I think I can power limit the 4090 I got today as a late Chrimbus gift

#

I’m fine with single digit losses

#

double digits is where I start to have problems

real edge
#

undervolting the 4090 is a common strategy

#

if you have a 750w psu

#

there is not much loss if at all and you can run the card

sharp star
#

850 but yeah

#

I’ll power limit it anyway

#

also since when did they discourage daisy-chained PCI-E cables for the adapter

real edge
#

I know that you can undervolt it but how? msi afterburner? or

sharp star
#

Afterburner yeah

#

but power limit is the easier option

#

Ada Lovelace undervolting works differently from Ampere and doing it wrong may result in much worse performance losses

#

I might do 70% PL

how do you set a power limit? bios?

The MSI Aegis R pre-built PC is one of the worst systems we've ever looked at. It's impressive how MSI combined software and hardware incompetence to create this abomination.

# deep sapphire <a:meow:1042051153174724719>

I just upgraded to 1GB internet, but I’m capped at 100mbps. I’ve checked to make sure it’s not an issue with negotiations in the device manager, so I’m fairly sure it’s a physical issue. My router’s setting say it’s also open for 1000 on ethernet. My main concern is where/how should I start testing to determine which cable is faulty. I average about 90/90 in wall connection

Since directly connecting to router/modem combo, I’m hitting about 130/40. Is this an ISP issue? or am I correct in assuming it’s likely a faulty cable

#

^on wifi, I’m about 60/60

#

I know my router is capable of hitting the full 1gbps

bitter girder
#

try speedtest on your phone

deep sapphire
#

so both wired and wifi get low speeds

languid lava
#

yessir

languid lava
deep sapphire
#

and you have it properly configured on the adapter side

#

and both conclude poor outboard speeds

modest moss
#

so it's either ISP, cable between socket and router, or router

languid lava
#

as far as im aware, yes

deep sapphire
#

I would say its an ISP issue, you could run something like winMTR

#

and see what it looks like right outside your modem

#

I'll grab you a dl link

#

one moment

#

just put 8.8.8.8 for the hostname or w/e the address bar is

#

also, do you live in an apartment or shared living

languid lava
#

Yeah, I live in an apt

deep sapphire
#

well, your modem running towards WAN

languid lava
#

but I have a standalone modem/router combo

deep sapphire
#

so any external network traffic

#

the reason I ask is because apartments are notorious for extremely old wiring

#

so even though you paid for gigabit, the wiring could be total dog shit

#

just run that program

#

and let me know what you get

#

let it run for like a minute

#

its basically just pathping/traceroute but it runs continously

languid lava
#

alright lemme check on wan

deep sapphire
#

also ping me when you're done

#

playing WoW and might space out lol

languid lava
#

wait should i cover-

#

oh nvm mine isnt there all good

deep sapphire
#

nah you're fine, you can delete it later but as long as you have the basic firewall settings on regardless nobody really gonna do much lol

#

well, seems WAN is fine, I se 2 hops that timed out completely and frankly you shouldnt ever have any hops failing to google dns

#

that being said, that shouldnt impact your download rate per say

#

what did you use to determine download rate, google speed test?

modest moss
#

does your router admin page not say what you're synced at?

languid lava
languid lava
#

but my PC is only registering 100mbps

#

oooo wait a sec its changed to 1000

#

but still far less than it should be

#

187/100

deep sapphire
#

1000 is just the interface, if you are using cat5e or something you'd only get 1gbps

languid lava
#

im using cat6

modest moss
#

make sure the nic on your pc is set to auto and not 100mbps

languid lava
#

its on auto negotiation

deep sapphire
#

I dont think that would be the problem simply because they claimed wifi was also pretty bogged

#

which makes me think its something on the WAN side, just because it has free flowing packets doesnt particularly mean there isnt issues with traffic

#

unfortunately, there isnt a real simple way to test that as you'll need to determine signal strength

#

some modems have built in advanced diagnostics that will show you signal str

#

but that being said, I would contact your ISP

#

they might be able to do a simple test on their end before they send a tech out

languid lava
#

Alrighty, I'll do that then

#

Thanks again Thumbs

deep sapphire
languid lava
# deep sapphire np

i decided to be a dumbass and buy a pack of cat6 cables and see if i can make shift a solution

#

i think theres a chance of a connectivity issue between the switch and router cable’s being kinked poorly

late basalt
#

No kinkshaming now vivsmug

#

Also, you live in an apartment, so you’re already going to suffer speed loss as a result

#

But odds are the isp’s node you’re connected to just doesn’t have the bandwidth to cope

languid lava
#

It’s weird to me though bc I know of others within my same building that are getting the full gigabit

late basalt
#

Sounds about right

sly elk
#

Also

#

when you upgraded to the 1gbit plan, did you power cycle your modem?

#

even plain ole' cat5 should be able to get 1gbps on a short length

#

also, that your router drops to 60/60 over wifi is kinda interesting.

#

one of my old routers, though it has gigabit ethernet ports, it really does max out around 300mbps, that's all the routing hardware is capable of doing

odd sand
deep sapphire
#

Yeah I know some modems don’t even let you look at any data but some do it’s all a toss up

#

That’s okay they are gonna parts cannon the problem away

odd sand
#

Could also see what channel your wifi is on compared to your neighbors

#

Parts cannon is I guess what I did for my parents. I bought them the tplink deco that has the 3 APs and put those in the living room and both bedrooms haha

#

And I have an Ubiquiti edge router and a netgear commercial switch for the basement, but I forgot the crimp tool at my apartment and want to buy a shorter coax cable to move the modem back into the basement.

#

At some point my parents had "internet problems" so the tech decided my 2 year old docsis3 modem I had given them was insufficient and they gave them a spectrum one and ran coax to my old bedroom and put the modem up there instead of leaving it at the utility junction in the basement

#

But now that I want to setup the edge router and switch down there again, I need to move the modem back MiqoteDepressed

sly elk

#

but yea let's start with basics here

you didn't go with extensions, but you did hide the wiring for your fans and if you're using any 2.5/3.5" they're hidden away

#

that alone makes a huge difference

#

nah just 2x1tb m2 in here for now

sly elk
outer sand
#

hmm

sly elk
#

that will also make things more annoying

outer sand
#

micro atx is much smaller? should I have extra concern with the airflow? but cable management seems better with smaller case, I just want a case where I can hide all those cables, and to make it looks like those battlestations picture

#

cause without those cable getting in the way, it's much easier to clean it

modest moss
#

you know you could probably just route your cables round the back like mine, right?

outer sand
#

yeah, I've tried, doesn't seem to possible to do it

modest moss
#

up to you then, if you care enough to buy a new case and rebuild for just aesthetics go for it

outer sand
#

Also this. The front fan makes the case look like this..

#

front usb3 is also not working 🥲 , when I tried to plug in my microphone, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, not sure why, It only works when I plug it to the back of the case

#

I've tried to pull the cable to that hole close to the PSU, and it was very hard to close the case from the other side

sly elk
#

I think getting a better case is a good idea

#

Not necessary of course

#

Especially if you have it jammed in a cubby like that

#

Actually putting your computer somewhere where it can breathe will do more good than anything hahaha

#

As for the front usb

#

That relies on the cable that plugs into the motherboard

outer sand
#

yep

#

I thought I didn't put it right cause before I reformat everything it works (with the old parts i37100 and GTX1050)

sly elk
