boasts a durable aluminum frame and connects with sub-1ms SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS or low-latency Bluetooth®. Oh no
that's what they define as 'white'
That's not a mmo mouse
I want like a white scimitar
Hubby changed brand loyalty from razer to corsair
He has a black set of stuff and we're slowly getting me the white set of stuff since he got me a white case
So far I've got a headset and the case and I've identified a keyboard
But there doesn't seem to be a white corsair mmo mouse
Like i could maybe live without it but damn those buttons are convenient
that one with 3 buttons on the side is the most I can see
yeah looks like their mmo mouse is the scimitar elite and is only in black

Doesn't Nvidia have an H200 card coming out soon that is way better?
who knows, gotta see
AMD can hardly compare to something that isnt released yet anyway
wouldnt be surprised if thats the case though
and its not like anyone will use AMD, even if they are better, anyway because Nvidia is too deep into the industry already
I mean, that thing from AMD isn't released yet either, is it? heh
yes
but how do you expect AMD to compare it to something that hasnt released?
I'm just pointing out the marketing materials aren't very useful when comparing to like 2-3 year old hardware that is imminently going to be refreshed by their main competitor
yes
AMD once again falling behind
🤣
they should just sell off the radeon brand to someone with more capital
Possibly. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think in at least some of the stats they were saying the H200 would be 2.4x better. So AMD advertising 1.6x better than the H100 is

Okay, but who is going to upload a malware boot image to their device?
Yeah, that seems like a really fringe issue unless you have a compromised bios image that uses this
And even then, compromised bios image is much more powerful than this logo exploit thing
the boot image is modified, not the firmware itself
apple devices aren't affected since boot image is embedded in firmware, and dells are partly mitigated since they don't allow boot image modification

just go to IT smh
because it's my hardware and I paid for it?
thank you
just don't bring it in my network
corporate IT can go fuck themselves
it's funny how everyone always says that but they all inevitably visit the desk when their computer stops working
now, engineering IT.. we're buddies
because IT pushed out new stuff in the name of security that broke everything?
rushed a pushout**
"Sorry it worked for the other 700 people that don't code on their computers" and then you get yelled at for charging overhead for not getting work done
one day intel will have good drivers for GPU's
lul
to be fair
it does need to exist
lest you'll end up with someone who insists on running windows 7 on their work computer
with random DLLs they found on some random github account
we just don't allow windows 7 machines in the domain anymore... well at least in theory
yea to be fair there's no need to take my complaints about watching IT do dumb things, with what your IT does lol
oh I am not being 100% serious here
and both of us can benefit from taking a deep breath and trying to see from the other person's shoes xD
same :3
I've had the moment myself before
cybersecurity would prefer... stuff that's kinda impossible
but I'm not opposed to forbidding dumb stuff xD
I am joking about what it looks like from the perspective of security
like (and I'm not saying my company does thie because they're not that dumb)
have you ever had a pet bunny?
like using root/root on dev boards and having passwords under sticky notes
we had them and whenever we let them roam free in the garden one of them would try to dig under the fence to get to the neighbour's garden
This is my friend's company. IT from the main company dictating what laptops the full stack developers use (garbage), installing a code review plugin that basically fails everything bc it's poorly designed preventing any PR from going to master, and now preventing them from having access to elevated perms on their laptops without putting in a support ticket and waiting
that's what engineers who go above and beyond to disable security features on systems to make their own non-standard duct tape solution work remind me of
lol
doesn't happen often fortunately but every now and then...
Security so secure, nobody can do any work /s

i could give you terrible excuses for having elevated privs on my laptop
you will simply not get them
At least the it group has time to watch YouTube and shit post on discord
yea i'm fine with watching anime on the clock while waiting to get someone from IT to let me use a usb-to-serial adapter
the very funniest thing I've seen get locked out was being able to adjust microphone gain
man I still remember when we disabled the Xbox game bar for the entire company because we figured nobody used it
and then one person got really mad at us
because he used it to record presentations
also having admin on server racks is a different issue than having admin on a laptop
server rack probably aint getting stolen from a table in starbucks
Rs232 is quite literally the shambling corpse from dawn of the dead
Just won't die no matter how many times you try
i try to find a happy balance between "can get work done" and "not my problem"
ermm
i don't like carry a bigass keychain around because it just means more to be responsible for right?
i also think there's balance in things like toolchain haha
like we don't have a standard dev toolset where I work. some people use vim, some use emacs, some use vscode, some use sublime
it's nice
I don't know that I'd be happy working in a company where you have a locked down IDE config everyone uses
is there a way to remove the Nitro gift button from my chat bar?
God I wish.
I keep accidentally clicking on it and unlike the other pop-ups it won't close by hitting ESC
Ya ESC not closing it is the worst part
Gacha design moment
Easy to accidentally click the buy button, hard to be like "no I made a mistake" and close it
^ yep
MLA does that shit, they move the button to collect rewards so if you're not paying attention you click the store button instead of the collect button

Just felt like an odd thing to talk about lol
Since that’s an average speed for a jet
he's going on holiday, he's excited, seems pretty normal
When this baby hits 888kph you're gonna see some serious shit...
888km/h is pretty darn fast
especially if you're not at sea level
at 4000 meters on a cold day I think thats right behind mach 1
cause mach 1 is like 900~ish
at that altitude
its fast but still normal for a passenger plane no?
sorta?
depends on the plane
typically at altitude, 100%
if below at altitude normally not
too much drag
tbh? I think it entirely depends on altitude and temp
cause as you get higher, your mach speed requirements go down
less air for drag and less air in general
X-43A is the test bed that went Mach 10
ah ofc, but for cruising altitude it's normal
cause technically at 18k meters a planes cruising speed would be past mach
hence why they use both ground speed and IAS
and mach
ground speed, speed you are actually going
although I dont think modern commercials have that issue anymore
GPS goes crazy
ah so yea they sit at 600mph ish which is right under mach, by about 100-150mph at altitude
fast
i love how the sr-71 blackbird leaked fuel constantly on the ground
because the design was for the heat of its speed to cause thermal expansion and "seal" it that way midflight
I was making a loosely similar joke to the back to the future 88mph quote
Where are you flying to?
That GN video about Intel is funny but not unexpected considering 14th Gen feels like the 14nm+++++ days. But also tacky in that he bothered to drive down to Intel offices simply to take some silly video skulking around the property. I hope he didn't pay to fly out there just for that lol
they were doing some other stuff there as well it seems
but uh
i dont feel bad at all for any criticism that intel got
cause uh
whoever requested that to be made probably shouldnt have a job
cause it was half gibberish
criticism is fine as long as its coherent
Yeah, if you don't have a better product to release, then don't release one.
But at this point they're so committed to a yearly cadence they feel they have to increment even if they have no resources still committed to monolithic design
idk its just funny picking a side with companies that only exists to make money
pick whatever is better when it comes too 3rd party and real world testing
I've used both several times. I have gone on a streak of Intel since 2012, but that was bc amd was dog shit for a long time, and then I got a 9900k bc it was on sale and couldn't find stock for the 3900x for months
yuh AMD was pretty bad for a long time
And then got the 13900k bc I could carry forward my ddr4 ram and the mobo was 180. Whereas at that time all amd boards for the 5000 series were $500-700 and ddr5 was like $300 for 32gb
whar
I mean DDR5 at launch
was pretty cringe
im not even gonna say nothin other than what a shit show
When 5000 series released, they only had highend boards available
yea
but I dont remember ever seeing boards near that much
unless its something like the godlike boards
Mix of highend boards and covid gouging I think
But the decent boards that would have been 250 before were all 500-550
I upgraded my stuff early 2021, got a 5600X and a board on discount
plus my 3070 was only 50 dollars over MSRP
so I was happy with that
Gotta run, ttyl

I wonder when will I ever get the chance to recommend something other than the gigabyte displays lmao
If a 7600 and 6700 xt roughly the same price...
Should i choose more vram or newer tech?
24' is big enough for me...
Gonna make my eyes like Chameleon if i use that 🤣
this is decent
I will add this to what I recommend
better than the LGs of old
maybe ill give a list of my recommended displays and pin it
My recommended displays as of 2025:
AS OF 2026, RTINGS HAS PAYWALLED ALL REVIEWS... BUT IF YOU STILL WANT TO SEE THE REVIEWS, JUST USE THE WAYBACK MACHINE, IT STILL WORKS.
1440p:
AOC Q27G4ZMN

-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE0tQ6fYkOw - Gigabyte M27QA

-https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xv275k-p3biipruzx
Ultrawide:
-There are a myriad of LG displays that are all good, just google ultrawide LG and link what you found here so that we can take a look, an example of that is: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/34gp83a-b.
Although do note that good ultrawides cost a lot of money and need quite a bit of GPU horsepower to run them, they are not recommended on a budget.
I personally currently CANNOT recommend any OLED or QD-OLED displays, they are prone to burn-in and as such they are not worth the cost, they will need replacing after a few years if not taken care of properly, its too much of a hassle and worry for almost 1000$.
1080p is a resolution I would not recommend getting, its not worth it in 2025, there are quite a few cheap 1440p displays that are much better.
HDR on gaming monitors sucks and is not worth the investment at all, don't bother. If you want HDR just get a TV instead and watch your HDR content there.
there

should have added "HDR: Don't bother, just get a TV"
HDR is kind of neat if it's a built in feature
but it doesn't always work well
Hitman has had broken native HDR support since launch, they never fixed it
HDR on PC in general is just a miserable experience and pretty much no decent monitor can even reach proper brightness for it
it ducks up my screenshots
What's wrong with that? Looks like they used a proper thickness bus bar to bridge them
@sharp star these look pretty nice... kinda makes me wanna buy one but then I remember that my PC is on the floor due to my desk not having space
So? Just don't kick it 6head
1080p or not really depends on what GPU you can afford. If all you can afford is a 3050, I wouldn't go 1440p bc your fps will be crap.
Glass corners... so hot right now /s

some funny posts on there
I need an update on the original problem
i did a system restore so like
uh

it was like
dcp watchdog violation
i updated my drivers for intel and nvidia
still BSOD
so i sys restored
its like whenever i open ffxiv
and loadin
i havent tried it yet though since
because im at home
gym
looking for a plug for treadmill
could also be a failing drive or ram that is causing this, not just drivers or software
There are some but you are paying actual money because you’ll only find it in the true top end or actual work monitors
Aka you’re stuck buying a QD-OLED for an HDR1000 capable monitor that’s not like. Meant for actual production
Also that monitor list doesn’t even have a single Dell on it smh
If you work for a company that buys through Dell they go from being slightly higher to being an amazing deal
One of my friends been buying QD-OLED’s that way lmao
He has 3 for some fucking reason
the first one is a dell
My ass is blind
And it’s the one I see people tell me to get all the time W
Why does nobody talk about dell monitors more
They’re crazy good
because everything else dell is ass
And they just phased out a bunch of older models so you can get them on discount rn
True
budget ass computers that still feel like you’re overpaying
With not a good CPU in them
all that discussion about monitors: The problem is just like PC parts
How is your huge monitor Aeris
there is no generalist "good for everything" anymore
you have 240hz monitors that are shit at everything except being 240hz
you have OLED monitors that are fantastic for high contrast and black blacks.... and terrible for reading text, don't normally come in practical resolution/size, etcetc
18" laptop i think?
you have very high DPI monitors (6k 32", 5k 27") that only do 60hz and may or may not have good contrast and are a bitch to interface with most computers
and for the most part, everyone using a desktop buys a 34" 3440x1440 of some sort, the same resolution that's been around for like 10 years now lol
and for some reason, 2560x1440 is still a respectable monitor resolution, even though the very first laptop I got at work out-of-college 9 years ago had that resolution on its screen lol
the 30" apple cinema display was 2560x1600 in 2004 lol 😄
I sometimes feel like monitor tech is a scam
of course that's a little bit dismissive of tech advancements lol
like to be fair, each of the cool tech things is cool in its own right, it's just frustrating that you can't get a 'best monitor that does it all'
you just have to decide what you want most and are willing to compromise on to get it
haha also, most of the monitors use very cheesy chassis and gaudy stands
but ofc if you decide to flip those the middle finger and buy yourself an apple screen, you're stuck with a single thunderbolt input and can't change the friggin brightness lol 😄
did I mention the kinda parts diy gaming desktops use are stuck in the stone age and for some reason none of the manufacturers acknowledge thunderbolt existing?
pcie 4.0 is common now and pcie 5.0 is even a thing, and yet gpu manufacturers can't be fucked to even think about using thunderbolt ports
they're all like
YO HO HO OUR GPU IS AWESOME WITH HDMI 1.3!
-insert samsung odyssey g9 owners whining about support for 240hz on their fancy gpu at full res-
it's funny because thunderbolt would make using a vr headset a lot less annoying
1 plug straight into the gpu instead of some funky triple headed harness thingy
Didn’t you buy the huge monitor from Costco
thats how it has been with modern headsets
my quest 2 for example can either plug directly into the GPUs USB-C or go USB3.0 to headset. single cable and connector
well in metas case you dont even need a cable anymore
I just want a QD-OLED
if you stay at the 144Hz range you can find lots of really good monitors
Isn't that a DRM issue with the video signal? Could be a bad cable then, or bad connector on the monitor or GPU even.
ive been very pleased with my monitor, but I got it on discount years ago cause it went out of production, and HDR to me is something you dont need unless you actually have a requirement in your life for HDR lmao
or you just blow the money on like a QD Panel
cause those look pretty awesome
If you go with QD-OLED, probably be a good idea for the taskbar to hide itself, and set the screensaver to come on after like a minute of activity or something.
for sure
eh IDK about that
Wonder what being on discord a lot would do to it since so much of the screen is static heh
luckily for me, I haven't used a OLED monitor so I'm still totally fine with IPS black levels and contrast lol
Maybe use a transparent skin and set some chill video as your wallpaper lol ... like a northern lights loop or something heh
my friend with a double QD setup does remote IT and his shits on 24/7 cause hes on on-call salary
he only has them cause he gets a discount cause the companies hes with has a partnership with dell
might as well QD's for like 25% off
While burn-in is inherent to OLED technology, manufacturers can compensate for it through software designed to improve the useable life of your panel. Fortunately for you, manufacturers implement this well, meaning that permanent burn-in isn't that big of a concern for most folks—unless you're using an ultrawide OLED monitor, that is.
In this ...
hank posted this a minute ago
well
two weeks ago?
pretty much every company does lmao
but I've never seen it actually give a legit big discount
always felt like dell did the hank hill special deal
he doesnt go through the normal company order structure, hes buddies with procurement cause for whatever reason said company gives them the shittiest software to work with to save a few bucks so hes always having to help them
a lot of companies are cring
the best employee ordering system I have ever experienced was when I was working at a dealership
everything we bought was cost plus one cent
so the GM of the dealer could say he was charging us something without actually doing much
I almost bought a roof tent for my mini cause it woulda been 2000 instead of 4500 retail
idk
is that a laptop thing
ah they went down in price again
that's pretty cool
the best work discount i get is on rental cars lol
damn
Watchdog violation BSOD is firmware or driver mismatch error, so it's either caused by a hardware failure, or you have installed wrong drivers.

so whats that mean

Seems to often be caused by CPU thermal issues or PSU not supplying enough power or can be a faulty power cord. Stuff in that area of problems. You said it's a laptop?
Download a CPU temp utility for windows and see how high it gets. Maybe you need to clear dust out of it or put new thermal paste between the CPU and the heat pipe in the laptop

Something has been severely wrong with hiring for the last few years. We run the same coding exercise that we’ve been doing for years, but suddenly tons of applicants are failing. And we’re talking about people with 8+ years of experience with the language. They lack incredibly basic knowledge, such as the difference between map and forEach, which is something where I just can’t hire someone as a senior if they don’t know it.
^ I wonder if it's just covid screwing people's brains up
maybe people are getting lazy
idk, lazy is why I use things like map or foreach
and they also said
I’m getting people applying for senior roles who can’t write a [..] switch statement. People who are making severe mistakes with basic language syntax, etc.
idc about syntax too much but idk why someone would call themselves senior and not know what a switch is
unless they never used a language that had them
Yea weird
Maybe it’s people working a dead end job for 8 years and finally looking for something lol
Not that hard to believe
yup
i also feel like it's a 'you sow what you reap' kinda game. too many companies asking for too much experience so like
they get someone with 2 years experience applying for "senior" because all their openings say "senior" and never anything else lol
and shit, I mean a lot of programming job ads might as well say "and I want a pony, too"
Real
cuz what they really want, is a clone of their current best employee lol
the one that knows their exact business case and can "hit the ground running"
i always hated that phrase
it always reminds me fo this lol

i still dig this, just wish the feet were part of the metal too
I imagine they didn't do that because they didn't wanna get sued for copying the old mac pro design
but they could've just kept it u-shaped
I also don't like that the side panels screw on instead of using latches 😦
for a minute I thought it was a modded Power Mac case
nah it's pretty different
but it cops enough of the style to give me powermac g5 vibes ^_^
the case is one of those modular kinda designs where all the panels can be removed/changed around
the front/back bars are reversible to be feet instead of handles
which doesn't make much sense to me
it also comes in gold lol
man the powermac g5 design never gets old lol
the newer mac pro tower is kind of gaudy by comparison
i don't hate it, but man it just aint the same lol
this looks like some kind of space heater
