They started out with 100mb and before they were gone I want to say they may have had disks that went all the way up to 1gb. I know they had 750s for sure.

Although I don't think the higher capacities were compatible with the older drives.

The SuperDisk LS-120 is a high-speed, high-capacity alternative to the 90 mm (3.5 in), 1.44 MB floppy disk. The SuperDisk hardware was created by 3M's storage products group Imation in 1997, with manufacturing chiefly by Matsushita.
The SuperDisk had little success in North America; with Compaq, Gateway and Dell being three of only a few OEMs wh...

alright I bought the 7950X3D so none of you have to

it's also hard to get one right now anyway

Go to fookin Balmung Quicksand for test haha

sharp star

I mean sure

I'll do that but I have to do two passes with CCD1 off and on

golden stream
#

Actually, which is more traffic in Balmung? Limsa or Quicksand?

sharp star
#

Probably Quicksand based on my short tenure there in 6.18

golden stream
#

Bc Limsa has inconsistent traffic (peep tp, moving, crafing, emoting, accounted for vfx) while at least you can expect peep in Quicksand just mostly emoting and uh, rp

Also consistent lighting setup

the player count is the fun part, not the fireworks show

Then of course USB storage killed them off. Also maybe a bit of schools and such providing network drives more often as well.

#

Pulled from my box of forgotten relics

sly walrus
#

oh my god is that a zipdisc

#

is that what a fucking zipdisc looks like

dull garnet
#

Yes

odd sand
#

Floppy (obivously), 250MB Zip Disk, then DV cassette for handcams

#

Just googled it for curiosity sake and I was right in that Zip disks started with 100MB, then eventually 250, 500, and 750 sizes. After that Iomega marketed the Jaz Drive with 1GB and 2GB disks, but by that point I think USB thumb drives were reaching similar densities so I don't remember seeing a single Jaz drive in the wild.

#

DV Cassettes afaik were tape with digital video encoded onto them rather than analog, hence the ability to be so small while still having good quality.

#

From the DV cassettes I think they went to those compact flash things. You can see a size comparison on that adapter to the relative size differences. I think the standard these days for the people who bother with dedicated consumer video cameras is 2x SD card slots.

#

Doing a Google/Wiki walk, apparently there were more standards than even I knew about.

#

For professional video, it appears they went from CompactFlash to CFast which was a SATA variant of the original. Then XQD which looks like a hybrid of sorts between a CF and SD card which used PCIe interface. Now they have CFexpress which are big chonkers like the original CompactFlash, but support faster PCIe with more lanes and larger capacities. And it looks like some ones like RED cameras literally just had hot-swappable 2.5" SSD cassettes for a time haha

umbral moss
dull garnet
#

5D Mark II uses CF still :o

#

I think the III had a CF and an SD?

sly elk
#

a lot of newer hybrids do dual sd instead

umbral moss
#

most of the fast burst cameras are using CFe with an SD card backup slot

#

CFe is just superior in every way that counts

#

hello supporting 150 deep 20fps shooting at 30MP

odd sand
odd sand
#

It's maybe not quite as egregious as Betamax or Bluray

umbral moss
#

the reason CFe exists is because sony charged everyone else a royalty to make XQD cards

#

so everyone got together and just made an identical product that doesn't use sony's proprietary bullshit lmao

odd sand
#

Oh okay, yeah that's very Sony of Sony isn't it.

dull garnet
#

😎

umbral moss
#

if you didn't want to pay sony you couldn't make the stupid cards

dull garnet
#

I love the images the body puts out but the data technology is horrible, takes ages scrolling through raw images in body lol

umbral moss
#

CFe is literally XQD but with the serial numbers filed off, that's why you can drop CFe cards in camera bodies designed for XQD and they'll work with a firmware update haha

#

300 thousand tons of steel has the right of way

odd sand
#

Was he able to detach the trailer in time though? That was quick thinking at least.

#

They have problems like that where my friends live out in SC bc it's such a large grade on either side they have signs warning semis and such not to cross there or they will get stuck. Invariably one still does it and gets stuck like once a month.

umbral moss
#

because every single bridge is 6 inches too short to allow a large hauler to fit

#

out of state truckers think it's just a fine, and...

odd sand
#

It looks like he was able to detach, and I give him credit for just booking it instead of trying to get in the semi and drive off. Not worth the risk beyond what he did.

umbral moss
#

yeah, the rig is probably company equipment

#

if it was his he might have tried to save it

odd sand
#

I mean, it seems he mostly did by way of decoupling the trailer

#

It got bumped a little but I bet its 98% fine

umbral moss
#

yeah, probably gets hit harder when they load the stupid cat on the bed

odd sand
#

That actually probably made the accident way less severe now that I think about it as well.

#

Bc otherwise the train would have been dragging that trailer and truck a ways

umbral moss
#

would have probably caused a flip and that truck would have absolutely fucked that SUV up

odd sand
#

Instead it just kinda bursts thru after the trailer got shoved aside

umbral moss
#

yeah

#

no action movie explosion though

odd sand
#

It may have the right of way, but it looks like that excavator did take a huge chunk out of the train's momentum bc it comes to a stop not all that much further down the track

#

The excavator might even be fine after a new track on that one side and maybe a few pinions haha

umbral moss
#

there's no universe where that cat has enough mass to stop that huge ass cargo train

Most big installs should have enough slack for that, usually you want 10%.

hmm weird the ml140 do apply less pressure than a ml120... but over more surface area?

i'd assume bigger fans mean a better blade:hub ratio

in all honesty today there's some cool setups on battlestations lol

lime wasp
#

My quest for a SFF case that could hold a 350mm 4080 is hopeless, yet I march on.

lime wasp
#

My inability to find an SFF case that will my GPU is leaving me in a tough choice though

Go to an SFF build to reclaim some desk space, look nicer and make it so that when I get a new desk I don't have to get a big one.

Keep what I have which is more powerful, but takes up a massive chunk of space and makes it so that I have to get a bigger desk when I get a new one.

sly elk
#

i feel like

#

there's a clash in priorities there

#

if you want something small, quiet, and unobtrusive, a 4080 probably isn't a very good choice

#

that's "mac mini on my desk and a ps5 shoved inside an entertainment center cabinet where nobody can see it" kinda stuff

lime wasp
#

I was originally going to go SFF, but then a 4080 came along on sale and it was just like...well I have a 4k monitor and 7900XTXs were nowhere to be found.....

#

So I grabbed it and the only case I could A: Find in stock that would fit it and B: Wasn't a monster

#

But alas I have a twinge of buyer's regret not only because of the size but because I really did like the idea of having a powerful SFF computer

sly elk
#

I mean

#

if one doesn't exist yet, I'm sure a case eventually will that fits the 4080 and works fine

i get doing it for the 'because i can' factor though

hmm (reading on the packet compression in 6.35)

#

also the memory leak tech support thread. seems like the reason act only works at character select is because that's the only time you get a full starting packet - after that the rest are deltas in order to reduce bandwith. it also can't deal with compressed data or large packets

#

regular packets are trained into a dictionary model instead of the (raw) opcodes normally used to tell the client something is happening

#

so when ntt is ntt and drops packets it has to rebuild the state

yeah, a friend wrote an engine from scratch some years back, it's a huge task and whilst it does give you freedom it's ultimately too much for one person

royal forge
#

Why should you when the amazing Skyrim game engine exists?

Do I need an adapter from TRRS to TRS to use this mini audio interface on my PC?

#

the one that PC use is TRS yeah?

#

this one

paper tusk
#

should be fine but you won't be able to use the mic (assuming a headset)

outer sand
#

planning to buy this type of adapter, will it make difference?

paper tusk
#

separate might be safer (one on mic, other line in)

outer sand
#

so either plug and play without battery for instrument or put in the battery for the xlr mic

#

but yeah, just wanted to know how to use this mobile audio interface for a PC

paper tusk
#

I'm not sure

#

sounds like put in line in and should be ok

#

although won't be able to get both uses from it (mic and amp)

outer sand
#

I want to use the amp, lols

paper tusk
#

sounds like yeah will need to split the plug

outer sand
#

ok ty ty

#

Any fighting game stick you'd recommend? Preferably under 200 though since conversion to Canadian will jack the price

#

hell, getting the lazy ass old fashioned diy pc market to use more than 1 usb-c port (if any at all) has been a pain

#

bet there's still some taiwanese vendor going WE SUPPORT PC99 WITH THIS CASE

#

FRONT USB 3.0 WITH THE UGLY BLUE PLUG

#

(PC99 was a spec that required the ugly rainbow color connectors)

outer sand
sly elk
#

to be fair, it's not a big deal using an adapter on a desktop

paper tusk
#

I've seen corporate mini pcs use it but because of the chance of being used in call centres

sly elk
#

neat

uncut cape
#

Welp, I ended up buying a Qaban crystal fight stick

#

Although with the conversion rate + shipping fee, it went from 150 to 272$

#

Needless to say, gonna go heavy on fighting games from now on...

sly walrus
#

congratulations, you're a real 09er now

LTG is so good, this guy is such a scrub, everytime I watch him in a clip, he always lose and RQ

#

I think that's why his viewer watch him, lol

sly walrus
#

okay better example, that guy who lost 0-13 to sonic fox

outer sand
#

but seeing a guy getting beaten in 13 times in a row, especially when it's fighting his rival, that's another level

sly walrus

all because he didn't know how to shut up

Brawlhalla is pretty huuuh

Dubious

sly walrus

brawlhalla has a community?

uncut cape

Second biggest on steam yeah

I just know that brawlhalla attracts kids since it's free to play, therefore it quickly devolves into a cod lobby

#

Although without voice chat

#

And thank god for that

outer sand
#

yeah, that's what I like about playing FG online, lol. You just get in 1v1, show which one is better player, no TT after, that's it

#

pure skill based

I remember trying to get into Tekken (still trying to) and trying to do some damage to a Kazuma player that was waaaayyyy above my rank as a complete beginner and somehow the person actually let me rematch like 5-6 times in a row even though this is a random matchmaking

#

Although I don't delusion myself into thinking I had any chance

#

As soon as their rage art could kill me, they would pop it when I whiffed, immediately

that's how fgs work

the difference between a good player and a not good player is knowing what will kill

True, but I knew starting the match that I was fucked

Omega rip the payment was declined

#

Well I guess rip the joystick

sly walrus
#

good news, you don't need it

uncut cape
#

True, but pad hurts my hand severely when playing fighting games and keyboard requires button buffering for double inputs on keyboard

#

Could prob bind the few inputs they allow to be rebinded to dedicated keys, but they don't cover all

#

I think 1-3 and 2-4 aren't covered

#

Same for any 3 button inputs
