From what I understand the seed is for the whole generation and is tied to the number of images.
So if you have seed X, then the resulting images will have the seed X+1, X+2, etc…. :S

At the moment, apart from using Image to Image, I don’t think there’s a way to replicate “base seed + the fourth image that would have been generated”

If you mean that the systems “learns” your preferences, then no it’s not supposed to.
BUT there have been anecdotal testimonials where it “feels” like the system is honing on past generations…. But at this point it looks more like superstition 😉 like seeing shapes in clouds.

In short, each generations are 100% independent of the past ones.
