There's a possibility you experienced a matchmaking bug. If you don't pop a queue within a few minutes, it's best to cancel and restart. I've queued up for Squires and tabbed over to look at something else, then remember DaD ten minutes later and still in the queue. After a cancel and restart, it pops in thirty seconds. May or may not be your issue, just something to consider.

that idea makes no sense. obviously if i queue into a game of HR, It is meant to be filled with other players to increase the competition. Everyone enters the lobby within the beginning of the round, making it difficult to reach high value loot areas, hence why the loot VALUE is increased.

the only realistic issue with this is low player count. that would make your wish a reality..

you've played the game enough to know that playing HR pvp adds way more factors. you cant just braindead enter a room and hard clear it now, you cant just run straight away to the boss because there will be a third party. Mobs are harder + Harder PVP cause of gear = deserved loot value increase

Time is not on their side at all, with a dwindling player base, lackluster updates, and additions of content. What they need is to fix major issues, ACTUALLY BALANCE classes and items, instead of having (insert class of the patch/month) dominate and cause more issues. I had been playing since patch 10, and I bet that if I were to re-download and play again, I'd still find those glaring issues (like mana sphere/demons' Glee Fighter dominating) that they had promised to fix. I played a game called Bloodline Champions, which was highly competitive and you were lucky to get a +2 and you'd lose at least -20 on a loss due to the low player count and lack of high level players. • previously, there was a 0-25 gear score bracket that often operated like a big sandbox arena. There is still a matchmaking system that tries to create the 0-25 bracket.
• Rags to riches which is the new 0-25 gear score lobby like the above. (basically a battle royale)
• You really just want a "normal" mode that caps gear low like green/blue gear max to just fight and chill. — Understandable, but there is far too many queues as is.

However, the arena system is not meant to be casual and chill, it's mean to be the culmination of your work in the dungeon mixed with your actual skill level.

If I were you, I'd just run it down in rags to riches, or try to build a competitive set to "casually" fight... It's paradoxical that you want BiS to be able to enjoy arena "to chill", just let your rating fall to where you can fight with the gear that you have...

In it's current state maybe, but these ideas rely on good game development sense to balance things so you can still somewhat compete with nolifers (ideally through better combat systems that balance out gear because you can be much better), but nolifers should still have advantages to gain, and rare items and craftables to chase after, where you go "oh damn he got the ghost king blade, we have to play around it." or something so that playing the game for longer hours actually has perks.

You don't want people to hit a level where they feel like continuing to grind or play is pointless. It's like if WoW had you get BiS just after getting max level from a few low level dungeons.. There would be no reason to invest into the game.

You need spaces for nolifers and you need spaces for casuals, but don't restrict the nolifers, and give them their zone to go crazy... That's why I think ranked arena should always allow any self-found gear, and self-found potions like troll's blood, etc. and they get refilled after every round, so you have even more things to search for in the dungeon.

I personally believe arena ranked should be absolutely limitless, because it gives you a reason to try to self-find artifacts, which is the current pve end-game. And when they introduce raids (which i hope they do), they can piece together the self-found seasonal BiS set-gear from the weekly raid as another long-term goal.

I agree that the game currently sucks to play for long hours, mainly because the PvE sucks. PvE is repetitive, boring, grindy, lacks depth and it has lost it's sense of discovery, mystery, danger, and excitement.

This is mainly due to static maps, and lack of rng elements throughout the game. Every game REQUIRES rng to have replayability, this is why card games stay fun, board games, and just about any game you can think of requires randomness that changes the way you play.

The only exception is progression systems. If you have a compelling enough progression system, that can make doing the mundane much more rewarding.

DaD has neither...

So yeah you're just feeling the effects of that.

The PvE is the whole game... With bad PvE you don't hook new players, so there's no competitive PvP scene, so then PvP sucks by extension.

The PvE must be much better for this game to survive. Without it the game keeps bleeding.

Still no progression trees, meaningful character leveling or progression systems, no tavern rooms, no raids, no guilds or guild halls, no tavern hang out areas, no clear floor/boss progression, no weapon/armor progression systems, no inventory progression (except they added buyable stash tabs, big dub!), no real gear or character customization, no lore, no voice acting, no skill trees, no professions, no vendor perk trees, no random maps/modules, no random events, no map affixes, no rare NPC vendor encounters, no easter egg hunts, no riddle/puzzle rooms, no anything...

every new player's experience is with PvE.. Because they will suck at PvP for a long time anyways.

The PvE angle to a PvP game is what interested me and everyone I know, it was the idea that you could build a character up and get an advantage over your opponent through your class progression, build strategy, etc.

The PvP is still worse than every other PvP game out there. It's shallow, has only 2 abilities, is a ping/fps random duck and dive fest, or you just die on the way in to 5 million throwables and crossbows... The pvp is just w key and spin your character around for 10 years until you get to the opponent... If you get there you silence them and destroy them in seconds with no counterplay... It's actually rather boring if you look at it... The only reason it's fun is because it's satisfying to hit someone and down them... The actual combat systems kind of suck.

I thought the same thing until I started playing sword and shield. I agree the ping and fps is bs and a huge problem but you are significantly simplifying it in my opinion

And the only pvp centric modes have been hr and arena and both of those have had lots of success?

Nothing has, because the PvE and PvP both suck, but PvE is what's going to nurture casual/new players into intermediate, then hardcore. It starts from the bottom, not the top.

Refining PvP so that's there's more skill and depth actually hurts new players, because they will just get wrecked even more... So before you even tackle PvP you have to fully build out an addictive PvE experience that starts drawing players, then make sure matchmaking systems will protect their experiences, so that they can grow into the higher tiers of play.

Once there's enough population, you can increase combat complexity and depth.

Nah bro, i played in very good lobbies and i can tell you some rounds were determined by how far is wraith from your spawn

I would say this game started out as a pvp experience with the addon of pve that was also difficult. The pvp was the main allure of the game actually. The whole point of going in and finding gear was so you can use it against other players let's be honest XD. So I find it interesting that you say the game should revolve around the pve mainly before it jumps into pvp territory.

for some classes the mobs are a big problem, for others the mobs actually help. wiz and rogue can invis to mob dump the other team, warlock basically gains an army of minions

In practicality, the fights play out like a shooter, where everyone is hugging corners shooting crossbows until someone gets a lucky headshot, then they rush and start throwing stacks and stacks of throwables.

After that the fight is mostly over most of the time, with either them dead or a 5 minute door to door chase down, ending with a 3rd party or finally killing them without them fighting back at all because all they could do is run and try to med up.

If they ever try to fight, it's just one person sitting there trying to parry for the whole fight, and the other person just doing dumb head-inside-legs and buggy weapon strikes through the guard, and if you have the wrong weapon, you literally can't fight someone who knows how to parry, so only stab weapons are viable, slow slashing weapons are unplayable.

If he parries you die, if you cheese hit him through gaurd enough times he dies without every doing anything...

The game would actually have more skill and interesting melee combat if you had to comit to a swing at a certain direction and can't swing it around. It just makes combat pretty random if you don't have that.

Even with the current combat system, the game was growing at only one point in time, and it was during the playtests, the concurrent player count got to 100k and was growing as the week progressed. The only difference is that the game had a sense of discovery, and mystery.

That's why i think randomizing maps/modules and adding way more interesting spawns, events, mysteries, gold rooms ( a rare super treasure room), map affixes like (rare npc is somewhere in the dungeon, 2x loot from elites/bosses, 3x ore yields, etc.) would make the game way more mysterious, and make you feel like you actually want to discover things.

Do you think that is because a lack of players with experience? I HAVENT played in a hot minute but fights never felt that 1 dimensional as you are making them sound when I played

the skill and knowledge gap between existing players and newcomers only ever gets bigger, and its harder to win back people that quit the game already than to rope new people in. so the best thing they could do for the long term is to improve the experience for new people entering the game and trying to learn

my issue rn is that theres nowhere to move on from s2r as a solo wanting to play with random teammates, cos no one wants to risk their kit with random teammates who might just throw or die immediately. so i can either play solo hr/norms or i can try to find people to play with in discord, theres nothing in game that helps me here

like id happily run it down in norms/hr with random teammates and a kit of whatever piss gear ive found, but it seems like not many are down for that lol
