Strength gives you higher physical dmg bonus BUT that works as a percentage applied to your weapon base dmg. An arming sword has relatively low base weapon dmg so high phys dmg bonus wont help you too too much. But a 2 hander like a halberd, with high base weapon dmg, will benefit more

@raw frost if you want to take out skels faster, you want to run undead dmg bonus. You can craft weapons at the weapon smith using silver coins that have that built in

it was (you probably know) 20 armor pen at one point but I think that amount might be too much especially for a one hander
the reason being is that at that point, you can stack a lot of armor pen, because now you can also roll armor pen on your lantern/shield
and also if you're running lantern you're really fast with a LOT of armor pen

If you go to weapon smith and go to the "services" tab you can craft a flanges mace using silver coins. Really easy to get enough to do so as long as you pick them up whenever you run across them

You might need to unlock it tho by completing weaponsmith quests
