so i've been getting a lot of the e33 sass on my tl probably bc of my proximity to the jrpg community overall but from my understanding, people let the fanbase get to them bc some of the fanbase perpetuate that every game before it is basically garbage. you can absolutely separate a fanbase from the actual thing but honestly, participating in the fandom for the things you love is half the fun and being involved with a fandom like that when you love other games that are similar to it isn't great lol the devs and the game don't deserve the hate but Those fans make the overall experience of discussing the game weird. like this was just posted 20h ago and octopath 0 just came out like last week which is turn based... why say stuff like this about games that are adjacent to e33

I think pretty much the only aspects of E33 I've seen still be generally unscathed are Lorien/the soundtrack and the VAs; I still generally see pretty unanimous acclaim for those two things at least (though a tangent conversation could spring off of the tragedy of how much the mocap actors go unrecognized despite their incredible work also)

The one silver lining I try to keep in mind is that this year's TGA was a bloodbath in large part because we had so many incredible games in each category, which has led to a higher degree of passion than usual from fans who feel their game got snubbed. Obviously the resulting fallout of something like TGA sucks, as we're seeing, but otherwise having such an amazing crop of a year for games has been genuinely incredible.

Alas.... we do still have the fallout to contend with since it's so fresh

yeah like i follow and get a lot of jrpg people on my tl. majority of them loved e33 but also love jrpgs. most of them just talk about how frustrating it is to be in a space where you love this game but there are ppl who are weaponizing the game towards it's inspirations.

i think there are a lot of discussions being had about e33 that are contentious all over the board so that's kind of how we got here. it sucks and i really feel for people who are completely normal about this game.

I get you; I'm in a pretty similar boat.
