#Suggestion for the character sprite animation/style

What technique is this using? Is this just a 3D model?
Cant really see well as I’m on my phone rn
Looks really appealing though
Is that a 12 sided sprite sheet?
I think the character is separated in different sprites for each body part, then animated in a 3D environment. Idk exactly
I was watching him on twitch other day and he showed the spritesheet for a few seconds, it have A LOT of sprites
Might as well be a 3D model at that point I would think, but it actually looks pretty good
right haha yeah the transitions are super smooth
It looks smooth bc the sprites are animated in a 3D environment if I'm not wrong, then they have a good overlap. Just guessing
Like, have a 3D transparent skeleton, an actual 3D rig, and instead of a 3D model around it, its the 2D sprites
ah man, I really want to find the video of him making the animation again 🥲
yeah if you can find it def link it in here
Its basically like, well, ya know rag sprites are 8 sided. So they have angles for 45, 90, 135, 180, etc degrees. But his sprites look like they're double that so 22.5, 45, 67.5, 90
But if he's only doing that for one character its def understandable and looks/feels pretty good for an action type game
14
they could have animated everything in 3d and did the pixel art on top of it
i believe
like what this guy did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSqb6II3WMM
In this tutorial, I explain how I cheat with Blender to create 2d animated sprites very quickly.
Summary of the workflow :
I created and rigged a 3d model of the character in Blender with exagerated features so it would pixelize well. Then I created the 8 frames walking animation and I change the camera 45 degre with each loop.
I use "Freesty...

I've been working on the character controller in Unity for the past few weeks and I wanted to share the result so far.
The Pixel Art sprite is made with Blender then cleaned up in Aseprite. The normal maps of the character is generated in Blender as well.
Of course, Feedbacks are greatly appreciated!
is not as smooth as that one
but i think they used something similar to this
just throwing this in here. some ideas might be seen from the dev of Memora Wanderer as they took heavy inspirations from RO as well

Yes, you can now whack things with your book 📕💥. Casting spells next! #indiegame #pixelart https://t.co/Uu5Y7uRsIK
Hey @elder dirge, they're talking 'bout you ! 😉
Also, we only take heavy inspirations from 2.5D Oldschool RPGs. There's a lot of them ! 🙂
Oh hey there 😆
Oh! Theyre here. Phenomenal work!
The first example in the thread is amazing, I looked up how they made it: "the character is animated with a 3D skeleton, but rendered via 2D billboards placed along the skeleton.".
Most people in the West didn't scratch the surface of this kind of games, NetEase is quite famous for having one of the most populated game of the kind.
They also recently made a mobile game based on a new iteration of the licence, but I think it had mixed reviews
It’s basically just Spine2D style riggining/sprite work. Which PaperZD in UE5 has support for.
But instead of just having left/right directional sprites like a lot of Spine2D style games do. They have the sprites respect far more directionals
Also while I’m in here, currently on the roadmap for 5.3 they are working on modernizing UE’s orthographic camera rendering style.
Which may be of interest since a lot of PS1 / early mmos used this style of camera projection
WHAT
It’s been so many years ortho camera has been not worked on
That’s really good news
And perfect timing
Yeah it’s honestly great news.Trying to spread it around more so our neglected Paper2D community can upvote it more 😂
