Currently the problem with disabling dupes in RTA is that they will feel really bad to get for most people and won't be as appealing to whales. So what if the dupes got better so that they're more appealing outside of RTA?

I think the best compromise would have been for the last node to get touched/reworked in some way, yes whales will still have an advantage in terms of units built and skill ups but a F2P players could always stack them and use it on the most meta defining units and so on.

And before you guys make it a poor vs rich type of battle I'm planning not to compete but to casually enjoy the game as a low to mid spender but for how the game was advertised this is far from competitive in my eyes
