I don't have one but my idea was to change my 2007 Toyota Aygo with an electric car
But first I need to see what my needs are when I need to change my car
EV seems chill if you have a home charger
personally ill probably wont get a ev unless i can charge at home
I will probably never get one
Not just I can't afford it, but I live on the ninth floor of a ten story building
So no charge at home
I don't have a home charger obviously but I saw that last year here where I live they put a lot of chargers
I know a lot of battery packs do that, but I think newer EVs are starting to move away from that. Unfortunately that's a mixed bag when it comes to re-usability. Thing is, when it comes to Priuses and old Teslas, there are refurb people that can take apart the "bunch of AA battery" power packs and replace the non-functioning cells with functioning ones.
The "giant ass laptop battery" style packs are basically disposable, but I imagine they can be designed to be reused
I also think the giant ass hummer EV is really stupid
my dad is in his 70s and drives an EV, has no home charging but he's happy enough
yeah hummer ev is just stupid
but i think small/midsize car EVs are fine for a lot of use cases, and hybrids are great for a lot of use cases
like ill probably get a hybrid but not a full ev
and really I think it's ok to drive something that isn't appropriate for your use case
a PHEV
by the time i got enough cash for a new car EV will probably be a lot more widely adopted
welp, there it is
yeah, because tesla's workmanship is dogwater so they offer you a massive warranty lmao
"I get a 10 year warranty" - dumby who bought a hyundai
Hyundai and good is not something I want to see in the same sentence
I wouldn't buy a hyundai/kia unless it was like that rwd one with the v8 or maaaybe the v6
and I think the prices they ask for those are too high
like if you give me the choice between a $50k chrysler 300 with the v8 and a $60k genesis, I'd never buy the genesis
I'm very biased but I love my civics, it takes a lot to kill those things
even if everyone and their mother tells me i'm an idiot for not buying the genesis for just $10k more
but if it were $40k I might consider it
I like the new Honda Civic, very angular, will definitely cause lethal internal bleeding if I hit a pedestrian, which isn't the goal ofc
maybe it is the goal
Accidents can happen
i'd be more willing to believe somebody buying a mazda for that purpose
Mazda 3 are perfect for that
the way the hood sticks out about an inch past the grille
IDK why people keep swooning over mazda
Seriously, why did cars go for these more angular, sharp edged shapes?
Futuristic
I think their current cars are hideous
also that cx30 looks like a pain in the ass to get into if you're tall
if you lean forward at all your head will hit the windshield
geez it looks like a pt cruiser with a long hood
Oh hey Sarah, I love your banner

I sold my neon
you had a working neon?!
So I have 40-50k ish to play with for my new track car
you had a working neon in 2023?!
I've mentioned my track car plenty here
Wait Sarah can drive?
I kinda want to go find a random fresh neon to take to a dodge dealer and film their reaction
they'd be like "holy crap a working neon?!"
I've mentioned it's got an old rotary in it, a custom adapted transmission
Running E85, methanol kit...the works
that 224k mile neon has an auto transmission too o_O
Sold it to a shop friend because I blew a turbo
somehow you made a neon less reliable lol i like it
And didn't want to put more money into it
Track car, didn't need to go far from a shop
thhe upside down steering wheel always bugged me
The roll bar set up I had costed more then the chassis
I'm having withdrawals rn because I don't have a track car
I do want to get the BRZ, but idk how much tuning I can put into a newer car
So either I can a nice clean BRZ or I do a new project car an hate myself
Was challenged to make my next track car electric too
Dunno how that's gonna work.
given your record with microwaves and toasters I'd suggest sticking with the brz lol
that or we're gonna hear about your used tesla battery spraying you with coolant
idk
I'm still an electrical eng
did any of your lab projects ever catch on fire?
i should be ashamed of myself for asking that question but idk I almost caught an adc on fire once
Not the ones I do for production no
If Im doing work work it's the full proper process with health and safety
Full engineering design flow and all
But personal stuff I just kinda..wing it
Eh
It's a car
If it crashes and burns on the track what can go wrong /s
Luckily because I'm competiting, there are rules I need to adhere too. And the track marshall inspects all our cars
time to upgrade my PI
the tar.gz is rising
i did tar -czvf
lmao, google play games messed up my directory reading
ah, nvm there is the "used" part that is now sorted instead, now that i updated
Fuck me, been a series of minor crises today being the last day of the project
Going to be stuck finishing it up going into midnight I think
Nothing like realizing at 5pm your logic underpinning saving data to the database is flawed and will be duplicating entries
I was able to work out an elegant solution without resorting to jank. Also that I WAS able to figure out a solution and not have to be SoL and crawl back to them in the morning unfinished.
I'll leave the admin guide for tomorrow
The first Pentium 4 CPUs struggled to compete with Intel's own previous processors, let alone with the competition from AMD. Even worse if you had one of the OG Netburst Celerons. But what about Retro Gaming?

Hank can pretend he's cruising down the highway at midnight on a summer night in his 1982 Chevy S-10
there's an increasing aftermarket for traction inverters and drop-in battery packs for EV hot rodding/modding
you don't need to go dumpster diving for salvaged tesla drivetrains anymore
i imagine it's still cheaper lol
Ok why try to pop it like a pimple
How did that even happen
tire bubbles happen when the internal structure fails
remember tires are more than just rubber, there's a lot of metal belts and stuff inside holding them in the tire shape
I’ve just never even heard of that before
when the structural bit fails you can have a leak between the layers of rubber and then you get a bubble like that
A small bubble in your tire sidewall can look harmless, but it could have serious consequences. Any tire bulge indicates a major problem with your tire that could cause a tire blowout and a dangerous accident at any time. Read more from the experts at Jiffy Lube about what to do what you find a small bulge in your tire.
basically if you keep driving on it, it'll go ka-boom
I don't think there's anything you can do but get a new tire
Any damage to the sidewall of a tire is GG
yup
what kinda tv did you buy that eats 400w
2008 plasma tv?
jeezus
i have a 55" miniLED tv that is known for its very high brightness and even with HDR it only goes up to roughly 150W
depends how much power you want, a tesla drivetrain (motor + inverter) is like $15k-ish and probably more now that tesla doesn't just total out cars when they get a ding in the bumper
the reason you had a million of the stupid things in the aftermarket was because tesla just didn't bother to fix any crashed cars, the repair value was too high compared to the insurance value so they just scrapped them for parts
lol tesla didn't make that decision, the insurance companies did because tesla wouldn't sell the repair shops the parts they needed
and the worst part is that other car companies copied them
they all pull that shit now
"you need a part that we use to make thousands of new cars every day? Nah bruh it's on nationwide backorder for the next 6 months sorry"

because it uses a slider and under the rubber dome there is a spring that hit's the electrocapacitive part of the pcb
rubber dome but better?
i would like to try an hhkb or a realforce but you know im not paying 350 € for a rubber dome

I remember I was stayin at an airbnb and the tv license people showed up
do you have to pay even if you dont like, have a TV or watch cable

No real loss tbh
if you just stream it's fine
how much is the license
its pretty impressive how much of a ripoff TV is anyway
cable companies here will "lock you in" for a year for like 100 bucks a month
£159/year
and then after a year they hope you forget to cancel and they will literally charge you triple that rate
might cancel mine, I don't use it much tbh

kinda cool but that shit running at like 15FPS lol
slightly tech related question... anyone an electrical engineer.. or know about the construction of AC electric motors. (not brushless)
not an EE but I know how they operate yeah
I've got a broken one, and wanna double check exactly how the broken bits were supposed to fit together to replace em.
Think you'd be able to assist?

I can try
is it just a stand alone motor or did it go to something like a power tool
@potent arrow
lemme grab some pictures, one sec.
yes
why
I know how AC motors work
Im thinking you are talking about 3 phase?
I wind and build them so I could help with that
nah not 3 phase.. this is a 120v electric motor for a HVLP paint sprayer.
lemme see
Lol those brushes are fucked
yeah....
i was curious how they were attached before gettingfucked
Was it attached directly to the brass fitting with the spring holding tension on it?
yes they would
and the brass would be where that groove is
but looks like you fucked that part of the rotor too
(the brass fittings sat in a plastic mould but i didnt take a picture of it in the mould)
ALL FUCKED
I would just throw that motoe out lmfao
looks good
did your kit require drilling? I would've figured it'd all be held on with tape lol
ah
Ok so yeah, makes sense now. The brushes burnt up and detached from the brass fittings.
hmm.. dunno, the brushes are fucked, but the fittings themselves still look alright, they just aren't in the plastic mould currently that sits ontop.
Might have a tinker and see if I can attach new brushes at some point..
for now I guess I'm done painting.. >.>
haha wtf
i'm suddenly reminded of what's going on with this house's furnace and its inducer blower motor
you fuckin serious?!
FKIN LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
HOLY SHIT
HOLY SHIT YOUTUBE
THAT'S FULL CORPO
holy fucking shit
holy fucking shit youtube
did they see the other streaming services and go "i can do that"
Dear youtube
the other streaming services PRODUCE their own shows
Why produce your own shit when you can instead promote some random, law breaking girl to steal it for you
What new drama?
@modest moss officially debt free now dad
I pocket 3k a month now
time for 4090???
MORE DEBT?!
Lol
I think I'll wait for 5090 now

the 4090 price has drastically increased
to the point where its a bad purchase now
its 1800+euro in europe
WHAAAAAAAAT
and 1700$+ in the US
why would it inrease
blame the US embargo on china for that
the 4090 is included in the embargo
good news is
a refresh may be coming Q1 2024
we may finally get a 256bit bus 16gb vram 4070 variant, either 4070ti super or 4070super
yes
wait for 50 series
I have a 10 series so I will be keeping a close eye on that refresh
the 4070 was disappointing and the 4070ti was shit
and the 4080 was too expensive
just shell out for a 4090 and dont think about it
Lol
just be aware the 5090 might not be until 2025
it will cost four hundred thousand dollars
600w space heater that will require yet another new power connector that surely won't catch fire this time
I tried the 4070ti but ended up breaking down and just getting a 4080. I was hoping the TI would be enough.
did you end up returning it?
Nah, gave it to my roomie who needed an upgrade.
They're not trying to do 4k memes like I am.
pricey
Seeing people huffing copium on gpu pricing is funny
I-if I just wait!!
It is funny that the 4090 almost seems like good value for money
its funny how quickly the companies completely fucked up our impression of good vs bad value for a product thanks to covid
personally I am waiting for the refresh cause the existing options suck
literally a week into covid, a high end gpu for 700€ was considered expensive
by the end of it, 1000€ was considered the normal price
and 700€ was one hell of a deal
Things changed dramatically
i can still hear the "noo they wouldn't be that shitty. after covid the prices will normalize again, trust me bro" faintly in the distance
they didnt though
nvidia doubled the prices for their higher end GPUs and people still buy
Oh I would need a new gpu
anything is a good value if you use it enough
True
Kinda. Plus the earlier you get a video card the better value it is over time
ya sweating over an upgrade too long defeats the purpose at some point
buy a PC exactly when you need it
I got a 48" Oled Monitor that does 120hz
But all my games don't hit stable 120 FPS

#firstworldproblems
OLED would be nice if they solved the blue subpixel death issue
QDOLED ostensibly has better lifetimes since all the active pixels are blue, but I think there's still a yellow shift since you don't get true white?
EH its fine
its fine
thats what I tell myself
look I'm old
I upgraded from a 27" 4k monitor
I would really like to change my monitor for a oled but I'm kinda scared of burn in
Mainly because im on pc
I haven't had any issues
I would really like to see more mini led monitors
with the LG gaming monitor version
does a screen cleaning
everytime I turn it off
or it goes to sleep mode
burn-in isn't a terribly big deal unless it's on 24/7
or like, 20 years old
it's not like CRTs didn't have the same problem 35 years ago
any phosphor-igniting element will degrade over time, them's the rules
True
Im sticking with IPS for now but by the next time I get a new main monitor OLED wont worry me at all and will probably be cheap. Theyve gone down a good bit already
my issue with OLED is that they haven't resolved the subpixel decay rate to be the same between the colors
I'm still going to look how's the market since I'm saving for a 1440p build
so your monitor slowly gets more yellow over time since the blue pixel dies faster
imagine paying $3500 for a state of the art OLED and by the time your brightness half-life hits you're 600-700K warmer
I'm waiting for more mini led monitor because I think it's a good compromise
You have really good colours, you don't have black levels like a oled but not as bad as a normal ips monitor
OLED aren't that much
It's a combo of "They can always use that silicon for more AI cards for 4x the price" and AMD having a weak counter to DLSS
With a supporting effort by UE5 being such dogshit performance without hyper optimizing it. Leading to lots of games that would have run fine on UE4 with the level of effort developers make, to almost requiring DLSS for decent fps on UE5.
man even if FSR was better than DLSS, the prices wouldnt be much different because AMD went right up with them
Mostly, yeah. 7900XTX is a decent card at 950 or w/e
But you saw AMD do that with their CPUs as well. 5000 and 7000 series aren't nearly as good a value as the 3000 was when they were first getting positive press
aka: AMD is a company and companies want to max profits, they are still not your friend, they merely played the underdog role to their benefit while they were down.
what, space rock?
Nope
Don't you love censor bots too aggressive for their own good heh
lol get deleted
the bot needs a leaderboard indicating who triggers it the most 😄
don’t encourage people
My favorite is when YT links get me bonked
we will happily fix those
I know, it's just pretty funny bc it's like walking down the street on a sunny day and getting struck by lightning
ya, youtube loves an F slur in a video url
😔 i thought my new ssd was failing, but no it was actually the cable that was the issue
then in replacing the cable, i found out the gpu latch is broken
wth

they usually do break
;_; i looked at the sata cable and it looked ok too
luckily i had bought a pack of 3 new ones
i've had like, og sata power connectors break, never a latch on a gpu cable tho
I got the wrong cables for my new mobo ;.;
it came with the wrong ones?
Hey so I have this cousin of mine who is special needs and loves Skyrim. He really wants to get in on the modding scene but doesn't have the money for a gaming PC. He asked me about a Steamdeck, but from what I could find trying to get mods to run on that thing would be very hard for him. At this point I'm recommending that he just gets a low-end gaming laptop, especially given how hold a game Skyrim is, but I'm not too sure what to recommend. Any thoughts?
may be difficult considering the steam deck's os isn't windows yeah
No, the specs disagreed between sites, so i ended up ordering the wrong ones. 😄
Offhand, modding a game tends to mow down performance like nothing else, so it's likely that a low-end machine will fall over by the time the modding is all sorted. Supposedly, you can get mods working on the steamdeck, though you may want to do some research.
What about something in the $500 to $600 range?
Honestly, I haven't built a machine/researched machines in that range in some time, so I'm not gonna be the best to ask.
Ah yes, I should seek out Buildingway instead!
I field dress my old motherboard box every time I get new parts, so I have a growing army of SATA cables
Bc every new mobo comes with like 3-4 SATA cables
And with nvme I don't even need them for storage anymore
i remember when i bought my first m.2 nvme i didnt have any special screws, i didnt haev the stand lol, it didnt even come with one
i had to buy a kit full of them/other screws and now i have so many
Weird. Any one I've bought either came with that stuff and/or the motherboard came with them
I've lost so many m.2 screws I had to get a pack.
I haven't lost any of the screws, but I did have to go out and buy the screwdriver for them bc even a normal tech phillips is too large heh
I've always been super bad about using magnets on my screw drivers, so I usually lose them dropped into the bottom of case or something.
That's when you get to play one of those puzzle games with the marble in the maze to get it out /s
my last asus board came in a really sweet box that I stored all the extra cables and screws and stuff in
my msi board came in a less exciting box lol, I haven't put anything in there
stil a nice box though
they're already selling 14900ks?
and surprise it works with z790 😮
so it's an upgrade for someone with like a 9900k 😄
if they are the same price I'd go with the 14900K
probably a more mature process
plus intel has some beta software out that supposedly can optimize the 14th gen in games and looks promissing
for sure
im sure they are gimping it on purpose so that it only works on 14th gen
lol what about 11th gen
also 10nm 🤣
huh
ray tracing in phone games soon
lmao
Just what somebody asked for
Per the latest PS5 Pro leak by RedGamingTech, the console could feature an 8-core Zen 2 CPU with clock speeds slightly above 4 GHz, an RDNA 3 GPU with up to 2.8 GHz clock frequency, and 16 GB of 18,000 MT/s GDDR6 memory resulting in memory bandwidth of 587 GB/s. Interestingly, the leaker now alleges a downgrade in the manufacturing process.
I dunno about a pro, the main reason that happened last gen was the introduction of 4K displays and the weak cpu
Back to that 2013-2019 era Intel CPU generations huh

That’s weird. I’d only pay income tax on profit made from selling something
Like you deduct your purchase price against the sale price
you also have to sell at least 30k over 4 years...

Man....how much trouble did you guys have updating your BIOS?
This sounds tedious and annoying.
never had trouble lol
the only thing is the website usually gives you a zip file and you stick it on a usb stick, but they don't make clear whether you should unzip it or just toss it on the usb stick
iirc on mine you have to unzip it and then toss the extracted stuff on the stick
but the motherboard's menu thing makes it clear what version your board has and what the file you select has
nah, bios updates on PCs nowadays is pretty simple.
back in the day it was really annoying
The only problem I had was bc I used a 128gb thumb drive at first, so even tho it said it was FAT formatted, it was actually EXFAT
So the update would think for like a full minute then fail
Eventually I went out and bought a 32gb one for like $5 I knew would be the size to be properly FAT formatted and then it worked
entirely unnecessary
fat32, has support for larger than 32GB
but windows just doesn't do it if you format in the UI
you could have just formatted that drive in teh command line, or used a 3rd party tool called fat32format
in standard sector size of 512B, fat32 can reach up to 2TB max size
then again, 5$ is 5$, so who cares
I tried a number of things including using rufus and it wasn't working so yes, after awhile I was tired of the nonsense and just got a preformatted 32gb that way I knew it would work heh
ive got a small box full of USB drives
i never throw any away 😛
so ive got like, 6x 8GB drives, and a couple 16, and another couple 32
Yeah I have or had a 2gb one for many years but I couldn't find it
they used to get used A LOT
since well, i worked in IT
which is why i had so many
ive even got one very special 2GB one
which you can use a piece of software, to change how it presents itself
as either a removable drive, or a fixed disk
which was amazing back in the win XP days
as booting from USB was Very non-standard, so "removable drives" would just not work on many computers
my msi motherboard actually came with a usb stick lmao
it kills me how both windows and macos come with real shitty drive partition/formatting tools
yeah, not uncommon nowadays
like if you remember how to use fdisk or macos' diskutil in the commandline it can go ok but the GUI tools suck so bad lol
diskpart is my friend on windows
I can fumble my way through whichever one by using the help screen xD
I know what I want, I just don't always remember what the tools call their options 😄
diskpart is one of those windows tools where you run it in cmd, and it opens its own prompt
Want to ask for a raise by the end of the year so now that my project is finally done, im gonna try booking up to pass a few
yea I remember
though really nowadays i only really use it during windows install
Shift+F10, get the CMD up
diskpart
I was like 1 question off passing the windows 101 one, so figured I could take 101 and 102 and sec+ and then knock out the splunk certs I took the classes for this summer at Splunk.conf
the other funny thing is sometimes the OS won't let you repartition because it doesn't identify the existing partitions correctly, which is obnoxious
clean drives of all partition data
then install windows on a clean disk, dont even setup partitions, just select the empty drive, click next
windows does the setup for you
EZ
my favorite thing about windows is when you install windows you need to turn off/remove all the other disks from your system
because i see the UI does fucky things if you dont clean the disk, liek trying to keep old recovery partitions and BS like that
because it's totally unpredictable where it will try to install its boot loader stuff
it'll usually zero in on wherever you have grub or whatever else installed and fuck it up for you 😄
drives me u pa fucking wall
ALWAYS, unplug all other disks when installing windows
after that, easy
all works fine
it's funny because I couldn't blame apple for doing that because it makes sense for them to assume you'd never use something else on a mac (especially an apple silicon one) but.... on a pc? come on man
unless you have some dumb disk with an old boot sector on it
which is fun when you next reboot 😄
and the mobo decides to try boot that one
I hit that landmine once. It put it somewhere odd or the old one I had from the old OS made it not load properly afterwards. So I had to unplug it and redo the entire process
Bc that was simply faster than trying to edit things
my very favorite was that weird period in time where you could partition a disk GPT
and then for compatibility reasons, shove an mbr inside it
way back in the early days of intel macs, I remember screwing up my macos partition to the point t wouldn't work, but windows still booted lmao
because the efi could still see the mbr and know to boot windows
it was funny :3
Who knew good sound could be so inexpensive! Enjoy full-range sound from the 10mm drivers, with extended bass and good mids and highs. Enjoy the convenience of the in-line microphone and play/pause bu
Monoprice, I applaud your audacious use of the word premium for 99 cent earbuds
I remember back in the early 2000s, Kia launched a car they advertised as "The Kia Amanti Premium Sedan"
idk I feel like it's an awfully presumptuous word to use to describe your product yourself. Like, that's a word that you want reviewers and customers to use to describe it. But self-proclaiming premium is weird.
Apple's new M3 Pro chip with a 12-core CPU offers only marginally faster CPU performance compared to the M2 Pro chip with a 12-core CPU, according to a Geekbench 6 result spotted today by Vadim Yuryev, co-host of the YouTube channel Max Tech. This is only a single benchmark result, so further results are needed to ensure accuracy.
that's kinda disappointing
Diskpart rocks
I use it on micro sd all the time
Depending on what I'm doing, pi/mister
ur a diskpart

meh.
I personally only trust linux to format/partition things correctly lool
even good ole gparted
I hate the way macos and windows both play the "I only understand what I want to" shit
-pops USB stick with the wrong partition formats on it into a windows machine- -windows completely ignores the usb stick's existence, even in diskmgmt-
actually I gotta say
the version of disk utility apple came out with in the last few years is a total piece of shit
I honestly don't know what happened there but it's just straight up garbage
every time I try to do something with it I end up unmounting the disk and looking up the correct things to type in the terminal window to accomplish what i want lmao
Yeah I wanted to format a disk ext4 from Windows for my pi recently and that was basically impossible, but I also didn't want to make a gparted disk... In the end I just formatted it ntfs and added the disk to my fstab so it was properly mounted... Pretty needless lol. I could have done something wrong
it's funny because the gui app is really just a front end for the cli utility
but about 50% of the time you try to do something interesting (more than 1 partition on a disk) in the gui disk utility it will fail badly
sometimes it fails just doing the most basic shit like repartitioning a usb stick with a single volume
god forbid you try to take something with APFS and redo it without APFS 😄
i think you can do it from wsl
my coworkers do that kinda crap all the time
one of my coworkers is just a straight up "make wsl do things that a real linux machine could by fucking with the registry and windows config" guru
I feel bad when coworkers come to me with WSL questions and I can't help them
Oh right, yeah probably
I just can't. when I had a dell laptop I used linux on it. and I have a mac lol 😄
áye, i need some advice. i overclocked my gpu to a stable degree. i stress tested it no crash no problem. but it seems ff didnt quite like that. i crashed way more often then usual now
well then your OC isnt as stable as you thought it was
pump the volts
sometimes software just doesn't like overclocks too, had this problem with Overwatch
contemporary hardware is barely worth overclocking, best getting your boost curve dialed in
well, 30 series card. i didn't see much benefit on my 4070 besides lower power draw
just because a benchmark/stress test says the OC is good, doesn't actually mean its good for everything
ff14 seems to not like OCs. why? only SE would know.
the solution for most people is just, dont OC
i got 10 fps tho
maybe it's using the wrong GPU
I forgot i was in tech chat.
"Of course all OCs are crazy"
the amount of ram a game uses doesnt really have anything to do with performance though.
try disabling the ingame framelimiter/vsync and the framelimiter for when its in the background and see if that helps
already did that
try switching between fullsceen and windowed and check temps of your hardware
also check for gpu utilization in the taskmanager
and remove your OC
i checked the temps 35-40 ish on all cores.
ill remove the oc
i restart the game. its now able to use 10 gb ram. havent even touch the settings and the oc
14 is a shitter when it comes to gpu overclock. I also suggest keeping that stock and doing uppies on system ram speed to get better minimum frame rates (in limsa or hunts)
(instability is due to cpu reads on vram since the client is a ps3 port with a coat of 64 bit spray paint over it)
yeah you shouldn't be getting 10 fps with those specs
yea i do hunt trains often. the personal low i got was 7fps
😂
alright ill remove the oc after the shb train cant miss the nuts
thanks for the advice people of tech support
crazy, because even in limsa with mods i dont get more than 3-4gb of ram usage
Tbh, the 3xxx series chips love good RAM speeds, you probally want to do some verificaton on that.
yeah I haven't had any problems in hunts with my laptop which is way lower spec so not sure why the low numbers (edit: ddr4 3200)
I mean, if you're on a hunt train with dozens and dozens of people and you're not limiting effects you'll get super low fps
that's worse than limsa
I don't do trains as much as spawning s ranks so the show up varies more. during na degen hours it can get pretty sparse even for current content S
@deep sapphire it's time

Brands: Husky, Daytona, Big Red, Larin, Arcan, US Jack, Esco, Sunex, TCE, Hein Werner, ZSP. Jack stands compared for stability (tip over) from side to side and forward movement. The jack stands were also compared for stability on a rubber mat to simulate soft asphalt. The jack stands were also compared for handle functionality and jack stand fai...
Why wouldn't you just spin up a Linux VM in Hyper-V then instead?
the adjustable ones

so nice to just open vscode and the project opens up instantly with wsl starting up
meanwhile if you use a linux vm, you have to use vscode ssh into it
they are perfectly safe just cant use shitty ones
plus throw the tire under the vehicle as well if you are working under it
just in case
yea use ones from legit brands that are rated higher than you need and use all of them, and then keep a tire there and maybe the jack too
one of the things to watch out for imho is the "this one from harbor freight looks identical to the name brand one! and it's 1/3 the price!"
lol the husky phoning it in
wow that esco
the zsp uses rivets?!
LMAO
like holy fuck dude
I think even someone inexperienced would look at that and feel sus
the weird feeling when even the cheapest one with double lock is less likely to kill you than that
You have a Tesla?
he does have a tesla!
Tbh, when you say it doesn't look safe, I can't decide if it's too safe, or not safe enough.
Idk, I'm no civil right or anyone good with physics. But how is something that's bipedal be more stable then a traditional quadlegged stand
Nothing with two legs is stable
maybe the long foot is as stable as it needs
They have 4 directions of bracing, it's just offset. I dunno if that matters for stability or not.
as safe as any other lift
you have to be sure it's parked on a step (wording) then can remove air line (in a 2 post lift setting on stops is to prevent damage to the hydraulics)
are those like 'official tesla sanctioned jack stands'?
just get hd truck jack stands lol
also was going to say that garage looks amazing
I am also a fan of the blue ^_^
it's my favorite color for cars lol
lol I was joking
as I mentioned, the kind that they use for heavy trucks
also, I think there are lifts/stands that are safe for like, changing wheels
but not necessarily for working under the car
Good old crank lift
That's a good point, I forgot that EVs are heavy af
finally got my Aeron
It needed tuning but it's good at forcing a proper posture when tuned correctly
ass doesn't hurt as much
So, I've got a quick jack, it's got a hard locking bar, and we've had a car on it continually for the last 3 years no problem.
Hydraulics have a lot of power
Also the locking bar Codingway mentioned is usually a physical stopper
Still looks good xD
as long as it's not connected to the internet
ah but gm radios are connected to the internet 😄
but what they're connected to is another question
why is it connected to wifi
my panel is connected to ethernet lol 😄
it's a 20 year old DSC panel with one of these hooked up to it 😄 https://www.eyezon.com/evl4.html
EyezOn
i wonder if you could vlan it and then make that vlan only allow traffic to/from the alarm company
it's weird to think this sorta thing isn't really a thing
but aside from some traffic management on your network which is a good idea, I don't really think the alarm system is a big deal
supposing someone gains access to it, what all can they do? wake you up at 3am by powering the siren? 😄
unless someone gets access to your alarm company and then exploits your alarm system with that info, you're probably ok because they won't know where it is anyway
I... think I'm starting to feel the crunch of my computer setup taking up too much space in the living room lol
wtf the 5800x3d was released april last year?
how time flies

it doesn't feel like it with how good it is
old socket brah
does anyone know how to fix this stupid bug
like i want my preview window
oh
nvm
wow
restarting file explorer works
take it up with Microsoft 😛
Modern automatics yeah probably
Especially CVTs
Aren't they like a dozen or more layers of two-sided gears rotating inside of each other?
I can't even tell how many gears that is
4 forward
I still think transmissions are like the peak of car engineering
CVTs are basically just two cones with a V belt
made of shrapnel-embedded fuse
fuck CVT
cheap for OEM, garbage for any application where you have more than 150lb-ft of torque
you know what I learned
Toyota has been using them a lot in their entry level cars
and I havent really hard of any problems
so maybe its just Nissan ones
eh, they're quite literally fine as long as you don't put any torque on them
so for like, a corolla base model grocery getter, it's fine
but you wouldn't put one in a corolla GR unless you enjoy grenades
nissan's fatal mistake, as per The Usge, is that they put a fucking CVT on a higher than usual base torque engine (the QR25DE) and the thing is so fucking marginal that if you tune the QR at all it kills the transaxle
@deep sapphire
lol
just a small fire, nothing to worry about
Lmfao I have no idea
this sorta happened to me
back when Phenom II was new
I wanted to upgrade so I bought a new board and a Phenom II X4 955 or w/e and I didnt even realize my case didnt have ground standoffs installed
so I went to put it in and then I saw something go up in smoke and it was my CPU fan controller
sometimes we learn through pain and suffering
amd bros...
i once replaced a mainboard on a printer, fired it up and one of the chips shot out a jet of fire instantly
Nyoooo
tight ass angle too. Asking for trouble
im glad modern cases come with them installed, I think I had an antec case and I look back and question why the fuck it didnt have them in the first place
because pc cases used to be shit
The whole device runs on an Ultron OS skin over Android 6.0 with a well-optimized 800-by-480 pixel touchscreen for seamless operation.
it's 2023... why is this thing shipping with android 6
this is true
sharp corners
cable management was non existent
hell I remember when the Corsair 800D came out
and cable management was a feature
we were all like HOLY SHIT

i got my dad to take a hole saw to my Antec 900
so i could take advantage of the 2mm of space between the motherboard tray and the right door
THATS THE CASE I HAD
oh nah, you guys forgot the best part, the steel chassis with razor blades no deburred edges
plus fuckin IDE cables didn't help things
if you tried to pick up the case without the side panel on you had a 50% chance of losing a digit
Late but I usually hear Toyota usually have the best cvt compared to other companies
But also just fuck Nissan
just needs a zalman cooler
I dunno if AMD fan mounting is the same as it was back then
but holy shit was that awful
you always felt like you were gonna break something
intel
wasnt much better
7950 GT 😎
i went freezer 7 pro > cnps 9700 led > xigmatek s1283
ran a 50% overclock on that E4400
member the cool Nvidia one
the stock cooler screws directly into a backplate but some coolers still use the shitty clip on mount system. the gf's previous cooler was mounted this way before I swapped it out with my old cooler
yeah that clip thing was what I remembered lol
there was like no tension on her cooler, felt so bad

also the cvt fluid/filter change interval is double what it should be (assuming people ever do it)
I liked Antec 300 personally
I remember getting this budget Cooler Master case as my first one back in 2010
then I moved onto a higher-end CM Storm one when the brand still existed
The dumb thing about that is you know that already happened before and he decided to tempt fate turning it on a 2nd time and lighting it on fire again for the views
Imagine if it burned down the entire case then instead of simply being out a GPU? heh
I had a Cooler Master case at one point too, it was fine
That was the "O11 Dynamic" case of like 2008 heh
Then they fell off the face of the earth for case design after that gen
I vaguely remember Antec
I also vaguely remember that weird obsession with the military/gun aesthetic
I brought it up here a few times
like airport security seeing a gun-themed mobo and then tearing it apart
Antec are still in business I believe, still making cases and PSUs
yeah, though they kinda faded from the public eye
Ooh newegg overhauled the website design for Black Friday deals on ... checks calendar... November 6th.
Looked at what Antec offers now, and I guess the issue probably is their stuff all skews towards the low to mid-range of cases. https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007583 1066714949
yeah I bet it's all okay, just not top tier
Hey y'all. With Black Friday/Cyber Monday right around the corner, a friend of mine was looking into upgrading to a desktop from the laptop that's on it's last legs.
The hard cap is $1,300, They want to play Baulder's Gate 3, Sims 4, and try to get into FFXIV.
Could you put together a PCPartPicker you think would be good? I put one together but getting a second opinion is always good.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Radeon RX 7600, NZXT H5 Flow ATX Mid Tower
1080p is the target resolution.
I'd suggest raiding https://www.logicalincrements.com/ for a general spec, most of the money these days goes into the GPU's, but if they're ground-upping, I'd suggest considering a 7xxx ryzen at the least to future-proof them if they want to upgrade in the future, the 5xxx is the end of it's line.
you can "downgrade" the 5600X to a 5600 and get very little performance loss
You pay extra for the X
I'm admittedly biased against NZXT cases so you can get a Lancool 216 for around the same price if that's more their thing
I'm trying my damndest to try to not go over 1k. As they still need to buy a KB+M and a monitor too.
a 5600 will save you $9 looks like
this style drives me nuts. Trying to do something interesting but the case itself is still a small rectangular box
eek
those always look like they graft an interesting-sh front panel onto a nondescript case box
Ryzen 7s don't come with a stock cooler.
DeepCool AK400 if you need one
Oh, and I think I should mention that I'm mailing the finished computer to them.
Because they live a few states away
the first line in Superb on https://www.logicalincrements.com/ looks good tbh, $1122 (don't tell Hank I said AMD GPU)
it leaves them a bit short for monitor/mouse/kb but black friday coming so shop around
that's fun. yea a lot of processors don't come with them anymore
i wonder how well those tower coolers ship
you're probably going to want to get an instapak thing to jam in there to hold the cpu cooler and gpu in place when shipping
Yeah an odd mixture of old case sensibilities with trying to smash some newer ideas into it
BRO
I HAD A FUCKIN SHIRT FROM HIM
I WISH I KNEW WHERE IT WENT
it said "unfortunately the motherboard tray is not removable"

That's a whole new anxiety I didn't know existed.
Mailing a computer and hoping the UPS doesn't fucking destroy it.
My major concern would be the GPU, given how expensive it is. Though I suppose I could mail that separately.
Why don't they order the parts and put it together?
Or just buy a prebuilt?
After you account for packaging and shipping costs, a prebuilt is going to be pretty similar performance
go for it
That's cheating
Also if spending you want, there's always the option to spend it on Piper
In this episode we dive into the how Qualcomm is looking to be a new challenger to both Apple and Intel. This was thanks in part to a purchase of the firm Nuvia in 2021 made from ex-Apple engineers.

WOW
THIS LEGIT?
Buy me gunpla stuff daddy
XING DONG
Throw your wallet at this :3:3:3:3::3
Jesus
nurms is not a tool to be used lightly
Mmm now it's my turn to see if my paycheck allows for that airbrush gdi
Lol I'm not buying that rofl
That's worse then what I'm using
I use my airbrush everyday : P
...model kits
Mmm nope should save for a better enclosure
So are they trying to say their mobile phone specced CPU outperforms the "desktop" M2 Max by 12%?
I guess?
Of course the M3 cpus apple claims are "up to" 30% faster than M2 so
Hmm they have some benchmarks showing it running at 80W so that's clearly not going to be doing that in a phone
Twice as expensive lol
I've added the iwata eclipse to my bday list
For now I need to figure out a fume extraction method so I can spray lacquers
That's actually crazy
We also quote each over from those stupid french "overclocking" videos
"there is a hole in ze motherboard"
we must fill it with thermal paste!
They might be real, idk
i'm suddenly reminded of a silly thing about overclocking a mac plus by using an oscillator from a slurpee machine
It looked like they were planting small explosives from the amount of fire/damage lol. Those were on Google videos but I think I found them on YouTube later
idk i thought that was what happened when you tried to extreme OC an AMD chip
or at least, back in the day
they didn't do thermal throttling they just went kaboom
LMAO
is that fukken grey primer?!
how the fuck do you use it
because the consistency is so weird
Yeah see I've never had a chip without an ihs and temperature safety stuff
Black
ah. good good
the grey is
weird AF
the consistency is different from the usual black or white ones
Just spray at lower psi
I never gave issue with grey
For primer I always spray lower psi
And all consistency fucks off
One must always prime seriously.
OH! SARAH. I got my compressor hooked back up, so the house's compressed air network is back online.
Unlimited clean air for airbrushing and computer cleaning.
Hand held compressor. Cant control psi
Unironically? Get a small compressor with a small tank, and it'll serve you well for dozens of things.
Ayeeee
Yeah those suck, there's your massive problem there lmfao
Tbh, the hand-helds are fine for non-detail/non-controlled work.
It's just when you want to do fine stuff it sucks.
I keep a beater brush around with a handheld if my roomies want to do anything because they don't respect the nice brushes enough.
well, what can you do, small place of living, having inconsistent employment locations
I mean I've always carried mine around lol
They make small compressors by most air brush companies designed to work with their fittings, I like a small pancake compressor though with a 1gal/4l tank I can tuck under the desk and just use adapters.
Huh, my GPU just crashed turning on a jetbrains app. That's mildly concerning.
Yup, the i915 driver is knacked. That's fun.
Fucking jetbrains applications suck
I love em.
Having a 100% standardized coding env for my various languages but with good parsers and debugger integration is 10/10
Nano and vscode is all I need
Nano, jetbrains, and obsidian for me.
I fell and knocked my pc case against concrete, and now my pc shorts our circuit breaker at random times
What recourse do I have to fix it?
From what I understand I could have dislodged something and something is touching something it shouldn't
Check the cables to see if one got sliced.
Anything near an edge is suspect, and the damage would be nearby, the other possibliity is a loose solder joint in the PSU, if you can steal one for a couple hours (exceeding the average circuit breaker pop), it's a good check.
I fell from the bottom flight of stairs and hit a bottom corner of the case against the concrete walkway
Probally the PSU the, the PSU's /generally/ on the bottom of the case in the "back" corner.
I replaced the power supply with a different one, but the same shorting issue happens
I'm just not sure where to look/what to do since I'm not pc savvy
did you replace the cables as well when you swapped the psu?
ok for the future: many brands arent compatible to cables from other brands
I had to have a completely different set of cables
alright well then check the other remaining cables, check if anything is loose, like card, cpu cooler, ram etc and check if your motherboard is touching the case somewhere maybe
could also be that some metallic fragment broke off and is now below the motherboard
ya a grounding post couldve snapped
My spouse mentioned rebuilding it, I assume just fully debuilding it and making sure there's no debris before rebuilding
ya itd be a good idea because you could closely inspect everything
Yarp, that'd be the next step imo.
Yeah we thought replacing the power supply would do it but no
Eh, that's the usual first step.
This has been lit up however since we've had that thing
Yeah methodically reseating everything would make sense for the next
Just all the time
I don't think that's causing the shorts but i also don't think it's supposed to do that
Software controlled, it might be running on the always-on lines tho.
If it wasn't before, but is now, it's possible the mobo itself is damaged, but that'd be odd for a bottom drop uniless the GPU wiggled itself hard or something.
It's the only thing that weighs anything in a build like that.
Oh the scuffs are on the top at the back 🫠
could be that a bit there is bent just enough to make contact with the board. guess you will see more when you take it apart
I'm hoping that no internals are damaged and maybe just rehousing in a new case would eliminate the issue
yeah that's a good test
My thoughts would be that you buckled the case enough that it's shorting out on the back of the motherboard
Is the margin thin enough to do that by denting the corner?
not likely, standoffs are a thing after all
would have to have warped the case pretty bad
The side profile looks intact, but of course that isn't the end all be all
I mean if you pop a rivet or two a panel can fold inwards easily
But really something has to be shorting for it to trip a breaker
LED on motherboard suggestes to me maybe something on the board got knocked loose and the motherboard is in fault mode
something something, read the motherboard manual to see what that light means?
Just thinking out loud, I do get a few of these scenarios in my shop
Yep rtfm something something
mobos also have beep codes, IF it has a pc speaker, which many dont
but they cost like 5$, at your local parts place, jaycar for me
I course of action would be:
Remove everything and launch it outside the box
Case 1:
It boots, the case is probably shorting it
Case 2:
It doesn't boot and it's probably some internal damage. Then I would test bench all the individual parts :P
Yep, the most useful thing in my kit can be a piezo speaker
I wish more mobos had seven segment diag displays
I know a guy, who absolutely was not this guy (it was this guy) who forgot to use mobo risers on a build once
short city
ive got a few which are like, 20 years old by now, ripped out of old company computers
thankfully I was able to add them and it was fine
still use them, always put one in my current computer
oof yea ive seen this more often than i like to admit
amateur hour
it was many years ago
There was a period of time where I had many PCs in the shop that were not booting because of this. There was a transition period from integrated stand offs and screw in ones
2015?¿ I think
ive seen "professionals" do some really dumb shit, i dont trust anyone with my PC at all.
I don't trust myself lol
I don't work on my own PC and I've been doing this for years
I mean yeah, but I rather not work on my own PC
Pain in the aasssss
yeah a good quality, good size case, does wonders
small cases are nice for Simple builds
I like sff
as long as you dont need to change much ever
A good challenge and good for me who moves a lot
but once you start adding extra drives, and other stuff, it gets painful
Oof
The thing is that the shorts arent reproducible
O
That's.... definitely internal damage
Itself lol
like which piece 😭
Could take just one thing in one of the power stages for example
My bet is always motherboard or cpu
Probably motherboard
They are just chillin
I'm still debating whether I should buy a new airbrush or build a new spray paint booth
...or a new pc
I wanna eat it
How can we diagnose if there's damage to a specific part of the build
What reading on that indicates damage?
What I would do is:
Memcheck for ram
Run spymark and see if it trips:
if it does check event logs for any indication if its the gpu or cpu
if not, and probally not something you can do but; I would put each individual parts in another system and see if sometihng shorts
Shorts are really annoying to diagnose, even for me who has a full shop for it lol
Especially intermittent ones
Re: build from last night.
I could also give them my current card. I was planning on upgrading anyway to a 6750 XT and the 5600 XT should run Sims, BG3, and XIV just fine all the while saving them 400 USD
We do have a second build that we could do
Oh? I was looking at the website that was linked and the $1122 was suggesting the afformentioned 6750 XT
swap the gpu into the second system
