With whatever update happened yesterday, it looks like they removed one of my favorite Blueprints. Magic-something (can't remember the name exactly). It made sort of cartoonish/animated videos of a subject. Is that gone for good?

Yes. They've removed things in the past too. I went to past generations and it said something along the lines of "Blueprint unknown/unavailable/whatever".

Interesting, when I was traveling in Europe last month, certain Blueprints were unavailable altogether, and only came back when I returned to the States. I remember "Steal the Look" or whatever the name of the outfit-changer was being one of those.

Gotta say, they kinda lost the Leonardo in Leonardo.ai across the new branding. There's nothing I see that relates to Leonardo in anything but the name, and I can't really see the logic behind most of the redesigns. It really seems like another victim of watered down, design-by-committee abstraction than something more meaningful. The previous direction had a certain daring beauty to it, whereas this one seems like it's trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd, plus it feels more cluttered. Meh.

I get that, although I wish they would've taken old Leo along for the ride a bit more, maybe have all those shapes form his face in some subtle way and have it all framed as some master of yore in a new world. Plenty of brand narratives to stem from that. Anyway, I don't know your analytics, so I can only be needlessly nitpicky 🙂

Agreed. Albedo is what I use most, it's the best for fantasy and sci-fi. Other models are great, but Albedo has its own unique look, especially when combined with Elements I'll still stay for some of the other features, but unfortunately the app is losing everything that made it unique. I still love and use Flow State, and I don't mind the UI update, but I am sad that the heart of this app is getting ripped out piece by piece.

Just the color scheme was fantastic, made it look more unique compared to other ai. The new one looks more robotic/futurisic. (Plus having the ability to see how much tokens you spend per gen was nice.)

Without better reference image capabilities, they're just not useful. I bought a year because I thought they'd get updated like their old Phoenix models did, with SIX different kinds of reference image functionalities, AND the Style, Character and Object models...

The Phoenix models are old and weak, but you can get consistency out of them, and control that the MUCH more powerful Lucid base models aren't capable of.

Nano Banana is much less artful, but you can get consistency out of it, so there's really just no purpose for Lucid models unless it's just one off stuff, and Nano Banana is much cheaper on Google's platform.

Which really is a shame, because even compared to Nano Banana, the Lucid models have a texture... an artful feel to them that you have to really work to get near in Nano Banana. MJ can, but not a fan of MJ.

I'm thinking about shooting a crane shot, so I have consistent visual flow, and then animate my characters based on the movement of a reference video of people dancing. Know what? You're right. I was not liking the look but thought that it's their company, they will make changes, hopefully for the better. Anyway, I just ran into the first "OH there's less info here now, I have to do more to get what I want" moment. Previously, changing options shows how many tokens it will cost to generate, now I have to hover my mouse over it for it to show me how many tokens it will now use. Why do companies insist on enshittifying everything, for a cleaner look? You have made it less usable to me, pretty sure im gonna be pulling the plug on my subscription at this rate.

i used it when I first made my account in 2023 and I loved it because of the "stylish" upscale it gave to pics done in models like DreamShaper or Absolute Reality

unfortunately later became restricted to paid users because of high GPU usage (why???), and to be honest and fair, I didn't like the other options of upscale (Refine & Smooth), I loved more the Creative one

and also, a honest question, why the Schedulers like DPM2, Euler a and these others weren't made for free plan users since the beginning? I don't get why they were made paid

then ofc as the new image gen UI with Phoenix and later models arrived by late 2023-2024, the Legacy mode starting to dying slow to today(which is a shame)

I managed to buy myself a paid plan last year just to test these legacy features I wanted to try so bad and yes, my beloved Creative Upscale and finally try the schedulers, only for a couple of months later when it simply was removed (the Creative Upscale). I wanted to use it a lot because I loved it in 2023 and I was a little, idk how to say it when I saw that I couldn't select it anymore because of "Creative Upscale is a paid feature due to it's high GPU usage. Please select another upscale option."

and also I used the Legacy Universal Upscaler, which also for me was a easy to go tool for images done on Realtime Canvas and Legacy Mode

I understand that maintaining this whole infrastructure it's a hard task, I know. But I just don't like when features that users loved are just removed in the blink of an eye.

Hey, really appreciate you sharing this. And genuinely, I get where you’re coming from. When something changes and it feels like you now have to “work harder” to get the same info, that’s frustrating.

On the token visibility specifically, we didn’t remove it to hide anything or just to make things look cleaner or prettier. We noticed that having token costs front and centre was actually adding friction to the creative flow. A lot of people, understandably, were min-maxing every action, constantly watching their balance and second-guessing which model or settings to use. That awareness of cost, while practical, was subtly limiting experimentation.

Our goal with the redesign is to make creation feel more fluid and less transactional. Creativity ideally shouldn’t feel like a meter ticking down in real time. That said, we completely understand people want transparency and to be mindful of usage, especially when you’re paying for it. So the info is still there, just not the first thing you see.

Long term, we’d love to get to a place where that cost anxiety disappears entirely, but with the current realities of AI infrastructure, that’s not something we can fully remove yet. This change is a step toward the kind of creative experience we believe AI should feel like.

That said, feedback like this genuinely helps us calibrate. If it’s making the experience worse for you, we want to hear it.

Why in the world did Leonardo AI remove the original upscaling tool. That tool is far better than the newer tool which barely does anything no matter how high the settings are. Bring the original upscaling tool back; and please fix the so called safety features, that more and more do not allow one to create the output one needs. It is getting to the point that I am (I doubt I'm alone in this) going to have to move to another platform.

The removal of the Legacy Upscaler has killed Leonardo.ai for me. The current offering DOES NOT WORK ON iPAD - you cannot start an upscale process as the button does not work, and besides that the quality is so inferior (if it is the same upscaler that was offered besides the Legacy Upscaler) that it is ridiculous to leave us with that. I cannot test it as my only tool I use are iPads. If it is gone forever so am I - and I would ask for a refund as the remaining nine months would be useless for me. Check out Freepik.com for their upscaler - it is free (not magnific.ai), and it delivers a far better quality similar to the Legacy Upscaler. Magnific.ai stands out - I also pay for that. It just does not work well in every case, so there still was a reason to prolongate my subscription (I am a customer from the very beginning of Leonardo.ai with another account). I am sure there is enough action going on in this forum regarding the removal, so I guess I am just another complaining user. I hope there are many!

I always wonder when companies make terrible decisions, is if it is one person, one higher-up who thinks their ideas are the shit, and the underlings can't or won't push back on the terrible ideas spewing forth from said toff for fear of losing their job. Look at the feedback you've been getting. This rebrand is clearly unpopular, the loss of the upscaler, the change of the recognisible logo. It's like you guys decided to speed run the C-suite enshittification, Boeing style. Whoever signed off on this needs to leave the company. Before I go out and look for a different generator, let's have a talk, what are people using besides Leonardo? What are some good alternatives?

Well in fact the staff here on Discord is separate from the core team. We were given a preview of some of the changes a short while ago, but it was mainly focused on the aesthetics. The changes to certain legacy features are separate, I believe related to the core api process underpinning the site functionality. Some users were already encountering issues with the legacy site, beginning some weeks ago, and I believe the decision was made to begin to phase out the features that were incompatible with the newer api. Some of these changes were implemented in the new UI launch, but are, decision-wise, separate from the redesign.

As for the aesthetics, the decision to change up the look was part of a kind of intentional refocusing of Leonardo’s purpose, a kind of visual refresh. When it was previewed, the response was generally positive. By the time we were shown a preview, it was already planned, so I can’t tell you what the decision process looked like. But I can say that we have some volunteers who have no qualms about speaking their mind, and that their feedback was passed along.

No that's ok, it's not a wall of text, it's actually insightful. Im all about authenticity, I felt insulted by the response I got earlier because it read as so corporate, even if it was not written by AI. I was originally frustrated with the lack of clarity on why generations failed, and then the redesign came out of nowhere and the site was less usable for me, so it was both things. I've hopped over to Runway for now, but I will monitor you guys so I can see where you're going. The changes ruined the UX for me, I wish you the best in getting back on track.

It can be maddening when it feels like communication is disconnected. Gpt 1.5 is cheaper alternative, while Nano Banana excels at Business related work imagery it is pretty poor in capturing some styles like anime properly which tend to be very one-look sort of way which is where Gpt excels, in diversity of style. Nano banana is considerably pricy so you gotta keep look out for what subject you are going for

I recently learned that Legacy Mode is going to be disabled, and I wanted to share my concern. Legacy Mode is extremely valuable to us. The elements and precise image guidance options it offers are what truly make Leonardo stand out from other platforms.

I kindly request that you reconsider removing Legacy Mode. You can certainly continue updating and enhancing the latest version, but please consider preserving Legacy Mode alongside it so users who rely on its unique features can continue to benefit from it.

I’ve noticed that the latest version now includes some of the options that were previously available in Legacy Mode. However, keeping Legacy Mode separate, as it currently is, remains much more convenient and user-friendly.

The existing structure allows for a smoother workflow, especially for those of us who are accustomed to using it.

Leo, this is the best upscaler. You don't need to remove anything from it, you can just add something new, but leave the other tools as they are. Everything is perfect, with large, user-friendly windows. It works perfectly, improves the image. Your service is excellent, and people are actually making money from it. you just have to tell it what pic you want to copy style from, it works in way simpler way than Nano

by picking style, if your prompt is very different then it leads to just aspects of your reference being taken over to final imagery

its a rare workflow, since 3d is hard. I have a very modded game which I use for it. Only thing is that it sucks in resolution originally so I always wanted a AI that can translate it to HD and work decently with original images

With the removal of legacy mode what will become of all of the over 100 elements i have trained for my studio and will i no longer be able to access albedo xl as it its part of our studios daily workflow using elements, character ref and image to image and edge to image? NO of the new image creation tools can handle all these guidence at once its seems. What would you suggest? I have been a user for going on 3 years now, i am very concerned.

All I know is for right now I'm very frustrated. Suddenly unable to render anything I was rendering before, and it's fantasy. Not even burlesque levels. I've never gotten this many failed render messages in the year or two that I've exclusively used Leo.

The whole new look is terrible. I cncelled my subscription today, I need to use up all my credits ASAP before the subscription expires.

Seriously — after Higgsfield and Freepik, which both are extremely strong, Leonardo had a chance to do something decent with the redesign.

But the new design is worse then any of the major competitors, and worse then the old UI. Have the people who made the new "design" actually used the platform?

after the fuss i caused here about the legacy upscaler (thanks again for bringing it back), i'm trying to limit my complaints about "failed generations," but today, to my surprise, it turned out that for gpt model the "Droste effect" in the prompt may not "meet content safety guidelines." i experimented with the prompt suspecting that ai might not ​​ like calling women "beautiful," or that it was disgusted by "veins", but only removing "Droste effect" cancelled the "security" danger. wtf??? 😄

for other - newer - models you can use your character along with character reference and you'll get pretty good results

it is not related to the future deprecation of Legacy mode

I don't need a bunch of video generation stuff I'll never use. I have a workflow that gives me the results I need using Absolute Reality v1.6 with specific inputs. If I can't continue to use that then Leonardo becomes useless to me, as much as some of the newer models might have value one-off.

Legacy mode is functional. I don't see why it needs to go.
