Because linking the main currency in the game to a sink and leaderboard is nothing but showboating for people who are rich, and currently the only people who can genuinely fight for that top spot on either the leaderboard or towards the skin are people who have played enough to the point they're not feeling the incentive to push for the skin as much as the average player, or as we saw with the last time religion hit, the people who dump hundreds of thousands do it because they've bought it with their bank details.

Why does buffing barb a ton not work? Because the class specializes in targeting mistakes made by players, in a similar situation to druid the class is entirely reliant on it's skill and scaling power to out perform other classes and giving them a bunch of base state increases that disparity by a wide margin. Doing it in bulk all at once only makes the class overtuned and it's indicative that they're not actually looking to balance out the classes but moreso are just playing around with numbers until they come up with something that sort of works. The only way these changes could've been minimally impactful to non-barb players would've been slowly buffing him by giving him the shout changes and then seeing if he needs the Bardiche changes. And if he does, nerf the shout and then if it's underperforming again, bring it back up.

I genuinely can't bring myself to believe that Ironmace is so incompetent that they can't take the time out of their day to actually sit down, look at some numbers and go "Hmm. Why do people not like this type of play style in classes." or "Hmm... Is there a way we can make religion similar to how it was without taking gold out of the economy?" when there are a million options available. They could even just ask ChatGPT to give them ideas and yet we see no actual genuine attention to detail in these patches. They feel rushed, pushed only to change stuff to keep us from boredom.

As of last time I checked, the steam numbers are off by a few thousand most likely due to Blacksmith players. It seems majority are on Steam.

Yeah, all 100% fair complaints. This is how things should be worded and phrased here instead of just constant "GAME DEAD RUINED AWFUL" spam. Obviously it has issues and isn't in a perfect state but I'd say it's in a much improved state than even just a year ago. It's an Early Access game with devs that seem to be struggling to figure out exactly what they want.

Longer times to kill makes gear statchecking even worse imo. As of right now, you theoretically could kill someone with skill if they have BiS gear and you don't. That allows you to then loot their gear. If you increase times to kill, it makes trying to kill people with way better gear even more difficult than it already is and giving you very little chance with lesser gear to win the fight.

Another thing, I don't think the combat mechanics support longer TTK either. Most games with long TTK have dodge, parry, blocking or other similar mechanics in order to extend those fights out. Dark and Darker doesn't really have that foundation laid out so it'd just make it feel like everyone is a sponge tanking hits with HP bars instead of with game mechanics.

It'd be like making a shooter game have really long TTK, it wouldn't feel very good at all.

i mean there is skill expression though, especially in longer fights. dodging can be effective, ducking swings feels incredible in this game, but positioning, team coordination, aim, movement all play factors. judging how healthy your opponent is and finding ways to get an advantage. i think thats why the majority of players end up in 0-24 gs, the fights take longer and even classes like wiz or bard that are dependent on true damage and rather bad in that gear score can pull off incredible plays.

Disallow VPNs, partition them off, and stop doing half-measures of temp bans. If you are suspected of cheating, 30 day temp ban and they investigate it, and if they're not completely sure you're clean just escalate it to a perma. Absolutely nobody who plays legit would care. Do the same for people swiping credit cards too.

Switch from gear score to gear rarity is great. It's much easier to balance gear than to balance scores. The system was flawed and some classes were abusing it heavily (druid with no weapons and barbarian without helmed and chest, for example). This is also much more simple so anyone can get into min-maxing their gear without going through a lot of trial and error with the scores.
