Games fail when there is no intrinsic reward for playing. People burn out and leave. Most who stay have sunk cost syndrome. When you get stuck in doing pixel chores it becomes tiring. I’ve replayed Cuphead so many times because the fights were fun. I probably won’t play again for several years atp cause I’ve locked em in too much but the gameplay itself needs to be as fun as possible, you can only cover up lack of creativity with etheria coins for so long.
