#Patch notes contain wrong drop locations for the new charm.

Hunters do not drop the fragments for the new thawtide charm but destroying the squawkers does.

There are two possibilities here:

  1. Patch notes are wrong;
  2. They messed up the drop location in-game

mot likely an oversight when writing patchnotes

The wiki confirms what I experienced myself. I also made sure to watch a few streamers to see how they would get their fragments and all dropped it when they destroyed the squawker.

At this point I don't know what to think.

I'm going back to farm as i need one more frag for it, I will let you know here when I get it and from where it dropped for me

Hunters just drop it at a rate of barely.

If true, the drop rate from the hunters is really abysmal. My hunters are over level 50 and I still didn't get any piece from them even though I used sirin pickpocket on every single one of them.

It got to the point that I have several dagger and bow fragments, 30+ fragments for each part of the armor set and 0 charm fragments.

I got a fragment from placing the seeder today, instead of a bird skin fragment

Not only that the patch notes are wrong about the drop sources but the drop rates must be bugged too.
I've been grinding Thawtide for the past 2 days and already got all the armor & weapon pieces from the Hunters. As well as both bird skins. The Hunters are already locked to the max lvl 50 and I only received 1 charm fragment.
The charm fragment dropped from placing the seeder and not as a kill drop/squawker destruction.
So far I've destroyed and re-seeded 33 seeders but only got 1 fragment drop, the rest is just bird skins. So in my personal experience so far the drop rates for the talisman are ~ 3.03% per seeder which is abysmal. I'm not sure I'm I'm just the statistical anomaly or the drop rates are just that bad for everyone but it looks like the grind will take a lot longer than I anticipated.

I received the charms well after I stopped placing the feeders since I got both birds, while I was hunting for the last piece of the Ode mask version of the farmer helmet,

just farm your faction and break the squawkers and kill hunters, you have till january 30th you will be swimming in them

I'm convinced the drop rate of the charm is unintentionally low. Even if it is supposed to be lower than the others, it seems to be a very rare drop. In my case, we are talking around 65 seeder patterns (not sure if the crafted ones were consumed) with about a 90% pickpocket rate and only 2 fragment drops so far. I also have enough seeder repairs for 10ish fragments each or lord/lady cardinal after crafting them, but I don't know if they can actually drop from that or if it may have been a delayed loot alert from breaking the squawker in that individual's case.

The charm does drop from both Hunters and destroying squawkers. The patch notes just don't list squawkers as an additional source, and the wiki is wrong for not including hunters. So if you're skipping hunters because of the wiki, you're missing out on ~3 (very rarely the game spawns more than/less than 3 enemies) loot chances via Sirin, plus loot chances on kill.

I have never seen a charm from placing the Seeder, nor have I seen one from killing the two dogs which spawn afterwards.

do the dogs even drop anything, can't think of anything noteworthy ?

Looks like the standard ode loot table

The charm fragments must be much rarer compared to the others if hunters drop it too.

Even because it drops from the lowest level hunters which shouldn't have a busy drop table but still is hard enough that even while using Sirin it's hard to get.

I used Sirin on every hunter I met and made sure to destroy the squawker too but it's really ridiculous that so far I still didn't get another fragment aside from the one I got destroying a squawker.

Just to make sure, have you personally seen the hunters drop it for you?

It's nice hearing you put together that list and you are taking care of updating it. It seems quite a bit of work to put it together in a independent manner. I will definitely check it out in the future too.

Thank you for telling me your ratio on the charm drops. It is indeed very rare and Sirin doesn't seem to help as much as it helped getting the other equipment fragments. It doesn't help that a drop from a killed hunter isn't as guaranteed as the drop from the pickpocket ability.

Did you ever get a video of a charm fragment dropping from a hunter?

I see a couple of people here think they got a charm frag from hunters so it'd be awesome to confirm this and update the wiki if so. Someone mentioned in general that 'charms sometimes show up as the wrong image' - so the charms might be showing up as the weird/unidentified drop popup that you get sometimes? It'd explain why there's no video yet of someone getting a charm frag from a hunter, but plenty from the squawkers

Nothing on the level 50s, maybe the charm was part of the drop table for enemies below 15 or 30 before the new weapons/helmet gets added to their drop tables? I did start an alt just to try collecting fragments from enemies below level 15 even though that's a little pointless, since most people are going to be killing them anyways to expand their drop tables.

When I was hunting for those fragments it was the original thawtide update where their levels didn't update, so my testing could also be very outdated.

this is a really great theory! I think assuming those frags did come from hunters, it'd make sense if either this were the case or it was in original Thawtide and got quietly patched/adjusted

tempted to leave the wiki as is for now because squawkers seem to be the only actionable/useful dropsource for a player to use, but definitely cool info and it'll be interesting to see if they use the same system for next year's thawtide
