@cerulean talon purpur
does enabling all my processor like this help with my fps?
I've never talked in this channel before
That is some quality purple nods
So I had an FPS question if someone were willing to indulge me.
This is my pc build.
My FPS in cities (limsa/Uldah) is about 40-50fps, in zones with people usually around 80~ and in empty zones I tend to get FPS around 100-110fps.
Is that performance to be expected, and tangentially to that what is it that is holding me back
sounds like cpu holding you back hard this is in laby on my laptop (i5-12500H + 3050 @ 1080/60)
so would enabling all my processor boost up my fps or nah
using all threads helps with performance in general
i have a ryzen 9 3900x but when i play baldur gate 3 while being in a crowded area my fps drops down to like 40 fps
how do i enable them
no point in reducing that unless you're micro managing bazed off zen chiplets (or old software that should have affinity set in windows)
r9 3900x is 24 thread so you're set
if performance sucks relative to graphics would double check the ram is clocked properly
2400 (non XMP profile) speed loses a lot of performance to 3200 or 3600 (whatever the sticks are rated for)
yeah so i enabled all the cores fps still the same
how do i double check
Damn, I didnt think it would be that cause utilzation is usually between 30-40%. Hrm..
in bios (or task manager)
why is this reporting your graphics card only has 4GB Vram?
that would cause issues in any modern games, however a 3070 only ships with 8GB vram
should be physically impossible
unless you have a fake 3070
I don't get that either
im running 32 GB of 3200, ddr4
wht does that do
check what the ram is rated for
and what does the oof mean
XMP, (or DOCP for AMD)
overclocks ram to the rated spec
oof = bad
oof= yikes
so, lookup the ram's specs, and set that in the bios, via XMP (if on intel) or DOCP (if on AMD)
i have amd
ok cool, thats just the name AMD calls it, doesn't change anything else
you still have to lookup the specs to figure it out
ok, you can literally see the speed right there
3600?
yes
yeah im bad at tech stuff
so i just gotta make it to that speed?
cuz right now it says 2666 mhz
set DOCP to 3600, yes
yeah should be fine with just setting the speed and letting the system deal with the rest
you are losing a large chunk of performance
im so glad u guys r here
yeah thats why xmp/docp exists
you set it, and it does the rest
but has to be done in bios
usually when building the computer
you do that
so if someone else built it for you, give them a smack π
ITs a common misake lol
literally leaving a chunk of performance on the table
just kinda sticked it into the motherboard
depends on your motherboard
check your motherboard manual
its usually something like, F2, or delete, or F12, or maybe something else
^ motherboard manuals like most tech stuff, is on the manufacturers website
also would have come with the motherboard
3600
oh i see it says 3597
close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades
yea close enough
only having one profile is odd to me, mine has multiple, but maybe its cheap ram, i dunno
though i do my stuff in advanced menu
so i prob get more options
doesn't matter, save, reboot, done
very unlikely
3900x is still very good, unless you have your game at really high frame rates, thats probably not happening
have task manager running, showing GPU stats, and see what happens while in game. if it shows the GPU hitting 90%+, its not the cpu
this assumes whatever game, is actually using the GPU efficiently as well, which isn't really something you can check
i dont think you've mentioned what graphics card you are running either
as well as what graphics settings you are using in BG3
all these things matter.
also game could just be bad wiith your particular setup, or you are running old graphics drivers
this is while running the game
the frame only drops when im in cluttered areas like the city
in 14? that's almost a given tbh
yes
in bg3
framerate do drop when theres a lot of ppl in ff14 too but not that bad
might be an engine quirk
where do i see the 90%
rendering a bunch of stuff isnt conducive to framerate
the utilization %
so it is the cpu bottleneck?
bg3 also runs better on dx11 than vulkan
cpu bottle necks are harder to see
as most games can't fully use all of a cpu's threads
eh.... depends on core-count and game programming
like if you had a dual-core cpu, and a game being slow while the cpu utilization was pegged to 50%
yea, cpu bottleneck
i dunno how BG3 runs on multi core
it goes up to 60% sometimes
ngl, i'm more concerned about the 271 processes
not very well (it prefers high core count rather than thread count)
what do we usually have..
depends on your computer
and what you have installed
271 is quite a bit, compared to my clean lean system
and how much you've made windows your bitch too
I have a bunch of crap on my laptop because intel demands it (also have 2 twitch strims up on firefox). edit: and antivirus that isn't jank windows defender
π€ i wonder if there's a way to figure out the longest uptime your pc's had
because the 11 days is rookie numbers for me
that just happens to be the last time power went wonky with storms
I miss windows 7 uptime measured in months
I dunno why Speccy reports 4gb, since directx diagnostics reports 8gb
never heard of speccy, sounds like shit π
probably
sounds like some garbage 32bit program if it cant correctly see large numbers
well also the screenshot, is missing some things i would expect from a program like that
what does the 3900x mean on the cpu
model, product line, generation, etc
which is unironically why i like intel's i-series
ah, but they aren't i series anymore π
because marketing need to justify their paychecks π
no, but if someone says they upgraded from an i-3 3100 to an i-5 10600 or w/e
you know just how massive of an upgrade that is
i thoght it had something to do w the speed like the rams
so this isnt me being anecdotal
THIS WAS MY UPGRADE

so what is the difference between a ryzen 9 3900x and 5900x
7 fucking years on that cpu
one generational leap.
which is, something
you can't quantify it by just looking at model numbers
you have to lookup benchmarks
(the other benefit to some of intel's product naming)
different cpu generations have different internal changes, to architecture, which changes their behaviour
some things will run way better, others will run a bit better
and whether a motherboard supports it out of the box
it says lower latency n higher speed
userbenchmarks isn't very good at actual app performance
please tell me its not userbenchmark
oooof
yea, do NOT use userbenchmark
they are insanely biased against AMD, its insane
i just kinda googled it
its a fucking joke
n it was the first result
which is why ryzen 3xxx to 5xxx usually gets a good 20% uplift in gaming, and another chunk going from 5xxx to 5800X3D (since better performance per core, and better memory manager)
Userbenchmark is a hot steaming garbage dumpster fire, do not use it as a reference
A lot of you are asking where you should get your information instead. Thanks for asking! And I'll try to help:
For a quick summary on the current situation of, say, CPUs, a video like this is awesome: https://youtu.be/qACIqmP8xgw
And he's just done one for GPUs, too. https://youtu.be/yrsUm26SHGI
I've listed these because the information is rece...
the bias is insane
yea, dont touch them wiht a 10 foot pole
ever
@modest moss any chance we can get this pinned on the offchance people actually glance at the pins before asking questions n stuff?
if it isnt already
oh, looks like it is, buried underneath the horny pins though
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
π€ would unpinning and repinning bring it to the top of the list?
or are pins chronological?
check out gamers nexus, or hardware unboxed, on youtube if you want good thorough and unbiased reviews
and ask here if you want strong opinions based on personal experience (questionable value though)
like how amd gpus are shitty because they only hire competent SWEs to write drivers after launching a product /s
and on that note, time for a shower before bed
Alright so atm, standing in Limsa on balmung at 50-54fps~
So its my CPU thats causing my grief here from what someone said earlier? And if so what should I be looking for in an upgrade for the future?
since you have 10th gen any upgrades are going to involve new cpu/mobo. in the mean time that ram speed needs to go up
does it really?
im on ddr4- 3200 on a 5900X, with no major issues
(SparkyMage's) mem speed is 2400
oh was thinking about the other person on 3600
uh yea, that ram is kinda trash
but, standing in limsa, and getting 50fps, is kinda normal even for high end rigs
the game isn't exactly optimised to the nth degree
when it comes to CPU
yeah especially when player count increases (frame rate drops good)
my cpu doesn't break a sweat, and nothing else is bottlenecked on my system. but i still get frame drops in limsa, unless i lower my graphics down, despite neither hte CPU nor GPU, hitting any bottlenecks
yea, increased player counts, has something about it that isn't well optimised
i CAN, hit 120+ fps in limsa, if i put my gfx settings to the lowest
but i dont care about limsa
i care about the rest of the game, so i dont do that
my mopey laptop gets 57-67 fps in famfrit limsa (next to the jades who are getting hate crowded)
i have gfx at max, and hit 60+ usually
depending, sometimes im at 80
sometimes i hit 55
and im on a 5900x and a 3070
everywhere else, fps hits 100+
upgrading CPU, just for limsa, seems wasteful to me, since yea, thats almost a full system rebuild
is this memory really only 2400?
Suppose to be 3600MHz iirc
ok, then, fix it

adjust xmp
exactly same thing we just went through with the other person
if its 3600, then you are running the ram at 2/3 speed
which is a sizeable hit to many games
i doubt it will help you a lot here, as thats just how ff14 is, but it will probably help a little at least
yeah fix that then pop an alcoholic beverage if the improvement isn't enough (cost of cpu/mobo considering intel 13 gen refresh is around the bend)
I would fix ram speed well before budgeting for new cpu
gen 10 is still plenty usable
10th gen is more than usable
get an 8700K
8 core 16 thread part, easy
that 10700f is still good
a 3 year old CPU, is not "old", especially a mid range one like that
CPU bottlenecks are less likely nowadays, as most games still can't actually use the large amount of cores.
so a mid range cpu lasts much longer than they used to
yea, admittedly i upgraded from my 9700k to a 7800x3d because i felt like it not because I felt I needed to lol
i love seeing those tanks without earthquake straps lmao
i wonder how easily they can topple over
"it's tubed into the wall, what could go wrong"
Given how heavy they are, not very easily.
If you have an earthquake bad enough to topple one of those suckers, frankly, I'd be more worried about everything else.
just don't live near earthquakes, ez

shes cute
IM CURSED
!hank
it is spreading
it is the year 2070. all anime has been replaced by vtubers
this is fun
So now there's an Odyssey G9 Neo.. and an Odyssey Neo G9?
oh nvm they're both called odyssey neo g9. It's just one is 49" and one is 57"
It's the equivalent of two 31.5" 16:9 4K displays!
can Samsung make a monitor that doesnt fail after 2 years
stay tuned
(they cant)
(avoid them, buy LG)
i've never owned a samsung screen
a few samsung phones, yes.. and admittedly, I agree with your thoughts on their quality lol
the curved monitors have an almost 100 percent failure rate with how they bond the screens to the panel
it eventually splits and the center gets a permanent black mark
I dunno whats going on at samsung
my 34" is curved, but i don't think it's curved enough to matter
but they have horrendous quality control on a universal basis
memory sucks, screens suck
far behind on fab technology
I have no idea what sammy is doing either
Im so fucking pissed at the nvme drive fiasco
Ive gone around and replaced all their drives from my machines for safety
pia
mine is still fine
but its a unicorn
Ive always gotten LG monitors. I love em.
I could never get a samsung monitor given their track record with tvs
For now I'm not having problems with my Samsung monitor and it's 5 years old now
It has some problems but nothing that bothers me that much
I hope oled monitor will become cheaper or even 1440p
I'm pointing for 1440p for my next pc
1440p is pretty great
Fuck Samsung
And their phones and tvs and monitors and everything Samsung

Me and the homies hate Samsung
the monitor I got from them is one of the best I've ever had but I still wouldn't recommend it unless the purchaser has insane consumer protection
be glad because i constantly have issues
like when my notebook is connected via HDMI the display goes black randomly for a few seconds before showing a picture again
or sometimes it just goes to static
or sometimes it kinda "resets" or something
sometimes it resets to 60hz
sometimes it just refuses to turn on or rather, its on but it refuses to show anything and just remains black until i restart it
its so annoying
samsung, has documented history of bad quality control for their monitors
so you basically roll the dice on if you get a good one or not
The problem I have with my monitor is that it resets the settings sometime when I turn it off and on
Another major problem is that it has this pixelated grid stuff in some part of the monitor you don't normally notice it but you can still see it
!hank
this isn't new
they must have replaced the quality-first CEO that took over in the 2004-ish era
samsung used to be a trash-tier brand in the 90s
wasn't unreasonable to put kyocera and samsung in the same breath
slowly inching towards having my workstation fully operational again
need to get one of those 1440/360 displays after the initial QA wave gets cleared out, get the cabinets for the new case mod, and set up the new cooling system so I can clear all the PC parts out
then it's new tower time
And TVs
Power supply caps always go
Uhh
It can be used to call people, manage music while working out
I sometimes use it to reply while I'm at work
Can't wait to hear you complain about some group buy from gmk not being sent until after 2 years the campaign ended
With the set costing 400 dollars and having bent spacebars
I just stick with third party clones unless the first party stuff is reasonably priced to begin with
yeah, $25 for a keycap set seems pretty reasonable to me
I'm not paying 200 bucks for abs plastic with next to no customer support
ye
Yeah, that's fine
wouldn't spend more than $100 on keycaps unless they're made out of something exotic
like I bought some ceramic keycaps and those were cool
but I haven't deployed them on a keyboard yet
interesting
Most exotic thing we had back then were metal and wood caps, I think
And the fancy resin ones
cerakey had a whole kickstarter for it, they actually delivered fairly close to on-time
the V2 set they released went mad fast and they only had a few colors to choose from in that round
Close to on time, that's a new record
most things I get off kickstarter arrive within a month or two of delivery
the only time I got super fucked by kickstarter was when lumecube tried to miniaturize their signature light and they ran into a ton of problems with the collimating lens for the new LED module they used
that was delayed by almost 18 months because they pissed away all of the KS budget on prototypes that didn't work

the COO had to put out a video being like "so, uh, all the KS campaign money is gone and we're funding this out of our pocket to get it shipped"

the cubes work pretty well in the end but I thought I was going to take a fat L on that campaign
Glad they followed through, at least
But I guess they had their reputation on the line
yeah
there was the campaign that just kind of silently shit itself and I got a mysterious email that went to the effect of 'effective immediately the company is dissolved and we are refunding you'
so I didn't get the thing but I got my money back so I guess that's a net neutral
π
I want glass keycaps
Same lol
I just haven't had an opportunity to make a real custom board yet
gril wanted pure pink so I couldn't reuse the caps I already had
@deep sapphire
he's extremely lucky
I saw this happen before except the fella couldn't really stand up afterwards
he couldn't do much of anything tbh
I mean PoE uses between 44 and 57 volts on average about 48v
doubt that can cause a fire
considering it is DC not AC
what's wrong with that?
Kindaaaa mid
that's perfectly fine lol
I mean it's w/e
It just depends on the length
But from what I understand, your home won't be big enough that it's an issue
ewwwww
https://youtu.be/Ez9uVSKLYUI Ian Cutress put out an analysis of the whole GN taking shots at LMG, and itβs a long one
The rise of tech media on YouTube brings about new problems that have never widely occurred before in the tech media space. Steve from GN highlights a few, but I expose a few more, as well as give a detailed analysis on the words underlying the recent reports. This video is not monetized, but that's beside the point, as you'll see.

the only thing that really stands out is the
"I need copies of this!"
then he goes on and emails the fucking thing anyway lol
isn't that just another cult of personality then
lol yeah
I did have problems with how Steve presented things and I do think he does have his head up his ass, especially during that whole video
I still do think GN is ultimately "correct" but the way they went about it is really sketch
I think its based and techjesus pilled
more drama
means more entertaining lunch breaks
i said that the day the video came out
but a few days later i watched a bit of the video and was like
steve made 43 minutes of burn
i think steve is trying to recreate what tech sites used to do
here's new shiny part, we did a bunch of tests, here's the results, and here's some pictures of the thing
ofc it's in that stupid video form π
This is so clean
good take
Yeah I watched two thirds of it
Ian's take is probably one of the best I've seen out of this
Alright, I watched the whole thing
I personally agree that with Ian that LMG should be held accountable for some stuff but not all; absolutely the Madison allegations and the mishandling of the Billet Labs waterblock, but stuff like incorrect testing data shouldβve been a bit lighter because itβs not gonna cause the entire tech journalism space to collapse and implode upon itself. On the other hand, Steve should also be held accountable for stuff like blowing things out of proportion like when he said that the waterblock was their lifeβs work and implying that they could go under, and holding LMG to his standards, and as Ian said thereβs no βuniversally acceptedβ one
So this, I think, is a case of Steveβs heart being in the right place but the methods and mentality going about it being shit
And yeah Steve let it all get to his head; his language was too emotionally charged and Ian got his point across without getting flared up
the only youtube account that does this specific thing is project farm
for a guy without a comprehensive testing lab he gets really comprehensive results

What should I look for in a PC monitor?
Resolution, display frequency, panel tech, input latency
Resolution, Refresh rate annnnnd speed beat me
Kk.
I'm trying to have my current, (really crap monitor) be used as a second one to display information and the new one be the primary gaming monitor.
well
there are the cheap monitors, the ones that are 600 and not worth buying and the 1k oleds, take your pick

When I built this pc about 3 years ago, I had to cut costs somewhere. The monitor was where that happened.
what is your budget and do you need anything special like ultrawide or sth
apparently the asus 1440/360 monitor is breddy gud but it's expensive
the acer 1440/144 monitor is also breddy gud and usually $400-ish
Ultra wide? Nah.
Since my birthday is fast approaching and a friend of mine can get me access to his Best Buy discount... ~400 USD is about what I'm comfortable with.
Ultrawide gang
Ultrawide gang
might as well get the M27Q-P/M27Q-X then if that is the budget
its the standard recommendation for under 400$
there really is no monitor above 400 that is worth the extra money unless you want an oled
24" is about the size I can fit on my desk and keep the other monitor.
yeah just get rid of it and get a good quality 27 inch display
I haven't done hard measurement tho of exact things.
Things are scuffed as is with the set up. The wall this is against wasn't originally here when we moved in, and as such, has no electrical wiring or outlets. So I have to use a extension cord for the monitor and PC.

Does anyone know how this dumb Samsung screen share works?
It just goes to a Google screen saver on TV and I can't find the TV to cast to it
;-; so tiny
cant place the pc under your desk?
Your poor ergonomics >_>
pc on floor will explode
Given I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, airflow is so critical.
Yeah, I really should get a better, more comfortable desk. Not good on my wrists.
my 5800X3D is on the floor
Just put a piece of plywood or something solid on the floor
or don't
also thats an nzxt case, its not like its breathing well anyways
My room is... pretty small in terms of space and I'm not sure how well it would do with carpet.
I personally had a woodcrafter make a rolly thing out of wood that is elavated and I can roll it around easily, he only took like 10euro to make it, its really good
whoever invented the case with no airflow must be a genius
Ergonomics is important, I have extreme wrist RSI and wish I got my set up there sooner
Ergo is also part of the reason why I prefer Consoles. I don't have to deal with that damn desk.
Im also π΅
Also, the distance between my bed and that same desk is like. 12 inches or something
I think we've had this desk for... 4-6 years now?
Lol if you have that kind of rug
as long as you put something solid on the floor and your pc on top you will be fine
Ultrawide is the devil. 4k is the only way. nods
How about 4k UW
I couldn't handle a bed like yours... I need some weight on the lower half of my body or I don't sleep well. Also socks unless it's hot af in the room or I'll also wake up throughout the night.
So I usually just have my winter comforter on the bed still, just folded over to the lower half
I'm jealous
My friend bought one of those weighted blankets for the couch it's fscking 20lbs. I feel like I'm getting xrays at the dentist
I have to wear light clothing at night and it still feels hot
It's common in anime to show people in summer sleeping with like a thin sheet over their stomach with nothing on their legs and no socks and... I can't even
That's basically me every night
Not even a sheet half the time
Well, most of the time
Maybe a small fan blowing over my body if it's really hot
I have a weighted electric blanket lol
Extra demonic.
I'm up to 4 4k's on the desk, it's delightful.
The General Motors plant in Oshawa, On has a rich history of building vehicles that goes back over 100 years. Today, this is the only GM plant that builds both Silverado light duty and Silverado Heavy Duty on the exact same production line.
Watching new Silverados come together was interesting and of course we want to hear from you. Let us kno...
@potent arrow
pretty cool how old that plant is but they make it work
Oo I'll have to check it out
I got a tour of the Honda plant here
It's pretty good
Well, I assume everything but the roof and outside walls has been switched out a dozen times
I know GM wanted to shut the plant down awhile ago but Canada worked out a deal to keep the plant in operation which is cool
its expensive af to retrofit old plants like this but Canada has some of the most skilled automotive labor so im glad to see this
Mhhm
Is it though? You'd think a new plant would just be ... new sheet metal walls and ceiling, just like the old ones.
And they've been changing over assembly lines for 100 years now and I know they haven't been building new factories every time
yeah its very expensive to retool a plant
if it requires new automation and what not you have to try and configure the plant around how the line works
where as a new plant you dont have to deal with the logistics nightmare
Ford had a very old plant in St Paul here that built the Rangers and F-150s from like the 1920 to 2010 and that was one of the reasons they shut it down
plus the Ranger wasnt selling very well
it was the oldest automotive plant in north america when it shut down I believe
The Twin Cities Assembly Plant is a former Ford Motor Company manufacturing facility in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States, that operated from 1925 to 2011. In 1912, Ford's first assembly and sales activities in Minnesota began in a former warehouse in Minneapolis. By 1925, Ford had relocated its local operations to the bluffs above the Missis...
1925 to 2011
thats nuts
I mean, I guess it makes sense at that point bc think of vehicle size differences too
And how many extra things you need to pack into them.
Of course the issue is, they didn't just build another plant there did they? They moved that shit to Elbonia instead
yeah they just build a plant elsewhere usually lol
Tool and die probably costs the entire gdp of the province lmfao
idk people really dont know the true cost of tool and die stuff
Working at the factories I was out

Question: Is wifi 5 has the same stability in terms of playing online games like wired?
not 5g mobile network but the router wifi 5.
5ghz wifi has less range than 2.4ghz but is less crowded usually. if you mean wifi 5 (AC) there's more latency than wifi 6 (AX) but it's still playable (in 14)
stability tends to come down to the router and competing with other wifi networks
Ah so more wireless devices connected to my 5g router it affects stability?
that means wired still better
to a certain degree if the router processor can't handle the number of devices
if it's just 5 devices connected and doing nothing should be fine
wired is usually better in every way speed/latency wise since ethernet is an old standard and doesn't take much resources
(i.e. can actually get gigabit speed assuming your internet connection is up to task)

morning people, if i have only 2 case fans should i have 1 exhaust in back and 1 exhaust top? or 1 exhaust back 1 intake front?
if you have 2 exhausts and no intake fan then where is the air gonna come from for the airflow to work
i just figured it would be taking hot air away from the cpu and gpu
so 1 intake 1 exhaust?
should i have an intake on the top or the front?
I just have an intake fan on one end and an exhaust on the other end with the cpu cooler being inbetween them to help with the airflow as well
ok thats waht i was thinking, just wanted to confirm, bough tsome cheap fans for my dads pc that i put linux on
if you have enough open area elsewhere in the case (ie, open/passive grills, gaps in the chassis), you might want to just put two intake fans
there's no value add in having an exhaust fan when the exhaust flow isn't necessarily pulling air somewhere you want it to go, and the positive pressure will keep crap out of the case
double exhaust generally can be fine
air flow is a vaccuum, as long as there is pressure generated it'll work
Holy shit India just landed on the moon
negative airflow's worked pretty well on a lot of stock case configs with just two fans
Fourth on da moooooon
s340 when it was released at the time is probably one of the examples I can think of
only issue is the dust buildup not being centralized on the intakes with dust filters
but whether or not that's a bother depends on the person
this is pretty funny, ngl
Yeah shits pretty funny lol
I guess russia's just been taking L after L
they probably reused an ICBM and changed the warhead to get to the moon
oh no, this missile controller doesn't know how to stop
I'm pretty aight and alive
Finished school for the term and now working on p12s
Lmfao
Also working on selling my business slowly
I see
Just too busy to be sad
Selling off this last inventory should make me enough to pay for school
Can't get rid of these fucking 3070
Like I have five nobody wants
It's great
Send one to me
i kid
I would if ya in Canada lol
do it
How much are they going for these days anyway
I'm selling them for 300$ CAD lol.
thats not bad
thats like what 220USD
About half off MSRP?
people over reacted to that
Yeah
that's rx6600 territory
"waaaahhh my mid range card cant max out settings"
It'll play most if not all games lol
Also Hank you kid, but I'm still ordering 4090s
So many clients I'm using to finish off inventory want them
i heard some of the lower end rx's are selling pretty well
My most sold cards this gen is the rx 6500 and the 4090
6500
50 dollars off of an actual decent card
are people ordering these specifically or
They are always in stock here so it's good for budget builds
My budget builds are all 6500/6600 with the i3 12100f lol
That's because you are a tech enthusiast
Most of the budget guys I build for just play fortnite or need a school machine
And even then this combo gets them by on higher end games still
4090, nvidia's genius ploy to upsell people on by making every other card look like poor value
Real.
even though if you dont play at 4K its a total waste of money
My problem with this generation is just that
Everything is valued so fucking poorly lol
both companies just realized they don't need to be cut throat on prices to profit
i guess
just be glad you never bought a 3090Ti or 3080Ti
both came out within 6 months of the 40 series
to be fair
if you bought a 3090ti you likely didnt care that you spent as much as you did
i dont feel sorry for those people
I didn't stock any
I have one or two 3080ti systems deployed tho
Due to shortages memes
I wonder if I can make money building shit for people where I am
I can imagine
Building up the connections and marketing was a pain
!hank
LMAO

It does

This may date me a bit
that markup
Muahaha
dates you as old enough to be my mum

My first computer had an 8088 cpu, but it was older than I was at that time lol
They doβ¦
They really do
i like my macbook pro
it's 8 years old (2014 model, so it may actually be 9 years old but who's counting?) but it still does what I want and the battery life is still good
wish the keyboard wasn't as stiff though
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Glowy apple logo!
I still have my iPod from 2012
Proud to say that it still works
Battery is weaker ofc, but itβs still holding up
God damn this fuckin samsung watch is a scam
Half a day and my battery is 50%
How the fuck do people use this shit
lmao
LOL i
didn't realize that I bought the lightroom-only plan until it was too late
I already had the 'year plan billed monthly' for photoshop+lightroom >> and they wanted $20 to cancel unless I opted to 'change' my plan
and through a little schadenfrude I just got off without a cancellation fee lmao
I'm still annoyed they say "Photoshop Lightroom" . THE ASSHOLES! call it lightroom
THERES A FUCKIN CANCELLATION FEE????
That has to be illegal
well, since I redeemed the code for the 1 year lightroom-only plan first and then realized my mistake
when I tried to do the 'free change to another plan' and picked the same lightroom thing as I just bought
adobe was like "yea that's an error so we just canceled your order" lol π
so in theory I got off free
I'm still using photoshop and lightroom that I stole a decade ago
Luckily my dslr is around that old too
Fukken same
old enough to have that cute little screen on top
fuckin love that thing

Cute
I hope 10nm becomes a meme like 14nm did
I know process nodes are marketing by now but the whole Intel 14nm era was funny
lmao yeah
where they just kept refurbishing haswell over and over and calling it an upgrade
14nm ad infinitum

Gamers. As a 1080p gamer. Now that I have a monitor sorted.
I'm looking to upgrade my GPU. Currently at a RX 5600 XT, what would you recommend jumping to?
Depends on your budget.
Also what CPU and PSU do you have?
^
Ryzen 7 5800X3D. I'd like to not spend more than 500 if at all possible
Because like. One of these things is not like the other.
(In terms of price at least.)
I expected that out of a 4090 not a card from 3 years ago.
a new 6950xt is going for like 600$ still
which would be a good choice
but you need a good psu to run that card
Is there a way to check the wattage of my psu without turning my system off? In class right now
I'm not sure because my sibling bought a few of the parts with his Best Buy discount.
Oh there it is.
650W
ohh yeah you defo cannot run the 6950xt on that
that psu cannot even run the base 3080
blah
check the used prices of the 3080ti and 3080 12gb still
nods tyvm
if a used one is like
450$ or sth
then you can spend a bit more as well for a quality PSU with more wattage
the other option is a 6750xt or a 4070
the 4070 is of questionable value at best
and the 6750xt would be neat for like 300$ or sth
but would it be enough of an upgrade I wonder
14nm+++++++ ... and yet still were mostly keeping up with AMD by the end. Should have been a lot further behind
yeah that was amds dark age
bulldozer was a disaster
and they did not bounce back until the last gen of am4
The reason why I brought this up is because AC6 apparently requires a 6600 at base for min. Requirements.
Will my PSU be able to handle that?
And wouldn't the RX 7600 be better?
In terms of both price and equal in performance?
650w is enough for the 6750xt yeah
or the 6700xt if its cheaper enough
6700 XT. Looking around. ~350 seems to be the median price
Because the 7600 seems to be cheaper than the 6700 XT??
By like. A solid 60-80 usd.
average performance

Duly noted.
the 6700xt is almost always faster and has more vram
6750xt is a little faster than that too
Looking at my options
only advantage is that its more energy efficient
Amd has a discount sale for its 6850 XT. 419. Slightly over comfortable budget.
But that's directly from amd.
Difference between 6700 xt and 6750 XT seems to be 100 usd
I will be selling my old 5600 XT for like. 100-150 on like. Ebay to recoup some of the cost.
well, remember to not look for new cards. they arent being manufactured anymore and vendors are selling remaining stock for inflated prices
also for the 6850xt you would need a new PSU
This is the 6750 xt, is the 6850 a thing?
oh lol, no it isnt, i meant the 6750xt
they skipped the 6800 and just went over to 6950xt
Gotcha.
Looking at PSUs, grabbing the 6750 would incur an extra 150 for a 850w psu.
Corsair of course. (Never cheaping out on these things.)
I suppose I'll be sticking to the 6700, as I don't have that extra 150 for the psu right now.
Then again, AC should work fine with my deck.
hmm wait
The whole reason this came up was because of AC and min. Gpu requirements.
If the deck can run the game fine, I'll be okay.
hmm you might be ok with the 6750xt but i would recommend a bigger psu
and yeah it might be alright with your old card
Min. Spec requirements are often more than they actually are because of the nature of PC gaming
I'll wait til like. Cyber Monday/Black Friday to worry about getting a upgrade. Get a 6750 XT for sub ~350
That's kinda disappointing FPS when it's a gen newer. Usually stuff goes up a tier in performance in the next gen and that doesn't seem close
usually
but then look at the 4060 which is overpriced as fuck with less vram than the 3060 and similar performance.
150$ extra for AI generated frames
laugh at frame generation all you like, I get 30-40% more frames in cyberpunk for free
now i just need every other game to support that tech

now i just need every other game to support that tech without artifacting and other issues
and with little latency impact
nvidia reflex negates latency
kinda kills the appeal when new games struggle with lots of issues at launch and you gotta wait a while before it gets updated
I have now joined 2020. I just need to ditch my optical drive need
Yeah i suck at modding
look at that insulated screwdriver
I can't be assed to get a better one out of my bag

too lazy can't move
I use sd and micro sd all the time
the one that used to be baked into the case would corrupt your cards if you removed them before unmounting

its almost like WFM all the time is a stupid idea and doesnt work
who would have thought
Work from mome
i enjoy being in office with my coworkers
it would suck hard if i had to "work from home" alone for the rest of my life
I said from the start WFH all the time was a stupid idea because its incredibly difficult to stay motivated on top of working with others
obviously during pandemic it was the only viable option but after that
work from home when there is icy storm outside and your car is frozen down
I think a hybrid is nice
rubbing alcohol on the doors

Some stuff you legitimately can do fine from home
But meetings should be done in person
boiling hot water on the windows will open it
also rub silicone grease on your rubber door trim to prevent them from freezing
NOOOOOOOOOO
okay I did that once but then I learned that can crack your windows so im never doing that again
I love the broken door handle

yeah the best advice I've ever gotten was the silicone grease on the rubber trim
once I did that I never had a single door freeze
Hybrid is the best compromise imo
I agree
specially when you can tune them for high performance
that new toyota tundra has some impressive torque specs for being a V6 hybrid
too bad the fuel economy is laughable for also being a hybrid
Oh my lord. Anime GPUs
!hank
No PC build is complete without one of these
Also I'm lucky I have a mesh filter on top
cute cat
So
Despite the technician claiming to have put in a request for more ports
Nothing
So i went to the local telco store
I bugged em
imagine my surprise, they're not aware of the problem
whats the problem?
Our optic fiber cables run through them local switches. Them local switches dont got no ports
LOL
I dealt with that with my old ISP, there was clearly something fucked in the junction box outside and they said they would have an engineer come out and look cause it was an issue in the apartment complex, they never sent anyone after multiple requests
which I get, it was in the winter and the ground is rock hard so you arent digging shit but come on
I had a problem like that a couple houses ago
The internet would die every night when the weather was above 100f or so in the day
I couldnβt convince them something was fucked somewhere lol
Usually itβs easy to counter when they say itβs your house wiring by plugging it in outside at the ground block and being like βsee shits still ducked!β
lazy fucks

The question is how long would it take
To get pancaked by someone driving a Canyonero? heh
whole lotta teslas in plano
can't tell if they're flexing the money they have or buying them to stan elon husk
I'm doing something timeless and traditional
makes an atari 2600 console and is selling a chatgpt shitcoin ticker to a cryptobro
Is there where we can ask general tech questions to learn any such?
sure, you might not get the answer you want but you might
Tons of IT and Tech freaks here unfortunately
Cool. So ever since I got my PC built ( 1 year and 6 months ago ), my extra drive has sometimes stopped working, I reboot and it disappears. Two times after just doing a hard reset/restart it would come back. Well yesterday, that wasn't working until I went to the BIOS, and saw my drives were there. After a few boot loop cycles, the extra drive showed up. What could be the cause of that you guys think? I'm only a software enginner so my computer enginner skills are poo LOL.
its an NVMe
ok well my Drive is alive right now, so I'll make that as a note too if it happens again.
And if it doesn't work, check drive health with crystal disk
I would do it before it disappears again.
worse case replacing the Nvme with a new one is not a bad idea?
sounds a bit like the issue @tame fulcrum had with disappearing nvme
