Overall Thoughts

To start this off I want to applaud the Devs for the lovely main menu music. First time I booted up the game and heard that playing, I knew I was in for a fantastic game! Very solid first impression, reminds me of some of my other favorite OSTs like The Last Guardian. Any soundtrack that can get me to feel any emotion is an instant hit for me.

Soundtrack 🎵

Upon booting into my first game I was honestly quite shocked that there was no in game music or significant ambience. It was eerily silent as I stumbled about figuring out my controls. This was in stark contrast to the strong heroic opening of the main menu and I have been thinking about it ever since.

I'd be curious to hear your guys thoughts on this. I understand that perhaps battle music or whatnot may not be fitting for a "competitive'" experience but I certainly would enjoy it in games myself.

Radio System 📻

One method of incorporating this could be a in game "radio" in which the OST plays and can be disabled. To allow custom music I have seen games included a folder in the game files where MP3 files can be stored and played in the game. I'm not sure if this violates any specific copyright but It seems a fairly effective workaround.

Adaptive System 🎹

I am a big fan of adaptive music in games, where the state of the game directly impacts the intensity of the music by adding more instruments, chords, and so on as the battle approaches a climax. (Examples: Pikmin, Breath of the Wild, Risk of Rain 2) Again, this may seem out of place in this type of setting but I honestly think it could be a very unique feature in a game like this and have been dying to see someone try it.

Conclusion

Perhaps I am alone in this, but after hearing what you have made already in a short opening theme, I would love to hear more! I would also be more engaged in matches with some more ambience or a soundtrack behind it.

Excellent, can't wait to hear what they cook up! Music makes such a big impact in a first impression and gets people immersed.

I wondered if an adaptive music system was used in this game, if each ship perhaps would have its own battle chords. (I thought about for each gun but that's extreme) So for example, when fighting a Taurus you get deeper bass instruments, and a squid gets flighty woodwinds and so on. All of it coming together in harmonious battle!
