#Smite eats away damage on weapons.

Had lately noticed my weapons downgrading in damage numbers as they were being used and leveled, so I ended up doing an experiment on the Gwylen.

To note: No changes to gear or skilltrees were made during this experiment. My spirit is at 31.
I have been playing multiplayer as the host and client while leveling The Alder, however the experiment was in solo.

Image 1. - Upon starting the game freshly, the Gwylen had attack stat at 98.

Image 2. - I tried leveling up the weapon and it leveled up normally.

Image 3. - Did a smite pull and had the active buff on.

Image 4. - After the buff wore off, it had eaten some of the damage on the weapon off. Tested leveling the weapon more and doing more smites- damage remained at 72.

Image 5. - Chose to finally restart the game and the damage went back up to 100.

Image 6. - I originally noticed the damage being drained by leveling The Alder - which is seeming to not bounce back up after restarting the game, and seems to continue downspiraling.

Changing virtues alone does nothing to The Alder, but changing pacts does.
Changing from full rank Escalda to 0 rank Tetheren takes the damage down to 13.
Changing to another weapon and back to Alder takes it back up to 56 dmg, even with Tetheren on.
Max damage is capped at 56 and will not go higher, no matter what is done.

Here are some loadout screenshots!

Screenshots where I lowered the virtue and changed pact to 0 rank Tetheren.

First I lowered the spirit and changed the pact - ended up noticing it bugged me into negative spirit.

It's not just weapon damage. Smites are literally changing your stats, but not in a way that's easily seen.

I absolutely have more than 20 courage. But after smiting a red orb my weapon shows that I do not.

Can confirm the same thing happening. Whenever I smite my stats and damage gets totally deleted. It's almost as if it resets the spent virtue points. Death or going in and out of the nighthold seems to reset it to normal values.
Occasionally even opening up an enemy for smiting seems to cause it as well.

It's Wyld Pacts that are broken. Smiting the respective pact of your (Sirin - Blue, Oscelda - Green, Tethren - Red) basically gives you a massive stat debuff.

I didn't have this issue on wyld tethren before the most recent hotfix. It's definitely a new issue

I noticed this happening with my Gathannan! Normally do a solid 100 damage with a basic hit and 300 with heavy. After smiting, it went down to doing 30 with regular attacks and only 120 with heavy. Eventually, I did another smite and it went back to normal.

Maybe there's some backend function where smites alter your virtues temporarily or something

It's definitely not new. I've had it since at least Wednesday. I just had a hard time locking it down to Wyld Pacts. But it's only now that I'm getting more confirmation from other players. But I'm fairly certain now and have been recording gameplay to prove it.

I did my testing on the normal version of Oscelda, and smite does still break my weapon.

Should also be noted that I tested on an old weapon, which also broke - but I do feel like it is tied to Founders or the update somehow.

#

I also noticed that it feels like being a client in your friends hosted game affects damage somehow, as I keep losing damage without using smite anymore - but keep my damage when hosting.

Could be tied to the earlier speculation of opening enemies to smites being a breaking factor too.
