But something else that elevates this fight for me is a little thing I like to call Spot the FF14 Reference! And I hecking love FF14.
There will be some spoilers for ARR’s raid series btw, for those who have not finished the coils and care about the story, so I’ll tag the rest of this since I know we still have people going through them and even on a visual spoiler I don’t want to ruin someone’s experience:

So starting from when Joshua and Clive team up proper in the last bit of the first phase: ||The way Bahamut descends into the shot, unfurls his wings and roars is the same way he does it both in the ARR opening cinematic, and at the beginning of the final fight of the coils, Bahamut Prime.||
||The visuals of Bahamut’s attacks are identical to 14s, with more HD pizzazz, like Megaflare being a bunch of scatter lasers. Mortal Coil and Triple Coil are a callback to Ahk Morn, which made it’s debut in final coil (before we learned this is an attack Midgardsormr and all his brood can do later in the game). It has the same fire at the ground and cause a laser pillar effect. By the way, “Triple Coil.” There are 3 tiers in the coil raid series. :D
Teraflare visually is almost 1 to 1 how it looks in FF14 both seen at the end of the ARR cinematic and in the raid, and the mechanic is a call back to how you mitigate it in final coil by putting up a shield, though its not via the phoenix in 14, instead you must kill adds then stand in a circle. But the basic idea is the same: stand ‘here’ so you don’t die xD
And now for the big spoiler: The penultimate fight in coil is against the Phoenix, who you discover is Louisoix. After defeating him, you’ll see a cutscene which has been dubbed Flames of Truth, in which you witness the moments right after the ARR opening cinematic, where Louisoix becomes the primal Phoenix and tanks Bahamut’s teraflare by flying through it and bursting through Bahamut’s chest. So why do I bring this up? Because Ifrit Risen in FF16 tanking Zettaflare and flying right through it to burst through Bahamut’s chest at the end is another visual callback, it’s almost 1 to 1.||
