gotcha, thanks
Windows application zoom can get around that
reminds me to some of the GM tools we had back at gamigo.
felt like they were made for 90s computers. tiny ass window that you couldnt resize or else it breaks
Ive had a few old ass games that I couldnt get the windows to be any larger than a certain amount but the windows scaling function filled the screen
The problem is the person who makes the software has a high end machine so they pull the usual "it works on my end, must be a skill issue" response whenever you tell them there's a problem
jfc Azerty is €110 cheaper than Megekko
that's the first year of power already covered
hah, I'm slightly guilty of that as dev, I use a 1440p monitor but some people in the company still have 1080p Monitors so stuff was too big
nowadays I change my resolution to 1080p for large UIs just to make sure it works tho
its not hard to setup apps to create a snap to box, to try apps at 1080p on a larger rez, without having to change actual resolution
true, but I rarely have UIs that actually get large enough so too lazy for that :D
Btw I ordered an ssd with an heatsink in it, but thinking about it, I did not check if my motherboard has one. is it a problem or does it not make a difference?
LMAO
any modern motherboard has m2 slots in them
if the heatsink of the m2 is not big it can also fit under most mobo heatsinks and if it doesn't the mobo heatsink is removable
Oh, ye, just saying that it wouldn't be a problem if my motherboard has an heat sink and my ssd also has it?
Ah, cool
you can usually just leave the motherboard heatsink away
Ye, so it is removable, good to know
Should i go for an ryzen 5 5th gen or 7th gen
if building new, gen 7
if upgrading from am4, 5800x3d

lul
at the watts
intel 533
64 core processor workstation 555 lol
all right I am going to go for ultrawide
do you guys have any advice you could give me?
the screen I linked before is an AV screen, but apparently it has an excellent quality and speed for that, and a very good price/quality ratio
but for example, should I consider an OLED screen instead of that?
oled is amazing
but it requires screencare and stuff to avoid burnin
so it depends
on your budget and willingness to care for the monitor
okay so no oled then
I am NOT careful enough with my screens for that
and I play a lot of games with static interface elements like Stellaris
I think I might just go for the VG34VQL1B then, I will probably need to buy a new monitor arm as well because my current three-way arm does not have enough room for it
VA
but hm
response times do not look that bad?
huh
hmmm
I see it's a FreeSync monitor
but FreeSync is supported by Nvidia cards nowadays, right?
I thought Nvidia and AMD finally pulled their heads out of their asses regarding Gsync vs FreeSync?
do you have an ultrawide monitor in mind that you would recommend to others?
LG 38GN950-B https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/38gn950-b
whats the price compared to the asus?
over there
at a glance the LG looks great
omg lol
jesus
what about this
€1,100
that one doesn't even appear to be available here
MediaMarkt has this one on a Black Friday sale
but even the sale price is almost €1400
its good ofc but its an oled
also it's 45 inch
do you have a powerful PC
so my sanity is out of the window anyway
no
Megekko has a great deal on this MSI OLED UW
well "great"
it's still €900
the reviews look good though
yeah
so what does screencare exactly mean in this case?
like, should I only use this monitor when I'm actually gaming?
take care to not have any static imagery on the screen for too long
so a game like Stellaris?
so desktop bar at the bottom
and have a screensaver that is moving
like the old days
when the monitor is inactive
dont stay on desktop for too long
honestly oled just still isnt worth it for PCs unless you get like a TV that you also connect to your PC or something.
as a daily driver its just too much money for too much risk
^
not to mention that like half of the oled monitors on the market are expensive but still have shit HDR because they just dont get bright enough
just get the gigabyte or an expensive LG if you want to splurge
like, as a realistic oled monitor, i have only seen people genuinely recommend the LG C1, C2 etc series TVs
^
the alienware has burnin warranty
which is rare
but it should be a common occurence
VA is bad during dark/black scenes
that are in motion
only samsung has fixed that but
samsung

so would you recommend IPS instead then
yes
ugh why is this so expensive even with the BF sale
why does dutch sound like drunk english
because english is drunk dutch
here's another interesting LG IPS
because many companies raise prices over time to then drop them back to normal and call it a "sale".
over here that LG has been at 1200€ for months
I use Tweakers.net because it shows price comparisons and a price history
because just like TV companies, they keep changing the names slightly depending on the region and its stupid and sucks and i hate that.
is it the 34GP63A-B then?
because I can find that one
the AlienWare OLED has three years of coverage against burn-in huh
nah all different screen unfortunately. chances are that one isnt even released for us here yet
I am actually really tempted to go for that AlienWare
I will need to change my screen habits but
but man I would only be able to use it for gaming
that's a downer
dont go for oled just go for this one you linked
yeah honestly this seems like the best option for my purposes
its an old model but based on reviews its great
Im going from intel to ryzen
budget?
1k+
7xxx ryzen easily then
get a 7800X3D with 6000mhz CL30 memory
unless that 1k includes gpu budget
but i have an 650 watt psu tho
the sale price seems to be bullshit though
ryzen is energy efficient
it's been in this price ball-park since Tweakers started tracking it in April of this year
no no im gonna just spend it on storage ram cpu mobo and new monitor
4 yeah
and you're set
and AM5 will get more cpus for the same platform in the future
so ull be able to slot in future CPUs easily with a bios update
HEAR THAT INTEL
doesnt it affect perf?
not much
ohhh
Intel is horrible this gen for temps
But yeah i heard ryzens has lower TDP
much lower
yup
yea amd is alot more energy efficient
Lol my i5 4440 makes the cpu fan roar like mad
the little cpu that could
Ya lol
i figured
I heard some bad stuffs about current gen intel
like they run like an toaster
oh the reviews mention that the LG UltraGear 34GN850P-B has kind of poor HDR
no local dimming
and only 400nits, I'm not sure what that means
well
nits is brightness
HDR is only relevant for HDR content
local dimming is an HDR thing
I'm not sold on the LG 34GN850P-B so far
a lot of reviews mention that it looks gray in dark rooms
and my room is usually dark
lmao this happened the last time I was shopping for a monitor as well, there isn't one that is really ideal
it's always give and take
the VA one has a lot of great features but it still has some of the VA issues
this IPS one isn't good for dark rooms
and OLED screens are OLED screens
thats like every IPS and TN
theres no avoiding it really
does VA have better contrast in general then?
yes but good luck with dark smearing

the only VA to have ever eliminated dark smearing on VAs is the Samsung Odyssey line
but that line is meared with QC issues
except yours
is it also pulling 220+W
intel cpus pulling more than the actual gpus
100w or so
Well thats why

don't you have a manufacturer to email about temps hotter than the sun?
It doesnt go that hot unless I'm overclocking it and running cinebench
But we've already been over this
last I heard you cooled your cpu with lava and it dropped by 50%
I'll cool you with lava
lol brb dungeon pop
I have the 27" version, it's pretty
I can only comment on what it's doing right now
why would I bother overclocking in 2023, just use boost and be happy
Just buy a non k sku if you're not gonna overclock
If I leave mine at stock then at most it hits 65C
I wanted the onboard gpu for emergencies and the k was cheaper than non k
Fair
overclocking is pointless nowadays for almost everyone
K tend to boost better too
Its not needed but you are leaving performance on the table
If you're fine with it then its whatever
You're leaving performance on the table shue
1.1% more performance for only 100.1W more power?
Now we're gaming
Not a problem in the states
So we can afford the increased power
lol
I dunno about leaving performance on the table
I eat there
can I put it on my shelves?
no eat it
Only if you wash your hands
getting tired of creating an account for a website and unticking all of the boxes about "keeping me updated" only to receive a god damn motherload of spam every day anyway
Electricity should be basically free in the atomic age but haha syke actually let's keep burning propane instead
or oil or coal
Well methane
shit, UK could be self sufficient with wind apparently
Yeah
But alas, the people who would build these are bribed lobbied by petrochemical companies to build coal and natgas incinerators instead 👍
sure, charge us a few pennies to build wind farms and maintain them, that's fine
yeah it's a disgrace
Didn’t think there was that much wind there
I know it’s windy
Ireland could power the whole country lmao
The icelandics are set in their energy
Pretty much all geothermal
The Swiss and fin’s are mostly nuclear and hydro
Wind power does kind of defeat itself though, it requires pressure differentials induced by isotherms
If the climate becomes less severe, wind intensity should come down
I do love a London summer
Nice climate
i meant iceland
Iceland is sitting on an energy goldmine
Geothermal is great there
Actually looking at the stats they use hydro for 70% of their energy
The other 30% is geothermal
As their needs grow the geo expands and its very easy with Iceland active volcanism
i do have to say, this is a really weird video to make so shortly after the shitstorm
How meta
ironic that the first 12 seconds have a "breaking the bed", "your stick can not appear in the video" and a "6 inches" joke
Which shitstorm
Still the bad PR move of selling a prototype plus bad reviews or
Or something new?
all that stuff + the sexual harassment allegations and HR being run by linus' wife
I mean... is that bad? Many small companies are run by family members
I don't mean the sexual harassment part, obviously
I mean, everyone should know that a company's HR is to protect the company from getting sued by its employees
of course its bad. HR is "supposed" to be a neutral ground between employee and company.
also this is not a smoll family shop. LMG has over 100 employees.
not very successful when you disregard employee complaints and tell them to put on big girl pants and ignore abuse
It’ll be forgotten in time like most things that happen to companies
ofc, because not getting your funny tech videos is too inconvenient for people to actually care
It’s probably because most people probably don’t think about it
i'm not a lawyer but I don't think it's illegal to gaslight your employees
though that sorta behavior falls hand-in-hand with breaking the law lol
unrelated but @real edge @inland mauve https://youtu.be/Fa7V_OOu6B8
While burn-in is inherent to OLED technology, manufacturers can compensate for it through software designed to improve the useable life of your panel. Fortunately for you, manufacturers implement this well, meaning that permanent burn-in isn't that big of a concern for most folks—unless you're using an ultrawide OLED monitor, that is.
In this ...
i'm not a fan of how ios 17 moved the in-call controls to the bottom of the screen lol
i guess it's better so your cheek doesn't hang up on the call
but when I'm holding the phone to my head I can't reach the buttons with my thumb xD
(just small hand things)
It absolutely isn't illegal to gaslight employees, this is literally how performance reviews work lmao
You thought you did a good job but actually we moved the goalposts without telling you so actually you're underperforming so here's your pip
yep I see that crap complained about in /r/cscareerquestions sometimes
And these are megacorps doing it, so it's state sanctioned gaslighting
After all, what is law if not what the shareholders of large cap companies want
I don't even have small hands, but I remember completely missing the end call button. I was pretty emberrassed afterwards xD
worst case of that I've ever committed was thinking I had muted myself during a work meeting, but I didn't realize I hadn't
I was stressed out and imposter syndrome had gotten to me that day
I can't remember what I said exactly but it was along the lines of "I feel like a total failure at life right now" to my mom (I work from home and she happened to be in the room at the time)
darn. I work from home too, and I typically use voice memo on my laptop just in case
The developer stopped working on it or it has been replaced by a superior option
I clicked on the hyperlink below it, but in the instructions it shows a file that isn't listed in the newer version. That's why I'm wondering
it was in the original addon though
wait nevermind xD
like my specs?
oh xD
I have 1 tb storage. Not a lot, but I also don't fill my computer with shit
no pron on my pc
ya you gotta keep an external drive for that stuff
I need an 8tb to store movies and shows
mty
what kind of weird porn are you into where thatd be a concern?
2x 1tb nvme, 8tb hdd
pron websites are already not that safe to begin with lmao. Why install videos from there
uh
Am I wrong?
I mean, some shady sites will have shady shit
porn sites are pretty safe unless theyre weird precisely because of their nature
but there's also a large legitimate adult entertainment industry out there
anyway I don't want porn chat in #technology-discussion
xD
or probs the whole server lol
Ohhh make sense
we all showing our disks? 😄
show disks
lmao
i need larger disks, those 8TBs aren't cutting it anymore
der8auer got over 200k in CineBench r23 with one of the new Threadrippers
7950X is 38k
Why are your disks so small?
Tbh, I'm really curious to see how the 20tb disks do in my setup.
I'm slightly worried about caching drives, but that's a problem for zfs later.
not all of us can afford raid arrays
Tbh, they're auctually getting surprisingly cheap these days.
SSD's have come down surprisingly far.
I missed the super good sale a couple weeks ago on 20tb spinners, but kinda hoping for something decent after the holiday.
hmmm
dxo photolab isn't amazing me as much as it did when I tried it last year. darn. xD
it's still fast af compared to lightroom though
How is it in general compared to lightroom?
I've been trying to get my roomie off their adobe addiction and she's had issues finding software she likes.
bulk is about to explode
Yeah, it's a bit full, I've got some upgrade plans, but the current hw setup isn't condusive to me changing to 20tb's.
fair
there are 8tb nvme SSDs out there
That drive is all spinning disks, no reason to go NVMe's for bulk storage.
The all-SSD array I'm working on, on the other hand will eventually be 16 4Tb's in a raidz-2
I'd do spinning in these 2.5 bays too, but they're just not cost effective no matter how you look at it.
it doesn't have the catalog stuff, but it has really good noise reduction stuff
also it's way way faster
Hrm, I'll have to have her try it.
for sure, it has a month demo
\o/ That's sweet.
Tbh, I just dislike how predatory adobe's gotten.
Trying to cancel a subscription might as well be getting root canals.
might be worth checking it quicker though, they have a black friday special that makes it cheaper
Yeah, I already sent it to her.
You storing all of Netflix on your home server or something? /s
ehehhehe
😄 The bulk drives are more media-related, but the SSD based ones tend to be for gaming.
I've got 2x 1TB SSDs in mine atm and then an 8tb WD gold
I just finished prepping the next round for some servers so I can do some home-terraforming, because I don't have a good terraform environment atm to learn on.
Hashicorp Shill /s
I'm waiting for opentofu. 😛
dem that's some gud storage there i wish i have one
We use terraform at work as well. Trying to push for integrating it with ansible atm.
Roomie's playing w/ pulumi at the moment, I'm trying to decide if I want to give it a serious shot, but one of my paths to promotion is to improve my terraform.
So I figure I'll just terraform everything in the house for practice and probally do some provider development.
One of our old guys is still doing manual config of servers and it takes him all day and he typos shit etc.
Not cash money
I've gotta review a nasty plan in the morning, changing the node type for our gke, and it wants to recreate like 30 resources.
Very not cash money for what should be an easy swap.
My friend spent a few weeks coming up with an entire ansible script that can deploy an entire AD environment in 10-15mins, including domain controller, creating roles and groups, GPOs, etc.
that reminds me of ur system on a hanger and I was like holy Hyadaelyn how tf
Hold on, lemme get the new server collection. 😄
I'm just scanning drives into a spreadsheet real quick
Oh shit its 1:30am already? I should have been in bed an hour ago lol
So as fascinating as that would be I need to not fsck my sleep schedule bc I'm almost fully recovered from a cold and want to finish the last of this project dashboards and documentation by wed COB so I can go into the holiday weekend without anything nagging at me
Three new ESXi nodes, a new core NAS and a development box for me to chuck stuff at.
At some point I'm gonna finish ordering ram for the ESXi nodes and finally have a personal cluster with > 1Tb of ram available.
some are old SSDs, the rest are just single HDDs
Ah, that’s fair
256 gig of ram each, dual 18 core Xeon v4
They’re gonna make great little esxi boxes with hard 10gbit links for can
*vsan
gimmeee
xeons tend to be a fair bit worse nowdays than the ryzen counterpart right
These are older xeons, I picked up each of the boxes for like 300$ total
Not including drives
I did just order and got in my 3 new epyc mobos though
that does sound expensive but server CPUs tend to be crazy
The cpus for my epycs, retail are 1500+each
I’m getting em off eBay from china for like 150-ish
I really love epycs, these were just a sweet deal for what I wanted them for
The 7xx3s are still too ridiculous even for me to buy em up and use em yet, but the 7xx2s are more than I need for my projects
Presumably in a year and a half or so I’ll build up the epycs into the core of a new cluster for me, and retire this one
the new monitor stand I bought was delivered today but the monitor was delayed until tomorrow?

I don't get it
wouldn't it have been more efficient to deliver both packages addressed at the same house on the same day?
probably different warehouses
plus there is only a limited amount of space for big packages per delivery van, if they didnt have any available anymore but still space for smaller packages then thats why it might have come earlier
also which stand did you get?
Neomounts NM-D775BLACKPLUS
i wonder if im missing some kinda codec or something
they had a huge discount on it because of BF
because discord videos just dont play properly for me
it's really big and strong, and has a gas spring in it
looks interesting, though i wonder why they made the base so small
yeah that is the only part of it that I'm iffy on
but I have had a threeway Neomounts mount for my screens for a while
i hope you dont have an ikea desk
wait what exact desk do you have
the one that's essentially a big table with motorized adjustable legs
bekant i think?
yeah Bekant
idk what kind of monitor weight you will mount to it, but since the table only has a 16mm thickness, i would recommend getting a small wooden board or metal plate to more evenly distribute the weight of the monitor arm
thankfully its not one of the other table tops that are literally paper inside

"I paid $32 for this desk and it looks like a fourth grade art project inside"
Hey y'all. Do you have experience mailing a computer? My concern with mailing it is the CPU Cooler/the PC is going to get damaged in transit
you can get foam bags, these things you put inside the PC, that expands to fill the space and stop stuff moving around too much.
PC builders ship PCs to customers with it inside often.
not sure where you get them though, worth a google.
I'd be more concerned about the GPU
Already mailing that seperately
smart
I kept the box from my 6750 XT. Cut a bit of the foam to make it fit, and put the pin cover from said GPU on my old one.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B6YHDB2Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1 Here's the case I'm using for the build.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08WPDD6GD/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1Z5H6ZGWCMTNX&psc=1 CPU Cooler
True to the spirit of Noctua’s redux line, the NH-U12S redux is a streamlined, accessibly priced version of the iconic NH-U12S that has established itself as a benchmark for slim, highly compatible 120mm CPU coolers. The redux version uses the same proven heatsink layout that guarantees 100% comp...
Not mailing no but i’ve checked it in for a flight fine
yeah what you need is expanding packaging foam to be super sure, or alternatively get normal foam and cut it to the right sizes to make sure everything is all snug in there
amazon only seems to be selling big packs for like 200$ though
Something to just secure it in place
Right.
no chance they could install the cooler on arrival?
Counting the KB+M and Monitor. This entire build has cost 821.50.
As for them installing it, They have no experience doing it and thermal paste is kinda scary. (Plus. I need to test/set up the machine before mailing anyway.)
ah thats what i was getting at earlier, couldn't remember the proper name.
sucks you can only get them in bulk 😦
Btw this one here is the other SSD slot on this motherboard, right?
yep
prioritise the one closest to your cpu
Eh
No
What you circled there is the PCIe slot
Unless you mean that tiny tiny grey one
This?
Ye, I meant that
I was on my phone, so I wasn't precise
Thank you then
But yes, take the one closest to CPU
I have my current SSD in my bottom slot, but I just wanted to make sure the upper one was the right one
ok i know haha windows bad etc but
20% is crazy
I dunno where they get the 20% number from, but it seems to be a mix of benchmarks that are very close like 5% or less, along with tools that don't appear to be tuned for Windows at all, so Ubuntu pulls ahead by like 80% in those
But. Every essential component for this build has been ordered and coming in on Friday.
The only problem is that it's coming on Friday.
Gonna get dropkicked along with all the other Black friday boxes
I have my oled deck allegedly coming tomorrow along with a lockbox.
Have like. 7 packages lmao
Remember, don't lick or swallow the led bc it makes you crazy
Gatorlyte is good to avoid hangovers /s
smh guy from wisconsin would say this /s
so I need tech support
how do I update my drivers?
overnight seemingly, my ffxiv looks like doodoo garbage capped at 30 fps
i saw a popup to update the drivers but not sure what to do with it
you go to your card vendor’s site (AMD, Intel, Nvidia) then you download the GPU drivers there
i am currently resigned to a shittop that i think? has a nvidia card
open taskmanager and check to be sure
opening geforce experience feels kinda familiar
would this be the #1 culprit of a shitty ffxiv overnight
oh yeah you can also let it update via experience if you have that
yeah you can use GFE
was getting passable high graphics w 60 fps yesterday, today it can't play at all 🫠
performance tab usually has a list of different parts, like cpu, gpu, ram etc and some details to each
honestly unlikely that the driver just broke or something
BUT
windows sometimes likes to update to slap their own version of the driver during an update, so that might have happened?
if the driver broke then you can probably do a DDU clean install
it kinda feels like i'm running on onboard graphics?
seems like it. you could try switching in the ffxiv settings here and then back to the nvidia gpu
try forcing it to use your dedicated GPU in Nvidia control panel
either as a per-game setting or global
I don't even have a choice it seems like
download the for systems released

updating the geforce driver still left the frames in the dumpster
in the Nvidia Control Panel, open "Manage 3D settings", then select "Program Settings" and select-
yeah you need to select Manage 3D Settings
and then select Program Settings and select XIV in the drop-down menu
that lets you check which GPU it's forced to use
do i need to restart again after adjusting those settings
you shouldn't have to
but if it didn't fix it immediately then try restarting yeah
if this also doesn't work then the only idea I have left is to check your power settings, to make sure your laptop didn't enter power saving mode
wide gaming

it was dead, so I let it charge and it's all good now
thank u

starting to wonder if grabbing a 3060 would be worth it with my current i5-6500
as long as you upgrade your cpu in the near future
the gpu would be a "right now" upgrade with everything else coming later
it's definitely planned to eventually upgrade to an i7-13700k, but I may just do a 12th gen instead
well its a decent midrange GPU even if its completely stomped in pure gaming performance by the similarly priced 6700xt
your 6500 would absolutely bottleneck it though, so it really depends on when you upgrade to the new cpu. If that isnt happening until next year, then i would not buy it, given that refreshes of current gen cards are expected to come early next year
I know that bottlenecking is absolutely a thing, but I didn't think it'd be that bad with a 30-series card
it's part of the reason why I haven't even glanced at the possibility of a 40-series gpu
well the cpu was an "okay" midrange cpu when it released 8 years ago, which was already a small bottleneck for the then high-end cards. the 3060 already outperforms anything from back then
fair enough
I suppose trying to get an i7-7700 would not be worth it now?
that was another line of thought I had: just getting the highest CPU I could drop in my current mobo and wait a while longer to do a full new PC
nah its way too old to be worth spending money for that.
its better to spend more for a more current platform because CPUs honestly made bigger advancements in the past 4 years than the 9 years before that
gotcha gotcha
no new shinies for now
depending on how your countries tech community is, you might be able to pick up some used bundle somewhere or something too
eh
it's more me being very stingy since work just manages to cover my bills, so it takes a while to save up for any big purchases like a new pc
what I have now has served me well, but like you said, it's been 8 years and I want to get ahead of things before FFXIV's engine/graphics update next year
ye then it would make sense to just hold out a little longer and save up more for a decent big upgrade again
So for those who know how connections work, here's a problem I've been having.
Around every 15-20m in game I experience a DC, this isn't like I'm booted from the game but everything freezes hard on my end and I can't do any actions. I'm currently using Mudfish to test and see if this is helping and it seems to not be working at all. The router we use is only ~8 months old, Ethernet is still good (though planning to swap it out soon since it's cool enough to actually go in the attic), and after taking it to a neighbor of mine (they build PCs for a living) they told me it's got some wear and tear but no damages. That Request timed out error is what is causing such a big lag spike. VPNs don't seem to work and my GPU isn't being overheated/overworked to play it. Anyone know of another way to stop this big spike so I can actually play the game stress free?
So if I put in an ssd, but it doesn't show up on start up, does it mean it wasn't put in correctly on the 2nd slot, or do I need to do something else?
well, to clarify, it shows the other ssd in manage devices
like, this is the current situation from disk manager
oh, wait
found a guide online, nvm
run pings from a second computer, if it also shows a spike at the same time, then it has nothing to do with your computer, its the internet.
I would also run a ping to something not ff14 related, like google.
if both lag at the same time, then its your internet/router, thats the cause. may have to ask your ISP.
if its just the ping to ff14 that lags, then its still something related to internet, but not at your end, something beyond you and possibly beyond your ISP.
what router because netgear ones lately have been kind of trippy dc within a year
...that on its own explains a lot if it's Netgear
Yeah also lots of routers don’t have fans or good ventilation so they just cook themselves, and unfortunately the wifi chipset doesn’t like being cooked, so after a few years they start getting flaky
Corsair 4000d airflow acquired (after 4 hours of case moving….)
But you can tell if that is the case, because in that situation wired networking will still be reliable
lol I see a mic arm and the button thingy
/r/battlestations approved
I have the same mic though
Love the wave 3
I dunno if it would be more cost-effective for you to go Intel or AMD, but you could do something like this for about $300 and upgrade the CPU later: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LbwQmr
Part List - Intel Core i3-12100F
I hear AMD may be releasing a 5600X3D soonish that might only be like $200-225.
And those 3D cache CPUs are always raved about for punching above their weight for playing games
5800X3D and 7800X3D
Otherwise if you stuck to a DDR4 motherboard, you might even be able to re-use your memory for now if your 6500 uses DDR4 memory already, even if it is slow.
yeah I read something about 5500X3D and 5700X3D
Would a 3060ti run final without frame drops locked at 60fps? Sorry for the stupid question ☺️
I ask because I have it on my ps5 but I want to get back on the pc
what resolution is your monitor
It’s 4k
ehhhh
then it depends on settings I think
the 3060ti is not a 4K card but FF14 is not a heavy game either
so lower settings should get you 60 easily
Okay thank you ☺️
even at that resolution
seems like you will be fine, I remembered gamersnexus had FF14 benchmarks
Oh wow thank you
Does the cpu make a difference?
Sorry for all the questions
in FF14 yes but in 4K not as much as other resolutions
so yes it does but if it does you can just lower some CPU centric setting
also I am not sure if he tested in limsa
I have a very new cpu so it should be fine hopefully but if not I will do what you just said
which one is it?
Yeah limsa will be the first place I go to check
Let me see
altho with the minimums increasing next year the 3060ti might not be enough for 4k 60fps anymore
but we can't tell, this is just a guesstimate
Intel. Core i913900K
ull be fine easily then
Im kinda new to pcs built this over the summer
your cpu is better than the one he has in his testbench
Oh I had no clue 😂 maybe I need a better gpu to go with it maybe ?
4k in general is a GPU-bound resolution but FFXIV is a cpu bound game
It that because all the people on the game ?
I’m about to load it up 😐
Should I use nvidia recommended settings for the game ?
Okay noted thanks 🩵
Okay thank you so much honestly means a lot !!!
unless you are in limsa where there are a million characters at once lol
then it might dip below 60
I stay away from limsa I’m way to shy for online games 😅😂
I have my own fc with like 4 people in it that ain’t been online for over 300 days 😭😂
That’s still a thing ? 😱
last I played fcless yes
I hope they fix the flooding bots when 7.0 comes out
the new gpus might get announced january next year at CES which is january 9th I think, there will be lots of tech news if they do including MSRP and specs so you can probs come back then and ask here or follow some tech channel like gamersnexus on youtube and he will talk about it
Because I remember when endwalker came out the bots were everywhere
Okay thank you guess I need to save more money for when they do come out ☺️
ull be fine for now but min specs increase might cause you to lower your settings to keep your 60
when they do get increased
and other games might not run at 60 without heavy compromises with settings if you play other games that are graphics heavy
I’m happy to do that it just don’t feel smooth on the ps5 for some reason so I want the pc version back
with pc you can go even to 144 if your monitor supports that HZ
which will make ps5 feel like shit when you go back after you get used to 120-144 lol
Yeah that’s the hz of my monitor
Well I’m online max settings 4k and it’s a steady 60fps without making it 144hz yet
Only problem it’s to early so limsa is kinda dead
So not a real test just yet
thankfully ff14 is not a heavy game
I usually lower my settings to get to 100fps or above personally cause it feels so much better even if the game doesn't look as good
Okay set it to 144hz it’s very stable no drop yet but again I think it’s because the world is asleep lol
setting your monitor to 144hz doesn't make your games run worse
its a monitor setting you should keep it there permanently'
makes everything smoother
Oh I thought it required more power from the gpu and made it worse I’m a idiot 😂
Okay will always use it then
dw about it its a common misconception
I assume you meant setting it in your display settings on windows
Yeah I did
4090 bros
😌
important to remember that gamersnexus really just uses the official benchmark for this and actual ingame performance can vary greatly
granted I use reshade and stuff
i have, during the loadingscreen to a dungeon

ye
I’m happy either way it’s running very good 😊
4k is a heavy resolution for the 3060ti but in most use cases it should get 60fps as long as there aren't many player models on the screen
yea I agree
you don't need a 4090
and i bet most people would be happier with something that doesn't produce an assload of heat and fan noise anyway
Yes nvidia always 😊🩵
Yeah I had a amd can’t remember what one it was so loud 😭
idk 5700xt? 😄
Yes!!!
the 5700XT was such a pile of crap
It always kept freezing my pc to !!

I had a radeon 5770HD and it was fine but I haven't had an amd gpu since
my friend had 5700XT and kept getting this green screen of death issue
cause when I was buying a gpu to upgrade from that, AMD was very bad
i have a 6650xt in my other rig and it's nice and quiet and doesn't even get all that hot
XIV never worked on it
but i haven't really done much with it
Yeah that’s exactly what happened to me
yikes
went from a 5770HD radeon to a 1070
amd needs to make better gpus x_X
i wonder how well my cpu will hold up
the only reason i bought an amd gpu in the past was because i wanted to hackintosh
now I am eyeing the new GPUs that will get released next year, the 4070ti super leaks are looking juicy if true
16gigs of vram, better bit bus
the gpus are fine. the software isnt
i kinda don't want to buy a gpu ever again but
if the 4070ti super offered 3080ti performance and was way quieter
i'd consider it >>
I built my pc watching YouTube videos I know nothing about pcs so I’m just hoping one day It dont blow up or I get the screen of death 😂
hmm
i thought the 4070 was a piece of junk
then again idk, idc, I shouldn't have bought the 3080ti
it was a total waste 😄
it runs very cool and efficient
the rgb bar is cute though :3
but its not powerful
its a 3080
that runs cooler and quieter
and uses less power
essentially
4070 would be great at a cheaper pricepoint ngl
like 450$
How much will it be ?
right now its 540$ or 550euro which is too expensive for what it offers
2500 dollars!?
its like 580-600 over here but at 450 it would be a midrange killer
whats with the 4090 scalping
LMAO
US decided to ban transportation of 4090s to china because of AI or some shit
yea at the end of the day the best nvidia gpu to buy is the cheapest of that model
it doesn't matter who makes it
along with other AI gpus
zotac, pny, gigabyte, asus
the best 4090 is the cheapest 4090
I’m never getting a 4090 😭 not with my pay grade
and that's probably the FE for like 35 seconds whenever best buy restocks
I didnt do that cause I was worried shitty vrm phases/quality and shitty cooler would not make it last 5-6years like I wanted
has anyone used significantly worse VRMs?
like
14 phases for 4090
type of shit
my 1070 has 8phases btw
and uses a third of the power or less
I got the cheapest 4090, so far so good
PNY

only complaint is the card is kinda ugly but who cares
so basically, what asus used to do with their maximus boards
What does it look like ??
I remember when buildzoid shit all over them
I get like 338 a month so even then it would have been too expensive so getting something at the 700-1000 range is more appealing for 5-6 years
Damn chunky boy 😳
and then redditors were like U IDIOT Y U NO BUY AORUS MASTER
and I want nvidia cause AMD drivers are shit
yeah they are huge
Mine looks tiny compared to that 😂
4090s are huge and overbuilt
i think that pony looks fine
at least it doesn't look like the eysoose
That’s my pc 😭😂
I might get the 4080super if its like 950-1k euro
Mine is the size of a baby. 4090s are ridiculous
REPUBLIC OF GAMERS
we need that country /s
That’s mine
rainbow PC
REPUBLIC OF GAMERS <o
It’s usually white but I switch it sometimes
smol GPU
eyyyy 👍
It does the job 😭😂

I’m proud of my first build only the cable control made me mad but got it in the end
I have a 6yr old gpu soon to turn 7 years old next year cause all gpu releases until now sucked, were not worth it, got stupidly expensive(thanks covid) or had shit specs(anything below the 4080)
and the 4080 is too expensive
for what it offers
12 gigs of vram with 192 bit bus in 2023 lol what a joke
on a 750euro gpu
lmao
I have a question for you guys what’s a good keyboard for comfort And quietness haha I hate my old keyboard
why don't we look at the back
at least the 1070 somehow still runs games at 60fps even now
I wanted the back to look like it wasn't a fire hazard
Same here …….
isn't it beautiful?
Well my budget is £150 so if anyone has a many ideas please send me a link ☺️
silent reds are nice, but I like my silvers better
My camera is so bad and my glass is tinted. I gotta use a flashlight
a lot of people would say silent reds defeat the purpose of a mech keyboard
but they still ahve that nice crisp action
I like those msi gpus
except for the giant SUPRIM on the side
but I can easily gloss over that because they look pretty nice otherwise
Ya the silver is really nice
Purple good choice
Ah damn it
r/MechanicalKeyboards: /r/MechanicalKeyboards is currently reworking rules regarding Group Buys / Pre-Orders due to recent problematic vendors.

but ye consult this as a guide to get what you want/need
I’m reading it but it’s all very erm alien to me 😅 I will figure it out I’m sure
my favorite feature on my computer
Okay thank you
Wow that’s awesome
I wish it wasnt like 200 dollars more when I built this pc. I wanted a screen so bad
if you want quiet and comfortable silent reds are good
yep
silent red cherrymx
silent reds don't use o-rings iirc they just have a plastic design that makes them not slam down as hard
which means they don't feel as crisp when you slam them down 😄
cherrymx makes the keys btw they are not a keyboard manufacturer
...
...
I honestly can't remember hearing that the i3 even existed
though the mobo looks nice despite being a micro-ATX (I'll be dropping everything in to a 5000D-airflow, so I got room to spare)
and later I could upgrade that i3-12100F to something beefier/newer like an i7-13700k or i9-14900k with a BIOS update
definitely worth considering, and it's a lot cheaper than my current wishlist
or silent browns
but I like em. I used to use a corsair strafe at work with silent reds and it was quieter than most of my coworkers' keyboards, even the membrane ones
I think there was a decent one with a 240mm radiator but i wanted a 360mm since this case could fit it and those ones got pricy
if you want a tactile feel but not loud
Ive been using a Kaith and Halo Clear mix for like 2 years. I like it alot
get a thermalright peerless assassin 120 not that super expensive noctua
its much cheaper and just as good
you can't really go wrong with any of those switches lol, cherry included ofc
thermals wise
yea those dual tower 120s are about as effective as a 240 aio I think
the aio is only nice for the weird edge case where you can immediately dump the heat outside of the case :3
but most people put the radiator as an intake >>
I don't think 14th gen is compatible is it? 12th and 13th are at least. But yes that was the idea was to be able to jump up if you want. And the cost of 32gb and 16gb kits are almost the same for DDR5 atm. Was like $10 more for the 32 heh.
Keep in mind you probably won't get 6400 speeds out of that kit. Most only do like 6000 consistently unless you have a board that only comes with 2 DIMM slots.
you'd be surprised? I think 13th and 14th use the same chipsets
happy thanksgiving!
Also I wouldn't spend $210 on a mobo if you are only going with the i7 and won't overclock. Find something for like $150 instead.
and it's 12:24am I shall stay awake a little longer
Ya my first mech keyboard was a 60 or 80 dollar cooler master gateron brown keyboard. I liked it alot
Leopold FC660m/FC750/FC980/FC900 with silent red cherrymx keys or brown, or ducky one/one 2 with silent red/brown is what you should look for with your budget and wants, if a local store there has them, go and test them out yourself how they feel because thats very important
I'm just going by Intel usually only supporting 2 gens at a time, but maybe bc 15th gen is going to the chiplet architecture, they put 14th with the earlier ones?
I have a Ducky One Two with browns and PBT keys for work. Very solid keyboard. Type faster than my older ducky with browns and ABS keys
ya I went to microcenter when I got my first one and liked how the gateron browns felt. Id tried cherry reds and blues before and hated them
Okay I will do that I have a pc store near me thank you
that NEVER happens intel land
Ah lovely ducky yeshyesh
As I said, that is only happening then bc they're moving away from monolithic CPU designs with 15th
ohh ducky has keyboards here huh
At least I'm pretty sure 15th is the first one with chiplets
Also if your budget isn't that ideal, consider common red/brown switch then a bag of rubber rings, it should dampening the sound somewhat
Otherwise you can't go wrong with Keychron either.
Tho Akko is a bit hit or miss imo
My fren's akko has one defected switch but should be gud, hotswappable tho
that's fine, not like any of us are gonna try and do that either
The fans also watch like there is a respawn point
Well I’m currently using a very cheap Amazon keyboard that was like £25 so I will take anything that feels better 😂
Otherwise if you want to spend a bit more, get the barebones aluminum frame keychron then buy custom switches
I want an ergo mech keeb reeeee
Are they not worried they'd crash into someone?????
Also, keychron recommended
Tho how much keychron in EU?
The keys are nice and not too clicky
Bc um tax
Hello fellow
You mean them ?
(I think its cheaper cuz iirc their factory is in china)
I really love these for work: My aluminum bezel KB has those in it and I swear I type like 30-40% faster than my gaming keyboard with them. https://dangkeebs.com/products/prevail-epsilon-linear-switches
Prevails' Epsilon linear features a bright orange color, full nylon housing, JWK's P3 stem (same stem from their Durock POM linear switches), and 68g gold-plated progressive spring. With the JWK produced full nylon housing, mystery material stem from their POM linear switches, and progressive spring, this switch will h
Oh the pound
Yeah from England 😅
They top out at 68g but its a progressive spring that starts at 45g
Ya it'll help us figuring out what's the more affordable ones
So you get the benefits of the softer feel of like a brown, with the quick rebound of something like the blacks or w/e that are 68g without it feeling super heavy to press down
Also they're prelubed so if that's not your thing, you don't have to spend 10hrs lubing them yourself heh
Hmm okay thank you hopefully make one soon and show you all the finished keyboard I will be checking all day for the best keys etc
😅 yeah prelubed sounds more easy for me
IMHO for typing/productivity I would go with the PBT keycaps, but if its just gaming or general use you could stick with ABS
Then you can join the Church of THOCK
Me crai in crappy laptop keeb
Yeah it will be for gaming that’s about it really
Ya red switch should be good
Okay thank you
Brown is nice as well but better for typing
In this video I show you the TOP 5 ways to make your keyboard sound better (THOCK)

Them not good ?
Good enough tho
I just like the other moar
Can't go wrong at all w cherry for starting
Reds are on the same tier as Browns I think. Except Browns are tactile whereas Reds are linear
Tho beware that some peep may says that brown cherry is like scratched red cherry
Switch is very subjective
So if you got like Reds + added the rubber orings under the keys, they would feel good while not annoying the entire office or classroom
But cherry is a good start
Kail box for annoying your collegues
Brown is "basic bitch" as far as mechanical keyboard switches goes, but IMHO in a good way. It's simply a good mix of not too loud, not too heavy, etc.
Also reasonable force as well
That stuff ?
