#Some Ideas, Fixes and Compromises for the New System

Please keep in mind, this is only an idea. Any values mentioned here have simply been chosen for demonstrating the general idea.

  1. Create "Archetype" templates

Purpose: Players can choose an archetype that most closely matches their desired character idea. Choosing an archetype is optional. If you decide to not use it, you will be able to freely distribute your points. If you use it, Prisms become available. Archetypes will automatically distribute your points according to Prisms compatible with your Archetype. Being able to freely distribute your points should mostly benefit you in the beginning of the game while you might still lack additional Prisms and might want to try some different playstyle/weapons/pacts etc. While later on, you'll most likely want an Archetype/Prism to pin down the type of character (loadout) you are imagining.

  1. Changes to Prisms

Purpose: Prisms should define a focus but not prevent freedom of altering the build.
Changes: Prisms should only automatically distribute a certain amount of points into the Virtues corresponding to the strength of the focus. E.g. Wyld Prisms would automatically distribute something like 80% of your virtue points into the corresponding virtues, the rest is for you to distribute yourself. Similarly the non-Wyld versions would automatically distribute something like 60% of your points automatically.
Though to make Prisms attractive over just freely distributing all points yourself, Prisms should give a Virtue bonus corresponding to their Virtue focus (e.g. Wyld Prisms give +6 to their Virtue of focus, regular +3 and those more split between two Virtues could give either +1 to each, or +2 and +1 with slightly varying focus).

  1. Changes to Weapon and Armor

Purpose: Loosen up the Virtue requirements
Changes: Weapons and Armor that only scale on one Virtue remain untouched. Weapons and Armor which scale on two Virtues allow you to select their "Requirement Virtue" when initially forging them. They later can be reforged with a specific material. Also you are always able to craft another weapon/armor with a different requirement. The scaling itself remains untouched.

  1. Changes regarding undistributed Virtue points

Purpose: Make players aware of undistributed points
Changes: This is mostly a communication and accessibility issue, therefore providing some kind of indicator outside of combat which shows that points can be distributed should be shown. E.g. make the character profile (which is also seen while on the map) visible with some indicator until the character screen has been opened. Ideally, the character screen should be (at least partially) accessible outside of the Nightfold, to allow for distributing your points right away.

Imho, this should improve some of the current limitations with the new system while still keeping most of its changes and general intentions. It's certainly still not perfect and will not please everyone but I hope it would be an improvement.

I prefer this

The only downside to this is that it renders the team's previous efforts worthless

I don't think the weapons (and armor btw.) need independence. Why not have weapons and armor that are bound to Virtues (and maybe later on gain some Virtue related effect) while also having neutral ones that have no requirement and only scale via the weapon level but therefore will potentially not be as relevant in the late game.

#

Imho, if you have restrictions, you should also gain something in return, while something that is universally usable should in the end just not be the top choice.

How is it contradicting? It's expanding on what I also stated above.
