well that's alot of work, something on those lines could potential be cool for sure, only real input i can have is that we do have already "catapults of sort" in game not in a full on scale siege but we use one to break a door for example and we have the big ode cannon bosses (whatever their names were)
so we already got something within those lines atleast
to go back to the dragons thoguh, i'm not sure yet where they wanna lead with the lore and ambiences but right now the closest we are to figthing big "entities" is the collector which is essentially a big alien ship, so maybe not dragons but we'll fight big machines an the likes perhaps in the future?
One idea of mine is to create a special continent dedicated to dragons, filled with all kinds of flying dragons. Players can tame the dragons there and take them to other continents to battle.
The Ode have also corrupted the continent where the flying dragons live. We need to go there to purify the land, fight the dragons, and tame them. This is medieval magic, how could there be no flying dragons?
somebody realy loves their dragons eh? XD
we'll see where the game goes with their art etc
Call me crazy but haven't Steve said they want to focus on realistic animals + some magic on top of them rather than mythical creatures on one of the devstreams? I am very unsure and my brain might be playing tricks on me, so please, do tell if I'm wrong.
if dragons aren't real, then how come alot of cultures with oceans separating them all have some depiction of giant lizards
Geoff did mention many devstreams ago that they have a "sort of a dragon" in the works. but who knows what kinda DE magic they're gonna do to it, might not even resemble a "usual" dragon
Dragons are said to have a place in the game
These will probably exist, they sound like very classic tropes. Just not in the near future
doubt we'll see the Ode using any sort of catapults tho considering they have cannons
They will 100% add mythical creatures from eastern cultures. I only hope it’s not Wukong again 😅
it would be hard to tie in Wukong in a very European influenced world. but more than likely we might see an item in 'Ancestral Armor' be brought to the rest of the world
Ok so I was wrong, that's good. I'd love to see their take on dragon like creatures in Alca
I actually believe it would be very easy to tie Wukong into this game’s lore. Seeing how it’s all about the omen beasts. It’s an easy pick when entering the Chinese market, but my hope is they choose something more original
i mean yeah i do see them going with more realistic animals than fantasy, while including fantasy
There are so many depictions of dragons stemming from real animals (especially medieval ones) that I'm actually really excited to see what kind of mix they will cook up
-# panda omen beast
yuh
Id love it. Sounds like a great idea tbh
in a way (nothing against china or the culture or anything) i wouldn't wanna see them focus on or add anything *just because it's in some countrys (like china for example with a LOT of games already using chinese mythology etc. recently) mythology but focusing on what they themselves actually want to do and add and what they come up with.
sure if they decide to do something like the example i gave, go ahead, that's cool too 👀
i do get that they're owned by Tencent but afaik they have very much so a free reign on what they want to do but yeah. they'll do what they'll do
I don’t think they’re owned by tencent, they only own a part of the company? And using culturally significant symbols is common practice when entering various markets. That’s why I expect them to use those. It’s a highly likely, not a guarantee, but still 😁
from warframe forums in 2020
Ah, I see. Then we will definitely have a bunch of Asian cultural influences in the game 😛
wouldn't say that necessarily since Tencent has given them basically completely free reign on what they do but it can happen yeah
just that they can't really do anything and everything in this game unlike Warframe that's basically a free for all when it comes to content they can add into the game
I actually love the art style and storytelling in this game, it’s what captivated me in the first place. I rarely play action RPGs. That’s why I’m super excited about what kind of spin they put onto dragons and other types of mythical creatures. I like what the team is cooking.
Dragons? Sure. Doing crossovers and the likes? Hell no! The moment any game, and I mean any game starts focusing those garbage, cash-grab crossovers and "themes", I lose 50% of my interest in said game. I did not become a Founder for another Fortnight clone, so I better not see any hint of that nonsense in my video game.
they're not gonna do crossovers or stuff like that ._.
maybe like... a couple skins or easter eggs from Warframe but that's it
I am just stating how I would feel if there was a hint of that from the suggestion. Engaging in a hypothetical, so the devs understand how some people (me) feel towards this crap. It ruined too many of the games I enjoyed, and I do not need it anywhere near this one.
they haven't done it with Warframe, they're not gonna do it with this game 👀
or... i guess there's a few Unreal Tournament skins in warframe but they made that game too so
It's not that you've misunderstood me. Although I'm a Chinese player, the dragon elements I suggested adding to the game are not the traditional Chinese dragon image. They are more like the medieval flying dragons from Europe, the kind with wings—completely different from traditional Chinese dragons.
i did understand that too but explained another point
The existing siege weapons are a bit like cannons, but the siege projectile launcher I have in mind is really tall. It's an engineering device that can be operated by multiple players, standing about three stories high.
the good ol seige trebuchet
You know, I'm probably not talking about that kind either. I mean the kind of trebuchets you see in a lot of medieval movies, like the ones in The Lord of the Rings. I'm not entirely sure.
I hope the player ends up in the sling tho xD getting flung over the walls
That works too. It'd be even better if it could throw anything you put into its slot—rocks, barrels, whatever you want. That's a great idea.
nah i know what you mean, something like this
Another idea: siege battles should let you attack and defend. When defending, you’d face off against the Ode’s siege behemoths, siege rams, and other massive war machines.
psuedo-tower defense could be a good game within the game
Yeah, I’ve got another idea too.
Add merchant NPCs that sell items in the normal reputation dungeons.
So many rooms are just empty and unused.
The procedurally generated dungeons haven’t been worked on for a while, but I’m sure they’re going to use all of them later on. Again, highly likely they will introduce a new version of relics of wylds (primes) here, and I bet they’ll use dungeons to crack them open/obtain them.
we used to have an Avakot merchant in the Dermak entrance tile, but iirc he got removed
so like.... Avakot?
At the Hilly-Den dermak undercity?
pretty sure he's still there
Only in one of the dungeons and he's still there
He hands out quests
maybe that's why I haven't seen him anymore lol
