Eh I probably know what it is, but not familiar with the name

I didn’t name that was it’s name

Think the DAC on my new Asgard amp/dac combo is busted

#

Worked for one song then I tried to start another and it cut out after a second. Reconnecting the USB would let you try it again and once again sound would cut out after 1 sec.

#

Plugged in the Modi via RCA inputs bypassing the onboard DAC and it works fine

odd sand
#

Hmm I let it cool down and trying it again and now it's been working for over 5mins now without shitting out again so hmm

#

If it does go out again in a few mins maybe it's an overheating issue then

If you watch it enough it's super annoying, it's probally a good sign it's time to cough up a little dough.

I dont want to pay 12 a month

ublock and privacy badger work for most

but most ppl dont know about privacy badger

12 a month is insane with my countrys average income and quite a lot of balkan and third world countries

cerulean talon

That's fair, I'm mildly surprised they don't currency shift to something reasonable in foreign countries tbh.

Tbh, I'm kinda waiting to see if they start cracking down on family sharing like amazon did w/ prime.

Or if they just kinda care that little about it in the grand scheme of things.

Hi here

Are there any recommendations for MMO mouse?

Preferably Logicool (other brands welcomed)

logitech g600

👍

#

I have had it for years

no problems

#

downside is

#

it is a laser mouse

not optical

so it wont be great in fps games

but for MMOs its king

cerulean talon
#

I never could quite get into MMO mice.

#

But they don't really make em big enough.

lost python
#

if you can find a G600 that is, because iirc they are not being made anymore

vast apex
#

Next best option?

#

G600 doesn't seem to be available

cerulean talon
#

Imma be real.

#

Go find somewhere you can touch them.

lost python
#

alternatively there is the corsair scimitar or the razer naga (which also features exchangeable button-sets if you only want for example 6 or 12 buttons)

real edge
cerulean talon

😛

#

Legitimately though, I went through a half-dozen mmo mice trying to find one that really fit, and none of them really worked for me because they just don't sit right in the palm of my hand.

#

Mind you, my hand is freakin huge for computing devices, but there's always something about how it sits that's hard to go off of what other people like.

vast apex
#

Ok

#

This isn't helping. G600 isn't available.

Youtube will probably "patch" it again, but the developers working on Ublock Origin will bring out a fix for the Youtube patch as well. So basically it's an arms race

I was thinking about going intel for my next build but it looks like I'm gonna be waiting for 15th gen if anything changes at all

umbral moss
#

I don't believe anything will change, honestly

#

intel's engineering pipeline isn't quite flushed out yet, they're still iterating on the dogwater design they started before gelsinger took over

#

probably won't see a revolutionary uarch until 2026 the earliest

#

coincidentally the same time their new fab process drops, assuming they get that to work

latent grotto
#

Guess I'm just gonna be amd

umbral moss
#

it takes a long time to develop a product to market, especially one that's so fuckin complicated and has an external reliance on an equally untested process

people saying gelsinger will save intel may be right, but the real results won't come until the first engineering projects he personally approved start to ship

@vast apex @modern iris your best options are the corsair scimitar, razer Naga I think, and the aerox 9

Personal preference for corsair as the numpad can slide back and forth depending on how you like to hold your mouse

Or hand size

#

Just make sure you get one of the refresh models and not the older ones

And if you aren't a fan of black mice because of a specific color scheme, surface gaming makes a good vinyl wrap for cheap

I think evga has an mmo mouse but, it just looks weird tbh

Did a clean install of W11 about 6 months ago, as most of the kinks were worked out of that and I guess unlike most ppl I liked the changes they made for the most part.

odd sand
#

Hold the power button for 5 secs. It can't crash any harder than it already has heh

#

Also sometimes less is more. If you know it ran fine on a GPU driver from last year then try an older one

#

Otherwise see if you can make sure the fans on the GPU are working, maybe one died and its thermals are going off the chart. Unless its a laptop

would pop a admin command prompt and do

sharp star
#

lol yeah

odd sand
#

Try to scavenge old cases maybe.

#

Craigslist ads or similar site in your country might be a good way to scrap together stuff

#

When I built my new one I rebuilt my old parts in a new case and an old GPU for my niece and nephew. Then took other old parts from myself and my friend and got a 12100F for my parents to replace the Core i3-3220 I built them in 2012. That system was $300 but something was starting to fail in it intermittently.

#

Same with the previous old system the nephew had, it was a 3770K but the onboard USB was dying and had trouble booting sometimes so

#

At least that's what they claimed. I gave them a USB riser card and he said it didn't help, but I'm not convinced he even put it in lol bc it was still in the box

#

And knowing his personality (the dads), if he installed it once I doubt he would have pulled it back out and put it back in the box.

#

So if I can fix it up, I was thinking of giving it to one of the local schools if they have a use for it.

sharp star
#

One of my static friends has an i5 4460, don't remember the GPU

#

I scraped up a new-ish system that can run most modern titles well

odd sand
#

Yeah I gave the 3770K to them in fall 2019 I think and they commented on being surprised how fast it was still despite being like 7 years old

#

Granted, that is probably bc their systems were ultra potato at that point, but also probably bc they hadn't built a new system since SSDs became the norm for boot drives

#

And 3rd gen is right when the rapid mudflation of CPUs stopped, so it had really long legs compared to CPUs even 2-3 years previous.

#

In the 2000-2010 window you were lucky to get 18 months out of a CPU before you started feeling it was losing pace and by 3 years it was almost painful

#

Remember playing Brothers in Arms when it came out and my average fps was like 25 and in fights would get down to like 15 lol

#

Meanwhile today a game dips to 60 and its like "god, this is fscking garbage! optimize this shit!" deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerp

How to do a clean reinstall of your drivers

Step 1: Download Device Driver Uninstaller.

Step 2: Download the newest driver from your graphics card manufacturers website: AMD and/or Nvidia.

Step 3: Disconnect your internet and restart your PC in safe mode.

Step 4: Run Device Driver Uninstaller and click on 'Clean and Restart' after you select your device type and GPU.

Step 5: After the PC restarts and you are disconnected from the internet, install the drivers you downloaded from Step 2.

Step 6: After you install them, restart your PC one final time and reconnect your internet.

sly elk
#

I have had at least 3 microwaves just die of old age

#

a few more die from things catching on fire

#

or rather, afterwards they smelled so bad I didn't wanna use it anymore

#

the last 3 I have just died from normal use?

potent arrow
odd sand
#

Actually I had 2, but I don't remember what happened with the other one. I think I may have taken it back to my parents houes and they sold it at a rummage

#

It was from the 80s so it will probably last forever, but it just weighed like 50lbs so I hated lugging ot

sly elk
#

so the last one died after a good 6 years or so

#

the one before that lasted like a month or a week or something stupidly disappointing, but I had it sitting in the box brand new for a year.. so it was out of warranty ;_;

odd sand
#

I'm in an apartment built in 2008 and it still has an original stainless steel microwave hanging above the stove so I think you guys just buy crappy microwaves heh

sly elk
#

nah not anymore, the 6 year old one was a panasonic, I replaced it with a panasonic. They are awesome.

#

lasting 6 years with my brothers is a damn miracle

#

I mean, I know you shouldn't just blindly trust a brand, but I've never really been disappointed with panasonic stuff

mortal condor
#

I would hope no one is buying cheap off-brand microwaves

odd sand
#

This place is all Frigidaire. Only minor complaint is the stove is a coil range and the rent isnt cheap so it should really be better

#

Also the washer/dryer stack randomly thinks its mid-cycle and makes beeping sounds every 20mins then

#

And getting it to clear the bugged state can be difficult. Have to start and stop a cycle multiple times

sly elk
#

yikes!

mortal condor
#

Parent's house is Whirlpool everything

#

Including the washer/dryer

odd sand
#

It doesn't happen all that often thankfully but it seems to be random

#

Bc I only do laundry like every 2 weeks so sometimes its been like 10 days since its been used and randomly the beeping starts 🤷‍♀️

sly elk
#

ya know, I have never had a problem with a whirlpool fridge or dryer but I'm never, ever buying a whirlpool washing machine ever again

#

and iirc the microwave that died really fast was kenmore but it was actually whirlpool with a sticker slapped on

odd sand
#

Sears sold off their brands, so probably Whirlpool bought the naming rights

sly elk
#

my last whirlpool washer crapped out about 13 months after I bought it ><

#

nah amazon did iirc

odd sand
#

Isn't planned obsolescence great?

sly elk
#

kenmore used other companies for their products too lol

#

i think post-sears, amazon used it for an lg fridge or something

#

idk

mortal condor
#

They haven't had any issues in the 3 years they've been in the house with anything other than the fridge which had to be replaced because it just died out of nowhere

sly elk
#

the washer was a replacement for almost the exact same machine that lasted 5 years - but it was on top of a shitty floor that wasn't level so the machine was shaking when we used it, so I was hella impressed it lasted 5 years

#

but the way the 13 month old one failed pissed me off

odd sand
#

My friend was in his condo for like 3-6 months when the water line and icemaker both needed replacing already

sly elk
#

it blew both bearings (and the floor in our garage here IS level, so there's no excuse)

#

and I brought a repair dude by for a consult and he was like dude don't waste your $$, I've seen this exact machine fail hundreds of times

odd sand
#

Not surprised. Even with cars, it's virtually impossible to get a quality aftermarket wheel bearing as well. They were all sold to Chinese companies and are shit now

sly elk
#

but really idk

#

my fridge is >9 years old and still works fine

odd sand
#

I had a Saturn SC2 and I'd buy the highest quality wheel bearing they made for it and I still chewed thru them in like 25k miles. The crappier one would last 15k

sly elk
#

but I had to get it exchanged when I first got it, because the original wasn't built right and the door seal leaked badly lol

#

meh that shouldn't happen

#

I'd blame the engineers or whoever bean count'd it

odd sand
#

Replaced the wheel bearings at least half a dozen times bc I owned it from 60k to 240k miles

sly elk
#

the only car I've ever had to replace suspension parts on was our original 300 lol. It liked eating tie rod ends.

#

the funny thing is the suspension design came from the mercedes s class of that era (2002-ish?) and apparently those were also known for eating tie rod ends?

#

some cars like eating brake pads lol

odd sand
#

brakes and wheel bearings and tie rods all tend to be related bc if the brakes aren't smooth that's also vibrating everything else

sly elk
#

yep

#

to this day I've never changed the brakes on any vehicle I've owned o_O

#

had them checked, yes!

#

i had a friend back in the day that had an accord. dude needed new brakes every 20k

#

hhehe I wonder if people named jesus get honda accords so they can make that joke

odd sand
#

How often do you sell vehicles? Because even for a well maintained vehicle its totally normal to have to replace pads at like 50-80k at the longest. And at that point you might as well do rotors as well to avoid any vibration or warping

#

Bc it's hard to turn them down and keep them perfectly even

sly elk
#

lol the record was on the 300c, 107k

#

the other 300 had about 67k?

odd sand
#

wtf kinda compound they use on those to not replace pads in 107k miles?

#

Really thick ceramic and you did mostly city driving at lower speeds?

sly elk
#

I mean not really, that car had more highway driving than the others, but back then I was pretty chill about my brake usage

#

i tend to keep longer following distances and drop speed over longer distances

#

though, I really don't think I drive that smoothly anymore

#

i do try to be smooth on the brakes though, maybe that helps?

odd sand
#

OIC well I suppose that's the other way yeah if you do a ton of highway driving theoretically you won't do a lot of braking

#

Reminds me of when I was coming back from Tahoe a few years ago, it was Sunday evening so it was just a neverending line of cars. So I used engine braking most of the way out of the mountains. Bet the ppl behind me were thinking my brake lights were busted heh

sly elk
#

lol

#

yea that's my 'sitting in traffic on the 405' trick as well

#

I'll go a little slower than the car in front of me to get a nice gap going so I don't have to do that stop-go-stop-go thing

odd sand
#

Everyone eles going downhill kept braking and braking off and on, I just put it into like 4th and coasted down

sly elk
#

it is true that if you do that people will start lane changing into your lane, but they still leave enough of a gap

odd sand
#

Gotta get 20ft ahead so they get home 0.2 seconds faster

sly elk
#

oh my favorite peoplew are the ones who do that hella aggressively

#

like you see them weaving all over the freeway then you both take the same offramp and they end up right next to you waiting for the red light lmao

#

then i pull up next to them making that face

deep sapphire
#

you get 2 years max out of them

#

too much heat cycles

#

but

deft scaffold
#

ahhhh sucks

deep sapphire
#

we dont really know yet

deft scaffold
#

i think for now ill just underclock and disable hyperthreading

#

see if it can be somewhat reliable

deep sapphire
#

yeah give it a shot

deft scaffold
#

sadge ah well thanks for helping us out

deep sapphire
#

np, other things I think could be causing this is the battery or maybe ram

#

most laptops even if plugged in still require the battery to be in

#

but right now im just kinda throwing shit at the wall

deft scaffold
#

hmmm i did upgrade the ram to 64 from the stock 32 but it didnt change things, the battery is plugged in and i can take it to uni

#

yeah no worries lol i think it's just cursed

#

new motherboard from january of this year too xD

deep sapphire
#

yeah going forward just buy a cheap everyday carry notebook and have a dedicated gaming system at home

#

they just dont last

#

and im sure you spent a cool 2500 bucks on it

#

so sucks that goes to waste after only 2 years

deft scaffold
#

yeah probably a good idea with how good amd apus are getting nowadays

#

well luckily i got this heavily discounted, but maybe now i know the reason lmfao

deep sapphire
#

ha yeah probably

deft scaffold
#

but hey thanks again

#

just gonna run it sloooow

deep sapphire
#

yeah if you need something for school just some cheapy low budget notebook should serve you well enough, then spend the money on something good for when you go back home

#

can always remote in if you wanna play on the go anyway

People in this day and age not having a burner email

Theres a specialist who has "shadow" in his email

Another has cute

#

DO YOU NOT FEEL SHAME

#

Nice

sly elk
#

I fear I might be over custom gaming computer builds lol

#

i wonder how long it'd take the liquid in that setup to warm up though

#

that is a loot of thermal mass

#

what, 6 360mm normal radiators worth?

#

and that'sa ssuming those aren't 420mm rads

#

hehe it'd be funny to use a 420mm radiator

royal forge
#

hmmm

#

my mechanical keyboard has extra custom keys

#

but i cant seem to get them to open a program directly

#

it's always basically "opens search bar, search program name, hit enter"

#

its using the uhhhhh

#

whats that thing called

#

keychron stuff

#

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

#

VIA

sly elk
#

quick tangent but.. I still don't regret buying that folding phone lol

celest violet
#

@sly elk this is most of my workbench area

lost python
#

This looks a lot like back then when I was at gigabyte

#

Just more modern

#

Lmao nice

sly elk
#

the workbench is adjustable shelving

celest violet
#

Yeah lmao easy to adjust so I can wheel my chairs under them

celest violet
deep sapphire
sly elk
#

hey hey he has a stanley made in the us with global materials tape measure

#

i'm a sucker for made in the USA

#

actually the worst case of misleading 'made in' I've seen is dygma's keyboards -_- they put the european flag on the box and make a big fuss about their company being european....
But the keyboards are pretty much 100% chinese.

celest violet
#

Classic

#

Nah the best part is the breaker that blows when the space heater turns on and the manager refuses to repair it

deep sapphire
#

probably just on the wrong amp breaker

#

needs to be put on a 30 or 40 amp

celest violet
#

Honestly given that it works just fine in the managers office

#

I think its just laziness to get it done

deep sapphire
#

well yeah

#

managers are nice and warm

#

better run some furmark benchies

sly elk
#

chances are that will consume the same amount of power and trip the breaker haha

celest violet
#

I just use the heat gun when necessary

manic turret
#

Which one should I get?

dull garnet
#

neither

sly elk
#

i like the all-pink one better

manic turret
#

I personally love the 2ds

sly elk
#

I have a blue one laying around, I really don't use it much

odd sand
sly elk
#

the flip up feet are made in china haha

#

no seriously they had a post on reddit where they were like

#

"our product dude went to china and here's what they came up with!"

#

lmao they didn't even use european engineers

#

a lot of kickstarter stuff works that way though

odd sand
#

I got two of them for my niece and nephew refurbed from Nintendo for 50 each a few years ago

sly elk
#

ah the 2ds?

#

I think the design on them is pretty much bulletproof, no?

odd sand
#

Mostly. First thing one of them did after opening the present was drop it 5ft onto hardwood floors heh

#

Game cart popped out but it was okay. May have chipped the corner plastic

#

Like not even 60 seconds later lol

manic turret
#

I want to mod it, I like the idea of it not having a clamshell design and it feeling more like a gameboy

#

I heard it was really comfortable

odd sand
#

I still haven't finished dq9 on my ds lol

manic turret
#

Thought it would be perfect to play some old Pokémon and ds titles I used to love

odd sand
#

Only downside is the screens are tiny

manic turret
#

I have quite a large 3ds game collection

#

So I have the a pikachu 3ds xl but I’m too scared taking it everywhere xD

deep sapphire
#

jesus christ

odd sand
#

Ahh so it would be a backup so you don't lose it out and about. Gotcha

manic turret
#

The 2DS seems a bit more durable

deep sapphire
#

thats funny

manic turret
#

Yep!

celest violet
deep sapphire
#

thats fuckin funny

odd sand
#

My ghetto kotatsu is a blanket and a ceramic heater on low

celest violet
#

It's the American way

odd sand
#

I have all the wood for a coffee table and the infrared heater for kotatsu but haven't finished it

celest violet
#

The microwave is in the break room and I have to walk through customers and I'd rather die

sly elk
#

ya know, one of my beefs with that razer viper ultimate is the charging dock sometimes just... doesn't work for no reason

#

it's just plugged into my desktop, in fact I think it's plugged straight in via extensio ncables lol

#

but sometimes it just doesn't turn on

#

and that sometimes always seems to be when I want to charge my fucking mouse!

copper monolith
potent arrow
#

Generic china board

sly elk
#

cutting out the middle man lol

#

TIL corsair makes a desk

#

i wonder at what point people turn to corsair for all of their needs lmao

copper monolith
#

Royal kludge is also a china brand right?

potent arrow
#

Yerp

#

But they basically all the same : P

cerulean talon
potent arrow
#

I kinda like the kludge just because of how long it's been around thus more community mods

sly elk
#

there's also literally anything qmk compatible

#

i think once you go split there's no going back lol

potent arrow
#

I have a few split boards

#

Nothing I like yet

sly elk
#

ok fair I should've acknowledged that keyboard preference is a personal thing xD

potent arrow
#

Unironically it's because of my rsi, havnt found one that positioned correctly

#

Like the tent angle is a huge deal for me

sly elk
#

o_O you mean like, even the kind with physically separate halves

potent arrow
#

Yes, I prefer each half tented at a specific angle

#

But none of them had a good enough adjustment system for the legs

sly elk
#

that sucks 😦

#

i don't have tenting hardware on my keyboard but it's worked ok for me without it

#

but i could see tenting being more comfortable

potent arrow
#

I want to make my own eventually anyways so no loss

cerulean talon
#

If I could get the keys for a MS ergo cherry compat, I'd build a mech MS ergo.

#

And it would be my ultimate keyboard.

sly elk
#

that would be fun

deep sapphire
sly elk
#

and my retort to that is: How much does a pint of milk weigh? How about 1 gallon and a quart?

#

how many quarts are in a gallon?

deep sapphire
#

5 hot dogs

sly elk
#

lol

#

the fun part about KM being the standard measure of distance is it sounds faster

#

doing 120kmh sounds cooler than doing 75mph

#

otoh, doing 100mph feels like a big deal

#

just like 100f is fucking hot

#

and 115f is insanely hot

#

and 130f is the idle temp on your average ryzen

cerulean talon
#

A quart is literally a quarter of a gallon. 😄

#

Also, a liter of milk isn't 1 kg.

#

Also, 1 gallon of water is 8-ish lbs.

#

As a 5 gallon jug of water is 40-ish-odd-lbs

#

The lovely metric conversion of 1g = 1ml is only valid for water at stp, and nothing else.

cerulean talon
#

They're not that heavy tbh.

#

Yeah, carry one per arm.

#

The correct way!

#

Most people here carry them hugged to their chest.

#

Seriously.

#

Learn to lift.

#

I've never done isos like that, so no idea.

#

At one point I was doing 375lb squats, while I weighed 375lbs. Was very proud to hit the body weight squats. 😄

#

I'm too heavy to chinup, pushups is easy tho.

#

Bench press is literally my favourite exercise tho.

#

I started at 25 reps of 125

#

But I'm "blessed" with broad shoulders and a powerful chest to go with it.

sly elk
#

it's sarcasm, right?

real edge
#

so like I said lol but still, nice to see some worthwhile vram mid tier gpus

#

the hopium is that the old 4070 and 4080 will get price cuts and these new ones will slot in at the old price point

#

curious to see what connector they will use

real edge
#

well

#

the AD103 die is what the current 4080 uses

#

the AD102 die is better

#

the AD102 die is what the 4090 uses

umbral moss
#

yeah, but the 4090 is already cut down so there's this weird "let's just keep subdividing the bad GPU" logic going on

real edge
#

that is the same die that the huge AI gpus use

#

and those AI gpus use like 142/144 of the SKU

umbral moss
#

us peasant gamers haven't gotten a full-function GPU since like, the GTX580 wearycarby

real edge
#

4090 uses less and the 4080Super will use even less

#

but its better than the AD103 one still

umbral moss
#

give me all of the SMs you cowards wearycarby

real edge
#

the 4070 upgrade is the biggest deal imo

#

going from a cut down AD104 die with room to spare
