HDDs can technically fail whenever but spinning them up and parking them adds to wear and tear so it's kinda better to just not have them spin down, or only have them do that if it's data you only access like once a day or every few days.

Stuff like seeding torrents is also probably really rough on them bc it's a bunch of random reads from all over the platters so it really works the read heads

Assuming you're seeding a bunch of files. Although I assume if you were able to force a defrag of all those files into the same area of a disk it would help
